Do you feel like this game has anti-checkpoints?
The game seems nearly impossible if you die after beating a boss

It’s just mindless grinding until you get your gun to a level where it’s the triangles

It’s a Sunsoft game, so it can’t be that bad, right?

There’s only 3 good sunsoft games

        >There’s only 3 good sunsoft games
There's at least four on the NES alone
        Batman
        Journey to Silius
        Gimmick!
        Ufouria

There's also Super Spy Hunter, Blaster Master and Batman: Return of the Joker. But they have their downsides.

if you wanna get the good guns and whip you do

Have you ever tried the PAL version?
It's a shocker how much easier it is, compared yo murican version.

No wonder why this game gets the title of "hard game", you guys talk about NTSC version.

didnt they make it so enemy bullets dont go through walls?
that must make the sewers trivial

Try going into the sewers or killing the red toads with a Level 1 gun. If you don’t have a strong enough gun you won’t even be able to kill toads or spores because they regen health immediately after being damage. I bet you’ve never played the game.
Leveling the gun and whip is literally AIDS because of the atrocious drop rate of Gun/Whip -Ups. Let’s not even mention when horseshit like a Gun-Down spawns on top of the Gun-Up.

        and none of the reflexes

It keeps your progress but sends you back to start. One of the designers realized they forgot only too late in development where they couldn't add in some without delaying things for more testing, but they just said "ah marketing can call how hard it is a feature".
Fester's Quest is one of the NES's top selling games so maybe that worked.

        >It keeps your progress but sends you back to start.
Exactly, but the bosses stay dead, and killing a boss fully heals you.
I genuinely think this game is easier by resetting the game, rather than "continuing" from the beginning if you killed a boss. Which is fine, just comes off as a really weird concept

This looks fun. Never could get very far in the snes version

I couldn't imagine playing this game without a turbo controller.

You'd get a repetitive strain injury.

Even with a turbo controller I got bored of it and never beat the game.

I have the PAL version, so I was confused when AVGN raged at the first sewer. The truth is, the game got updated in Europe so that bullets can pass through walls (there was never a Japanese release).

Having grown up with it gives me some bias, but I think the Boss theme is one of the best tracks the NES ever did.

The guy who did Sunsoft's music during this era is one of the best on the hardware, like that snare I mentioned, it's this combo of a little tiny blip on the triangle along with the noise hit that gives it a much more authentic sound, I think some people went on to use a noise DPCM combo but I've always preferred how Sunsoft did it

Blaster Master is great. Only real downside is there's no way to save/pw system.
