In ultimates, each phase dying too early can completely frick with people's rotation and buff alignment.
For example in TOP alone:
P1 dying too early means buffed cleaves are lost.
P2 and P3 dying too early makes every job with a 1 minute buff lose a usage at the start of P5.
P6 dying too early means the party doesn't get a full usage of their 2 minute burst at the end of the fight.
This especially fricks with tanks because they are all 1 minute jobs so they b***h the loudest.

Interestingly enough, for savage as both phases are logged separately regardless of if done in one pull, the best way to get a parse in 2 phase bosses is to not jump off at the start of phase 2.
You do a resource run where you don't do your final 2 minute burst and just build resources at the end of P1, then start P2 with max gauge in every job.
Think of a RPR with 100/100 in the opener.

I really must stress to people the context in which 1.0 launched. On top of it being unoptimized at launch, the majority of MMORPG players were running off integrated graphics in 2010. Its main competitor World of Warcraft was at its height of popularity at this time, so asking people to switch over was not possible like the Shadowbringers WoW refugee crisis. Another thing is the context of people that were the target audience for 1.0, which were FFXI players. At that time the game was 8 years old. It would be like asking World of Warcraft players to switch to a brand new game where nothing carried over with less content during Cataclysm. The decision to kill 1.0's game designed happened within the first three months of the games launch. It wasn't even given the chance to survive.

There was the early plan to link the two games together with a portal you could use to change between games in real time. If they'd gotten that going it might have helped. But then 1.0 launch also only had levequests as content. All those plans they had were really fricking cool, like FC airship and naval battles, and they didn't any of them into the launch.

How does modding in XIV work exactly? Say if I want to replace a character's voice. Do I just crack open the game files, find the voice lines and replace them with the other voice?

I've been levelling an alt on an EU server, and I don't know if it's just because I'm only seeing low level dungeons, but the players are consistently awful.

I've heard but not confirmed that the clear squads actually tell the c41 to stop hitting the boss to get better kill times and hence better parses.

In ultimates, each phase dying too early can completely frick with people's rotation and buff alignment.
For example in TOP alone:
P1 dying too early means buffed cleaves are lost.
P2 and P3 dying too early makes every job with a 1 minute buff lose a usage at the start of P5.
P6 dying too early means the party doesn't get a full usage of their 2 minute burst at the end of the fight.
This especially fricks with tanks because they are all 1 minute jobs so they b***h the loudest.
Interesting, didn't think about transitions, but that makes sense. I guess that's why people also kill themselves on savage phase transitions.

You do a resource run where you don't do your final 2 minute burst and just build resources at the end of P1, then start P2 with max gauge in every job.
Think of a RPR with 100/100 in the opener.

does that actually matter, every report i see is just a straight slope down in dps ~25s before the clear, so the faster you clear, the faster you would arrest that downward slope

People complain about 1.0's engine because of its "technical debt" with things like how FFXIV handles inventory slots, character data and gear. The actual engine isn't actually incapable or anything, it really was just that FFXI's developers were moronic and rushed on top of it.
I recall dev commentary on 1.0 being more than just "technical debt". I know people blame current xivs shortcommings on old spaghetti code but I'm not talking about that. I'm pretty sure most of the "why did xiv fail" was blaming entirely on crystal tools for some reason which is silly because they already have 1 (2? I don't know if XI is actually on crystal tools) MMO running on the engine just fine.
The issue was just dev incompetence and Square Enix trying to push out a half-formed turd to compete with WoW's upcoming expansion.
Meanwhile look at the state of WoW compared to FF14 today, 14 is the golden boy of mmo's and WoW is the tired old dusty game that no one except real mazed, die-hards care about.

I really must stress to people the context in which 1.0 launched. On top of it being unoptimized at launch, the majority of MMORPG players were running off integrated graphics in 2010. Its main competitor World of Warcraft was at its height of popularity at this time, so asking people to switch over was not possible like the Shadowbringers WoW refugee crisis. Another thing is the context of people that were the target audience for 1.0, which were FFXI players. At that time the game was 8 years old. It would be like asking World of Warcraft players to switch to a brand new game where nothing carried over with less content during Cataclysm. The decision to kill 1.0's game designed happened within the first three months of the games launch. It wasn't even given the chance to survive.

There was the early plan to link the two games together with a portal you could use to change between games in real time. If they'd gotten that going it might have helped. But then 1.0 launch also only had levequests as content. All those plans they had were really fricking cool, like FC airship and naval battles, and they didn't any of them into the launch.

I'm not sure, but you can also just use audacity or some other program to make a blank sound file. It accepts .ogg and a few other file types I can't remember off the top of my head.
