you think this is an own but the reason the Switch doesn't have any movie games is because it's an underpowered POS that can't run them so it's not like they have a choice lol

They could make movie games in an aesthetic the Switch could handle easily.

BotW and TotK are far from perfect games, but they at least tried to push forward more complex physics interactions in games. On the Switch of all platforms. I have no idea why it was Nintendo of all companies to try it. It feels like all progression on that front has stopped from every dev since the early 2000s.

        Anonymous

        >I have no idea why it was Nintendo of all companies to try it

Because it's Nintendo almost always the company who creates a new golden standard in videogames. It happened with Super Mario 64, it happened with Ocarina of Time, it happened with the N64 joystick, with the Wiimote that Sony shamelessly copied years later and it once again happened with BotW as evidenced with the several clones that popped later which used a lot of the same mechanics that game brought, such as Genshin Impact. The Switch itself is a new standard as shown by Valve creating the Steam Deck or Sony and their pathetic attempt at a Wii U tablet knockoff.

How do they do it? The Switch is the most underpowered hardware and isn't even really a console. The current gen console run circles around it in just from their boot up UI alone and THIS is the one that has all the actual video games.

How? Someone explain how the least powerful console is the one that has the games?

      Anonymous

You answered your own question dumbo. It's because it's the least powerful they can crank out games for it.

      Anonymous

Nintendo's hardware is shit so they live or die on releasing games to bait people into buying it. Sony and Xbox have way lower attach rates for games because bored teenagers and bachelors just buy them for the sake of owning them, maybe buying 1 game a year if that.

      Anonymous

      >most underpowered hardware and isn't even really a console
They do it precisely because of this, not in spite of it. PlayStation, Xbox, and PC games taking advantage of the powerful hardware focus on looking closest to reality. Nintendo isn't shackled by realism, they focus on what will be fun to play.

      Anonymous

Because, moron, what you're looking at is the result of companies pandering to graphics/realism gays. Games so big that they tank hard drives, demanding absurd amounts of spaces, uncompressed and lazily put together to avoid time because they're already on a deadline with an 80 hour crunch week to appease their corpo overlords to line their pockets.
You are witnessing a potential second vidya crash. One led by the lost sight of innovation, blinded purely by haphazard greedy fricks who think that more detail in a game = more sales. And then when homosexuals, geniune numb minded, sub IQ, near clinically braindead NPC's buy it, the cycle deepens. Now everyone's putting money up for brand recognition of other IPs, not because they could make a new game, but so to goad players with a theoretical carrot stick. Sony freaking out over losing COD is a pure example. They can just have the westoids shit out a game and it'll print money because of NPCs.
Most AAA games aren't design to be fun, they're designed to be consumable. That's how it's been for the past 10 years. Now Nintendo is definitely resting on their laurels with the Switch's success, and I do hope someone can force them to panic, but their games STILL adhere to fun. Whether it's appealing to your own sensibilities is a different subject, but there is some sort of soul in each game of theirs.
Frick, if anything, I hope a crash happens. I hope we get worse consoles with worse graphic capabilities and teraflops or sharts or whatever bullshit they spew, frick the whole thing and go back to square one. Force devs to bring out the maximum potential in a limited console, make the company earn their millions for less time and better optimization. I think that's the only way this market can truly turn around, because what we have now is just a front row seat to the endgame: a market where Nintendo is the ruler again. And I don't think that'd be a good thing.

Because they (mostly) keep identity politics out of their games.
People don't want fantasy to remind them of the real life things that piss them off.
      Go figure.

      Anonymous

Because that's not why people buy consoles anymore. I don't know why so many on Ganker can't see the obvious. In some ways Sony won the console war back in the N64 days, but definitely around Gamecube. The result of Nintendo losing meant they bowed out of the hardware arms race and approached different avenues. You buy a switch for portability, exclusives, and hardware gimmicks. Nowadays everyone is multiplat either via your phone and your PC. The need for a bulky black gaming box is VERY niche now. You're never going to need more than one, so why compete on that front?

        Anonymous

PC and Switch is all you need. And I'm hesitant to get into PC gaming because it sounds like a colossal pain in the ass to troubleshoot everything and keeping up with hardware seems expensive. I like my Switch because when I want to play something I'm playing it in less than a minute. Not fricking with an emulator or waiting for Steam to boot then having to troubleshoot to figure out why the game keeps crashing.

          Anonymous

PC gaming is fine, but you have to accept that every 5-8 years you'll have to dump a few hundred dollars into it to keep things up to date if you want to play new games above the quality of consoles.

          Anonymous

I'll say this. The "you have to troubleshoot" everything is very much overblown. No doubt you'll probably run into 1 or 2 problems every few years, but it's in no way a regular occurrence. Go for it man. I say this as someone who is also PC + Nintendo as of last gen.

I don't know you're friend, but all I can speak on is my own personal experiences. For me, I love having the PC and rarely ever have any issues with it. There's a good chance that since you're here, you're at least familiar with PCs on a basic level and understand that just having a "gaming PC" doesn't mean you're going to be playing something like Starfield at 4K 60 on all ultra settings unless you have the components for that.

Seriously, look at PCPartpicker and go check out the PC build general on Ganker to get a good idea for how you should go about building yours. There are also a load of videos on YouTube you can use too.

As someone who used to be pretty much nintendo only and am now pc only, I play far more games on pc that I never have problems with that I would never be able to play on the switch to begin with. Shit just works, even on the deck. If I do have an issue it's almost always with an ancient game, but there's so many community patches, fixes and guides, it's painless. You'll inevitably run into some game that's too much effort to get working, but chances are that game isn't available anywhere else anymore anyway and there's such a massive amount of cheap or free games on pc you're spoiled for choice.

It's all Wii U ports and remakes

      Anonymous

      >Someone explain how the least powerful console is the one that has the games?
Because in order to develop for a Nintendo handheld you do not need powerful equipment and the gradual advance allows developers to accommodate and adapt. The Wii U was rough because Nintendo admitted their developers were getting used to developing Xbox 360 era games and the time and budget for the projects was larger than they had anticipated.

In contrast, Microsoft and Sony started selling hardware at a loss to beat the competition and invested heavily into few multimillion projects and the cost are so massive they had to eventually port the titles to PC to break even but simultaneously did not have experienced developers to use the new hardware and therefore have NO GAMES.

So it is safe to assume that the next Nintendo platform might be as powerful as Ps4 or early Xbox One models in 2026 but will have more games while MS will have no exclusives and Sony will only have temporal exclusives and it is safe to assume that the complete PS5 game library counting only exclusives might be composed of about 10 titles, same as Vita.

And this is all MS fault for trying to play catch up with PC users and even the most popular PC games use yesteryear GPUs. You can still get a good mileage out of a 1660 Super.

they're actually taking advantage of their consumer grade hardware unlike snoy and might-get-soft almost any dev studio in the market right now to make game development easier and quicker, so they're cranking out a lot of gaemz, and they're still using their own engines assuming they didn't just pay the fee to remove the start up "made in unity" logo
