It suck much of the soul out of DP, adds more linearity to the story, and adds ugly shitmons from Johto and Hoenn everywhere. Just stick with Diamond.
DP continue to be the only good games in gen 4, and the last good games in the series. Plat is a cheap cashgrab, HGSS are soulless demakes, and Gen 5-9 are all piss easy ugly hallways based on western shitholes.

It's the definitive way of playing Sinnoh. It has a lot of QoL changes (the Poketch has a back button now), you can actually get most of the cross gen evo's before postgame, Looker makes his first appearance, the gym order gets shifted in the middle, teams get changed around to accommodate the newly added Pokémon (Flint now has a full team of fire types), etc.

It plays a lot faster than DP and thats all that matters honestly
Overall Platinum is a huge improvement over Diamond and Pearl unless you really like DP's exclusives, Platinum more than makes up for it though. Only thing that sucks about Platinum is that it's more linear. I highly encourage you to play the Battle Frontier too.
you have fond memories of one of the worst pokemon games and are about to play a third version that single-handedly turns it into one of the best. i really envy you.
Back when I got Platinum I was so disappointed it's really 92% the same game. If you liked dp you'll like it but don't expect too much. Third versions have always be a scam
