The answer is "STOP GIVING A SHIT" because at the end of the day, it shouldn't matter what race the person voicing the character is. If the character is well written, that alone will be good representation for a culture. If the problem with dubbing was a "lack of diversity among the actors" then the answer to that would've been to take a chance on lesser known actors for new projects(but don't recast old franchises to do this), that alone would naturally lead to a more diverse pool of actors. Studios don't do either option though and instead the dub industry is a joke since this whole race thing has ended up leading to worse performances and typecasting(ironically making it harder for a non-white actor), and new actors are now getting shat on more because they're being pushed to the forefront by replacing roles that people actually liked.
But this is a hypocrisy in itself, no? People are complaining that a Japanese videogame character is being voiced by a chinese man instead of stopping giving a shit.

Typically I do English dubs in games, but after playing 0-6 in Japanese, I didn't feel like switching to English for 7.
I enjoyed 0-6 in JP, but the ENG dub of 7 is fantastic and I like it way better than the Japanese largely for Ichiban and Zhao's voices. In my head, I have no problem hearing Kiryu as Kuroda and Ichiban as Tang, simultaneously.

Is the story confusing and maybe even poorly written? Yeah, but everything else makes up for it and the nonsense plot fits in with Yakuza series so well.
Amazingly fricking boring. I preferred when all the minigames were on the side and I could engage with them as a pleased instead of having to sit through crap like hunting rabbits to get to the beat-em-up.

I really wish Yakuza 0 didn't become popular in the West. The series was on its last legs at that point; Yakuza 5 didn't even get a physical release in the West because the series sold so poorly. Could've ended the series on a high note.

If they really cared about proper representation for characters by having them be portrayed by someone of that culture, they'd try harder, instead we hire Cubans to play Mexicans and Chinese people to play Japanese people and say that is the same thing.
I'm not cutting them any slack, but what else can you really do about this? You can't hire a Japanese-American VA that doesn't exist.
The answer is "STOP GIVING A SHIT" because at the end of the day, it shouldn't matter what race the person voicing the character is. If the character is well written, that alone will be good representation for a culture. If the problem with dubbing was a "lack of diversity among the actors" then the answer to that would've been to take a chance on lesser known actors for new projects(but don't recast old franchises to do this), that alone would naturally lead to a more diverse pool of actors. Studios don't do either option though and instead the dub industry is a joke since this whole race thing has ended up leading to worse performances and typecasting(ironically making it harder for a non-white actor), and new actors are now getting shat on more because they're being pushed to the forefront by replacing roles that people actually liked.
