I'm so tired of these fricking posers and their rogue lite games.

No one says terraria is a roguelike
Also Crypt of the Necrodancer is literally a roguelike
you can't refute this
>Necrodancer is literally a roguelike
It literally isn't
>dungeon crawler
>no metaprogression
>turn based
>permadeath
>random generation
literally how not?
>no metaprogression
Are you baiting anon?
Did you forget about the Dungeon Master, Merlin, Diamon Dealer, Janitor, and Hephaestus?
Diamond Dealer*
>He doesnt play the all zones mode
Ngmi
>meta upgrades
It isn't
What genre are they
I only play Angband on my old laptop while my high end computer is gathering dust.
For me is PosChengBand
Yeah but those games are fun though
Favorite combo/settings? I tried doing a crusader/life troll priest, I got straight-up stuck at the serpent, and the two magic schools actually had poor synergy.
I bet someone at a board game night (friend of a friend) who said that he liked Roguelikes. I asked him which, expecting him to say what you said, and he was like
>"ToME is my favorite, but I also like caves of qud and I am trying dungeon crawl stone soup"
Was pleasantly surprised, even though ToME4 and CoQ are basic b***h shit it was really nice to meet someone who actually played roguelikes.
>maj'eyal, caves of exploring your sexuality and dungeon crawl "flavour removal" bland soup are the best modern roguelikes on offer
It's over
I have a soft spot for ToME4 because I hadn't played roguelikes in years and that was the first one I played in a while, but Caves of Qud contains some cringe shit but OVERALL I guess it is fine. I'd rather have someone play CoQ over, I dunno, muh FotM roguelite game.
didn't ask
>Um ackshually Roguelikes are-
Shut the frick up you dumbass hipster
>this user unironically thinks angband and darkest dungeon are the same genre
Reminder;
would
there's nothing to pose with noita and FTL tho
they are simple and fun as hell, short too
I liked casually playing nethack but i never beat it. I remember one time i found an invisibility cloak and beat the shit out of a horde of goblins, i felt near invincible because enemies could hardly fight back, then a fricking house cat killed me.
>game is no longer roguelike if it becomes popular
>roguelite babies have this level of comprehension
>genre nazisme have a sense of humor level impossible
Most people don't make distinctions between different diarrhoea consistencies. Liquid shit is liquid shit.
>no true scotsman bullshit
Okay.
tome4, desktop dungeons, necrodancer...
i just play video games, man.
frick off with your autism.
Its called gatekeeping and its an incredibly based concept.
Traditional roguelikes suck and are boring as shit, "roguelites" replaced them because they're actually fun to play. Should have been a less shit genre if you didn't want this to happen.
I love action roguelikes. Basically the only thing that keeps me playing video games these days. Been enjoying more Doomsday Hunters lately.
I've started playing Tome4 and having fun, what other roguelikes play like that?
for me, it's elona+ CGX
Reminder that the peak of the roguelike genre is Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, pic not related
It gets a lot of shit, but it has evolved with times while staying true to the genre.
Are there games I’d rather play at the moment? Yes. Are the games I’ve enjoyed more in short bursts? Yes. But still, if I had to pick one for the rest of my life, it wouldn’t be a contest.
Language evolves with the times based on usefulness. The moniker "roguelike" is more useful when used to describe the overall broad genre of single-run permadeath games with elements of randomness and strategic planning, regardless of whether they are actually like the original Rogue. I propose "classic roguelike" or "oldschool roguelike" be used by purists. "Roguelite" is, and always has been, a shitty title that in practice is never actually used by game devs, because it's useless.
The only OG-style roguelike worth playing is Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. You also should play five minutes of both rogue and nethack so you can say, accurately
>I’ve played both and, as expected, they sucked ass
Everything interesting happening in the genre (story, gameplay, innovation, AND graphics) is all happening in the roguelite space. Roguelikes are a sweaty backwater for the least interesting kinda of elitists and 40 year olds.
>Pokemon of any kind
>worth playing
Grow up

PMD is shit outside of the level reset dungeons.
i do have a lot of fun with purity forest and destiny tower, though.
why do roguelikes look like shit?
>because they focus on gameplay first and foremost
they can't manage both?
Roguelikes (the good ones, so not Qud) aren't intended to be commercial products.
people have a sense of nostalgia for the ascii art-style. you don't see anyone using the ADOM cartoony sprites.
that one tf porn game
EDIT: it's Dungeon Depths
