That and her name are supposed to throw FF veterans off, since everyone expects the male dwarf from FFIV. What they did with the Twelve was dogshit. I did the raid then the MSQ, and Alphinaud says "by the twelve" and I just die inside. Eorzeans now worship nothing, worse than nothing, a machine that coverts their prayers to energy or some stupid shit.
XIV correctly considers the importance of religion to be in the culture and traditions of the followers, as the social bedrock. Whether the gods are real or not is irrelevant. Though I would have preferred if the Twelve just weren't ever answered at all.
Turning them into a prayer answer machine was funny but I don't think comedy was the intent.
Sometimes its better to leave some parts of setting lore untouched. If you have to touch on every single thing you'll eventually end up where WoW did when they did Shadowlands and fricked up the entire setting to explain the afterlife. Sometimes leaving a mystery is better than revealing it.

Considering how many plot beats fly right over the heads of people it clearly doesn't. Those two voidsent don't even really know they are friends, they just both have these vague feelings that they recognize each other and are supposed to be together. It's why one of them ends up eating the other one because their emotion compelled them to be together, this time literally. Zero just acknowledges that they seem to hang out in her little enclave. Durante considera Zeromus to be the nuclear option even if he somehow has an inkling that it might not be the solution. Tanks don't even need to do a swap. Just move when big circle is on them and stand at front of the line. The fight is mainly for healers really, lots of big damage and doom.

As a healer main, healing is only fun when your team is just the right amount of moronic. If they are too competent, you're just healing the tank and raidwides while spamming your damage button. If they are utter trash, it's frustrating to keep the team alive as they die to everything, only to hit enrage.

I've been doing a lot of Zeromus EX for farm as a DRG and, while the Healers are competent enough to keep us alive, it is honestly upsetting that I have never EVER seen a Feint that wasn't mine or an Addle being thrown here and there. People don't give a shit and just let the healers sort it out, it's the minimum you should be doing and even that is too much for dumb DPS brains who look for high deeps and shit.
Yes, though I think they should have added a side-quest during the Ultima Thule ship prep bit where you unlock having the full summons, instead of it being an automatic upgrade.

It's literally just a handful of people who always exaggerate both the good and the bad sides of the game. I remember when "everyone" shat on the Nier raids when in reality they're super fun and well made content and pretty much everyone I talked to in game loves it. On the forums I saw morons who genuinely hated it because it was "too difficult". The english community for FFXIV is just absolutely horrendous and I'm glad that SE pretty much ignores them at this point.
Everyone did hate the Nier raids and they still complain about them. They're great raids but somehow they filtered the frick out of this community. And it got especially bad as the 2butt secondaries had to google what a Seed of Destruction is and it dawned on them that it was a secretly a raid for a game they never played instead of an Automata raid.
Which is hilarious because everyone loves the Ivalice raids even though I can absolutely guarantee that only a small minority has ever played those games and the rest has no fricking idea what is going on in them.
I only played XII and not Tactics so I think I missed most of what was going on but it didn't stop me from telling that Orbonne is the best Alliance Raid they have ever done

Importantly: nothing is designed to be entertaining outside of the first go around, in the case of island sanctuaries not even then. The content is not designed for longevity or even to be 'evergreen'. So not only is to heavily pigeon-holed, it also doesn't last.
They're also reaping what they've sown in terms of dumbing down their mainstream gameplay. The bread-and-butter tasks like instances have become so resistanceless outside of hardmodes as to be entirely fricking boring so a critical mass of players - they don't want to do that anymore either.
EW post-game is what you get when you try to design an MMO for some nebulous "everybody", each side of the extreme gets a drip feed of content, spends most of the time dissatisfied and hating the other, while everyone else just has to adapt and pick-and-choose what they want off of those two plates. EW is for nobody.

I like island sanctuary, but I take it super casually
I can get everything, and I mean everything, Island Sanctuary does better in other games. It feels like they didn't even play the examples of what Island Sanctuary was meant to be. Picking up rocks in Animal Crossing or whatever is like game design night and day compared to IS. Chores aren't what makes the 'comfy chore game' genre fun.
Surprisingly similar to the male, especially the laugh and the sprint. The run is significantly more girly though.
Guess all that remains is to see just how ugly they are.
It's pretty clear that the whole void storyline was meant to be connected to the role questline extensions and that Unukalhai and more importantly Cylva were to be front and center, we can see just how much more sense the finale with Golbez makes when you swap Zero for Cylva and ALL of the reasonings and mechanics behind even getting to the void were already laid out in the role questline with Unukalhai so Yshtola wouldn't have had to come up with ideas offscreen.
Where do you think the idea for Zero originated? Was she a result of the supposed Garlean expansion being cut or did one of the amateur writers responsible for the patch series dream her up somewhere along the way and force her into the story? Do you think the role questline extensions were also a result of the expansion being skipped over or what? Surely they knew they were going to do the void in the future and that sticking that content behind the role questlines was a bad idea if they needed to use it.
I was there and did the battle and didn't see that icon. The biggest mechanic I remember was a ravana-esque sword marker.
The fight was also crazy easy though. I suppose it might be too much to consider that they stripped mechanics from the FanFest version or if it was just very undertuned.

HW suffers from a lot of very static cutscenes, similar to ARR, something which still happens later on but not as often. The actual script might be the best they've ever done in the game, but they couldn't execute some of their ideas to the full extent yet.

EW probably. I can see why some praise ShB because StB's content was more fun but ShB was a dozen times less moronic by comparison. Meanwhile EW just decided it had to resolve the plot so hard that it feels like watching an anime get an original ending because they can't adapt a manga anymore, and suddenly entire masses of plot points are wrapped up in short order and the scale and setting escalate to absolutely fricked degrees to justify a big final conclusion.
Both are correct. ShB has its flaws, like the further homogenization of jobs, but overall it's just the full package, with a great raid series, a great MSQ and great side content. There are expansion that do one of these better, but always at the expense of other things, like SB which has great side content but an awful MSQ.
I agree with both of these, people that say that EW was a bad conclusion are out of their mind, especially people who wanted an entire expansion dedicated to jacking off in Garlemald which would have given us a whole 3 zones of different tundra like some kind of Stormblood 2

ShB as whole, was great. It had problems like oversimplification, specifically Tanks and Healers. It is, as of right now, the high point of the game.
EW is not as bad as people b***h about. It suffers the same issues as Stormblood did. Half the story is interesting, the other is a bit of a slog. Ending wise, it was fine.

As I said, SB had a lot of content, but an godawful MSQ. I'm being serious, even the EW patch content isn't as badly written as the majority of SB. I just recently saw all of it again because a friend of mine went through it and it's just horrendous, the people claiming that the Tsuyu stuff was well written are completely insane. It's *conceptually* a good arc with *conceptually* good characters, but the actual execution is so fricking awful that I was close to dropping the game back when I originally played it.
EW has highlights sure, what expansion doesn't. But a lot of "small things" that EW stumbled with aren't small at all IE Story, content, job design, and more.
If any expansion should have hit it out of the park, it should have been this one that has been building up for years. Instead it got put in the backburner

This is just revisionism, there's a trillion nitpicks I could make about ShB that're just as valid as whatever nitpicks people have about EW.
The Ranjit storyline was absolutely fricking shit and had no reason to exist. G'raha living was a cop out. Thancred had the absolute worst asspull death-fakeout in a game with a history of annoying death-fakeouts, and it came directly after *yet another* Y'shtola death fakeout. Y'shtola fans had to endure a fricking year of shitposting about Runar. The Eden raid was rushed to shit, it made no sense why we even fought at the end, and despite pivoting Ryne's character around being with Gaia, they didn't even have the guts to put them together. Bojza is the absolute worst written content in the entire game, embarassingly shonky execution.
I could go on and on. But ShB was great anyway, it truly was. And EW is the same- there's a bunch of stuff that could have been executed better or differently, there's some parts that are pretty ho hum, and some decisions I disagree with- but what's there absolutely hit me perfectly. The ending was phenomenal and that moment with Alphinaud writing the letter where it hits you that practically every single plotline since ARR has now been resolved was a master-stroke. And I think it's even more perfect if you're someone who's recently come into the game and played from the start, since all the storylines and plots it ties up will be completely fresh.
EW is better than ShB and HW for me, if you disagree that's fine, but calling out random nitpicks and saying that makes it a bad expansion is silly.

Characters always use in-game animations already, it isn't a big leap. And we've seen where they don't do that shit, and Zenos punches Lalafells through the fricking air as a result.

Anon they don't even have 7.0 fully written at the moment. It's still a year off, EW and SHB were both rewritten less than 12 months before release. If you paid attention to anything in XIV, you'd know CBU3 doesn't plan ahead under any circumstances.
VAs said that they usually show up to record a whole lot of lines that extend for a long time ahead in one go, then those who can afford to might show up for any rewrites they make, which is also why the MSQ itself switches between voiced and text only so often and sometimes seemingly at random. Don't confuse not planning ahead with having rewrites after. Which they do rewrite quite a lot. They obviously have 7.0 written in full by now, the difference is whether the script they've got right now actually makes it into the finished product as it is.

You do realize that when people say "this character is bad" they usually also mean "the role this character plays and the actions he takes are bad", right? Everyone fricking knows WHY the writers did it, that doesn't mean that people won't associate Lyse with it, because ultimately she is the character who is doing it. I loved every xpac but I think I might unsub after Dawntrail. It's the gameplay that has problems, but you morons cry about the story. I thought 6.X was fine, better than the average post xpac stories. But the gameplay formula has just become so dull. I don't see another Eureka knock off zone saving it either.

Everyone shits on Bozja story but I liked that Matsuno remembers Tempering mutates victims. I didn't even realize I was fighting the Blades in DR the first time I did it because that story element was long forgotten.
I don't think it's forgotten, it was just established early on that those mutations only happen either when the tempered victim has been tempered for a long, long time, or when they get so extremely overwhelmed by aether they become the equivalent of a sin eater or voidsent. That Merlwyb story from right before EW release also mentioned her father was starting to mutate when she finally put him down. We just don't see that exact point often enough.
Fighting the mutated blades in Delubrum and all the horrific experiments and such that you see in the various NM is very cool and some of the darkest things you'll see in game.
Matsuno writing is a bit of a departure from the rest of the game and it gets dark to the point of feeling ill-fitting but it's still fricking cool

6.5 redeemed the post patch for me.

That's just Zero, Golbez had his own problems too. The writing was full of contradictions, like they didn't plan out anything.
Maybe the contradiction was to point out that despite her posturing she still unknowingly did good things without even realizing why, vestiges of her old self prior to become a voidsent.
But that doesn't explain things like why she acts as though concepts like friendship are a complete unknown in the Void, when we are then subsequently shown that isn't the case at all.
She was compelled to do things she did when she was human even though she didn't understand why. This isn't rocket science. And I didn't even like the msq patches. You are just an idiot.

And the contradictions are not only in her behavior, but in basic lore, and in things like how she can't remember basic functions of life but can conveniently remember Golbez and Durante. And none of this cope explains the contradictions in Durante's behavior either.
I know this is hard to comprehend but usually stories try to get the reader to come to conclusions without having characters directly state things at the camera. It's not hard to imagine she can't remember something like the concept of friendship but suddenly be struck by a pivotal memory of her past life, much like how people with severe memory problems will suddenly find themselves trapped in their memories or remembering past events but not know how to wipe their ass. Durante was just quasi-suicidal and force something to happen so his world could be free in death.

Considering how many plot beats fly right over the heads of people it clearly doesn't. Those two voidsent don't even really know they are friends, they just both have these vague feelings that they recognize each other and are supposed to be together. It's why one of them ends up eating the other one because their emotion compelled them to be together, this time literally. Zero just acknowledges that they seem to hang out in her little enclave. Durante considera Zeromus to be the nuclear option even if he somehow has an inkling that it might not be the solution. The void has been in a perpetual state of consumption for millenia, he's trying to force some kind of change.
I'm just gonna lay out all the issues with what Durante spent this whole story arc doing.

So ultimately what did the Alzadaal gate have to do with any of this?

We can see by this point that using a dragon eye means they know Vrtra is a dragon and thus obviously Golbez should want him there to get Azdaja's hope renewed. So why did he try to cut off access to the Void?

As a healer main, healing is only fun when your team is just the right amount of moronic. If they are too competent, you're just healing the tank and raidwides while spamming your damage button. I remember when "everyone" shat on the Nier raids when in reality they're super fun and well made content and pretty much everyone I talked to in game loves it. On the forums I saw morons who genuinely hated it because it was "too difficult". The english community for FFXIV is just absolutely horrendous and I'm glad that SE pretty much ignores them at this point.
Everyone did hate the Nier raids and they still complain about them. They're great raids but somehow they filtered the frick out of this community. And it got especially bad as the 2butt secondaries had to google what a Seed of Destruction is and it dawned on them that it was a secretly a raid for a game they never played instead of an Automata raid.
Which is hilarious because everyone loves the Ivalice raids even though I can absolutely guarantee that only a small minority has ever played those games and the rest has no fricking idea what is going on in them.
I only played XII and not Tactics so I think I missed most of what was going on but it didn't stop me from telling that Orbonne is the best Alliance Raid they have ever done

the sad thing is that generally we got almost the same volume of content releases, but because Var/Crits, Island Sanctuary and Eureka Orthos don't really compare to content of the past in quality or scale, and the MSQ is just plain shit in this arc, it really does feel like not much came out because a ton of casuals are ignoring at least one of these things en masse. So many people b***h about the absence of Eureka/Bozja, I was never a big fan of them, but there's NOTHING to their scale unless you consider clicking on materials and animals for dozens of hours and a mobile game mammet sweatshop to be equivocal.
Importantly: nothing is designed to be entertaining outside of the first go around, in the case of island sanctuaries not even then. The content is not designed for longevity or even to be 'evergreen'. So not only is to heavily pigeon-holed, it also doesn't last.
They're also reaping what they've sown in terms of dumbing down their mainstream gameplay. The bread-and-butter tasks like instances have become so resistanceless outside of hardmodes as to be entirely fricking boring so a critical mass of players - they don't want to do that anymore either.
EW post-game is what you get when you try to design an MMO for some nebulous "everybody", each side of the extreme gets a drip feed of content, spends most of the time dissatisfied and hating the other, while everyone else just has to adapt and pick-and-choose what they want off of those two plates. EW is for nobody.
I like island sanctuary, but I take it super casually
I can get everything, and I mean everything, Island Sanctuary does better in other games. It feels like they didn't even play the examples of what Island Sanctuary was meant to be. It's pretty clear that the whole void storyline was meant to be connected to the role questline extensions and that Unukalhai and more importantly Cylva were to be front and center, we can see just how much more sense the finale with Golbez makes when you swap Zero for Cylva and ALL of the reasonings and mechanics behind even getting to the void were already laid out in the role questline with Unukalhai so Yshtola wouldn't have had to come up with ideas offscreen.
Where do you think the idea for Zero originated? Was she a result of the supposed Garlean expansion being cut or did one of the amateur writers responsible for the patch series dream her up somewhere along the way and force her into the story? Do you think the role questline extensions were also a result of the expansion being skipped over or what? Surely they knew they were going to do the void in the future and that sticking that content behind the role questlines was a bad idea if they needed to use it.

HW suffers from a lot of very static cutscenes, similar to ARR, something which still happens later on but not as often. The actual script might be the best they've ever done in the game, but they couldn't execute some of their ideas to the full extent yet.

EW probably. I can see why some praise ShB because StB's content was more fun but ShB was a dozen times less moronic by comparison. Meanwhile EW just decided it had to resolve the plot so hard that it feels like watching an anime get an original ending because they can't adapt a manga anymore, and suddenly entire masses of plot points are wrapped up in short order and the scale and setting escalate to absolutely fricked degrees to justify a big final conclusion.

Both are correct. ShB has its flaws, like the further homogenization of jobs, but overall it's just the full package, with a great raid series, a great MSQ and great side content. There are expansion that do one of these better, but always at the expense of other things, like SB which has great side content but an awful MSQ.
I agree with both of these, people that say that EW was a bad conclusion are out of their mind, especially people who wanted an entire expansion dedicated to jacking off in Garlemald which would have given us a whole 3 zones of different tundra like some kind of Stormblood 2

ShB as whole, was great. It had problems like oversimplification, specifically Tanks and Healers. It is, as of right now, the high point of the game.
EW is not as bad as people b***h about. It suffers the same issues as Stormblood did. Half the story is interesting, the other is a bit of a slog. Ending wise, it was fine.

People b***h about EW because it simply isn't as good as ShB. That doesn't mean that there aren't some incredible highlights in EW or that it's not a great conclusion to a complex 10 year long story arc. It's just not that great complete package that ShB was, as that other anon put it. If it had another Bozja/Eureka, if the patch content had more compelling writing, if the base MSQ was a little bit more daring, if the Island Sanctuary had a bit more to offer, everyone would've put EW right next to ShB. It's a lot of small things instead of just one big bad thing like in SB.
I thought ShB was weak and had little reason to stay logged in. People pretending the .X patches of ShB were good are insane. No homosexuals WoL trial being cool doesn't cover the whole 5 patches, especially when the writing sucked. Stormblood was the only xpac I was subbed almost its entire run because the game was actually fun in every area.

As I said, SB had a lot of content, but an godawful MSQ. I'm being serious, even the EW patch content isn't as badly written as the majority of SB. I just recently saw all of it again because a friend of mine went through it and it's just horrendous, the people claiming that the Tsuyu stuff was well written are completely insane. It's *conceptually* a good arc with *conceptually* good characters, but the actual execution is so fricking awful that I was close to dropping the game back when I originally played it.
EW has highlights sure, what expansion doesn't. But a lot of "small things" that EW stumbled with aren't small at all IE Story, content, job design, and more.
If any expansion should have hit it out of the park, it should have been this one that has been building up for years. Instead it got put in the backburner

The Stormblood MSQ comes to mind. Even the Azim Steppe gets diminished by a completely moronic conclusion.
Between EW and SB, it feels like they wanted to make two expansions worth of content, but decided to truncate it down to one considering how both have uneven pacing in story.
This is just revisionism, there's a trillion nitpicks I could make about ShB that're just as valid as whatever nitpicks people have about EW.
The Ranjit storyline was absolutely fricking shit and had no reason to exist. G'raha living was a cop out. Thancred had the absolute worst asspull death-fakeout in a game with a history of annoying death-fakeouts, and it came directly after *yet another* Y'shtola death fakeout. Y'shtola fans had to endure a fricking year of shitposting about Runar. The Eden raid was rushed to shit, it made no sense why we even fought at the end, and despite pivoting Ryne's character around being with Gaia, they didn't even have the guts to put them together. Bojza is the absolute worst written content in the entire game, embarassingly shonky execution.
I could go on and on. But ShB was great anyway, it truly was. And EW is the same- there's a bunch of stuff that could have been executed better or differently, there's some parts that are pretty ho hum, and some decisions I disagree with- but what's there absolutely hit me perfectly. The ending was phenomenal and that moment with Alphinaud writing the letter where it hits you that practically every single plotline since ARR has now been resolved was a master-stroke. And I think it's even more perfect if you're someone who's recently come into the game and played from the start, since all the storylines and plots it ties up will be completely fresh.
EW is better than ShB and HW for me, if you disagree that's fine, but calling out random nitpicks and saying that makes it a bad expansion is silly.

I wish they would let the WoL participate in cutscene fights instead of just unsheathing their weapon then disappearing while everyone else gets to fight.
To do so would require 20+ variations of every cutscene involving combat.

It's still over 20 different renders you're asking them to add each time, no matter how small the actual animation addition.
That's also multiplying the video data on your storage twenty times.
That's why you do the FF11 solution: have the player stick to player animations since they can't do the elaborate shit the NPCs can do. Characters always use in-game animations already, it isn't a big leap. And we've seen where they don't do that shit, and Zenos punches Lalafells through the fricking air as a result.
Wait, you think ffxiv cutscenes are videos? It's just a script of emotes tied to each line of dialog. Adding 20 more lines to that script isn't a significant amount of labor.

Anon they don't even have 7.0 fully written at the moment. It's still a year off, EW and SHB were both rewritten less than 12 months before release. If you paid attention to anything in XIV, you'd know CBU3 doesn't plan ahead under any circumstances.
VAs said that they usually show up to record a whole lot of lines that extend for a long time ahead in one go, then those who can afford to might show up for any rewrites they make, which is also why the MSQ itself switches between voiced and text only so often and sometimes seemingly at random. Don't confuse not planning ahead with having rewrites after. Which they do rewrite quite a lot. They obviously have 7.0 written in full by now, the difference is whether the script they've got right now actually makes it into the finished product as it is.

I loved every xpac but I think I might unsub after Dawntrail. It's the gameplay that has problems, but you morons cry about the story. I thought 6.X was fine, better than the average post xpac stories. But the gameplay formula has just become so dull. I don't see another Eureka knock off zone saving it either.

It's not the combat itself that I have issues with, though it does have some problems. It's just the formula. Oh boy linear wall to wall pull dungeon with 3 bosses, 3 trials per xpac, first one accessory trial, and wow, the first patch has a combat beast tribe wow. I already know what is coming 2 years before it releases. Oh boy, can't wait to do more custom deliveries for scrips to get blue gather/crafter set.
Yoshida exaggerates a lot but in the end I really do hope "more class reworks on the way than before" implies something half-decent instead of just more gutting. Because these basic b***h rotations and 2 minute windows are dull as dishwater. They can't ever change it into being less GCD-driven, either, because of the sheer nature of the game's entire balance and netcode.

Many people enjoy the fact that housing isn't just a tiny zone for a single house though, so I can understand where they're coming from.
What's funny is the Island uses the same instance servers as houses so when it first came out all the housing people couldn't actually enter their homes due to congestion.

datamines of unused maps imply Island Sanctuary was supposed to basically be a free house settling thing of a central building to work with and then messing with and building shit around that, or at least something akin to that. then they backtracked entirely because it was probably too ambitious in the spaghetti code to the frickery it is now

Quick reminder that the reason that trannies "hate" underage characters being sexualized or acting sexual themselves so much while jacking off to them in secret is that even if they somehow "pass" with tons of makeup, expensive surgery, specific camera angles, and multiple AI-powered filters/photoshop, the will NEVER EVER actually be able to be teenage girls themselves. Everyone shits on Bozja story but I liked that Matsuno remembers Tempering mutates victims. I didn't even realize I was fighting the Blades in DR the first time I did it because that story element was long forgotten.
I don't think it's forgotten, it was just established early on that those mutations only happen either when the tempered victim has been tempered for a long, long time, or when they get so extremely overwhelmed by aether they become the equivalent of a sin eater or voidsent. That Merlwyb story from right before EW release also mentioned her father was starting to mutate when she finally put him down. We just don't see that exact point often enough.
They shit on the Bozja story because it's unfinished, there's nothing wrong with it on its own.
Fighting the mutated blades in Delubrum and all the horrific experiments and such that you see in the various NM is very cool and some of the darkest things you'll see in game.
Matsuno writing is a bit of a departure from the rest of the game and it gets dark to the point of feeling ill-fitting but it's still fricking cool
