My guess is that in the attempts to homogenize the bones and setups for all of the character models so that they can create assets and animations more easily going forwards, they accidentally stripped down the fangs and never checked back on it.

the crazy thing is in terms of overall asset quality, faces are still damn small texture-size, but they use no material limits and stack layers of textures on top of each other plus the new shaders to compensate. still gonna need hair upscale mods to make the most of makeup, facial hair and the finer details though.

This is a datamine from a table regarding actions which mutate into other actions, either due to a trait upgrade, or temporarily in combat. This is not an exhaustive list of job changes. Type 8 = relates to job gauge, "unknown" probably means new
the AST rework is just going to be having card sets cycled. bole/balance, spear/spire, arrow/ewer, you press draw and will get one of the set say bole. hitting redraw swaps it to its counterpart, balance. hitting draw again will now get you another set, say arrow. repeat until you have 3 seals and then you can use div, just like ShB

Problem with this is that it raises the skill floor so you lose a lot of the roulette noobs. A more involved damage rotation preserves the skill floor while raising the ceiling. I would like to see some different damage profiles in savage though, Abyssos was a good start for that.
If they make the damage interesting enough I'll start healing casual content again and then it's no problem. But until then I need those shitters to keep my roulette queues working properly.

I don't really see how. If you force players to GCD heal every time healing is needed, it conditions players to better notice times when healing or healing + oGCD is needed, based on the amount of damage certain attacks do. Right now it's the reverse, it's oGCD or oGCD + healing.

The issue with older content is twofold
1. Stat crunch hammered a lot of the difficulty
2. Dungeons haven't been scary for the player since like HW, so the only real challenge is giant pulls and even those are only actually difficult these days in Bardam's Mettle, Mt. Glug, and Holminster Switch before first boss pulls

They could delete dosis or whatever and you just… do nothing until you had to make a tactical decision. Having a “healing rotation” would make healing pointless, because it would be the exact same play style as a dps. Both tanks and healers have different problems to solve than dps, and tanks and healers prefer solving those problems to memorizing a 32 key sequence
What they add doesn't have to be a rotation as involved as a DPS. Even in heavensward tank and healer rotations weren't as complex as DPS. I just said DPS because I don't think they'd give every healer an Astro-type card mini game and don't know of a way to accomplish similar levels of involvement without adding damage buttons.

Give them a rotation. Tanks have a 123 and basic 2min window, they play like a watered down melee with mitigation. I don't see how healers have to play like a moronic SMN who macros their entire rotation to 1 button + healing. Or go back to SB type of healing and tell WHM to shut the frick up. morons got pissed SCH/AST dominated and they couldn't play them because they're too moronic so the devs lobotomized the whole role.
You can't. Healers have at this point been longer in a terrible state (4.0 and onwards) than fun and unique (2.0-3.0). Over half the playerbase only know healers by their "211111111111" gameplay. And while Im sure some would welcome a return to form, Ive even had discussions with sprouts who said "I like healers but think it would be fun if they had x, y and z." And every time I respond with "They used to x, y and z." Barring that Yoshi-P can't use his "but think of the Sprouts!!!" defense anymore you meet the absolute roadblock that is raiding in this game. By the time a job is made it's fate is already sealed: It's not meant to have fun and gain skills organically, have skills unique that fit the job identity with special effects, buffs and debuffs and some incoinveniences that are fun to play around. No, every job is made to adhere to the 2 minute meta. Balance is more important than fun and even if we make SE admit they dont give a shit about jobs outside raiding then they are too deep to get out now. Out of the massive studio that is CBU3, they have maybe one or two people doing the jobs, and one was moved to another department for "being too good at healer." Jobs in ARR lent a certain DnD aspect to them with all having things that aren't clear how best to use, but you learn how to get the most out of it as you level and play. SE puts a thousand workers on making the dresses pretty and make Black Mage always feel good to play, anything else is set to lowest priority.

Paladin is good in dungeons because it's invuln has 0 gimmicks or drawbacks, you can just pop hallowed ground on the first pack and be invincible, then it's back up for the last ones. DRK and GNB's invulns rely on your healer not being moronic, which is a pretty high bar for most dungeon healers.

PLD is by far the squishiest tank in 71~81 dungeons. They're nearly as unkillable as WAR once they get healing on all their spells at 84 though.
DRK in past games spends its HP to empower its attacks and then can drain the lost HP right back.
In HW they could drain HP with Blood Weapon, drain MP with Blood Price, and they leaned heavily into parrying physical attacks and could follow up with Low Blow any time they parried. WAR still had bigger personal healing, but DRK had a constant stream of self healing as long as Blood Weapon was up.

Square seems really committed to having one utterly braindead/"accessible" job per role. WAR for tanks, WHM for healers, SMN for dps. With any of those jobs, in casual content at least, you can literally play dungeons with one hand, hitting at most 3 buttons for the whole run.

It's because it is, WHM's general approach is significantly easier. SGE can handle things more easily and has more options in moment to moment, but more options also means higher execution barrier ie complexity.

I think DRG is slightly harder, but it's very close. It's true that the rotation is basically set in stone, but there are annoying things you have to worry about like animation locks on your jumps (especially Stardiver) and the clunkiness of Dragon Sight.
Can't you say that about any class' weapon? Only so many variations on a katana, only so many variations on a rapier, only so many variations on a scythe, etc.

I was a bit worried so I messed around with it in both character creators- new teeth look better in 99% of situations where my Lala is just smiling or opening their mouth, looks weird in the 1% of situations where the emote opens their mouth very wide and I purposefully aim the camera up at their open mouth. And it's not even "now it looks weird," it just looks weird in a different way than the old teeth did.
I realize we already have two weeb classes, but I was really hoping pictomancer would be something more like this rather than splatoon. Oh well, that's what mods are for I guess.

It is really close, I just wanted to point out that from the JP perspective au ra aren't necessarily as big of a deal as they are for other regions.

My guess is that in the attempts to homogenize the bones and setups for all of the character models so that they can create assets and animations more easily going forwards, they accidentally stripped down the fangs and never checked back on it.

the crazy thing is in terms of overall asset quality, faces are still damn small texture-size, but they use no material limits and stack layers of textures on top of each other plus the new shaders to compensate. still gonna need hair upscale mods to make the most of makeup, facial hair and the finer details though.

the AST rework is just going to be having card sets cycled. bole/balance, spear/spire, arrow/ewer, you press draw and will get one of the set say bole. hitting redraw swaps it to its counterpart, balance. hitting draw again will now get you another set, say arrow. repeat until you have 3 seals and then you can use div, just like ShB

You kill them and end their suffering.
You give moonies their fangs back
in a way you can't, because part of fixing healers involves the difficulty and nuance of content itself
and the healer majority are fricking worthless healbots who would kick and scream if they needed a lot more oomph to get through even basic casual content

Give them a few more damage buttons like in Stormblood
Add a bit more single target damage during raids
And some more "white hole" style mechs

Healing is more fun at lvl 50 than lvl 90, so yes, remove all those oGCDs, or make them only damage-based

Problem with this is that it raises the skill floor so you lose a lot of the roulette noobs. A more involved damage rotation preserves the skill floor while raising the ceiling. I would like to see some different damage profiles in savage though, Abyssos was a good start for that.

I don't really see how. If you force players to GCD heal every time healing is needed, it conditions players to better notice times when healing or healing + oGCD is needed, based on the amount of damage certain attacks do. Right now it's the reverse, it's oGCD or oGCD + healing.

The problem I have when people give this solution is that it would only involve the newest raid content. I raid every tier but most of my playtime is still dungeon/AR roulettes, trials, and field instances including all the old ones. More damage buttons has to be the answer because it's the only thing that'd address the problem of the majority of content being totally braindead since they are never going to rework old stuff or add healing difficulty to current casual content.
If they just dropped ilvl synch 20 lvls across the board, roulettes would be lively. 1 1 1 spam exists because the game is designed around the player pushing a button every 2.5 seconds, and healing being a tactical decision. They could delete dosis or whatever and you just… do nothing until you had to make a tactical decision. Having a “healing rotation” would make healing pointless, because it would be the exact same play style as a dps. Both tanks and healers have different problems to solve than dps, and tanks and healers prefer solving those problems to memorizing a 32 key sequence
What they add doesn't have to be a rotation as involved as a DPS. Even in heavensward tank and healer rotations weren't as complex as DPS. I just said DPS because I don't think they'd give every healer an Astro-type card mini game and don't know of a way to accomplish similar levels of involvement without adding damage buttons.

Give them a rotation. Tanks have a 123 and basic 2min window, they play like a watered down melee with mitigation. You can't. Healers have at this point been longer in a terrible state (4.0 and onwards) than fun and unique (2.0-3.0). Over half the playerbase only know healers by their "211111111111" gameplay. And while Im sure some would welcome a return to form, Ive even had discussions with sprouts who said "I like healers but think it would be fun if they had x, y and z." And every time I respond with "They used to x, y and z." Barring that Yoshi-P can't use his "but think of the Sprouts!!!" defense anymore you meet the absolute roadblock that is raiding in this game. By the time a job is made it's fate is already sealed: It's not meant to have fun and gain skills organically, have skills unique that fit the job identity with special effects, buffs and debuffs and some incoinveniences that are fun to play around. No, every job is made to adhere to the 2 minute meta. Balance is more important than fun and even if we make SE admit they dont give a shit about jobs outside raiding then they are too deep to get out now. Out of the massive studio that is CBU3, they have maybe one or two people doing the jobs, and one was moved to another department for "being too good at healer." Jobs in ARR lent a certain DnD aspect to them with all having things that aren't clear how best to use, but you learn how to get the most out of it as you level and play. SE puts a thousand workers on making the dresses pretty and make Black Mage always feel good to play, anything else is set to lowest priority.

Paladin is good in dungeons because it's invuln has 0 gimmicks or drawbacks, you can just pop hallowed ground on the first pack and be invincible, then it's back up for the last ones. DRK and GNB's invulns rely on your healer not being moronic, which is a pretty high bar for most dungeon healers.
drk invuln doesnt rely on the healer anymore you can just heal yourself now.
It still relies on actually hitting 1 HP, so if the healer panics and just pumps heals to keep you from triggering it then it can completely frick things over.

The healer still has to let you drop to 1 before you can start healing yourself. I've lost count of the number of times I've popped LD, even after telling the healer I'm going to do it, only for them to start panic healing me, rendering the entire thing useless.

PLD is by far the squishiest tank in 71~81 dungeons. They're nearly as unkillable as WAR once they get healing on all their spells at 84 though.
DRK in past games spends its HP to empower its attacks and then can drain the lost HP right back.
In HW they could drain HP with Blood Weapon, drain MP with Blood Price, and they leaned heavily into parrying physical attacks and could follow up with Low Blow any time they parried. WAR still had bigger personal healing, but DRK had a constant stream of self healing as long as Blood Weapon was up.
WAR is the everything homogenization tank that refuses to change its core gameplan since ARR.
Players seem to like it so instead of innovate on what it does they just keep slapping other tank's mechanics on it.

Square seems really committed to having one utterly braindead/"accessible" job per role. WAR for tanks, WHM for healers, SMN for dps. With any of those jobs, in casual content at least, you can literally play dungeons with one hand, hitting at most 3 buttons for the whole run.

It's because it is, WHM's general approach is significantly easier. SGE can handle things more easily and has more options in moment to moment, but more options also means higher execution barrier ie complexity.

DRG is super easy to play it is a 1234412344 loop. Add in a oGCD per GCD and that is the class. Made even easier without having to maintain BotD anymore. I don't know why they are reworking the class when it already is already a strong staple of how melee should play.
About the same. A bit easier basic rotation since you're always doing 1234516754 and never have to care about filler gcds. They do have more ocgds to manage than sam though and being locked in place for jumps feels worse than iajutsu cast bars.
I think DRG is slightly harder, but it's very close. It's true that the rotation is basically set in stone, but there are annoying things you have to worry about like animation locks on your jumps (especially Stardiver) and the clunkiness of Dragon Sight.

I was a bit worried so I messed around with it in both character creators- new teeth look better in 99% of situations where my Lala is just smiling or opening their mouth, looks weird in the 1% of situations where the emote opens their mouth very wide and I purposefully aim the camera up at their open mouth. And it's not even "now it looks weird," it just looks weird in a different way than the old teeth did.

I went to the UK fanfest, believe me that there are a shit load of women who play this game.
