I haven't been back to play in a real capacity since the last raid tier dropped in 6.2. I haven't even done any of the alliance raids where I would've previously been all over that to see the lore of the world.
Actually doing Savage and Ultimate raiding killed the game for me, once I started clear those regularly with my static the rest of the game lacked any real luster for me to do. There's no reason to grind dungeons or normal raids or anything else because the gear is inferior and the content not a challenge, so I had nothing to do but wait for raid night every week when I was playing.
Take my advice and never get into savage or ultimate, just play and have fun elsewhere in the game.
Your mistake was not doing savage/ex content. Your mistake was only caring about challenge, when MMO gameplay isn't fun enough to justify playing, and gear level/ilvl, which is just fleeting epeen that abandons you quickly. There is only one reason to play this game: you like the story. If so, you play story content + level alts and have infinite stuff to do. Otherwise you unsub. That's it.

That's not to say some content isn't fun, the newest raid tier is the best in a long while, but the gameplay isn't good enough that such content can stand on its own. It's propped up by story and characters and music, etc.

They should differentiate between normal and savage armor looks
Eden's Gate and Eden's Verse armor sets looked good
Eden's Promise armor is kinda uggo other than the caster stuff
Asphodelos is underrated, Greek attire is not common enough in the game
Abyssos is their second actual attempt at armor effects and I think it looks decent, just wish the base armor wasn't so over designed...the tank set looks very good however
Anabaseios stuff is a very mixed bag
Almost every weapon is hideous
The armor is 50/50 on if it looks good...casters, striking, scouting and ranged look good but maiming and fending are ugly

I asked once people i know that never quitted sub about what they do all week and they said that after doing the main thing, raiding new content, they have their own farm goals to get things for showing off, like the pvp seasonal reward, glams/mats/minions from treasure maps that range bewteen 1m to 20m on market, still making progress through train hunts/ttriad cards/fates/mentor roulettes for rare mounts, getting relics they wanted from past expansions, etc heck i even heard of someone who was hard on island everyday to min max cowries for doh/dol materia and make himself rich.
Have a full year to do the tier if they release 7.0 for the '24 summer. I have experience with E8S so that'll be a breeze. Can't say the same for E4S and E12S.

Our roommate wants to play reaper but she’s playing dragoon until she unlocks it.
I’m not sure what I should play tbh. I usually tank but since gf is playing warrior I either have to be the healbawd or I guess play samurai.
What race combo should we play and what class should I play to carry them? Also how do I make sure they make it past 2.0?
Race literally doesn't matter also just make sure they don't get to distracted and push them towards main story since that shit is a slog till HW and literally everything is locked behind it.

This is THE worst game to play with friends, if you appreciate your friendship and relationship you better go look for another game to play because this is not it, you homies will literally have nothing to do but syncing up to do the story all the time as soon as one of you get ahead of the other it's all over.

wars are healers with axe, so healing them is not that difficult, but if you need to babysit, you need to be a healer, healers carry and healers are getting rare as most people are too moronic for the "pressure".
try sage, its pretty fun.
As for race it depends if you want horny people sending you /tells or not
if you wanna play the game quietly, pick highlanders, they're the dad with kids pick.
male roes are either memelords or bara gays
lalas are full time memelords or girls who liek chibi chars, if you wanna be bombarded with bara gays /tells, pick hroth, if you wanna pretend you're a girl with dick you can go female au ra, groomers usually play male au ra, snu snu people go fem roe, viera are basically for girls who wanna play dress up or who are into yaoi, cat people are the same as above but elss popular now i think.
as for making thru the game, the game now has duty support up to stormblood, so people can solo dungeons with npcs if they don't wanna deal with humans, but in reality the best you can do is speedrun them to praetorium
the post 2.0 quests are super short now, its really really fast, but the lvl 30 or so cheese filter bullshit up to titan is still long as frick.
the two places that will bottleneck are: the quests up to titan, and coerthas, speed thru it and get em to the sloopeh scene and they're hooked.

There hasn't been a single armour set I've glammed in full to begin with. Even a bad set can end up having workable pieces when used individually.
Glamour is like a couple hours max.
Real endgame is 10k+ hour grinds.

I haven't been interested to prog p12s yet, is it fun? I run out of juice after doing p9-p11 reclears for the weekly.

you'd have to 'pug' a healer for the first 3 dungeons is all if you wanna do scholar since you can't become one until after Sylph Management
