Originally I hated what they did to the series in 7, but honestly this game shouldn't slap so much. It's way too good.

it was my first yakuza game, just beat it the other day. love it. playing through Gaiden now (kinda a drag tbh) because I want to play infinite wealth asap
Gaiden was rushed. It makes me think that they do want to continue making the Old school type of Yakuza game.
This is probably one of the best JRPGs of all time.
Infinite Wealth it's the rushed one, story-wise it's a total unfinished mess, especially in the final chapters
>This is probably one of the best JRPGs of all time.
kys
Pretty sure you don't really need to play Gayden before Infinite Welp
I might not but I'm not familiar with Kiriu at all, figured I should because he's in infinite wealth
Playing IW without knowing Kiryu's story just isn't worth it.
His sections rely heavily on nostalgia and "remember this?" stuff.
Just play the games in order.
Yeah, a good deal of this game is a victory lap around the entire franchise as a means of being a send-off for its protagonist and how he's affected the world.
Also Ichiban gets CANCELLED like four times and runs around Hawaii for 100 hours
They're taking the piss here. I've bought everything from the store and S ranked every course.
don't even bother with all the minigames. You can easily max out kiryu's stats just doing all the memory quests.
I'm 100%ing the game, minigames are sort of part of the deal. It's just that things like this, lmao2spikeout, and the Crazy Delivery/Sicko Snap/m whatever stores didn't have their requirements checked out.
Moose have you ever thought about having sex instead of 100%ing every Yakuza game so you can brag about it on /v?
When I saw that I had to play through Spikeout again with Kiryu I had the honest urge to choke someone.
I stopped caring about the completion lists once I maxed Ichiban's Personality and Kiryu's DoD.
Here's hoping the romance subplot is kill in the next game.
Actually I want to see how Ichiban and Saeko will behave in the party while they are in a relationship, for example Ichi doing some of those bingo friendship moments with other girls in the group or substories involving other women.
Same, I expect something similar to City Hunter between them. A comical relationship with a few romantic moments
moron kun
No, I'm tired of bait bullshit like Kaoru.
Frick off.
Frick you, it was the best part of the game, i hope thye act all lovey dovey in yakuza 9
i want my man ichiban to knock her up
>ends on a joke
It’s over
its just the nature of ishiban and saeko
its not over at all
Frick off play a VN instead, homosexual.
This, holy frick. Shitmance has no place in games like these.
Is there no way to increase Dragon of Dojima's attack? It's my favorite class but it falls off hard once enemies reach level 30 or so
Awakening buffs some of the stuff it has, but that's about it.
For most of the game I felt like it kept up just fine due to the massive stat growth. It takes like 35 job levels in it to have the attack of a final weapon. End-game, the combination of no brands, no weapon damage effect (aquanaut, chef, etc), and Kiryu's specific armor being purely defensive is a real bummer. Maybe the stat growth to 99 can eventually bridge that, but by that point you're done anyway. If I had to stay on dragon of dojima I'd probably try to play into the tank benefits of the armor, use enrage moves, and sit in beast style to get damage buffs for perfect blocking.
7's fun for what it is, could be better gameplay wise but the characters are charming enough, also its nice to have a single focused narrative.
>Kenzan memory spoils the finale.
he died 380 years ago anon
Sure, but they spoiled the fact that he's not the final boss and that there's still stuff after him.
so like you're doing now? It's not like we're ever going to get Kenzen anyway. I don't think they will do it after getting dragged for their shitty Ishin remake. what a fricking disaster that was.
redpill me on the ishin remake
if you play for the story, it's mostly fine but the combat is jank af. They give you unarmed with a lot of old school Kiryu moves but it is practically worthless. The gunstyle is a bit OP but it's so fricking boring to use until you unlock all of its moves (more on that later). So basically you're left with the one sword style or the sword and gun style (which lets you twirl around and cheese just about everything).
But the biggest issue is that everything is locked behind insane grind. If you play for the story, you won't even unlock 10% of the game. They made it so difficult to make money or get levels or do the minigames for completion that it sucks the soul out of you.
Aside from the negatives, somehow the original PS4 version looks better. For all their talk of using Unreal because of the jank lighting in Dragon Engine, it turned out to be the worst part of the remake. There's a lot of fun to be had in it, and it's by far not a bad game, it's just incredibly disappointing. They could have capitalized on the Ghost of Tsushima success by making the game more streamlined and accessible, it's ultimately a pretty short game but padded out with grind. They allow the use of these battle cards which let you shoot laser beams and have bears attack people. I honestly don't know what the thought process was. Power through it if you want to play it, or be prepared to grind.
The grind isn't THAT bad if you are fine with playing a shit ton of Koi Koi or reloading chicken races. The real problem with it is that it's the ONLY yakuza game where the exchange rate for Platinum Plates isn't equal to the cost of the tokens to buy them so you need to do like 4x the minigame bullshit to get the same payout.
I disagree, I 100% the game, the biggest issue is that you're stuck doing the same shit over and over and over again. in Y7, you had to do a lot of Dragon Kart to 100% the list. but in this game, I ran those dungeons like 300 times. I chased down like 400 sneaks. I played the chicken races 600 times. I'm still traumatized by the courtesan games and the udon shop.
Grinding for materials to complete the blacksmith is by far the worst thing I have ever seen in a RGG game. It reminded me of the Final Fantasy X grid.
She suddenly exposes you worldwide across her Vtuber channel by making up complete bullshit on your account

marry her
Was weird she still had access to her account after Ei-chan replaced her.
You level up stupid fast in Big Swell so grind there if you own it.
>She ends up becoming the CEO of her dads company
>After she got multiple people killed and ruined thousands of lives
I enjoyed both 7 and 8 and I'm glad they are going this direction with it.
Please don't let Lani be the recurring Haruka equivalent for Ichiban

Please don't let Lani be the recurring Haruka equivalent for Ichiban
You know the answer anon, search your feelings.
>game 12
>lani has baby now
Nah. Every game is gonna have a new cripple.
Lani doesn't even have a tenth the charm of Haruka in Yakuza Kiwami.
Kiwami 3 or location for Yakuza 9 confirmed?
Of course Okinawa will be one of 9 location, Ichiban needs to visit his sick Kyodai at the orphanage
>Ichiban and co. fights the orphanage kids
>They're all wrestlers.
>Even the girls.
> Tekken king boss
yeah they can pretty much remake Okinawa without much resource if they just port the old map and replace low res stuff with Hawaii asset
I disagree, the place in Naha that they modeled it after is huge. Yakuza 3 made it look very small and quaint, the Makishi market is mostly pretty good and still holds up but there's a lot of other stuff that needs to be redone.
market:
Okinawa will be there for sure. Ijincho will be there but it will be like Kamurocho, just a place for you to remember stuff.
I honestly think it will not be international in Y9.
I think Y8 felt like a 2 parter. They really haven't fully resolved the 2nd dissolution. So most likely Ichiban and Co. will be traveling in different parts of Japan to really finish it up.
Adachi being ripped threw me off, he should have a dad bod and Nanba shouldn't be fit either
Samegay but still lol'd all the same
The games are good (7,8) but I had to use a trainer to bypass level/money. No way I waste my precious time grinding to advance the story
*level/money walls
Dude just play the management minigame
very based rgg, very based including my wife in your newest game
based
BON VOYAGE!
>Funk Goes On is the theme for Kamurocho battles.
Woke me up and got me to put another hour or so just running around Kamurocho the first time I heard it when I was planning to call it for the night.
I'm guessing you had a similar experience when another certain song played during the Kamurocho part of the finale
>started leaning back during the cutscene
>sit right back up before the first second of audio finishes
>It's the original PS2 version
Thats awesome but I've always considered this Kiryu's theme song
Beat the game not too long ago. How much grinding do I need to take on gay-mon? Everyone's past level 50, their base classes are past level 30, most people have every job at a minimum of 18 or so and everyone's got their exclusive middle armor. Ichiban, Tomizawa, Chitose and Namba have their ultimate weapons.
anyone?
I didn't need any grinding to beat Amon, he's pretty easy in this game as long as you do basic buff debuff tactics, I'd say just go for it
>finally get to roam yokohama as kiryu
>unlock legacy jobs
>clear out all the challenging crown mobs while under leveled
>getting sick loot and money
probably the most fun part of the game
Honestly yeah, playing legend new game plus while underlevelled was way more fun than any parts of my first playthrough, it wasn't just skill mashing
wth does kiryu see in yumi like istg just move on
She's his first love, they grew up together. Doesn't stop him from messing around with the ladies though.
They drop these games every year or less how can they be good?
7 came out 4 years ago.
Spinoffs and rereleases count
Is the JRPG stuff better in this? I was on the fence on 7 but people insisted that the gameplay sucked donkey balls especially for people who don't like JRPGs. 8 looks like it has a lot more variety, and these games always feel like it's a JRPG anyway with how they're structured.
Yes, but unlike 7 it's way easier to get overleveled unless you're only beelining the main story because enemies go up in level every chapter whereas in 7 they only went up in chapter 6 and 11.
I think they took the complaints of people saying they got walled in 7, excessively. I never had an issue leveling up which is good sure.
But the bosses were easy as frick this time around. Like too easy.
They were too easy that I actually had to finish the game and just do some of the extra stuff in premium adventure because I was going to be overleveled.
I've been overleveled since the start and all I've been doing is crowned enemies and substories, that's it. I haven't gone out of my way to fight enemies purposefully outside of the start of the game and right now because I want to get these 200 Beast kills since I don't plan on using this style after this. I did three Sectors of the Hawaiian Haunt but I was barely at the level they wanted me to be for Sectors two and three.
Like, I went into chapter 8 with Kiryu at 41 because of the Hawaiian Haunt, and by the time I got Saeko my crew was in the mid 40s with Kiryu being like 48 just because I was fighting crowned enemies, nothing else. Robo Michio so far was the best fight because it was an actual boss fight with buffing and debuffing and healing and using items and Perfect Guarding. It makes no sense why you would fling basically everything at the player right at the start and expect them to ignore all of it.
tl;dr
game balance bad
>Having lots of trouble with 4 Heavenly Michio
>Came back with full tag team available and won the whole fight with a single R2 press
Huh. At least the finale boss for the other dungeon wasn't this much of a pushover.
I do like all the changes they made to the RPG systems since last game. If they actually keep making a better RPG each time, we might have a really good one by 4 or 5.
>But the bosses were easy as frick this time around. Like too easy.
Yeah they were incredibly easy
I was underleveled as frick through most of the game and the only time I died was due to bad luck with 4 enemies targetting Ichiban in a row
The curse of wanting to get more people in the game I suppose.
If that was the case then just give it a difficulty setting to start with. At least I get a choice.
Getting overlevelled and making everything too easy really sucks here, I wish they balanced it better because there's no thought to it anymore.
technically you're still soft-capped by the level of enemies on the map due to diminishing returns. The one big loophole to that is the dungeons (or powering through the DR with your autism)
While diminishing returns does exist here as well, they screw it up by leveling the enemies every chapter and also having enemies at like level 30+ in some areas when you're in the 20s and then they stick stuff in the level 30 areas. So if you just explore the level 25ish areas (Chinatown is an example) suddenly you can explore the beach because diminishing returns took a nap.
I can't wrap my head around people liking 7 and 8 coming from the other games, with the turn-based combat, Ichiban behaving like a 15 year old anime protag, and his crew of one-dimensional characters being constantly put on the spotlight.
8 was way less painful than 7 in some of these regards, but I'm genuinely curious about what makes them perceived as great Yakuza entries.
Do people really enjoy seeing stuff like Ichiban behaving like he did when he got his first date with Saeko?
Did you just want Kiryu again?
No, it's time they stopped milking him, but any other playable character in 4-5 (Haruka aside) for example would be better suited with the established tone of the game.
Judgement feels like it comes close, but a bit in the opposite direction, with Yagami feeling a bit too much of a blank slate. I'm only 20 hours in on that one though.
I like 7 but not 8
Yeah, it's different, it's fresh, I like it. I certainly don't like it as much as any of the brawler games, and I wish they would either give us Kiryu back or get an entirely new protag, but it is what it is. I don't really play the games for the main story. They're more of a fun distraction for me. I certainly don't take any of them seriously. In fact, I think that's why I disliked the story in 8. It seemed like they were trying to make it make sense and in doing so made it confusing and boring. It's also hard to build up the boss fights with turn based combat. It just loses the epicness. They needed to crank the dial up to 10 on the difficulty for the bosses, throw a ton of different elements in the fight, force you into using buffs and debuffs, force you into using a dedicated healer, etc. Offer something else besides menu combat. Although it was a great step forward, it still lacked something.
>but I'm genuinely curious about what makes them perceived as great Yakuza entries.
it's literally just newbies. look at the first post in this thread. 7 attracted new cancer who have 0 standards
nagoshi is gone yet we still can't beat women??
>waifu dies
>frick her daughter instead
The end.
Kiryu-Haruka SEX!!!
HERE IS THIS BIG FRICKING FANTASY CASTLE ON NELE ISLAND, THIS IS YOUR DESTINATION
>goes underground and skips it entirely
bravo
Has the Dragon Engine spoiled me or is Ishin just bland and stiff to play?
Just get an automatic gun and pop pop everyone until the game is over.
no, it's legitimately bad. They need another 6 months or more to work on it. They were trying to cheat since every new face in the industry knows unreal. It didn't work. lots of things in that remake just didn't work. It's a shame too because the story is pretty damn good. It's just piled under a bunch of shit.
It was a rushed port
The original plays smoothly like 0
Would you rather Kiryu died peacefully during the timeskip between games or have him too weak to participate but active in an advisory capacity?
Retired between games with a small non-playable cameo/brief mention in 9 to confirm that he's alive and reunited with Haruka & Kaoru
Anything less and I'd be disappointed, anything more and I'd be annoyed because it'd be clear they still aren't willing to move on from him
>& Kaoru
Genuinely just leave his whereabouts after 6 ambiguous. Where he went genuinely doesn't matter and was never supposed to be important.
I'd rather have him completely disappearing after 7 and that is just because I like the boss fight way too much to outright get rid of it, aside from that, I'm good, I genuinely would prefer to have his life after 6 left to the imagination
I'm conflicted, I genuinely enjoy watching Kiryu getting chummy with Ichiban's party. I definitely want him to beat cancer though
He looked haggard in the last scene, that should be reason enough to stay out of it from now on,
Let the old man retire, preferably with Kaoru as
said, make him a cameo, stop making him fight. Also goes for Majima, they're close to 60 years old.
The series should never mention him again, then the very last game in the franchise ends with scene in Okinawa with happy old fat japanese man chilling in his garden with cabbages he tends to, reading newspapers about whatever happened in the last game and smirking and saying something like "Kids, these days.". Then old japanese woman approaches him and says something like "Honey, they are here." and they go give warm welcome happy younger japanese family.
Then something innocuous and funny happens that makes the old man go into "heat mode" and it is revealed he is Kiryu, his wife is Sayama and the family is Haruka and her family. Everyone laughs and fade to black.
I was hoping he died in okinawa in 8 but now I just want him written out, there is nothing more to add, he sees Haruka and that's all we need to know. We don't need to see a reaction to know that he's happy to see her.
I’d rather they retire him instead of retreading his plot points and ruining his character
killing him off camera would be the worst thing they could do, so I wouldn't put it past them. It would also render almost everything you do in his part with the remembrance to be pointless. He's supposed to look at his life and want to live. I'd prefer him be back in the next game full protagonist with the OG Tojo crew. but advisory role/retirement would be fine too. Or just give him one last hurrah and let him go out in a blaze of glory in Okinawa with party members from earlier games. Make sure to bring back force ghosts of Shinji and Mine too to help.
>Or just give him one last hurrah
A third one?
6 was marketed that way, Gaiden or 8 was not marketed that way. and I mean, ofc, he dies at the end. 8 gave us all the memberberries, we can skip all that. He would be in Okinawa with Kaoru and the kids and then he'd have to go stomp out some idiot and would die, the end.
but I'm one of those people that would like to keep seeing him as a protagonist, i really don't care how silly it gets. He stole the show for me in 8. He's just too much of a smooth operator and Kuroda owns the role like nobody else. It's always the Kiryu show when he shows up.

Anyone playing with the kino mod?
>have to sign in
Fricking shite site I tell you
regular chitose scenes especially in swimsuits and casino section are already enough to make me stop for fap breaks, I don't need this shit
how boring is the gameplay? it looks very rudimentary from what ive seen.
for context, judgment is my favorite 'yakuza' game ive played. will i like 7?
gameplay wise, 7 is pretty bland. It also forces you into almost every random encounter on the streets. Forcing you to use your phone to call in taxis to deliver you to strategic points.
>Final Date date makes it very clear the Daidoji still have a full grasp on Kiryu and he will never reunite with Haruka or use his name again
>Finale has him reunite with Haruka and him using his name again
How and why?
>How and why?
Tune in to LAD 9 to find out :^)
Or maybe Gaiden 2, who knows.
Give me that Gaiden 2 with a kino ending like Gaiden 1 right now.
Gaiden 2 will be about Akiyama in not-Singapore
They probably realized in the two months gap that it'd be too much work and effort to try and convince people Kiryu had died again after the word had spread compared to just letting him live what life he has left.
I actually enjoyed the brief mention that the Daidoji has actually lost power since their political party lost due to 7's events. It's brief but it made some things explainable.
I am however infinitely mad about how that segment ended though, tug at the heartstrings and YOU HAVE UNLOCKED KIRYU (2016) FOR DONDOKO ISLAND! INVITE THEM NOW!
because the world knows he's still alive. oh look here's a video where a guy who kinda looks like kiryu is coincidentally talking with that ichiban guy who got exposed a few months earlier, well that's not conclusive evidence. oh, here's a video with kiryu discussing some shit with the seiryu clan, gee that's gotta be really hard to fake. oh and now everyone has seen kiryu right outside tojo hq after pummeling the everloving shit out of all the seiryu guys, almost everyone recording the scene. that's indisputable evidence when you've got so many eyewitnesses with video evidence. the daidoji could not possibly cover any of this up, especially since trying to do so would be a bigger liability to them. they probably just said "frick it, we know he won't screw us with the onomichi bullshit" and let him loose with his two months to live
>because the world knows he's still alive
This made it even more excruciating since some of the Date scenes are timegated til after Kiryu's cover is blown and it's even mentioned in those scenes. By all rights Akiyama and Haruka should know for a fact that Kiryu is alive thanks to Tatara Channel but for some reason the narrative demands that he's still in hiding, despite Date mentioning time and again that his cover is already compromised and even mooks on the street recognize the Dragon of Dojima.
man. what fricking happened during development?
i fricking HATE how they clutter the map with a billion mob groups that you have to fight unless you go around and waste time. It was bad enough when the game was action based, but with turn based it becomes a slow slog.
I wish devs realized that putting more "content" just for the sake of it != fun game.
would be nice if the segway would whack the low level ones away
Which is a mechanic that exists in P5R, so it's actually bizarre that it's not in this.
They lowered the detection range massively, and you can run like roughly two people's width to the side of them and they won't notice you for like six seconds. The only time you should be having any trouble dodging anyone is that pawn shop in the middle on the right side of Hawaii and maybe the beach. Even Kamurocho somehow is easier to dodge enemies on.
It's not that bad because unless you brush shoulders with them you can get around without having to fight, plus being able to instantly stomp them if you're 10 levels above makes going through town way more bearable than it was in 7 (where simply walking into the detection cone of an enemy was enough to start a fight)
you can just skip most of them with L1
just beat it today too, the true final millenium tower was a b***h. currently installing kiwami but im not sure im gonna play all the yakuza games before i jump into infinite wealth. are the older yakuza games worth it or should i just watch some youtube video explaining the lore?
Like it or not, you NEED to play them to truly enjoy 8.
1, 3, 6 and Gaiden are just too important to understand Kiryu as a character.
>currently installing kiwami
Have you played 0? Because Kiwami isn't a 1:1 remake, it's a sequel to 0.
i did play 0 yeah allthough it was a couple years ago so im a little hazy on the details
THIS AIN'T A SHOW, SHITHEAD
YOUR PROBLEM??
>Chapter 12
>Lani could be ANYWHERE! All the gangs are out to kill us and the assassins could be ANYONE!
>Oh hey joongi what's up, you look warm, let's go buy some clothes
This shit is sending me up the fricking wall
I've been shooting back irl with shit like "THIS AIN'T A SHIT, SHOWHEAD" or "THIS AIN'T A HEAD, SHITSHOW"
When they say "Whatareyalookinat?" I'm like "A bunch of dead motherfrickers"
Anyway I probably have the autism
KNOCK IT OFF WITH THE STARING
WHAT'S WITH THE SIDE EYE
What time is it?
I think we might have missed our reservation.
Simple as
7 was such an odd duck. Combat was really rough (so much that I don't think I'd go back and play it), but I like stories that make fun of pathetic college liberal movements that get started so you can crush puss broooooo.
8 really improved the hell out of things, except they still do that thing where classes end up having a lot of skills where the skills are just better versions of previous attacks. No, really, you can just have the upgrade replace the previous version of the attack! You don't need to keep the inferior attacks around! The story in 8 kinda fricking sucks though, like the moment Wong Tou and Hanawa get capped is the moment everything starts falling apart and I just start tuning the frick out aaaaaaaand now it's the final chapter what the frick where it's like I blinked and everything happened.
Maybe you want to spend less mana for a shittier version? That's a thing. Sometimes.
>Game goes to shit when Hanawa gets shot
I was so mad it was some random nameless Black person that shot him too and our team gets crumpled by fricking barracudas after the game explicitly has us laying them out by the hundreds and making a joke of their boss.
>That's a thing. Sometimes.
yeah, but enough to warrant keeping them around?
will outrun 2 be playable in kiwami 3?
strip the ferrari license i just dont care
>Outrun
>Without Ferrari
Wouldn't be much game, would it?
Playing through Judge Eyes and something caught my attention. I am trying to navigate more without looking at the map so I can remember more landmarks and stuff. And I can't seem to find any street signs. Pop in google street view Kabukicho and it's the same deal, no road names or building numbers anywhere (or I don't see them). How are you supposed to navigate that maze of small streets? Are you expected to walk with your phone map open 100% of the time in an unknown place?
I think you're supposed to just sort of know. When I went out to Maryland you'd only have street signs every few miles and this was just in a small suburb, not even the boonies. You could literally drive in a straight line and never see a marker at an intersection.
I've played Yakuza for years and have memorized every inch of Kamurocho lol
All the games either point exactly where to go on the ever-present map or, in rare cases, make you wander at random. Both don't require you to know any finer geography. So it doesn't stick with me well. I remember some big buildings and places you visit a lot but that's it. So I've been trying to look at the city itself more, where's what exactly, how do I go from here to there without consulting the map. It's a very intricately crafted city so it's been a pleasant experience so far.
What are the other places in Japan that they can make as a city? I really think Y9 will be for the actual dissolution now of the Yakuza considering they did not address it here yet. And also most likely the full dissolution of the Daidoji.
They haven't even shown the two people that they have still hidden. Shishido and Nishitani III.
>gaiden ends with the idea that Hanawa may have appeared in Kiryu's past
>he gets shot once and dies. I know he said he doesn't like the yakuza but are you guys sure he isn't Morigana by how quickly he vanished from the story?
Same voice actor aside, I doubt he's Morinaga. Kiryu would surely recognise him in some way. My headcanon is that he was one of Kiryu's taxi passengers and he did him some memorable kindness.
its been confirmed that its him by Yokoyama

Huh. Fair enough then. Odd how it was never elaborated upon once in 8.
Yamai is the coolest addition to the franchise.
You can talk to him at one point and he expresses that his interest in Kiryu was over how Kiryu always faced things head on while Yamai used to run from his problems.
Tomizawa's a total fricking chigyu and, while he did grow on me, if anyone returns for 9, I hope it's Yamai
To be honest I hope Chitose and Tomi do not return in 9. They're OK but they already add very little to the story aside from betrayal stuff
I love her voice and she's hot, no other RGG girl got me acting up this badly
I hope she and the geodancer class return. Somehow only her and Chitose really activate the almonds swaying around in the menu, but not Seonhee. Must be her stoic expression
Geodancer Saeko swaying in her Hawaii shorts is a sight to behold
Leave Ebina to me!

Hard to give a frick.
Just got to the opening of Chapter 4 in Infinite Wealth
lmao radioactive waste
I've began to realize I don't care about the stories in these games anymore except a few outliers
8 was actually the game that made me realize I do care about the stories more than I though, since this one just bored me to death.

The two converge at some point with a yakuza thug burning down the wrestling stadium for the insurance money.
I very much want this. Besides, with how RGG Studio is you know they'd love the opportunity to shove in a bunch more random wrestler cameos.
I would also accept Taichi being a party member in a future Ichiban game. He was always my favorite of the orphanage kids.
Akiyama, Tanimura and Shinada adventures
in turn based combat which I want
I really read into the Akiyama part when he shows up and says he was out of the country on adventures and wouldn't say where. I was thinking, yeah they are definitely making an Akiyama Gaiden. Would love to see Tanimura or Shinada pal around with him.
they'd have to have Akiyama's VA locked for years for a gaiden focusing on him to be possible.

When does the job changes unlock in Infinite Wealth?
Chapter 4 and just unlocked the weapon upgrades
halfway through the game. no joke.
so as usual, I probably won't engage in any of the side content until the game is nearly over. great
you really shouldn't, no. at least in the brawlers, engaging with all the side content meant you got to unlock new moves which made the rest of the game better to play. here, it just overlevels you for fricking everything! and then there's the insanely high enemy spawn rate, hope you like holding the run away button or spamming smoke bombs so you aren't constantly 8+ levels above everything.
This game really feels like it just wants you to use taxis or avoid any sort of battles inbetween story points, because just doing the random battles or side stories inbetween stuff makes all the plot battles a joke.
If you are only ever fighting enemies while going from cutscene to cutscene, diverging only for the occasional substory (which i think is how most people play), your party will always be a level or two above/maybe one below most enemies.
It’s at least an improvement over 7 where if you did that you will be hit by the out of nowhere level gate.
They did overcorrect though, level 40-50 something is the equivalent of a 60-70 in 7 and like people here have said it’s really easy to get there if you do side content. Giving each party an infinite dungeon you can access really early on that’s useful for leveling all the way up to the 50s doesn’t help autismos like me who like clearing shit before moving on.
Don't wait too long, much of the side content rewards become obsolete later on due to exponential scaling. Try to complete them asap if you see 3-star and 4-star rewards.
Chapter 5 in the start. Once you go to the orphanage you'll be told to go to the beach and then get wrapped up in what unlocks the job content. You won't have all general jobs until chapter 8.
ive played yakuza 7 and 0, i wanna play 8 but i havent played 1-6, should i spend half my life beating 1-6 before 8 or could i just play Gaiden and Infinite Wealth?
>should i spend half my life beating 1-6 before 8
Yes, 90% of Kiryu's side content is "hey, remember this?"
>could i just play Gaiden and Infinite Wealth?
Gaiden really doesn't contributes that much to IW, mainly because it was made after IW.
Without playing the previous games Kiryu's story in 8 won't have any weight to (You)
Why does Ichiban keep getting raped? Why do his rapists always blame him for getting raped? why did alo-happy watch? i thought he was like a brother to ichiban
haha funny
has to be the same writer that wrote all the haha Kiryu got raped substories in 0
>get raped by Julie
>permanent Agility +5
how does this work
she had a drill, anon. more holes = less wind resistance = faster ichiban.
So Ichiban gets both Sujimon and Dondoko Island while Kiryu gets nothing?
kiryu gets his life links which is much more entertaining than either minigame.
kiryu gets to reminiscence about cabaret club and pocket circuit
>don't have to actually do cabaret and pocket circuit again
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
cabaret is good but pocket circuit sucks shit
i was so mad when i saw pocket circuit again in gaiden. i only found it at the last chapter and had to grind that shit for akame points because i wanted all the agent gadget upgrades after spending the whole game using nothing but yakuza style after unlocking it.
Cabaret was the best part of 0 and K2
i am not playing it a third time.
You should, their third attempt was their best one.
>Mr Libido
>not naked
should have just ripped it out of 0 and k2 and reskinned it instead of whatever this shit is
FotNS's is better because it forces you to reposition the girls, use skills to drain the money out of the guys quicker, you get mooks that come to visit that cause trouble and causes massive stress to your girls so you need to upkeep that, and you need to keep in mind what each girl satisfies as well since each guy has his own "weakness".
>PC never
Emulation in 10 years brother
how is lost paradise anyway, i barely even read fotns and only know bits and pieces of the story. does it run ok on ps5?
It's the last game on the 5/0/k1/OG ishin engine so it was already 1080p 60fps on a base ps4.
oh neat. is the story self-contained or does it pick up from where the manga/anime left off?
Lost paradise has its own story.
>still haven't played LP yet
>had no idea it was in the game
oh hell yes
I was playing the cabaret minigame in 2 when I got the call my mom died
Haha, based. Maybe you should have asked her to extend the session lol.
not bad
ICHI YOU DUMBASS
frick man iktfb. I was in the middle of setting up my new 32:9 monitor when I got the call that my mom died, can't use it without feeling sad now
For me it was playing Persona 4 on the PS2 when I got the call my grams died
>hating pocket circuit
dumb
also dumb, the coliseum is a better grinding spot and leads to amon upon
They opted to flesh out gaiden from short epilogue to 15-20 hours game with a bunch of unique minigames to compensate.
When Kiryu gets captured by the Daidoji in Gaiden there's a bit of a botched translation where he says something like "how could I let this happen" but what he's really saying is "what (the frick) am I doing (with my life)" which is more poignant given his history. This quiet little moment where Kiryu cracks a bit and even he gets sick of his moronic honour tism ruining his life
why do these yakuza fanartists never draw Seonhee
She's a korean and japs hate koreans and vice versa
they do but it's always futa
Just play with the nude mod
lani is dead
>they’re working with SOA to remove problematic content
>keep in the unfunny substories where ichiban gets raped
What the?!
Men love getting raped
it's almost like...you shouldn't believe everything you read online!
You guys were right, 4 is so much better than 3.
literally the game
3 stinks to high heavens outside of the main story
honestly i wish the orphanage bit went on longer. i really liked seeing kiryu happy, doing what he really wanted to do. trying to live up to the legend he projected onto fuma - I MEAN, KAZAMA
i don't like seeing Kiryu happy. he should suffer more and be miserable all the time, that's more fun
I don't get it, why are cough drop tins the super-rare material used in making the legendary weapons?
something for the blacksmith to eat while working
>got really hard imagining julie as a goatwoman
i think i have a problem
i hate that gay little pose npcs do in the ps3 games where they bend over and touch their toes, makes me want to beat the shit out of them
Will it ever be topped?
Lost already topped it ten times over
captain hamura.. kuroiwa
Why does Adachi make this face in his level up screen?
Has anyone ever actually learned how to play Mahjong from these games?
I can't remember if I learnt mahjong from Y2/Y3 specifically but it was definitely around the Time when I understood how to play.i was finding it less and less confusing and more and more frustrating due to how rigged it is (compared to online games at the time)
Me. I did.
Then I had to start playing Mahjong Soul because I'm a fricking American and so there's no chance I'll find three other gays to play with
yeah, i drilled into my head "four triplets and a pair" and my goal was always to achieve that. after that it was trial and error like:
>learning not to pon or chi automatically just because the game gives you the option
>learning what hands actually give a lot of points
>learning i needed a yaku and it wasn't as simple as just getting four triplets and a pair.
>learning about meme hands when four triplets and a pair wasn't viable
>learning that the option to call riichi doesn't show up unless you press square/X
Eventually it clicked just enough for me to start winning games. I'm still not great at it, but i no longer struggle completing mahjong and it's actually the one minigame i go back to. I even went back to yakuza 4 and did the mahjong achievement, almost as if to prove i'd gotten good enough.
this is true however. the opponents fricking cheat , worse when you just started the match and one guy already called riichi two tiles in and steals your last tile, and of course it's one of the hands that give a frickton of points because frick you.
>Discard a wind tile that's not the seat wind or even that player's wind as my second discard
>"Fufufufu RON! THIRTEEN ORPHANS"
mfw
Look at discards
skill issue
Explain this webm to me like I'm moronic, because I may as well be.
>player discards the first tile of the game
>tile gets stolen by another player
>said player happened to start the game with only a single tile missing for thirteen orphans, one of the hands that gives you the most points and is an auto win for all intents and purposes.
Would have kms had it happened to me honestly, I’d stop playing after that.
>very start of the game
>1st discard
>is the one tile other player needs to win
>hand is "13 orphans"
>point value is high enough to take the discarder's score into the negatives, and instantly end the entire game
odds of this occurring are like 1 in a million or some shit
On the very first discard of the very first round of the game, the nyagger discards a 1-pin (a very safe and typical play) and instantly loses to opponents Yakuman. The odds of her being dealt a starting hand this good is 1 in millions.
Yes. Did back in 0 and never regretted it. Actually a fun game.
I learned enough against my will to know the best tiles to discard to increase my chances of getting a winning hand, and I know enough to realize I don't want to actually get into it if I want to retain my sanity because my friends actually into jong will ruin me. I despise the jong table chatter the most when it comes to RGG jong specifically, especially that one shrill guy who screeches KIIIIII!!!! when things go wrong, so turning off the audio while I listen to something else keeps me sane while I grind out those ron and tsumo requirements.
However, I did learn how to play koi koi, and I find it kinda fun since it's a lot less strenuous on my brain without being a relatively dull gamble like oicho-kabu, cee-lo, and especially cho-han.
yes actually. had so much fun i bought my own physical mahjong set
When Judgement got a dub I began to worry about Yakuza, 7 is where it went bad and 8 is where the franchise died. I hate Americans so much, it's unreal.
seethe weeb
Remember there are people on this planet who watch OP in dub. THEY LIKE LISTENING TO DUB LUFFY. Let that sink in
>Let that sink in
No, it keeps trying to mate with the bathroom sink.
poker...why does poker SUCK so hard in this series? i never knew you could make such a plodding-pace poker game before.
IMMA PUT THE HURT ON YOUUUU
Everything about Hawaii seemed like a surreal fever dream, but I guess since it's like the Vegas equivalent for Japanese, it make sense
It was really weird when it became Ichiban Kasuga and the Temple of Doom.
They could've done with a really cool, big strong guy for Ichiban to go up against like the turban guy in that movie too. Or like how Tendo was in 7. Fighting grunts and a 90+ year old white guy is a bit lame.
...What happened to Tendo, anyway?
Same thing that happens to every villain from the previous game that doesn't die on screen.
Jail, probably. He did kill a couple people so he's out for ??? amount of time.
We'd probably see Arai from 4 out before Tendo, and they probably just won't ever show us any of them. I did like the idea that the guys from 0 who get jailed (Kuze, Shibusawa) probably got offed in jail under orders of Kazama, because he definitely wouldn't hesitate to do that kind of thing.
Vegas should be the next map if they go back to America, imagine all the wacky themed gangs and shit you could do with all the casinos.
Ichiban is such a shit protagonist
*kiryu
Kiryu is cooler than Ichiban
I know what you mean, but he could had been a lot worse. They definitely made the right call with him though, because the games made such a tone shift, it wouldn't fit Kiryu at all.
I can see how some Japanese people would take exception to Ichi given how conspicuously interracial he looks, too.
I still think he's pretty fun as a protag. JRPG protags are supposed to be blank slates so you can project onto them anyway.
I've been 'slightly' disappointed with Infinite Wealth but I'm still enjoying myself. I enjoy the improvements made to the combat, Sujimon battles, and rolling around in that dumb scooter.
Is it true that 8 will be the last Dragon Engine title?
I hope so.
yeah Unreal Engine is so much better
This but unironically, the DE only looks good at night time, other times it looks like dogshit.
Dragon engine is pretty dope. Don't fix it if it ain't broken, and the teams are obviously hyperproductive with it now. Why sabotage that at this point, after a bajillion billion games on it? Why deprive the teams from their expertise with the current engine just to use fricking Unreal?
I'm dreading the time they ditch the Dragon Engine if it means they move over to Unreal fully. Ishin was a disaster from a technical perspective but all the recent DE releases have been solid. I'm still shocked that a small Jap dev using their own homebrew engine manages to release PC ports with far fewer technical issues than even most games made exclusively for PC these days.
My main concern is the growing pains. DE started out rough with 6 and everybody called it a disaster. By LJ it has been perfected and to drop it now would be starting from square one.
I don't give a shit what anyone thinks I like 6, the series really needed to move on from everything having loading screens.
I too enjoyed 6, but it was very stiff and floaty compared to where we are now. Plus a lot of the dev time must have gone to creating new assets, which would have left out a lot of tuning time for a series that famously reuses assets.
I was more impressed by how every single line in 6 was voiced. They never tried doing that again which was a shame.
For me it's the Cheers minigame and Kiryu's insane response choices
Wait a minute I never played this mini game before. Now that I think about it I rushed through 6 and missed the diving one too.
the bar was close to the hirose family HQ, i missed it a few times because it's a corner you would normally never really cross unless you deliberately check it out. The minigame itself wasn't too interesting but it gave you some of the better baseball players as well as the best speargun for the fishing minigames. it was fun to see kiryu hanging out with the lads at least.
>some of the better baseball players
I immediately dropped that after the intro since I'm a Eurotard and have no idea how baseball works. Waste of a central mini game if you ask me
You just hit the ball on rare occasions and the management side of it is putting people in the position it says they are good at. You can also follow a guide once you get all the players and you'll practically never lose. I'm probably in a small minority, but I would like a full baseball game with Shinada from RGG.
I followed a guide and had no problem at all.
It was a cool minigame. 6 was incredibly wholesome with the baseball and the bar stories.
>I have no idea how baseball works
you hit the ball and run, how is it any more difficult to understand than cricket or rugby
I missed all the bar chat stuff in 6 because I never bothered with the DE baseball mingame because I thought I was just terrible at it. I didn't realise until much later it's bugged if you're playing in ultrawide.
Weirdly enough they fixed it in the PC version of Judgment, but LJ and IW both had the bug again.
My biggest gripe is that only the Judgment games have a dialogue history option. I'm a slow reader and I missed out on so much dialogue in 8.
they were hyping it up as the last game for Kiryu. haha seems like forever ago from where we are now. 6 is a fantastic game but the gameplay is rough. Getting one of those move extender mods makes a huge difference though. I highly recommend using one for a 2nd playthrough.
6 is unironically has the best story based on everything about Kiryu. I appreciated the initial lower stakes and the more personal/vulnerable side with the Hirose family without the burden of multiple playable characters hogging screen time. Of course the national conspiracy shit and Tojo infighting ruins the fun.
I agree, I think I like 3 a little better, but 6 did the story right. I actually liked the secret of onomichi. The very ending though left me a bit confused because Kiryu has all these regrets about running away in his letter to Daigo, but then once again runs away with Daidoji. That was the only part I did not appreciate.
I unironically blubbed like a baby at pic related being interlaced with Haruto's first steps. I would have been content never seeing Kiryu again after that.
I think that was the point but then like Shadow they Threw It All Away in the next game
It's an emotional moment, but everything of Kiryu's character both as a whole through the whole series and in the game directly preceding it says he would fricking kill himself if that's the last we saw of him, it's a god awful terrible ending for him. He may as well be doing a slow walk onto train tracks.
He said himself that he owed it to Kazama, Nishiki and Yumi to keep on living for them. To suddenly drop that to throw a gut punch for the sake of it would be just as awful.
I'm not saying it'd be cool for Kiryu to kill himself, I'm saying 6's ending being an emotional single moment doesn't make up for it setting up the worst future Kiryu could possibly have given the past game had him want to die even while being able to live a normal life with coworkers that cared for him due to separating from Haruka.
And honestly, Haruka means more to him than Kazama, Nishiki, or Yumi do by now.
It’s a bitter sweet ending, bwo
It's not bittersweet at all though. It's just suicidal. Kiryu is doing something stupid and self destructive for no real reason, again, completely disregarding the lesson he's been taught three fricking games in a row. The same mistake Haruka does in that game that he admonishes her for before clamming up because he realizes he was doing the same.
Then he just does it again. It's awful.
It is.
Kiryu fakes his death so people will leave his family alone. They’re a safe but he can’t see them again.
It’s the definition of bittersweet
It doesn't make them any safer at all. They literally are used as collateral for making Kiryu do things, or else they will be attacked by the Daidoji.
If any group that cares more about honoring their revenge than watching Kiryu suffer wants to, they know where Haruka is and her connection to Kiryu. Even a lone psycho can make good on getting revenge against the people Kiryu loved and left behind. They're living with Yuta and Haruto, living proof of defying a Chinese triad that wants to put the kid to death and would kill Yuta for betraying them given the chance.
It's a surface level "be sad for a moment, but don't think even the slightest bit about what this says about even the themes of this game much less the future of these characters"
It’s fine as an ending. The issue is that in typical RGG fashion they don’t actually retire him.
Like it’s very clearly supposed to be the last time we’d see these characters, but like morons they decided to undo it, so it’s just fricking stupid.
It's fine as an ending if you just neglect what any of it would mean for any of the characters involved and ignore that it doesn't do anything positive for them while repeating every mistake Kiryu's done 8 times over and is taught every time to not do again, including this game.
It was always a shitty ending if you take one step back from the imagery and sad music.
Sounds like you’re just upset about yo headcanon
It’s fine.
It works because Kiryu’s owning up and realising he can’t have his cake and eat it too.
So much of this series is him actively avoiding taking responsibility for Tojo shit and all that in favour of spending time with his family, only for things to get way worse for everyone involved.
That's bullshit. He's literally just running away from the problem, again. And most of the problems that were recently caused were of his own making or choice.
Kiryu directly involves himself into 4, and the opportunity to do that is only through 2 people washing up in front of his house. At most it escalates to one of the villains wanting to threaten the orphanage after Kiryu gets deep into things and then immediately not being able to (I don't think Kiryu's even told this was an idea).
5 happens because he's convinced to run away, and it still goes wrong. As a matter of fact, it goes worse because Kiryu has once again abandoned Daigo and Haruka (when he was supporting both at the end of 4).
6 goes poorly because Kiryu decides to go to jail when he really doesn't have to, even Date calls him out on it. But besides that, the rest of the problems are almost directly due to Haruka herself taking after Kiryu's bad behavior and running away herself.
He’s not running away from his problems, he’s directly acknowledging it. Him taking the hush money would not have kept them safe.
He is quite literally running away from just acknowledging his past and supporting his present. Faking his death doesn't protect the family, especially when doing so under the surveillance of a corrupt shadow government organization.
No?
Hes literally acknowledging how him being around guarantees that people around him will suffer. He straight up realised this in 5.
I think you're the one taking the wrong lessons from these, because the moral of 5 was that Kiryu shouldn't distance himself from his loved ones because neither him or them want that, and doing it didn't protect them either. It left them more vulnerable.
Abandoning them to go to jail at the start of 6 also didn't help protect them. And Haruka abandoning the group to protect them from twitter mobs exposed her to something that got her nearly killed. And Kiryu realizes he had never been there for Daigo when all this time he should've been (and was on his way to doing so at the end of 4, but then 5 just writes all that off).
Kiryu is a guy who thinks he deserves nothing and should be dead, too afraid to embrace life for fear of hurting others even though they want him in it and the danger's present whether or not he's there in most cases. Meekly accepting the wrong message is a terrible ending to him.
I’m not taking the wrong reasons here, I’m just stating it like it is
Him running away constantly to focus on his own wants is the reason for lots of suffering. Him disappearing and faking his death isn’t something he wants, but would ensure that nobody will attempt any moronic revenge plots since there’s no reason to when the guy is dead.
He didn't run away to focus on his own wants with 5 or 6, and the games go out of their way to confirm that he also wanted to be involved with Daigo and the Yakuza because it's part of him and what he left behind.
The ending of 4, his reaction to news of Daigo and Majima in 5, and letter to Daigo in 6 are blatant about this. He is always in a halfassed state of denial and penance outside of the period of time between 2 and 3.
That's just lacking in object permanence. The Tojo is a mess, has been for years. There's no way you would honestly expect post-6 it's in a better state than ever. And expecting a deal with a corrupt shadow organization to go well when he had to physically threaten them in the process of making the deal is insane.
And again, the problems he's been dealing with at the time he made that deal are almost entirely unrelated to him or the orphanage. The only time they directly had a problem was 3, almost had a problem with 4 because Kiryu felt like having some fun shoving himself into the plot but Kiryu doesn't even learn it was that close, and 5/6 happen regardless of Kiryu's involvement. Hell, Haruka in 5 causes the scrutiny on the orphanage.
>There's no way you would honestly expect post-6 it's in a better state than ever. And expecting a deal with a corrupt shadow organization to go well when he had to physically threaten them in the process of making the deal is insane.
Yakuza is not expecting realism in those aspects. The note the game leaves it on is that Daigo is actually going to succeed and fix things and that the Daidoji leaves them alone. It sacrifices the reality of those situations for a happy ending, which works and is only ruined by the fact that they wanted to keep Kiryu around, requiring them to take away from the bittersweet but happy ending in service of justifying why the guy has to still be part of the series.
That's just an insane way to look at it. Nothing about it set up things to be happier for Kiryu's sacrifice, or things to work in spite of it. Especially not the Yakuza games where you go from the ending of 4 (happy) to it all going to absolute shit by the start of 5, the ending of 5 (hopeful) gone to shit within 20 minutes of 6.
Saejima beats it into Kiryu's skull at the end of 5 that being apart from Haruka for a year without the hope of meeting again is worse than 10 years of prison ever was.
If you're that hopeful, nothing intrinsically has to target Kiryu or the orphanage after 6 in the first place. And if they did, everyone involved would be happier being together than Kiryu wanting to kill himself as they live without him.
i don't remember kiryu ever saying that in 6. the only thing he says is that he'd give his life if it meant they'd get to live their lives away from these problems(referencing that he's willing to let Kazuma Kiryu "die" in order to spare them from the problems that come from him) that's not really the same as killing himself.
Suicide affects more than the person who did it.
You may as well say Kiryu do pic related at the end of 3 and claim it's "taking responsibility" for how it affects the people that love him and how he'd feel out of their life anyway.
Nobody’s trying to say anything like that, what’s wrong with you?
You're the one saying that 6's ending is a great bittersweet ending for everyone to think Kiryu died and Kiryu be unable to be with any of his loved ones. Like the only difference from suicide is Kiryu's body is alive, but put in a situation worse than one we've seen makes him fully depressed in 5. Like you don't even have to stretch out to Gaiden and 8 to see it's not a good situation for anyone.
It’s a bittersweet ending because they’re ultimately safe at the cost of not being able to see each other.
I’m not trying to argue that it’s the happiest ending in the world or anything
I’m losing interest in this conversation
Also please don’t reply with more walls of text, I’m probably not going to be awake to read then
>Him taking the hush money would not have kept them safe.
I fail to see how honestly, when he decided to join them they kept holding the kids over his head every time he stepped out of line. Whereas with the hush money all he had to do was promise not to mention the Yamato II.
You appear to be assuming that he, and by extension the orphanage, would not have remained under heavy surveillance for the rest of his life even if he did pinky promise he'd never ever say anything after taking the money.
Okay and? We know for a fact Kiryu would never blab about it because that's who he is so thus they'd just sit there wasting some temp on watching a happy family man for the rest of his life.
they'd still hold it over him and keep an eye on him and his family, except now his whole family would more obviously be part of it. The problem with Gaiden is that the way 6 frames these things doesn't even imply Gaiden would happen. When it was only 6, you're led to believe "Kiryu fakes his death and goes off to live somewhere else and the Daidoji leave him and his family alone, Kiryu can never go back to his old life, but he is finally free from everything and can live for himself. He can accept this because he knows everyone he cares about will be fine as Daigo follows his advice and resolves the Tojo and Omi comflict and Haruka and the kids are now a real family and Yuta rose to the occasion." but once they decided to keep Kiryu around, the situation turns into "Actually Kiryu holding leverage on the Daidoji was actually bullshit and Kiryu is now their slave and no one in his life is safe and frick you he's miserable now and the Daidoji will just threaten to kill his kids if he does anything they don't like"
If kiryu is dead they have no reason to go after the kids, that's the thought process behind it. A person with an axe to grind with kiryu has nothing to gain from hurting the kids if he's dead, who are they taking revenge on at that point. Also all the people who would want to hurt kiryu are either dead or in jail at this point.
Plus the Daidoji are also protecting/supporting the orphanage so it's not completely one sided, they know if they let something happen to the kids kiryu will destroy them. they've been shown to be pragmatic in regard to kiryu since he's a good agent and gets shit done, so they put up with a lot of his rule bending (and meet his fists when they defy him).
The thought process is in the criminal underworld, you don't let others disrespect you, and the crueler ones disproportionately target associates of the people who act out against them as a message/punishment.
Like we've seen the Jingweon Mafia organize secret agents that take cyanide capsules to avoid capture to get back at the Tojo for the massacre Kazama did, and they were ready to full on bomb cities killing tons of innocents who had nothing to do with it.
If Kiryu's dead and someone had an axe to grind with Kiryu, then what's stopping them from just destroying what Kiryu loved? Nothing, they got their revenge and pissed on his grave.
Also there's not much of a real reason for the Daidoji to be afraid of Kiryu attacking them, he doesn't know how to figure out their organizational structure and it's public knowledge Kiryu has somehow never killed anyone (as said by Akiyama in 6). They exploit this in Gaiden because of course they would, they are far more willing to kill anyone in that orphanage than Kiryu is willing or able to kill them. They have leverage to have a useful pawn.
RGG really can't help themselves with the national conspiracies. even LJ that was at its core "yagami saves the kids featuring the bully hunter" still involved a government conspiracy.
0, 2 5 are the only one's that avoid this i think.
those emotional moments is what the studio does best. In kiryu's memoir of the dragon in IW I teared up seeing haruka and haruto, despite giving zero payoff it felt so nice just seeing them all grown up, tugged my hearstrings as if I was actually seeing a real life family member.
While I'm sure these were introduced because of the engine change, 6's issues were mostly just weird gameplay decisions like the slow combo speed and the block hit recovery animations rather than the engine specifically.
maybe UE will just be for Kiwami like releases from now on. K2 was neat and the combat felt better than 6, but then again it was more likely an experiment that didn't pan out. We'll see when they inevitably remake Y3 and reuse Hawaii assets
I hope they do a DE2 or something, sure, jumping to UE2 would be the ideal choice money wise but...
It's good, but the combat dungeons are atrocious
>all this daidoji secret shit for years
>muh man with no name
homie just put Kiryu and Haruka on a flight to bumfrick nowhere in the US, boom problem solved no one is gonna give a frick
Like 80% of Japanese people don't have a passport. The concept of leaving their country is literally alien to them.
so like...why does nobody ever just shoot kiryu in the head
Kiryu has secret telekinetic powers and every bullet aiming at his head just hovers next to it
Those kind of Yakuza are the first to die.
I wish it was fresh tasty food time
Even if they did, he would tank it.
Daigo is the only good marksman in the series
Not a hair on his head moved from being hit with a glass bottle. Why bother?
Because that doesn't work.
>tfw I had fun with Y7 but it felt like a slog towards the end
>tfw the same happened with LJ not even halfway through
God I hope my dumb brain isn't trying to move away from the series somehow, I love this shit
Games story is a mess but I’m glad they made ichiban a better fighter
Like, I thought he was going to job in the first yamai fight, but nah, he pretty much mogs them all. Along with the MMA fighter and learning his moves, I’m guessing they’re trying to show he’s getting stronger and isn’t really a weakling.
I just wish he fought in a more interesting way. His default class is Hero, but he never uses a bat in cutscenes, instead all his unarmed moves are stuck on Freelancer, a class that honestly kinda sucks.
He'll do a dark souls medium roll out of the way of an attack, then scuttle on his ass backwards from the enemy, before getting up and simply punching the enemy doing twenty flips and twists at him.
Still looks like either of Yagami or Kaito would kick his ass too.
Dunno if anyone has found this yet, might be cause I'm on the finale.
I found out that enemies near the docks actually consistently drop Cough Drop Tins for crafting
Why does Cheetos have a dead animal on her head?
I unironically wish they'd turn this series into something more like Shenmue
>safely defects from Jingweon and perfectly blends into Japanese Yakuza despite being Korean
>perfectly tricks everyone into believing that he's real Nishitani's relative
>manages to become a patriarch at a young age
>manages to take a full control of the Castle
>has a harem full of women and feminine men
>has a banger theme
>puts up a decent fight agaisnt Kiryu
>just disappears and doesn't even appear in Y8
They kinda wasted Nishitani III. He was an interesting character
He’ll be back since the Daidoji picked him up
If they weren't planning to bring him back they wouldn't have pointed out at the end how he went basically unresolved. Ten years ago I would have said otherwise but RGG isn't really averse to bringing characters back anymore. Shishido's gonna come back too as a broken man.
They’ve never been averse to bringing characters back
i wish he would be back, kim jae-uck really killed it as nishitani iii, and it's his first time doing a video game/voice actor role
Not trying to hijack the thread but got a question for you guys, so far i've played Y1,2,0,K1 in that order, but every time i see footage from the newer games they seem nothing like the stuff im playing, everything is wacky and crazy instead of having the "crime in the streets of 00s Japan (with some anime) vibe", does the story and the games in general get progressively worse or what?
7 onwards is when they crank the goofy shit up to eleven
So the games stay consistent up to 6 then? I just really enjoy the feel of 1 and 2 that's why i'm asking
Basically
7’s story is still grounded
8’s gets really fricking silly and is mostly boring
Swapping to an RPG style format and making the new protag a genuine Schizo with a crazy imagination gives them a lot freedom to do goofy shit
He’s not a schizo
The old games were also goofy shit. Yakuza 1 and 2 have myriad goofy shit.
But yes, they needed a vehicle to crank it up to 11, and making Ichiban schizo is the perfect solution to that.
>Yakuza 1 and 2 have myriad goofy shit.
Only in the substories.
What did the Omi Alliance mean by this?
Osaka gays love castles
absolutely fricking glorious
>Gaiden has a feature that lets you put lipstick, eyeliner, earrings, and nail polish on Kiryu
>every other NPC feels the need to mention how pretty Kiryu is
>long cinematic scene where Kiryu is bent over a table by three dudes who suggestively talk about having their way with him
>Game constantly tries to say Detective is supposed to be the go too Tank class for Adachi
>Linebacker outclasses it in every single way
Linebacker's technically DLC, so of course it does.
Though personally, my favorite choice for Adachi is to get Linebacker to 24 for the cheerleading kiwami move, then Breaker. He can still enrage and tank, but Breaker's weapon lets you restore MP anytime you're buffed, and the cheerleading kiwami move buffs the entire team's defense while attacking, practically infinite MP while attacking and getting good buffs off.
Plus it has high speed to help his awful base speed.
>Linebacker's technically DLC, so of course it does.
I mean the DLC classes in 7 are shit.
It's a shame that Breaker's only use is the weapon though. He really is only good for spamming the QB Kiwami like that.
Yakuza 8 Class Guide:
Males: Samurai
Females: Kunoichi
Samurai is a dogshit class to stay in, though, because it's got shit for agility. Get the For Glory buff, get Burning Arrow, then swap to any faster class for fricks sake. Since the final weapons for Aquanaut and Martial Artist are the only ones that give a native attack buff, those are the best classes to sit in for males.
I decided to play Ishin before going into LaD IW and what the frick is this shit?
I dunno. Of all those people I legit only knew who nyanners was, I just ignored that whole awful minigame.
So the original game had this dungeon that was super hard, right
But they gave you the ability to summon 'troopers' that were part of your army to launch special attacks and buffs for you
the remake lets you use troopers outside of the dungeon
the dlc / trooper pack shit lets you get meme reference troopers like the ones you see there
Otherwise its gacha shit you don't really need to engage with.
Some people b***hed about it being added to the main game as if these games were ever hard at all and as though you couldn't just ignore it altogether and NOT use the trooper cards in the main game if you were some autistic purist.
Haven't really played the Yakuza series (got like 75% through Yakuza 0 and stopped for reasons), but the turn based ones look kinda fun. Will it be completely wasted on me if I haven't played through the series?
7 is a soft reboot but 8 follows up a lot on 0-6.
7 is the first turn based one with the new protag, right?
Yes
Alright thanks anon, I've always wanted to get into the Yakuza games so a soft reboot sounds like it'd be a nice starting point.
0 and the Kiwami series are also sort of meant as soft reboots too and how a lot of newbies got into the series.
7's a perfectly fine starting point.
People will whinge that 8 really requires you played the previous games but, honestly, it gives enough context for Kiryu's memberberries that you'll be able to comprehend even if they don't affect you the same way. Might actually make you interested in going back and playing the older games.
No. Start with 7.
7 you can get away with as an entry point but 8 negates all that so you better start from the beginning.
7 can be absolutely played on its own, it's a reboot. Enjoy anon.
If you don't like the brawler games, just watch a recap of the series on youtube so you can go into a little better prepared. if you get to Gaiden or 8, then you should either go back and play the games or watch an extended recap on youtube.
Anyone know the name of the song that plays at the end of some of Kiryu's life links? It's the slow melancholy acoustic guitar song and I cannot for the life of me find it on the soundtrack.
it's not on the soundtrack unfortunately. Wait till someone splices together a version and uploads it.
This one? It's from past games which is why it's probably not on 8's soundtrack.
That's exactly it! Thank you kind anon
why does my equipment keep turning into food
Broken savegame. Never happened to me.
Have they removed mahjong and shogi from this franchise yet?
Does this game actually encourage you to try out jobs? The other one pretty much punished you for switching jobs.
Are the side things and mini games better? That company management side game thing was miserable.
mahjong is the best part
No
Yes
Yes
No.
I felt like 7 is pretty good about switching jobs though.
Why does Kiryu not simply use the Yamato Mk.II to wipe out everyone with chinese and korean blood?
because koreans and chinese in the rgg series are based
Is Dead Souls on PC a pipe dream?
Series producer shot down any Dead Souls remaster so emulation only.
I'm still kinda surprised and a little disappointed that party members still have no bearing during substories. It seems like a golden opportunity they still haven't taken advantage of yet.
>Esper Ito wants you to win first place on the hard table in Mahjong to complete his challenge
I was sweating bullets at the last few rounds since I barely had a narrow lead and people kept calling Riichi early on, but thankfully I was able to secure the win so now I can just play Mahjong casually.
I also own that shirt
>Decided to pirate this today
>Played mahjong for 3 hours straight so I could buy a baseball bat that doubled my attack
This is amazing
>Pirating Yakuza 8 of all games
>Pirate knows how to play mahjong
Now it makes sense, honest, hard-working people simply can't understand discarding new things.
You can't pirate Yakuza 8 numbnuts hes talking about 7
Bring back Mine
Kinda funny how Mine's self sacrifice ended up being for nothing lol
Does M Hold'em ever get better antes? wtf is this stupid shit? it's 5/10. I spent one hour just now and I got a grand total of 1000 chips total towards completion. I walked away with like 150 chips out of that. One of the assassin weapons is like 37k.
ah i just realized that you get 10x larger antes when you play with your friends. I didn't realize that it went toward the completion total. pffffffft wtf I spent hours on this
this game had so much soul. between this and Atlus games i dont think ive cared so much about a turn based game in recent years
Agreed. Wasn't expecting a fricking Yakuza game of all things to become one of the best JRPGs of all time.
>Cheetos in a swimsuit
>Giant Squid literally has a vore phase
Man, I didn't see anything like that when I fought it, it died too quick.
What the frick? Is this what happens if you don't kill the tentacles or something?
Yeah. It's super easy to skip on because the tentacles have so little HP when you are basically firing mini nukes off by the time you get to the endgame
holy shit.... I know there was a npc that said shit about giant squid at the beach, but I thought he was just BS.
Didn't know there was an actual giant squid boss.
I figured there was going to be a giant squid boss from the rip because the best weapons in the game uses both shark fins and Squid tentacles. that and the giant squid fight is a staple of DQ.
Kiryu faking his death at least makes more sense for getting the clans/mafia/traids off his family's ass than previous attempts at "if I leave the clan on paper, and/or go to jail everyone else in the world will have to give me a clean slate :)" even if it's still an unhappy ending and has other flaws.
Kiryu wasn't being hounded for that for ages though. It's like killing yourself to solve the 5th problem on your priority list. And it doesn't erase that he had a public connection to these people, so if they were diehard enough to dig up old shit for decades old grudges, they'd still just as easily kill his family for good measure.
>so if they were diehard enough to dig up old shit for decades old grudges, they'd still just as easily kill his family for good measure.
that's why a part of the deal was the daidoji supporting and protecting the orphanage in secret
That's not part of the deal. The only parts of the deal were Daigo gets out of jail (to prevent a Yakuza war in Hiroshima) and they issue a fake death certificate for Kiryu.
The original hush money was to support the orphanage, Kiryu rejects that.
and later in Gaiden Hanawa tells Kiryu to stop complaining about being asked to work because they're giving him room, board and money to the orphanage. you should pay attention more to cutscenes when they happen anon
That's not part of 6's ending though, if we're including Gaiden then we also have to include they have armed goons hanging around to kill Kiryu's family if Kiryu refuses to carry out orders for them. And these are orders that just as easily could be carried out by other agents, so it's just for the sake of being spiteful and whipping him.
>if we
why wouldn't we include gaiden outside of you just not liking it very much
Because originally people were arguing that 6 is a great ending for Kiryu and it's only bad because they rewrite things in Gaiden/8 to shoehorn him in, and I was saying 6's ending is bad from the start even before you get future details/rewrites.
But if you include them, it's an extremely bad ending because Kiryu just taking this after Gaiden would be like Kiryu getting to the Someya/Millennium Tower fight in 6, then stopping there like "Well, Iwami got the better of us, I give up, let's pack it up boys"
>idiots are saying stupid things therefore I will pick the same stupid argument with reasonable people
maybe you should stick to arguing this against the person who thinks that and not me buddy. obviously yakuza 6's ending was bad for anyone who was even slightly paying attention, Kiryu's entire story in 5 was how he was a miserable frick after giving up his dream of running the orphanage, and he even teaches the lesson he learned in 5 to Yuta. Just to immediately go and do the very same thing that made him miserable, but now he's indebted to a shadow government faction instead of just fricking off by himself. it was always a bad ending, and any further examination of the consequences of this ending were always going to turn out the way they did.
No one's using trips, so I can't really know. Looks like we agree either way, I was just going crazy arguing that even in the most generous, best case scenario, 6's ending is god awful for Kiryu and everyone who cares about him. Just a nonsensical way for Kiryu to learn absolutely nothing and want to kill himself while everyone else is made more miserable by his absence.
Imo 8’s got the most boring plot in the series
The problem is that it feels completely like a filler episode.
>Plot doesn't go anywhere, outside of Kiryu being released from the Daidodji, nothing really changes
>Ichiban might as well been a side character
>Akane's entire character is basically done when you finally meet her
>Life Links are all side content and hold little bearing to the actual plot
>Essentially just a filler episode
How can a Yakuza game be filler? They are all pretty much standalone.
cause he's a schizo who thinks Gaiden was setting up for some major Daidoji/Haruka reunion plot.
It's just a very VERY long beach episode
Park's death in 5 was so out of nowhere and weirdly set up that I genuinely thought it was a fake out when it happened and was waiting for her to show up later
I hope there won't be Daidoji anymore in the following games.
>it's alright, Ei-chan, I forgive you for killing Hanawa and ching chong dude
how do I crack the DLCs?
is it safe?
CreamAPI, no it is not safe, you'll get cooties if you use it. Trust me bro.
So I'm playing Lost Judgement for the first time after coming off of Infinite wealth.
There's something about the way the lost Judgement games control that is missing in IW. It feels like I'm more in the world when playing Lost Judgement.
That and the school shit in LJ great. It just feels like some of the interactivity with the world was lost when moving to the JRPG format. Granted it's an improvement over LAD, but I think it can be better.
part of me wants to finish lost judgment before tackling infinite wealth but idk
I got it on release, dropped off at some point, got a free upgrade to PS5 version, started a new game up to Ch6, dropped off, and picked it back up/beat it after IW.
Feels good, though I skipped about half the side content.
DLC goth one, she wears it in her new karaoke song.
Yagami controls better. Pulling out the skateboard's pretty seamless and works better than the segway, you climb over and onto stuff like cars, there's no loading into battle screens so your movement's unbroken getting into a fight, and more stuff's destructible running into it or when you carry on out of a fight having busted a restaurant's glass window you can walk through now.
I just wish the random drops were better, briefcases and safes in IW feel good to find.
What fricking Saeko outfit is that
>tfw still haven't played IW because I have to finish the rest of the series first
I'm almost finished with 4. I don't know how to feel about 5 supposedly being so bloated with content.
5 is bloated but 6's main story is probably worst in the entire series
>By the time the a new game comes out, Amazawa will have graduated high school.
haha
yes
little neat korean commercial for infinite wealth
the first time I saw this, I thought the guy was supposed Il yu-jin, but it's not.
which game has the most focus on romance in the story/main protag?
and by that i dont mean getting in relationships with random people, but rather romance playing a major part in the plot and character's development
Zero....as in none, not 0
shan't be playing any game after ishin then
morons teased with oryu but nothing happens at all. and then they leave together at the end of the game, with the game pretending they ever had any relationship whatsoever.
>What do you mean none of these games with stories about Yakuza and intrigue don't have a deep focus on romance?!?
what do you mean? Ishin wasn't about Yakuza.
The games are literally about interpersonal drama. The Yakuza is just a backdrop. Don't pretend you're not a homo.
1
Kiwami features a love story between a deeply troubled mob boss and Kazuma Kiryu but you're probably not into homosexual shit so enjoy being cursed with holding Haruka's hand for 6 games, loser.
Surprised no one said Kaito Files, which is the correct answer.
JORYU
>For Glory is a huge AoE buff that hits two different buffs
>Pareo of Happiness heals per buff received
Love that the best buff doubles as a 20% heal for the team
this kitty looks so fricking happy, I am very happy for him bros
>It's Ichiban gets raped episode
not my ichiban
>Kiryu has an emotional reminiscence about Tauriner, Staminan and Toughness
These memberberries are great
>date's poundmate summon
I can't fricking breathe.
>There are people out there unironically playing the game with english dub
fricking grim
Even if you play with the Jap dub you still have to endure the fricking EN script anyway. Enjoy hearing a guy say 'Arigato' and the subs reading "Mucho Appreciado, Bodacious Bruddah!"
I miss when RGG had two different English subtitle scripts for their games
yeah they took some liberties, but at least it doesn't feel like watching foreign film with eng dub overlapping. They straight up changed "bon voyage" to "ahui hoi" in the english dub
The worst part of the EN Dub for me were the random line barks, especially Seonhee's after eating any meal where she expresses "...that was certainly... food." It's the most disparaging out of character shit and she says it about every goddamn meal. Her line in Japanese? 'ごちそうさま', which is a pretty common "Thanks for the meal!" expression. The script is full of these sorts of baffling punch-ups.
The best part of the japanese dub is when you get on the scooters. Zhao's is the best
>LETSA GOOOO!
haha gets me every time. Saeko's is pretty good too.
STUFFED CRUST NO WAY
>filename
Whoa, the hell is this from?
judgment 0 obviously where sawashiro and yagami have a father-son dynamic
it's from "Good Luck!!," a 2000s jdrama starring takuya kimura as a pilot and his daily life. also has a qt older flight attendant in it
