Yay or Nay?

I've been bitten VERY hard by the strategy game bug recently and you may or may not have already seen some threads I put up recently. Asking honestly, would you say Fire Emblem Engage is a fun, turn based strategy game? It'd be my first Fire Emblem game if that makes any difference.

    Get Unicorn Overlord instead

That's was another one I was looking into. The ones I'm thinking about right now are these four:

      Fire Emblem Engage
      Unicorn Overlord
      Star Renegades
      Triangle Strategy

Haven’t played Star Renegades but I’d recommend the other three, they have their shortcomings but they’re still pretty fun

This tbh, I though they were great

Thanks everyone for your help and sorry for making basically a thread every other day on this stuff. It's been a long time since I felt excited about games and this is basically me discovering a "new" genre. Since you all are the only ones I'd care to bring this stuff up to, here I am.

If you like the genre then play all of them they are great

Will do. I really feel like I'm going to like the genre so I'll add these to the list.

          Engage>Unicorn>>>[...]
Didn’t play the other one. Unicorn overlord isn’t really a strategy game, it’s brain dead

Is the rating for Triangle Strategy because of the story and dialogue being too much like another anon said here?

id recommend avoid fe threads for now and until you finish it. fe threads often have huge spoilers in them

haven't played star renegade but for me it was Engage>Triangle strategy>Unicorn overlord. If you do get engage, its story is terrible, but gameplay and map design is very good.

Engage is very fun, the one I had the most fun with out of the 3 but the characters and story are goofy as hell if that bothers you.
Triangle Strategy is hard to get into because the ratio of story to gameplay is really skewed and it's way too wordy. But it's decent if you're a fan of FFT style SRPGs.
Unicorn Overlord is probably the most balanced package out of these three, decent story, decent gameplay. Can't go wrong with it, I had fun with the game.
Never even heard of Star Renegades before.

Engage is gameplay-wise one of the best FE entries so far so I would go with it if you want it. Pro-tip early on: DON'T donate any money for any of the four kingdoms in the game, the rewards you'll get from them will come in too late to be profitable for your army. Marth's engage weapon at level 10 will help you out too if you play it right.

      >Pro-tip early on: DON'T donate any money for any of the four kingdoms in the game
That's bad advice. The meta is to donate up to at least level 3 to Brodia before doing any of the maps (chapter 7 is first). This gives you a fat dump of metals to forge with for the coming Solm arc. It's also recommended to get an average donation level of 3 across all of them after chapter 20, as that determines the level for the late game fights.

It’s good advice for a noob because he definitely won’t forge the right weapons

The better advice is to tell them to take each nation to lv 2 when they first come out then leave it like that

For the engayge gays I have a question:
I am aware that using a tonic grants a boost to the respective stat that doesn’t stack with somniel activity bonuses.
What I am curious about tho is if it stacks with enchanters buffs. So if I use a strength tonic on my unit then use a strength tonic to buff them again will both buffs stack?

You know what i'm a big engage hater but you'll probably have a great time with it on the condition that you don't really give a frick about story or world building.

I honestly don't care much about story in any game as long as the game is fun to play. Those would be nice "bonuses" though. As a next step after this, would you recommend something like Unicorn Overlord or Triangle Strategy for story and world building? Or maybe Three Houses?

the only fire emblem games with an above average story are 4 and its direct sequel 5. the rest are generic at best and offensive to your intelligence at worst.

unicorn overlord is inoffensive story wise but not amazing, amazing soulful game in every other aspect though, except the difficulty (too easy)

I didn't enjoy UO that much because it ended up being waaay too easy and only really delivers in terms of waifus and visuals. TS has too much dialog, but the difficulty is alright and it's always nice to see units having more specific kits and roles.

I'd say only triangle strategy is the game I could recommend if you lean on story and worldbuilding.

      >Axe pegusus.
This autistically bothered me. It was the same with most base classes. Lance cav, sword cav, axe cav. Same with fliers and armors. It felt like it diluted the pool and you were mostly making class changing decisions based on weapon type than what they could provide to the team.

I'd say play any other FE than Engage. Engage is sort of a celebration of the series and has characters of every previous game so it'll be more enjoyable if you've played the previous games.

Also I'm seeing Unicorn Overlord being recommended. Unicorn Overlord has some great tactical choices in unit setup/action logic/gear, but a lot of it feels useless because the game is very easy.

You know a fanbase is bad when it gets compared to Genshin.

Fire Emblem is one of those games that's better when you ignore the fans.
