Despite what everyone says about MK4 I liked it and I still remember all the cutscenes to this day even the Reptile ending. They always do him bad in every game for some reason.
Reptile is the eternal jobber, he reminds me of Scorpion in Marvel, for some reason, they just designated him the universes b***h boy despite him starting as something you'd expect to become a bigger deal. Not quite great for one of the more popular characters of the series, the third ninja, and the first ever hidden boss
honestly the only MK character more overrated than reptile is takeda. but if it makes you feel better they did make him a good guy in MK12 with a supporting role in the story and a demon waifu.
Reptiles place in the story is very underwhelming and he rarely shines, so in that way he could be overrated, but his concept itself was cool to me because I simply like reptiles, the only thing I like more is arthropods, which made me favor Scorpion as a kid even though it's just a namesake and he has little to do with actual scorpions, but I also love Hell so it worked out anyway

Jokes aside though, I always go bonkers for the militant christian church kind of guys. But MK doesn't have those, so I went for Sektor becase I like flamethrowers. And I feel like Sektor nevet had much love either, especially in later MKs. Hopefully MK12 will treat him right.
Yeah Sektor is cool, he has a bit more of a cohesive theme I think than Cyrax, being just balls to the wall armament and firepower. I suppose you could say Cyrax's nets and bombs are more of a.......tactical thing, maybe? Idk.

Reptile gets a bad rep
What exactly was going on with MK4? They turned the cheesiness up to 11 on this one. That being said, I still enjoyed MK Gold. First release is a buggy mess but the release from a month later takes care of most of the nonsense. Fricking MK always being broken at release.

They didn't. They cut dumb things like Babalities, Friendships and Animalities, they made the game darker and the character designs more serious.

Animalities were arguably the darkest aspect of these goofy fricking games.
I'll agree with you on the MK3 animalities, but UMK3 introduced stuff like Scorpion's animality. The series started to have a bit of an identity crisis after MK2.

I thought mk4 was pure shit but my friend had it for N64 AND the fricking game boy version which was even fricking shittier! This is coming from someone who grew up with umk3 on snes because my older brother bought it for me in preschool KEK
