Judgement has the best story in the series bar none and LJ comes very close to feeling like an actual character action game
The unfortunate aspect is that Judgement’s gameplay is pretty shit and LJ’s story is extremely flaccid even compared to the mainline games

If you could backport 8's combat systems into 7, I think 7 would be my favorite in the franchise.
They're releasing them too quickly. By the time you finish one, the next one is basically out. You don't get enough time to miss playing the games between them. Also, they seem to be following what mouthbreathers like when it comes to the games, so it starting feel more 'le whacky japanese man game' more than a crime drama with a side of whackiness.

This. But I kind of don't mind that when it comes to Ichiban's games to some degree, because it makes sense a soft reboot also comes with somewhat of a tonal shift.
But It's all about execution and I feel 8 didn't do it as well for as me as 7 did.

Ngl, I hate the new root motion animations on Kiryu, I'm just starting 6, years after finishing 0 and Kiwami 2. I'd rather go back to where 0 was in terms of fighting system.
I play on PC so I merely install a mod that brings back his old Dragon style.
I don't know why they made his new fighting style so trash in the dragon engine.
Thankfully every DE game with Kiryu playable has a mod to restore the old style and they all work good IMO. I've beaten K2, 6, Gaiden, and Infinite Wealth with mods that do that.
The thing is they're going to reboot the whole franchise, they were just testing waters with the latest games seeing what features we liked and what not

They are worth the experience, even with the first game jank Y1 already feels good to play and I like how raw the acting is since no one has gotten used to their role yet, especially kuroda.
