I've never played an MMO or a FF game. Should I try the free trial of this? I like the concept of MMOs but I have no friends, is there a good way to meet them in-game? Or is it a very loney experience as a singe player, does it just play like a single player game?
The MSQ (main-story quest) is pretty much a solo thing.
It gets group-based depending on what you are doing. You can do dungeons in a group and trials require a group, but those are basically you going into them, finishing them, and leaving. For actual group-based interaction, you'll have to seek it out. Most of it is at endgame, but you can facilitate some earlier on via like Palace of the Dead or Eureka.
It's very single-player focused, now more than ever. The story is primarily single-player, you will see lots of people in the over-world while doing ARR but there's not much reason to interact with them, you can do dungeons with others via matchmaking or just choose to do them with AI companions, I think trials (story boss fights) still require real players but that can be done via matchmaking as well. People don't chat much during duties, with the exception being alliance raids occasionally (24man optional content, also can be done via matchmaking) You don't get a state-mandated bestie or anything, its not particularly easy making friends in game but neither is it impossible I suppose
XIV is actually at its best as a single player experience. The playerbase are a bunch of mentally ill degenerates and the less interaction with them the better. As a single player FF game it's very good though, yes.

You can play it as such, in face I would say this is where it excels. You'll get varying enjoyment out of the early arcs depending on your interests but it becomes more satisfying the further you progress.

Why do some shitty healers refuse to use Aspected Benefic or Regen, especially in dungeons? They're both 1500 pots, GCD's yes, but instant cast so you can even use them during movement. Take away half your workload.
I miss the days when you could directly pump your HoT potency by stacking more VIT(which increased Enhancing Magic, which Regen fell under), as well as gear with direct increases to HoT spells.

Have a connectiong bridge. Let us traverse one of those elevated highways, etc.

I'm enjoying the event, but it really is a preview of how the game is going to be in Dawntrail. All this new multiplayer content, Exploration zone and more large scale multiplayer focused stuff, yet the player base won't talk, they'll run in Blu-mage it and run out afraid to interact.
I've tried for over three days to get into groups by talking in the in game chat and not a single response. I see lots of players around don't get my wrong, but no one is talking in game.
They're all in Discord, linkshells or FC chat mainly discord.
Limited jobs were a mistake for this reason. They are intentionally overpowered so of course people will use them to grind what they can. Before they came out, people would group up to run FATEs. They still do somewhat, but the experience is soured by the BLUs and soon to be BST.
On my server I always see people shouting LFG for FATE grind. Maybe try travelling to a different server?
Pretty sure people still do that was shb and ew fates, when I was unlocking all 90 fates title I had like 3 or 4 other people with me and it’s even more at the start of the expansion
I think it's a mindset of some people, for me I ask myself why am I playing an mmo? Is it for the achievements for the item hunting? Or is it for the interaction, for the experience that you can't find in other games.
I'm not playing for achievements, I really don't care for that, for minmaxing I think that mentality is what has killed the fun out of mmos.
The community is as much to blame as the devs, I will always use the Fallguys event as a way how moronic mmo players are, they took an event that was meant to be some casual fun with other people and they min maxed it to where there were raid guides people were using on second monitors for drop patterns on the final gauntlet run. They did that because they wanted the achievement, they don't care about social interaction.
It's not a community problem, it's literally a you problem. It's a "people are not playing how I want" kind of problem. The game offers a frickton of content, some is social and some is not, just because you saw people optimize some of the content that would otherwise require far too much time or be downright impossible to obtain doesn't mean any of those players are playing wrong.

The game isn't difficult, if I want to play the game for item hunting, loot, for doing hard content I'll go play a game that has better netcode, that has better loot. Allag was technically more advanced technologically and the Omicrons definitely were. Karellians as well.
Amaurot wasn't meant to be technologically advanced, even though it looked kind of like an Art-Deco fairly modern city. You must remember that the Amaurotines aren't a technologically inclined race, because they are able to use magic to get what other races would need to develop with tech.
Amaurot struck me as culturally advanced but not technologically so. We didn't see much tech from them until later with Kairos in Elpis which is also mostly a justification for Emet-Selch being able to uplift Allag and Garlemald, supporting evidence that they weren't technologically illiterate. They're wizards so powerful that they enabled a post-scarcity society, they could just imagine a sandwich if they were hungry, after all what use for tech would they really have in 99.99% of circumstances?
And even then Allag was probably higher up technologically than the Ancients were, they figured out aetherochemistry which was largely a fancy term for magitek, but was dangerously close to a mechanical version of creation magic towards its end. There's no telling how much of Kairos was actually mechanical and how much was magical, too.
I got the Jibanyan minion. Apparently this event wants you to have access to Heavensward and Stormblood to 100% it. So I'm just continuing along with the MSQ and blue quests instead.
Yeah, so the StB/ShB weapons (RDM/SAM/GNB/DNC) were added when the event came back for the third time in 2020, so HW/StB zones were used for that.

It's the same gameplay and story purpose as Eulmore, second-to-last zone. Same as how Eulmore was shown off but not Amaurot, or how Azys La wasn't shown off in Heavensward.

The New World is pretty much a mystery to everyone in the Old World besides a few select people that bothered to explore over there. Aldenard, Othard and Meracydia are a mythical Eurasia + Japan & China that didn't immediately colonize the absolute shit out of everything it saw on the open waters
Sharlayan does seem to have a lot of literature on the New World.
But even they don't seem to know anything about Solution 9, even though it doesn't seem to be hidden at all geographically
Solution 9 is a civilization from the 12th shard that enacted a plan to escape their destroyed world after the calamity there created an eternal storm. They teleported their capital to the source, which would explain why the surrounding lands of Heritage Found is still impacted by said storms also being aetherically transferred.
That's a good idea. But the lightning aspected rejoining happened thousands of years ago, which begs the question why this civilization didn't have more impact on the world.
Maybe it's because time between the shards is weird, and they only arrived on the Source recently.

Perhaps one that had a reincarnation who decided to stop chasing after Zodiark and built a new civilization or was preparing a fail safe solution if something went wrong during the aether switcharoo between ancients' aether to newlife aether inside Zodiark..

It also goes without saying that Altima's sigil is fashioned after the 'other' ivalice Ultima, the totema/patron of the nu mou in TA. While Ultima in Orbonne initially resembles this design, it's clearly not the same thing. Altima/Ultima also does not have a parallel scion name, unlike Lahabrea to Mateus, etc. Zodiark didn't have one either, until Elidibus was made for FFXIV.
Given that the ending of Pandemonium is clearly setting up future conflicts regarding Ultima's existence, Altima could likely be the source or herald of them, or a new ally

I’ve heard sage is the best healer. Scholar interests me because you have the fairy doing the healing which is more my speed, I play with controller and it’s annoying highlighting people to heal. Astrologian should be my favorite with what it looks like and does but I set up the controller layout and it’s a mess to learn
Sage has the better aesthetics between it and Scholar and its stack system makes a lot more sense, but it does play as kind of a halfway between White Mage and Scholar
The faerie doesn't actually do a lot of healing once you're out of ARR but picks up a deal again when you can transform it into Seraph
AST is the worst on controller, the others are fine.
The fairy doesn't do that much healing, you still need to be pressing your heal buttons. SGE and SCH will feel very similar to play, but it's harder to go wrong as SGE whereas SCH has some ways you can frick yourself over.
The hardest part of learning SGE is just reading tooltips, it's a very easy job to play.

I recommend just jumping straight into Sage and doing Holminster Switch, Sage's crux is the fact that it has defensive cooldowns and those come in excellently in handy. A very common pair-up for basically ignoring the tank for long periods in mob pulls is use Kerachole and then Haima for a shield effect with a heavy defensive boost on top of that. Just be careful you're not pissing off your DRK and wasting his TBN
AST is the worst on controller, the others are fine.
The fairy doesn't do that much healing, you still need to be pressing your heal buttons. SGE and SCH will feel very similar to play, but it's harder to go wrong as SGE whereas SCH has some ways you can frick yourself over.
The hardest part of learning SGE is just reading tooltips, it's a very easy job to play.
I plau controller too, healing isn't hard on it.
Set R3 to swap to your target's target and 90% of the time you need to aim something at a tank it's effortless.
Even AST is fine, I'd just suggest looking up draw macros if you really want to learn it.

Hermes is technically the real big bad by causing all of it to begin with, yeah, but explaining away that "the random boss dude based off of an FF3 fight in the Crystal Tower was actually an Ascian that left a clone behind, and he was planning on killing everyone because they destroyed the Allagan kingdom he cherished on top of being really depressed and inwardly sociopathic in his Ancient life was the cause of the entire storyline" made it come off as the most contrived pile of linking random shit together to justify it all.
It was just lame, it "works" but it doesn't feel satisfying.

I've never played an MMO or a FF game. Should I try the free trial of this? I like the concept of MMOs but I have no friends, is there a good way to meet them in-game? Or is it a very loney experience as a singe player, does it just play like a single player game?
The MSQ (main-story quest) is pretty much a solo thing.
It gets group-based depending on what you are doing. You can do dungeons in a group and trials require a group, but those are basically you going into them, finishing them, and leaving. For actual group-based interaction, you'll have to seek it out. Most of it is at endgame, but you can facilitate some earlier on via like Palace of the Dead or Eureka.
It's very single-player focused, now more than ever. The story is primarily single-player, you will see lots of people in the over-world while doing ARR but there's not much reason to interact with them, you can do dungeons with others via matchmaking or just choose to do them with AI companions, I think trials (story boss fights) still require real players but that can be done via matchmaking as well. People don't chat much during duties, with the exception being alliance raids occasionally (24man optional content, also can be done via matchmaking) You don't get a state-mandated bestie or anything, its not particularly easy making friends in game but neither is it impossible I suppose
XIV is actually at its best as a single player experience. The playerbase are a bunch of mentally ill degenerates and the less interaction with them the better. As a single player FF game it's very good though, yes.

I'm enjoying the event, but it really is a preview of how the game is going to be in Dawntrail. All this new multiplayer content, Exploration zone and more large scale multiplayer focused stuff, yet the player base won't talk, they'll run in Blu-mage it and run out afraid to interact.
I've tried for over three days to get into groups by talking in the in game chat and not a single response. I see lots of players around don't get my wrong, but no one is talking in game.
They're all in Discord, linkshells or FC chat mainly discord.
Limited jobs were a mistake for this reason. They are intentionally overpowered so of course people will use them to grind what they can. Before they came out, people would group up to run FATEs. They still do somewhat, but the experience is soured by the BLUs and soon to be BST.
On my server I always see people shouting LFG for FATE grind. Maybe try travelling to a different server?
Pretty sure people still do that was shb and ew fates, when I was unlocking all 90 fates title I had like 3 or 4 other people with me and it’s even more at the start of the expansion
You can't blame people for using the tools that they're given. Why waste time when oneshotting mobs as BLU lets you finish the event faster?
I think it's a mindset of some people, for me I ask myself why am I playing an mmo? Is it for the achievements for the item hunting? Or is it for the interaction, for the experience that you can't find in other games.
I'm not playing for achievements, I really don't care for that, for minmaxing I think that mentality is what has killed the fun out of mmos.
The community is as much to blame as the devs, I will always use the Fallguys event as a way how moronic mmo players are, they took an event that was meant to be some casual fun with other people and they min maxed it to where there were raid guides people were using on second monitors for drop patterns on the final gauntlet run. They did that because they wanted the achievement, they don't care about social interaction.
It's not a community problem, it's literally a you problem. It's a "people are not playing how I want" kind of problem. The game offers a frickton of content, some is social and some is not, just because you saw people optimize some of the content that would otherwise require far too much time or be downright impossible to obtain doesn't mean any of those players are playing wrong.
Like, do you actually engage in content that requires talking to people?
The game isn't difficult, if I want to play the game for item hunting, loot, for doing hard content I'll go play a game that has better netcode, that has better loot. I'm here for the social interaction and if the game and community as a whole thinks of that in an mmo to have social interaction is secondary. Then what am I here for?
You're collecting achievements to show off to who? You don't care about social interaction so who cares what you have collected? You have titles like Epic Hero and Ultimate Legend but again you don't care about social interaction so no one will care you have those, your housing, your glams no one cares what you have collected and what you look like because you don't care for social interaction.

Allag was technically more advanced technologically and the Omicrons definitely were. Karellians as well.
Amaurot wasn't meant to be technologically advanced, even though it looked kind of like an Art-Deco fairly modern city. You must remember that the Amaurotines aren't a technologically inclined race, because they are able to use magic to get what other races would need to develop with tech.
Amaurot struck me as culturally advanced but not technologically so. We didn't see much tech from them until later with Kairos in Elpis which is also mostly a justification for Emet-Selch being able to uplift Allag and Garlemald, supporting evidence that they weren't technologically illiterate. They're wizards so powerful that they enabled a post-scarcity society, they could just imagine a sandwich if they were hungry, after all what use for tech would they really have in 99.99% of circumstances?
And even then Allag was probably higher up technologically than the Ancients were, they figured out aetherochemistry which was largely a fancy term for magitek, but was dangerously close to a mechanical version of creation magic towards its end. There's no telling how much of Kairos was actually mechanical and how much was magical, too.

I got the Jibanyan minion. Apparently this event wants you to have access to Heavensward and Stormblood to 100% it. So I'm just continuing along with the MSQ and blue quests instead.
Yeah, so the StB/ShB weapons (RDM/SAM/GNB/DNC) were added when the event came back for the third time in 2020, so HW/StB zones were used for that.
That's why speedran through the MSQ with my free trial character cause I wanted to complete it with her. Got WAR to 70 also and decked her out in i400 Scaevan gear.

Solution 9 is a civilization from the 12th shard that enacted a plan to escape their destroyed world after the calamity there created an eternal storm. They teleported their capital to the source, which would explain why the surrounding lands of Heritage Found is still impacted by said storms also being aetherically transferred.

Given that the ending of Pandemonium is clearly setting up future conflicts regarding Ultima's existence, Altima could likely be the source or herald of them, or a new ally

sage is better if you need to be pressing lots of buttons. when you get decent at healing switch to astrologian
I’ve heard sage is the best healer. Scholar interests me because you have the fairy doing the healing which is more my speed, I play with controller and it’s annoying highlighting people to heal. Astrologian should be my favorite with what it looks like and does but I set up the controller layout and it’s a mess to learn
Sage has the better aesthetics between it and Scholar and its stack system makes a lot more sense, but it does play as kind of a halfway between White Mage and Scholar
The faerie doesn't actually do a lot of healing once you're out of ARR but picks up a deal again when you can transform it into Seraph

I recommend just jumping straight into Sage and doing Holminster Switch, Sage's crux is the fact that it has defensive cooldowns and those come in excellently in handy. A very common pair-up for basically ignoring the tank for long periods in mob pulls is use Kerachole and then Haima for a shield effect with a heavy defensive boost on top of that. Just be careful you're not pissing off your DRK and wasting his TBN
AST is the worst on controller, the others are fine.
The fairy doesn't do that much healing, you still need to be pressing your heal buttons. SGE and SCH will feel very similar to play, but it's harder to go wrong as SGE whereas SCH has some ways you can frick yourself over.
The hardest part of learning SGE is just reading tooltips, it's a very easy job to play.
I plau controller too, healing isn't hard on it.
Set R3 to swap to your target's target and 90% of the time you need to aim something at a tank it's effortless.
Even AST is fine, I'd just suggest looking up draw macros if you really want to learn it.
There should be more outfits with boob windows (that also aren't modern trash)

it's like the people who cried about meteion when almost every big issue facing the people of the star (and even its reflections) is caused by an ancient/ascian in some way or another
Meteion as a final hazard was kinda lame because despite the scale and stakes it felt like there wasn't much to justify it but a really dumb science project. Hermes is technically the real big bad by causing all of it to begin with, yeah, but explaining away that "the random boss dude based off of an FF3 fight in the Crystal Tower was actually an Ascian that left a clone behind, and he was planning on killing everyone because they destroyed the Allagan kingdom he cherished on top of being really depressed and inwardly sociopathic in his Ancient life was the cause of the entire storyline" made it come off as the most contrived pile of linking random shit together to justify it all.
It was just lame, it "works" but it doesn't feel satisfying.

The point is that the Weapon's Project has been going on even before Solus' death, which means Elidibus and Emet knew about it, and approved it.
I would imagine they approved it given that Garlemald is intended to be Allag 2.0, a warmongering empire desperately larping as Ancients

Funnily enough, even Emet, the queen of drama and self-aggrandizement himself, is more humble than the average Emetgay.
I like Emet-Selch but they're leaning way too hard on the character and he's already starting to wear out his welcome. He was a cool villain with an understandable motivation and had a satisfying death. There was no need to introduce a time travel section where we hang out with him doing shenanigans in Elpis, or have him summoned back at the end of the story to save the day.
I bet we go to different reflections in the patches after the expansion drops, if not the final zone being a reflection itself but all fricked up or something
