Dark Sword of Chaos was the game I got with my nes alongside built-in dunkhunt. I had zero problems beating it as a child. I doubt I'd have interest playing it today because it's just not a particularly interesting game. It's really only the last boss that was a headache.

Final stage is fairly brutal and has the "die against boss, lol do the entire level again" thing, which is bad because the final boss has like three forms. I agree the rest of the game is not THAT hard.
Ninja Gaiden on NES is not even particularly hard it just requires memorization. Kinda like the shittier later Dark Souls games.

Last time i played it you could get infinite dirt and unlimited power with trees, even without doing this, the game is very forgiving with the exception of heat and gas management which only become a problem mid game if you didn't pay attention to them
