It's incredible how shitty ARR ran on PS3, I started there, but when I switched to PC I could no longer look at the PS3, it jurt my eyes, sometimes it barely hit 15 fps in places like Gridania, don't really wanna know how shit it ran 1.0 but I bet it went below 10.

The main thing that fricked XIV on PS3 was its very limited RAM coupled with a 5400rpm drive, so it was CONSTANTLY swapping models in/out of ram when hitting up towns or Hunts. For general 8-man content (Twintania pit & custom AoE load times aside), it functioned fine.
Only reason people could stomach XI going to 5-10 FPS on the regular was because the combat was ludicrously slow in comparison. I managed to get my old screenshots off of my PS2 a couple weeks back.
To make sure it ran on toasters, and to expedite the creation of new assets and the refitting of existing assets to fem Highlanders, femroes, and mancats which were all new in ARR.
Why don't they just add the 1.0 models? They unironically seem better. Are their polygons counts that high? I only started in ARR but I distinctly remember being told they even got rid of every character models ass.

Or we could just have these skills on individual buttons so that players can subconsciously keep track of what they are doing while also being able to follow the rhythm and cues to know where they are and what is going on.

I sometimes wonder how the frick the XI devs managed their suffering with having to animate key scenes on a per race/sex basis, due to no shared rigs.
FFXI unironically has higher production value even though it's a PS2 game. The fact that mithras and elvaan have all of the gear in the game specially tuned to their ears and tails is a huge improvement over what XIV offers.
It's moronic, since you'd think modern workflows and software would make animating scenes easier/faster/cheaper than the days of FFXI. The only thing ARR's rigs have over XI's is more points of articulation for the faces, so it's not like the task of animating body movement itself is any more laborious.
PS2 was simply the perfect sweet spot between graphic fidelity and how long it actually takes to make something that looks decent. same reason silent hill 2 runs laps around the 360 silent hill games despite being on objectively worse hardware
SH2/3 were very stiff animation-wise, despite excellent looking models for the time. As far as animating shit goes, the amount of work needed to do it for XI vs. ARR is very negligible, especially since their workflow for ARR wouldn't require running this shit all through a PS2Tool to preview it inengine on their propriety cutscene staging software.

Looking up crafting materials on your server. But a max level retainer can get 50x items from previous expacs at a time. If they sell for 200-300, you make a frick ton of money. If they take a while to sell, you can just stockpile them in your retainer until prices go up. You won't make a frickton of money that way, but it's passive income with no downside
10k per venture is nothing
Even if it's the 1 hour one, assuming you start it every hour for an entire 12 hour day, that's 120k
That's how much you make in 5 minutes of selling materia during a savage release patch by just playing the game

You can stack crafting materials up to 999 per item slots. Your retainer can stack up tens of thousands of items before you have to do anything. Then you just sell in stacks of 99 when prices are at a level you want

Her death 30 years ago is what prompts the lizard mercenaries to be antagonists during the lighthouse raid, and her "body double" was being mentored by Fran to be an upcoming leader of her rebellion group in Bozja. It's revealed in notes in Bozja proper that this body double is the real Ashelia awakened from a magic coma, and her death years ago was faked. Your sole indirect interaction with her is for Fran to force you to refuse her request, so Ashelia can be taught that not everything will work out her way.

Bozja wasn't that popular so the story was killed off fast, people here tend to hate it though personally I quite enjoy anything with those themes and I unironically love Ivalice stuff. Friendly reminder the same people complained about there being no Bozja style content in Endwalker.

There's some stuff in the field notes that conflict with previous lore. And the story itself can't seem to decide what it wants to do in some cases, like it can't decide if the Queen being summoned is a primal or a lucavi, and it waffles back and forth from cutscene to cutscene based on what rules Matsuno wants to follow at that moment.
Mikoto is randomly revealed to have the Echo, and her Echo is super special and lets her see the future. And the whole fricking thing with Cid telling her she can just not get on the airship she's been seeing, and she insists on it anyway. That's the dumbest fricking plot thread I've ever seen.
There's the scene where Misija has Mikoto hostage and nobody dares advance on her. But then Misija kicks Mikoto away from her and goes into an Echo vision (which we know from personal experience makes her unconscious) and STILL nobody arrests her that entire time she's having the vision.
Misija's character in general is a fricking disaster because she's supposedly helping Gabranth because she believes Bajsaljen is too naive and will be betrayed, but then she's also helping Menenius to betray Gabranth for some fricking reason. Then when she gets the power of a primal/lucavi/combo she decides to torture the only people who were ever nice to her and never goes after the shiteating nobles who were plotting to kill Bajsaljen. And then the story treats it like her behavior was the fault of everyone else.

And then ironically he's the one who convinces Ashe to refuse them. Vaan acts like her moral compass, he's the Sam to Ashe's Frodo, keeping her grounded and connected to her people which is her true loyalty.

With this level of reading comprehension, we both know you haven't read Lord of the Rings. I was specifically comparing the character dynamic between Vaan and Ashe to that of Sam and Frodo. Sam is Frodo's subject/squire, he's the one who keeps Frodo on the proper path and reminds him what he's fighting for, and he's the one who forestalls his corruption by the ring's power. That's exactly the role Vaan serves to Ashe in the story, who has to be reminded she's fighting for Dalmasca and not the wishes of the Occuria, and that the power they offer isn't worth the price. I said nothing about the story as a whole being comparable. Dumb fricking golem. have a nice day.

Yoshi ain't perfect but he's ai'ight. It takes a team and he does at least his specialty role on it well. Gamedev is hard and you have to make compromises on what gets your attention, as your budget is limited and some shit is just a pain in the ass to deal with when fricking with legacy spaghetti codebases. At least they're getting around to Viera hats now.
Bozja was also fun for the 70-80 stretch. I haven't tried Eureka so can't comment. Matsuno has done some great work as both a writer and designer, some of it less so on one side than the other. When he has less control over a product his work suffers; when he has more he often knocks it out of the park.

Last guy here, don't agree, even if the story went to shit. Maybe it was super bad on release or something, but the steroids FATEs were kinda cool using it as a leveling zone. No real thoughts on the Alliance raids as I don't really like Alliance raids.
Because Matsuno can't actually write interesting storylines and wasted too much dev time so they had to wrap up Bozja. Not to say they won't ever bring it back, XIV has the uncanny trait of actually using old plot threads from prior expansions.
I have yet to touch either Eureka or Bozja because Viera can't wear the helmets you can earn from either of those outings. Waste of time. Not going to bother with that shit if Yoshipiss is going to treat Viera like a third rate race. Fricking furries get to wear the Elemental Helmet for frick's sake.

I've been getting a lot of weird tanks that will sit on their ass aggoing the first pack of mobs during a wall pull for like 15 seconds before running to the next. I assume this is a WoW thing.
Speaking from way back in ShB experience, but in roulettes I'd often get DPS who would try and go ham on the mobs you'd tag from afar while running by so maybe it's an over-response to people not being patient and ripping aggro too early.
when i started tanking i used to do my best to get those strays the dps run and get but then i realize those Black folk were moronic so i just go my own pace.

I've said it before but Matsuno is really good at establishing a setting and making up 1000 years of lore for the setting but he cannot write a narrative. You need a narrative writer to actually create a plot from his writings.

It's incredible how shitty ARR ran on PS3, I started there, but when I switched to PC I could no longer look at the PS3, it jurt my eyes, sometimes it barely hit 15 fps in places like Gridania, don't really wanna know how shit it ran 1.0 but I bet it went below 10.
For what it was doing, ARR ran better on PS3 than XI did on PS2 after CoP onwards started to tank its general performance.
Really? Well, I can believe PS2 struggled with XI, just tried it last year on PC for a bit and the maps are fricking huge too.
The main thing that fricked XIV on PS3 was its very limited RAM coupled with a 5400rpm drive, so it was CONSTANTLY swapping models in/out of ram when hitting up towns or Hunts. For general 8-man content (Twintania pit & custom AoE load times aside), it functioned fine.
Only reason people could stomach XI going to 5-10 FPS on the regular was because the combat was ludicrously slow in comparison. I managed to get my old screenshots off of my PS2 a couple weeks back.
To make sure it ran on toasters, and to expedite the creation of new assets and the refitting of existing assets to fem Highlanders, femroes, and mancats which were all new in ARR.

I sometimes wonder how the frick the XI devs managed their suffering with having to animate key scenes on a per race/sex basis, due to no shared rigs.
FFXI unironically has higher production value even though it's a PS2 game. The fact that mithras and elvaan have all of the gear in the game specially tuned to their ears and tails is a huge improvement over what XIV offers.
It's moronic, since you'd think modern workflows and software would make animating scenes easier/faster/cheaper than the days of FFXI. The only thing ARR's rigs have over XI's is more points of articulation for the faces, so it's not like the task of animating body movement itself is any more laborious.
PS2 was simply the perfect sweet spot between graphic fidelity and how long it actually takes to make something that looks decent. same reason silent hill 2 runs laps around the 360 silent hill games despite being on objectively worse hardware
SH2/3 were very stiff animation-wise, despite excellent looking models for the time. As far as animating shit goes, the amount of work needed to do it for XI vs. ARR is very negligible, especially since their workflow for ARR wouldn't require running this shit all through a PS2Tool to preview it inengine on their propriety cutscene staging software.

Looking up crafting materials on your server. But a max level retainer can get 50x items from previous expacs at a time. If they sell for 200-300, you make a frick ton of money. If they take a while to sell, you can just stockpile them in your retainer until prices go up. You won't make a frickton of money that way, but it's passive income with no downside

Ashelia? Is she from the later Bozja storyline? I can't remember her, but I dunno if I missed some side shit with Bozja beyond the raid storyline.
She's relevant to the Ivalice alliance raids. Her death 30 years ago is what prompts the lizard mercenaries to be antagonists during the lighthouse raid, and her "body double" was being mentored by Fran to be an upcoming leader of her rebellion group in Bozja. It's revealed in notes in Bozja proper that this body double is the real Ashelia awakened from a magic coma, and her death years ago was faked. Your sole indirect interaction with her is for Fran to force you to refuse her request, so Ashelia can be taught that not everything will work out her way.
Then she's never brought up again.

Bozja wasn't that popular so the story was killed off fast, people here tend to hate it though personally I quite enjoy anything with those themes and I unironically love Ivalice stuff. Friendly reminder the same people complained about there being no Bozja style content in Endwalker.

There's some stuff in the field notes that conflict with previous lore. And the story itself can't seem to decide what it wants to do in some cases, like it can't decide if the Queen being summoned is a primal or a lucavi, and it waffles back and forth from cutscene to cutscene based on what rules Matsuno wants to follow at that moment.
Mikoto is randomly revealed to have the Echo, and her Echo is super special and lets her see the future. And the whole fricking thing with Cid telling her she can just not get on the airship she's been seeing, and she insists on it anyway. That's the dumbest fricking plot thread I've ever seen.
There's the scene where Misija has Mikoto hostage and nobody dares advance on her. But then Misija kicks Mikoto away from her and goes into an Echo vision (which we know from personal experience makes her unconscious) and STILL nobody arrests her that entire time she's having the vision.
Misija's character in general is a fricking disaster because she's supposedly helping Gabranth because she believes Bajsaljen is too naive and will be betrayed, but then she's also helping Menenius to betray Gabranth for some fricking reason. Then when she gets the power of a primal/lucavi/combo she decides to torture the only people who were ever nice to her and never goes after the shiteating nobles who were plotting to kill Bajsaljen. And then the story treats it like her behavior was the fault of everyone else.

A boring cast with no chemistry, a ho-hum narrative that plods along as slowly as the combat, political "intrigue" that's about as intriguing as a root canal, with a protagonist who is barely there, who does not matter, and who is literally not consequential to anything or anyone except -Penelo. The combat sucks, exploration sucks, and the only way you could get me to touch that game again would be if I wanted an efficient treatment for my insomnia.

Play video games before you talk about them. Vaan is vital to the whole story. He's the backup plan for the Occuria should Ashe fail or refuse her mission. And then ironically he's the one who convinces Ashe to refuse them. Vaan acts like her moral compass, he's the Sam to Ashe's Frodo, keeping her grounded and connected to her people which is her true loyalty.

With this level of reading comprehension, we both know you haven't read Lord of the Rings. I was specifically comparing the character dynamic between Vaan and Ashe to that of Sam and Frodo. Sam is Frodo's subject/squire, he's the one who keeps Frodo on the proper path and reminds him what he's fighting for, and he's the one who forestalls his corruption by the ring's power. That's exactly the role Vaan serves to Ashe in the story, who has to be reminded she's fighting for Dalmasca and not the wishes of the Occuria, and that the power they offer isn't worth the price. Yoshi ain't perfect but he's ai'ight. It takes a team and he does at least his specialty role on it well. Gamedev is hard and you have to make compromises on what gets your attention, as your budget is limited and some shit is just a pain in the ass to deal with when fricking with legacy spaghetti codebases. At least they're getting around to Viera hats now.
Bozja was also fun for the 70-80 stretch. I haven't tried Eureka so can't comment. Matsuno has done some great work as both a writer and designer, some of it less so on one side than the other. When he has less control over a product his work suffers; when he has more he often knocks it out of the park.

Last guy here, don't agree, even if the story went to shit. Maybe it was super bad on release or something, but the steroids FATEs were kinda cool using it as a leveling zone. No real thoughts on the Alliance raids as I don't really like Alliance raids.
Because Matsuno can't actually write interesting storylines and wasted too much dev time so they had to wrap up Bozja. Not to say they won't ever bring it back, XIV has the uncanny trait of actually using old plot threads from prior expansions.

Bozja is still pretty populated last time I looked, and more sprouts are funneling into Eureka because that's their big endgame grind for free trials.
It certainly is still populated enough, even on EU. I ran my alt through it in preparation for relic farming when DT launches.

I've been getting a lot of weird tanks that will sit on their ass aggoing the first pack of mobs during a wall pull for like 15 seconds before running to the next. I assume this is a WoW thing.
youll see a lot of side pulls too.
Speaking from way back in ShB experience, but in roulettes I'd often get DPS who would try and go ham on the mobs you'd tag from afar while running by so maybe it's an over-response to people not being patient and ripping aggro too early.
when i started tanking i used to do my best to get those strays the dps run and get but then i realize those Black folk were moronic so i just go my own pace.

I've said it before but Matsuno is really good at establishing a setting and making up 1000 years of lore for the setting but he cannot write a narrative. You need a narrative writer to actually create a plot from his writings.
