it is a good dark fantasy game, its just you being a whiny contrarian homosexual is whats stopping you from enjoying it, thats a whole different issue entierly
Imagine WotC doesn't exist.
Design a game based on the Dark Sun Setting. Also, here's a compendium of all the 2e Dark Sun Content: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1tFGzlhjw0jL0MPyhLirZQ93QEgffN3vz
I'm in a sharing mood. Here's a channel that has all the Dark Sun Audiobooks (among others). I tried last year to maximally immerse myself before playing Shattered lands. I got filtered by the party-based CRPG style, but it's still good nonetheless.

The problem with Dark Souls is that it's just kind of gloomy. The world is bleak and that's all well and good but there's very little in the ways of personal connection or motivation. You just stumble between vague yahoos who drop bits of lore but lore isn't a story and there's not a reason to want to struggle against any of this darkness or to even care if the stupid fire gets linked or how any of that shit even works or what even means and no cryptic item descriptions with references to non characters are gonna fix that.
You could mention Diablo, Titan Quest, Viking: Battle for Asgard, Valheim, Severance: Blade of Darkness, Rune, Senua's Blade, God of War and OP would just find excuses.
To look at the ultimate depiction of something (masculinity, heroism, beauty) *should* evoke a desire to emulate that in some capacity within one's own life. If you see a dumpy whiny homosexual or ugly, poor-tempered woman, the only emotion evoked is disgust or superiority to them, which is moral degradation.
90% of heroes are still conventionally attractive, stop acting like something was taken away, at no point was frazetta's art the only mainstream artstyle around.
No, starfield characters looking ugly is not proof of anything.
And there is no "moral degradation" in an art piece evoking disgust if that is what it was meant to do, you worthless pseud
It was a point about anon's "it's moral degradation to feel disgust looking at art", a moronic statement on two levels: no only it's not true but it's also not the case in modern media where the protagonist still looks hot in important stuff
Look at marvel, how many of the male leads are canonically attractive? All of them. There is some media where the protagonist is ugly on purpose, because the objective is not to heroically inspire (saturn eating his son for example) and that's also fine.
"marxists and women" are a problem but this wasn't "taken away" nor did it disappear. What you are talking about is devs pretending to be artists shoving ugly shit in games, but that always fails and is not an artistic trend of any sort.

Frick off, there is no modern hot and ideal looking character. No male that isn't tame in it's masculinity and same for women.
Modern media is all degraded shit, all of it.

frazettas art doesnt capture female beauty in any meaningul way. its always a very basic carnal sense of beauty, which admittedly is fitting for his art, but theres no difference between females in his paintings and playboy photoshoots, neither are aimed at capturing the true nature of beauty, just the way a horny man percieves it. he is right about why so many people enjoy it though, primal extremes like that are the easiest form of art to digest and it appeals to the most people.
Stop being so pretentious. Frazetta's art hasn't been extreme since like the 70s. He captures an idealized female form that is accentuated but natural. It's a restrained form of erotica by modern standards that's clearly not just about breasts and ass. The hottest thing about the woman in OP's picture, for instance, is the curves of her back
You might as well try to argue that the Venus de Milo doesn't meaningfully represent beauty.
>something something problematic elements built into the setting >1-2 kotaku tier articles that rile up two groups of morons, one group that does a smear campaign on you and another that "defends" you and actually achieves what the opposite smear campaign was trying to do. >you just wanted to make a neat dark fantasy game
Oh there is a cop out, if you put a twink front and center you are actually "in mature discussion about subverting adult themes" even though the content is essentially the same. It helps if you also frick up the art
Have you seen the latest changes to D&D? >Can't use the word savage anymore >Can't use the word barbarian anymore >Can't use the word dimwitted anymore >Can't use the word blind anymore >Concepts like slavery are long since banned, even in Pathfinder
Sensitivity readers are literally killing the fantasy genre right now. Shit's fricked and nobody in the industry cares.
I checked out once I heard about the stupid wheelchair. Because, you know, IRL cripples want to be reminded of their disability when they're playing a game of make believe and fantasy.
last stuff I heard was something about druids and some other classes about to get removed because of "cultural appropriation" or something about that
not that you can't use the stuff you mentioned, but I guess the manual and the setting is just neutered
I guess it's the books that are hurting the most. The new Dragonlance trilogy is just fricking awful. Then again, that might have been deliberately done by WotC to finally kill off the setting.
Do people unironically care about this? i thought the whole point of DnD is you make your own homebrewed shit.
Unless your friends are homosexuals, it's not like you'll have any exposure to the Americanized woke shit.
there are some tabletops where it's actually encouraged to create your homebrew setting and maps and, normally, it's a group effort to make the lore or part of the world
maybe it'll turn simpler compared to d&d stuff and you won't have books supporting your setting, but you dodge most of external bullshit. You have to find people that want to do that tho, but I guess if you're playing a RPG you're supposed to have the imagination to manage to do it
It's more like symptoms of the disease that are sensitivity readers. Those people weasle their way into any writers room for some time now.
There are articles of writers who won't get their books published anymore if they don't get past the sensitivity readers. Not to mention that firm that gets posted here, doing sensitivity reading for most of the major studios at this point.
There is no way you'll ever get any dark fantasy anything in a climate like this.
All that's left is legacy stuff that's at least a decade old at this point.
I love how the magnitude of this ass is so ingrained in our brains at this point that we all immediately know that the second we click on threads starting with this Frazetta painting, we just KNOW, somebody's going to post the photo. Highly likely that threads starting with the painting are just people baiting into this photo getting posted because they either are too much of a b***h to admit they want to save it, or they are saving it right now. It's already been said, but she out-frazetta's frazetta. Like it or not, the photo is more relevant than the painting in 2023.
There is plenty of room quality dark fantasy gaming you just need to look for it and be patient.
For now I give you two multiplayer gems Dark and Darker and Begotten : Apocalypse
Frank Frazetta had a lot of dark fantasies if you know what I mean
I just looked up what country Frazetta is from. Now it all makes sense
>Frank Frazetta had a lot of dark fantasies if you know what I mean
BBC?
He actually made art of black dudes fricking aryan women if I remember correctly
>Frank Frazetta had a lot of dark fantasies

I've wanted to say Dark Soul, but its too generic, so I'll say King's field/Shadow tower

Dude knew his craft. Same with Arnold Friberg. Abinadi probably didn't look like this, but absolutely this whole depiction is unforgettable.
When did people forget this. We know what's realistic and what isn't. What we want, then, is the fantasy and that means taken to the heroic extreme.
Genuinely women and Marxism.

You are not nearly as smart and unique as you like to tell yourself.
Frank Frazetta's art is overrated.

>can't use barbarian anymore
there is still a barbarian class last i checked...
Yeah, but you can't use it like
>a barbarian horde
It's now
>an invading horde
Although I think that's a change from MTG.
That's a good thing.
It gatekeeps homosexuals out of the genre.
Too late; homosexuals snuck in ages ago and started making all these moronic changes in the first place
>he doesn't know
ok I've had enough D&D in my life. Warhammer here I come.
>he doesn't know
If you just found out now about wotc being pozzed you were never having DnD at all
>This is all about games guyz!!, really, it's all about fantasy tabletop games, nothing about politics or indoctrination here 😀

Unless your friends are homosexuals, it's not like you'll have any exposure to the Americanized woke shit.
why bother playing dnd instead of literally anything else or even making your own game when you have to homebrew everything
you use the dnd ruleset and combat, classes and stuff but homebrew the scenarios obviously

damn I am actually surprised nobody has posted his controversial art yet, last time I was on one these it was almost immediately derailed with it
Dragon's Dogma is the closest you're going to get.
you need an action version of tyranny, more or less
