I didn't know who snake was so didn't care. I'm sure this is how most children feel today when their fighter pass is even more obscure shit

Was more excited for Sonic, Mario's rival back in the day.

The only reason Sonic endured was console war marketing. There are plenty of shit Mario games but ALL Sonic games are garbage.

That trailer with Live and Learn was peak smash hype for me.

I remember going to a store to spend my birthday money and picking up the case for brawl, looking at the back and seeing sonic, I thought it was insane seeing sonic in a nintendo game so I bought it instantly.

I was a Nintendo kid who didn't even know who Snake was. He still looked cool.

I pretty much just thought he was a cool army guy like in Call of Duty

I was obsessed over the trailer. Poured hours into it and Snake hype never died for me.

This made me realize: How would people and Ganker react if Sora happened at the end of Japan Time with Brawl?

The internet would've blown up like soragays hoped instead of being a drawn-out fart. Lots of rostergay picks missed the boat by two games in terms of hype.

Ridley was still huge as frick. Sora's problem I think was that he's around, but his games haven't been great recently. He doesn't have the "HE'S BACK" angle that Banjo does and he's no longer at peak popularity, either.

I still think he was a good pick just because he has worldwide appeal, there isn't any one part of the world that's gonna go "who the frick is this dude it should've been [character popular in my country]"

plus KH is so sentimental as a rule that it just works for a final pick

thought it was awesome. I had played mgs2 at my brothers friends house. Didn't have a PS2 at the time but begged my mom to let me get twin snakes on gamecube even though it was rated M. Loved it and eventually played the rest later.

Snake will always be the first non-nintendo ip to get into smash, the hype will NEVER be the same

i didn't know who this guy was and after i learned who he was i looked back at the trailer and was like "damn that's actually sick as frick"

to this day it's still probably the coolest third party reveal just because it's so out of nowhere and the slow reveal that "holy shit they're putting solid snake in smash bros? can they do that?"

    >SHOU TAIMU
This reveal happened while the hype for MGS4 was at its peak. It really was a crossover of two of the most important franchises in gaming at the time, and it came out of nowhere.
Nothing will ever come close to that.

I had no idea who he was as a kid. The codecs made me believe that Solid Snake was a selfish egotistical anti-hero, turns out that was his Dad’s personality. Wario was more hype to me in the first trailer. Sonic was the one that sent me into hype overdrive.

This was a fun announcement. You just got done watching the reveal trailer for Super Smash Bros Brawl with a bunch of new character introductions. Then we get a random codec call and start thinking we're getting a Metal Gear game on the Wii. Then Colonel and Snake start talking about Smash Bros and we realize it's still Smash Bros and Snake is one MORE new character showing up.

Best 3rd party reveal trailer by far, only other one that came close was Mega Man.
Sonic is still the GOAT in terms of guest characters but he was just up on the dojo one day so not really comparable.

Cringe. The only real person that would work in Smash is James Bond, Tony Hawk, or Michael Jackson

I didn't play mgs at the time but I watched enough videos on the internet to know who he was and how cool it was that he got added. I was more hyped for Sonic at the time because I played Sonic Adventure 2 religiously.
