I feel like it could work. Not in the Huge fields of nothing but grasslands kind of way but imagine having to explore an entire city with hordes of zombies roaming around. Giant zombie monsters that could chase you across a big city. You have to build and repair vehicles and stuff to have ways to escape in time.
Not exactly vey RE t be fair but it can definitely work.

This is the most moronic comment on this site

Why not? this sound very RE for me
it's literally re2/re3/outbreak and even re6 but now with a open world

          That... That's the joke

Not a funny joke. It's a great game, just needed yo optimize it for some PCs/graphics card.

    >Leon, I need you to collect three tyrant hats. I’m sending you the coordinates to their hideout now.
    >Leon, my daughter is sick. I need some herbs for her. (Collect 15 green herbs)
    >Leon, my wife’s grave has been overrun by the dead. Can you deliver these flowers for me?

The last few games have been doing "open area" design, like Downtown in 3, the Village and Castle hubs of 4, and the main village you circle around in 8.
This wouldn't be at all surprising, though I imagine Capcom would still have points of no return. I doubt a fully open world game.
Ganker pretending they haven't been posting shit ideas like "muh open world raccoon city" for fricking years is pretty funny though.

You will roam the open world
    You will gather the materials
    You will craft the items
You will climb the Ubisoft towers
    Ánd you will be happy

Huh, I just saw an Elon Musk xeet about something related to babies in the context of video games, wonder why there is no active discussion on it here

Doesnt remember the OG RE3's huge fricking sprawling map where there were even stores you could visit for extra cool things.

Too bad the Remake botched this completely.

The frick is this revisionist history. I know nobody on Ganker has played the classic games, but come on.
Here's a labelled map of the original city streets. The only exclusion is the RPD, which is small anyways. All of the labelled areas are the notable interiors (with the exception of the boutique) and you are made to go to all of them as part of the main scenario. Only one of them changes in any significant way upon returning, and that is the warehouse.

I always imagined what an open world Resident Evil game would be like, something like R2/Re3/Outbreak but with much more freedom of exploration

They could have easily made RE3 Remake an open world racoon city but they decided to shit the bed instead.

So it's going to be even more of a boring, unreplayable slog? The side-quests and backtracking for treasures in RE4make was garbage. Literal busywork made to drag out the game because autists these days only view games as a way to kill time and the only thing that matters is how much time a game can kill.

Great, clearly RE engine is great for open world games, as demonstrated with Dragon's Dogma 2.

Yes. Clearly gaming went to shit only after people started complaining about openworld games right around the time that....
      >checks notes
      gaming went to total shit.
      Absolutely correct.

Capcom just finished overhauing the RE engine for next Gen games in Jan. RE9 will be the first game on it.
