That's a neat thought to entertain. I thought it was going to go that way the moment I played this chapter, should've known better. At least it was pretty fricking funny.
If you thought the story was moronic, it just gets worse and worse as the game goes on. There's a point where they can't go after some evil queen or some shit, then one of the characters goes in the door, so they panic and try and go after her, but can't because she locked the door. Then a cutscene plays where she gets her shit kicked in, and they come bursting through the door at the exact second she's about to die, and the only explanation given is "we broke through".

It's more just a limitation of gameplay and/or Sothis not giving much of a shit. Datamined Sothis has a higher BST than even Edelgard, though the meaningful difference is mostly Edelgard just having very low caps in luck.
In 3 Hopes where Sothis actually has her memories and will exert direct control over Byleth as need be they're appropriately much more threatening.
The Slithers consider her cthulhu but there's only so much you can demonstrate in-game.
The biggest missed opportunity they had was the idea of Edelgard’s Emblem nullifying Byleth’s so he couldn’t do time reversal. That would’ve been a Kino mechanic to really get players to try a bit more

This game filtered 3H secondaries so hard it's hilarious. All the folks I know who had 3H as their first Fire Emblem couldn't even play Engage on normal, the combat was too difficult for them.
