a lot of undead quests are about a new plague. you even plague some hostages at lvl 5
an undead quest has you kill a tauren that is in UC on horde business. there is a quest in TB about finding more information on undead and you cant get the quest if you play undead. there is ALMOST a sort of cold war between the undead and tauren in classic

I actually played through Warcraft 3 (not the remastered) recently-ish because everyone since vanilla dropped has been whining about how they “raped” the lore and I was surprised because the game’s writing was predictable dogshit. Just plagiarizing Tolkien. Where is this great lore that Blizzard supposedly “raped”?

Warcraft 3 lore did the job and it stimulated the action that was the war at the time. Arthas aside, it's serviceable and lets the player's imagination get carried away with the rest. WoW can't manage that

You...uhhhh erase everything from vanilla onwards and build from the end of Wacraft 3.
This time you don't go full moron and delete big lore figures like Kael'Thas/Illidan/etc.
You don't show and tell anything about the old gods, the titans, etc, you keep the mystery alive. Some stuff from WoW Vanilla can work but for the most part you keep the elves and undead separate factions from the horde and alliance.
Then you simply make use of Goblins/Trolls/Ogres/Naga as cannon fodder for your storylines and sprinkle a bit of Night Elf empire in northern Kalimdor and some Undead frickery in northern Eastern Kingdoms.
You play more on inside faction stories such as Van Cleef for alliance and whatever the Horde had, you don't just jump to saving the world over and over and over again because we know what that leads to.
The more lore figures you have on the board the more complex you can make the story without having to resort to making up new shit along the way. What are the backdoor dealings between the dwarves and the humans? create political factions in each bigger racial faction who are butting heads in the background, fighting for power. What about those tauren and orcs and trolls? are they all buddy-buddy behind the scenes or is there infighting held under control by Thrall still? What about those fricking night elves in the north who are breathing down your necks because of what you've done with the forests? There's so much that can be explored.
Go crawling back to whoever wrote the lore for Warcraft 1,2,3 and TFT expac and hire them to write it again, this time with having learned the mistakes made 20 years ago with WoW.
As for the explanation for why everything since vanilla WoW vanished, blame the aspects or something, maybe some titans turned back time, etc. The point is that to unfrick the lore, you have to erase everything and return to the drawing board, starting with the end of Warcraft3 and TFT.

I just wanted more games set in Outland. Having the blood elves, naga and illidan going through Outland and fighting demons was the coolest fricking shit ever. I think the lore really took a massive nose dive for me with Cataclysm. In theory I guess the Forsaken worked in the Horde and it'd be better if they were a bit of a looser faction (outside of the Orcs/Tauren/Trolls in Kalimdor). Less end of the world threats and more local adventuring against interesting backdrops, supported by actually cool games to augment the MMO.

Build / conquer / govern outposts and cities, warfare on land, naval warfare, areal warfare. You know, Warcraft.
I think it would be hard to have a proper sense of lore to it now without altering gameplay aspects (having a living "World" of Warcraft should involve shifting territories and major siege battles for players in the same vein as helldivers during Vanilla content), but the most basic thing I can think of is swapping the order of expansion releases and removing some entirely. Void god shit doesn't exist anymore after cthun is dead.

There is no reason for a WoW 2 beyond resetting the bloated lore, or a drastic graphical upgrade and engine change. Both of those could be considered unnecessary. The expansion model is just more profitable and suits their lazy needs to simply just add more content to the game. They won't try to make WoW 2 until people stop buying WoW. The only good reason you would have for trying to make a WoW 2 is to attempt to reinvent the MMO genre entirely, which would realistically see the removal of traditional mmorpg combat and systems for something more dynamic and streamlined, which would most likely suck shit.

Resetting the lore won't make a hypothetical WoW 2 magically popular, nobody cares about the lore beyond surface level story shit like the setting and world. WoW 2 would need to be a drastically different game to stand out. I suggest they just rip off elden ring but as an mmo, make the whole setting dark and grungy again.
