The only thing I'm good at is programming. I can only hope that I can use the money I make from that to outsource everything thing else.
...yes. they will surely hire me after they see this.
>PUBG grenade icon
Honestly make the graphics less offensive and this would be solid portfolio project.
Make the main character a israelite who gun down hordes of antisemites, chuds, Nazis, skinheads, Hamas Arabs and white nationalists! They will love it!
Wolfenstein already exists.
if you commit to this you're going to get an article written about your game on BuzzFeed like Angry Goy 2 did and your projects gonna to take off. keep up the good work.
i cant believe out of half the garbage in that image, Phaser isnt even on there.
nah im going to be a one man army
a piece of landscape and a sunrise/sunset cycle, no night time yet
hey alright
no, I am making my own games, and not gunning to become a wageslave making ESG pozzed shit
also don't make these threads so often, no one will post any progress
Was there anything worth checking out last GDC?
Isn't GDC a speedrunning event or something? What's there to check out? Also, why does it happen so often? It's getting annoying.
It's the Game Developer's Conference in Pooville, CA it just happened last month
Oh, I thought you meant Games Done Quick. I mistook the 'C' for a 'Q' because I'm ESL and they make similar sounds. God I hate that letter, as well as the entirety of the language. You don't learn English, you memorize it since the rules tend to act more like suggestions.
Totally fair man. It's a beastly and beautiful language.
It was quite literally all diversity, brown people whining and transsexuals trying to groom attendees.
>literally
Yep. Not a single topic about video games. They took the Ganker approach.
This always happens when you let business people take care of things.
That's sad I thought there was supposed to be one or two good panels a year
Good thing I’m a bit tan: I’ll be a Trojan horse, harboring the evil ideas t like communism is bad and a man should persevere through all issues instead of whining about it.
start sucking up to kotaku and zoe quinn now or they wont accept you
How ‘bout…NO. Since gamedev isn’t my job, I don’t need anyone’s approval (except Fygoon Squad’s).
It’s not like they’re gonna pay my bills.
>You are working on your passport to the gaming industry, right ?
But I'm already in game industry.
Same. I'm actually planning on leaving the industry to have more time to work on my game, ironically.
Spent 4 hours watching blender tutorials on geometry nodes. Learned a lot but not what I actually want to achieve.
Thanks for reading my blog.
>Game dev salaries GDoc :
Grim, as a code monkey it seems better to get a comfy corporate bullshit job, after a couple of years turn it into a part time job and work on your own game project in your free time. You'll have the same money with less stress and you can do at your game project whatever you want instead of some israelite telling you to program more micro transactions into the game.
OP here. This is what I'm doing, but I needed an excuse to start a thread. When I found this doc it got me wondering if the years I spent making my own shit count
In my experience they don't count. They only count years worked at a AAA studio
The older I got the more I realized that a masterpiece game and economic incentives are at odds
>inb4 but company X made game Y which is a masterpiece!
Can you imagine that game to be any better? If yes, it's not a masterpiece. And so far I have yet to play any game where I think "yes, this can't be any better"
I am working on my game. Currently working on the main characters state machine. Planning to do a mascot platformer inspired by games like Jak and Daxter, Spyro and conker's bad fur day
big ogre booty in my face!! hoping she farts today!
She is a goblin!
>Goblin
Needs breasts that match her booty.
man that huge 90 degree hip swing looks so weird since she's pivoting in place instead of on one of her feet
Animations are still in very early stage. Just wanted to have some visuals so i could tell things are working
godspeed anon
I was also working on a fat assed creature game so your post gives me some motivation
>You are working on your passport to the gaming industry, right ?
No, I make twice as much as a game dev and I do half as much work. Plus I have way better job security and benefits.
zamn she is thick
Hmm this is interesting and I'v never noticed it. I'll take a look and report back if I find anything.
Really good eye for details. I like them running away as cats.
>Would you dislike an RPG / Card game when there is no animation?
Animations are the heart of the experience for me. They add weight to your actions.
Not a fan of the outfit, could use some work.
I agree, too bad its hdrp
>unity
>shadows on: 2.2 million tris and verts
>shadows off: 250k
is there anything i need to "fix" or is this normal?
repost because /agdg/ isn't being particularly on-topic right now
make the shadow a 2d texture
Don't use Unity
Won't change anything. Unreal doubles the triangles during the shadow pass as well and godot is for homosexuals.
>using blueprints
A white man uses raw OpenGL. Have you ever written a compiler?
invisible geometry(shadow volume) is projected from the objects, the intersection is where shadows are cast.
yeah sounds about right, especially if your camera has a low FOV. frustum culling is cutting the viewed geometry down to 250k but the shadows can't cull anything in the affected area (of each cascade), absolutely all geometry in the affected area has to rendered into the shadowmask or map, whatever they call it.
fix? well, the only real fix is to reduce the max distance of shadows. costs grow squared as you increase this distance since we're talking about an area. I don't consider reducing the number of cascades a real option because the visible seam between cascades already pisses me off using 4. not sure if it would help much any way, I've had very strange results trying to benchmark performance in editor and I never felt the motivation to make a full blown tech test build just to benchmark things realistically.
lolno, you're describing id tech 4 / old starbreeze engine. Unity does not support shadow volumes.
that's normal for realtime lights and shadows. if you want to reduce it, then bake the lighting/shadows (shadow map) to any static meshes.
or, turn off lighting altogether and create your own within the shader you're using. easiest to accomplish via hlsl shaders and some vector maths, but can be achieved in shader graph.
if you are on built-in render pipeline, you will need to upgrade to at least 2021 LTS to use shader graph.
>spoiler
is it ever?
I don't want to be part of the game industry. I just like dicking around in game engines.
I'm making my dream game in UE5. It doesn't look the way I want but it's good enough.
your dream is shit
I can't even think of a game to make.
think harder
Think about games you like to play and what you like about them. Then try making something like those games.
Then find a game and copy it.
It will improve your skills in the process.
watch films/series/books/comics that you think you'll like, it might give you ideas on what you would like to do
girl fingers typed this
Are you insinuating girls visit this hellhole?
yes, probably more than we think
I have too many game ideas but no skills. I am the epitome of the ideas man.
Can sorta relate. I have an idea for a setting/characters/plot and how it works, but cant figure out what gameplay to do right now.
Before I know how to gamedev
>ideas guy
After I know how to gamedev and actually make a nearly complete game
>Can't finish game because I have no idea what to do with the framework I laid down
i can think of two i know for sure i'm never going to see unless i make them but i need some sort of magic motivation to get me to even start learning. it's so daunting.
Of course I am!
No I’m not, I spent the last four hours of my day yesterday trying in vain to find a copy of Non-Named. I swear to God, Filler, at least release the damn design document you Canadian turd burglar.
Bruh, the search is killing me.
me watching my cute lil game stop compiling even though I didnt change anything
Didn't read, but I finished my catgirl enemy.
Meh.
This is a meh comment if I've seen one.
You outmehed me with your comment. Kudos.
They sure do come pretty close for a ranged enemy having no damage on touch. Maybe they should run away from you instead?
looks good but
>no contact damage
NTA but I don't see what's wrong with some enemies having no contact damage, especially spellcasters
What the frick is wrong with you?
contact damage sucks dick if the enemy isn't spiked/on fire
when they die can a pair of panties and bra fly off of them, as if you made them naked
Nice idea, but she's not wearing a bra or panties. If you look closely you'll notice she's commando.
To be honest it's quite hard making contact damage not feel like shit. There are plenty of contact damage hitters already so I'm not adding it.
Yeah, I haven't tweaked their behavior. I'll make them always try to stay at the edge of the screen, hiding behind other monsters. She has more of a support role than a goon that can stand for itself.
I've seen you post your game a few times and I just wanted to say I think your game looks like a lot of fun.
Also, no-contact damage > contact damage and I support your decision.
Thanks. I do find myself playing the game just for fun even though it has only like two test levels.
Why do the cats need to be killed
Cool, but the lhs icon blinks way to often.
it's going quite well indeed
Nice progress
if this has the same feel as this classic
then it's a banger
finding good sound effects is so damn hard, there's seemingly no sounds anywhere of just tires of a car on asphalt without engine noise
a bit yes, it's very easy to drift
it does
changed it to a sliding rigidbody with physics pushing
>sounds of tires of a car on asphalt
Just shake some grains or stuff in front of mic and overlay with high pitch crushing sounds.
i have sounds of gravel, i want the one where you can hear the tire sticking to the asphalt, you know? kind of a slick sound
Why not go record it?
But then he'll record the engine noise
i don't have a car, one could record it by shutting down the engine though
if you have access to a DAW or hardware synths, you can very easily make engine sounds through frequency modulation.
i want the opposite of engine sounds, just the contact of tires with various materials
can make that with frequency modulation as well. you could make any sound imaginable.
I'd actually suggest using the same source for all of your in-game sounds, they will be more cohesive that way.
if you really wanted to, you could even tune the pitch of all sounds and sound effects to match the key of whatever background music is playing. if you do this, I would suggest mixing based around the Pink Noise sound spectrum
Is there a good open source physics lib for small car game?
i assume any physics engine would work, i gave up on the idea of simulating individual wheel friction and just made the car slide around, faking the feedback motion. kenney on twitter posted an interesting idea too about using a rolling sphere with the vehicle traced to the ground.
i have fl studio all plugins but i'm just not good enough at manual audio creation
finding one source of sounds is just impossible i'm afraid, i've found like one single sound PER SITE so far, it's so hard.
you dont have to design all the sounds yourself but if you kinda want to Sytrus is honestly so powerful and you can just look up presets made by other people
How would you actually make sounds with texture though? Like driving on grass
play a separate sound at the same time in your game. driving on grass is just driving on dirt + grass sounds.
if you really must synthesize this stuff with a synth you do have to go a bit random with your midi notes.
"Grass sounds" you make it sound so easy but the only recordings I can find are of footsteps
you're in a thread of fricking morons that think "level design" is simple stuff
you should really lower your expectations of the gamedev cucks in here
Well, level design and intuitive design can be confused with each other
this guy gets it
I'm just here to laugh at you
There are sounds like that out there, and you can edit the footstep sounds to sound how you need.
If you don't know where to look or how to do that, it's literally a skill issue
Kys zigger
Footsteps are not a continuous rolling sound.
Give me the footstep sounds you like and I'll try to whip up a "continuous rolling sound" from them when I come back home, just to prove you that you're wrong. How about that? Will you still be here?
https://freesound.org/people/sillygrizzlies/sounds/635056/
Good luck. Thread will probably be dead.
>looking for sounds on freesound
There's your first problem.
Give me some good free sound sites then or cheap sound packs.
You can get a lot out of freesound if you know about sample-based synthesis.
>his engine doesn't provide runtime sound synth
unreal wins again
youre not looking hard enough.
i'll give you a few simple steps
1. go to rutracker.org
1a. make an account there
2. type in the search bar Sound Effect Libraries
3. download all the magnet links of what you think youll use.
4. wa la
now if you are looking to synthesize the sounds yourself, thats another can of worms, and i dont personally want to do that myself, but it is doable.
>just use pirated content in a commercial product
don't you think it's a bad idea
How will they prove it's pirated? Onionsard.
honorable. in that case, freesound.org will have what you need, but you will need to look harder, and you will need to manipulate whatever you get.
what sound are you actually looking to make again?
Car tires rolling on different kinds of surfaces, without engine noise or any other background sounds
define a length of time for your loop of sounds. maybe 3 seconds.
you will probably be able to find a sound for tires on dirt that lasts for 3 seconds that you can loop.
then for grass sounds you can grab sounds of grass rustling on freesound.org, and make another file with just the grass sounds. fill 3 seconds up with grass rustling sounds, make use of your DAW's different tracks to layer more than two or three together, make sure they are all at a lower volume so they can blend. fade in and fade out the ends of each clip.
I found gravel but no asphalt yet. Grass is a bit difficult since footsteps are single hits and rolling is a smooth one.
that's why you have to do some tinkering in a DAW for it
i didn't even put on my headphones to hear what this sounds like but this is what your 3 second grass loop sound file is gonna look like in a DAW
you don't want footsteps but if you must, you need to cut out the actual 'foot step' part or at the very least fade it in (like i did here)
just b urself
Alright, I'll try. Still seemingly impossible to find that rubber against asphalt though
you can try many things
>do something similar to the grass pic but with sand, or concrete, or gravel, just layer a frickton
>stretch/contract the gravel sound and then filter the frequencies to get what you want
It's not gravel. Asphalt/tarmac. The hard stuff you drive on. It doesn't make any popping noises unless there are pebbles on it. I want that squeaky sound from the heavy car driving over it.
then look for concrete
Good idea. Finding without the engine noise is hard though, but I'll do a thorough look
a lot of sound design isnt actually the real sound itself
you can just think of what sounds similar. the best fire burning sounds is honestly just crumpling paper sounds.
last resorts are
>look in youtube and youtube to mp3 them
>record something yourself
True. I just don't have much knowledge about what kinds of sounds are similar.
Ripping wouldn't have any licensing. I don't have a car nor a big ass tire, not sure what I could substitute with.
you can ask foley specialists what they do for that, maybe on reddit. im not a foley specialist, i just search for stuff myself and if i think something sounds similar enough to what i need, i take it and manipulate it to what i can use.
so if it were me, i would look for stuff on freesound like "rolling on concrete", "skidding on concrete", you may end up with things like furniture or clothing rubbing on concrete, but find enough of these and put them together or do something with them and youll get what you want
I'm not gonna pirate stuff for commercial games anon. As much as I'd love to have sound ideas library it's too expensive.
>changed it to a sliding rigidbody with physics pushing
nice
the downside is that it doesn't work on slanted surfaces, so i had to rework it to use spheres again and on those cars it feels like driving in gta 4 (original webm)
Make car body tilt backwards (lift front up) when you accelerate. Helps visualize engine power.
how did you end up solving the bouncing issue from a few days ago?
I duct taped everything, I don't know what the frick happened but it was the only way to fix the code, maybe next game I will refactor the base but now it's going to waste cycles on creating new variables, couldn't reference properly and it must be something really stupid.
>save it
>run it again
>works perfectly now
I love whatever the frick is happening, keeps me entertained
but seriously what the frick
reduced the amount of colors of foreground and background assets, also made the background darker
I can't wait for you're game it looks so good
I've been making some regular enemies for the second dungeon.

Is she drunk? Looks great btw.
I don't need to, I'm already in one of the biggest (bloated) gaming company in the world, and I entered through IT and Product Management, not as a code monkey.
Sounds painful
to you
can you tell the suits to stop making assassin's creed dogshit on purpose
That's the good company, and the worst part is that Valhalla was a smashing success, so why would they stop?
is it one of those free food places women post about on tiktok
do you get unlimited food
>Product Management
how does it feel being the designated shit smeared butthole of the company? You have no idea how many people hate you
i can't even get a mod to work, even after directly stealing code from another mod
>passport to the gaming industry
H1B?
I'm studying 3D animation at the moment. Hate shitty rigs that spazz out if I look at it the wrong way, but I also hate rigging so I can't re-rig it.
anon, my game isn't the passport into the industry, I'm making it in hopes of never having to work for anyone else ever again. wageslaving as a gamedev is still just wageslaving. the money goes to the money people, not the game making people. the creative decisions are by nepotists and people who put in 10+ years making garbage for others. and the wage itself isn't better than elsewhere in "tech", more likely worse.
frick employment, I want to keep making games on my own.
I FRICKING HATE TEXTURES
FRICK TEXEL DENSITY
FRICK UV
I DON'T CARE I'LL KEEP KITBASHING EVERYTHING
FRICK GRAPHICS
MY GAME IS UGLY SO WHAT
CRASHING THIS GAME WITH NO SURVIVOR
I'm taking a break from working on tilesets today to clean up some of my animations.
I've still got a ways to go before it looks good, but I'm happy with the progress I've made so far.
Added effect for common card and adjust some GUI elements.
Game feels a bit more alive this way.
I'm still considering simplifying the art (maybe chibi / western comic style?) so that I can animate the characters. Or maybe just making their hair/clothes float would be enough.
Would you dislike an RPG / Card game when there is no animation? There would still be effect animations for attacks and such.
that looks great anon, I think that's the effect you were going for, you can add some very slight movement to the clouds, the clouds are not moving, your eyes are becoming out of focus, same effect but higher for the subsequent layers when you make a move.
I completely forgot that I can animate some background elements. Thanks for the idea anon.
What's the vision for your game? Are you planning naything to make it different from slay the spire? Nice progress
With the current design, it's basically an StS mod with some additional flavors:
>Enemies now have a morale gauge, if they lose all morale you can pardon them (get less gold or no gold), or recruit them (this lets you add a companion card, each companion does something different but not too strong
>Companions can be leveled up at camp fire by talking to them.
>If you defeat an enemy by killing them, you will get more gold/soul (and possibly consumables) but you will gain notoriety among the corresponding faction (there are three factions). After your notoriety reaches a certain threshold, the difficulty of enemies in that faction will increase (like Risk of Rain scaling).
So for this difficulty scaling to make sense, I would allow the player to backtrack on the map and explore as much as they want (like FTL). But if they spend too much time in one act, some very strong enemies will appear and chase them down.
It's a mess of ideas right now but I hope I can make a coherent and fun gameplay loop.
The Battle for Stargazer Hill goes well, as I have implemented some bug fixes for the enemies and even began adding cutscenes between each boss in the gauntlet.
In the meantime, here’s a picture by LunaticSoda of Basileus Joseph Fygoon. I like this picture.
Holy frick the way Godot handle text in GDscript is infuriating.
This is not the same webm as a couple of days ago right? Looks great.
How does any of this happen? Not the programming but I honestly don’t understand we’re the visuals come from. I’ve watched videos and still don’t get it.
Like that attack animation does someone have to draw every frame of that?
God, drawing good looking mountain ranges is hard. On the other hand got confirmation we can make a different sprite for underwater levels so i made a first draft kind of thing.
I played your demo on itch yesterday. Good stuff, anon! Can't wait to play the whole thing
Thanks, It's going to take a while to finish but i'm glad you enjoy it.
They have implants that allow them to manifest mechanical body parts, armor and riggings via technology. Nanomachines or some other asspull I've yet to figure out.
Before time began, there was…THE CUBE!
That works, but what if, and hear me out for a sec...
Even better: make the All-Sphere manifest itself in the chicks’ breasts and asses.
So is she a cyborg or something?
Dang this shit looks good
My laptop would explode.
How do I make a game that kids would enjoy?
Make it colorful and arcade-ish?
Kids used to play subway surfer all the time but maybe that changed.
AI generated pregnant 'Spiderman and Elsa' spam.
What's a good engine for making a beat em up?
I've accepted the fact that I don't have the art skills to make the game I want to make, and I don't want to collaborate with other people.
Salary? Industry?
My game is being made by my own two hands. It's a museum of what I love and cherish in this world. The joy of creation sustains me.
I want to start a patreon, a simple $1 dollar subscription tier, but I don't know what perks to offer. Like "Hey man, here is part of the game thats not done." What to I give?
name in the credits
It's going to be a while before they get a credit.
Good suggestions, but some of those things are what I need to post on twitter to get eyes on my work. They get those things for free.
Noted. I'm starting it at 5.
Id hate to do that, but frick this economy.
After CC processing fees, patreon's fee and others you'll get around 10 cents from each paypig at that amount
$1 tier should be a tip jar. Nothing more.
Save perks for higher tiers.
I wish I knew how to program
Read, homie
A tiny playable build, some concept art, that kind of thing. WIP models
Here bro:
A computer is really a machine which performs operations information stored in memory
A computer program is a sequence of simple instructions for operating on the information stored in memory. These are typically called statements.
Statements can contain expressions (like x+1) which describe how to generate new information from existing information.
Variables are names for pieces of memory. Variable declaration statements like "int x = 1;" tell the computer to set aside some part of memory, call it "x", and pput the number 1 there. Variables can also store a bunch of values in things called structs
There are actually not very many statements which you need to know. The main ones are Variable Declaration, Variable Assignment, If Statements, and Loop Statements (while/for). Declaration makes a new variable (associates a piece of memory with a name), Assignment puts information in the piece of memory associated with a name, and If and Loop statements execute other statements if the Expression given to them evaluates to the value "True".
E.g, the following code
if (x == 1) x = 2;
Will assign the value 2 to x if x currently holds the value 1 (x==1 is true).
Loop statements (specifically While statements) are like if statments but will repeatedly execute their consequent statement as long as the condition expression evaluates to "True".
The last fundamental element I'll mention is subroutines (aka functions). Subroutines are basically just pieces of code which can be run repeatedly with differemt input values (and can be run as expressions to generate new information)
For example the following procedure returns 1 more than the number you gave it
int addOne(int x) {
return x+1;
}
Importantly you can run procedures that someone else wrote, so if you don't know hwo to draw tot he screen you can find a procedure someone else wrote and run it
Stuff like print() which prints text to a terminal for example
2/2
So really a game is just a bunch of information (storing the position of the player, what animation is playing, what the camera angle is ect) and interpreting that information to draw stuff to the screen
To learn I'd recommend either the C programming langauge because it is very small and hides nothing from the programmer, Lua because it has only one major abstraction, or Python because it is a popular beginners language and has a lot of information online
Also install gentoo
>recommending someone C
To learn, yeah. It's easy to get confused by issues like pass by value vs pass by reference, deep vs shallow copy vs clone, etc if higher level languages. C is an excellent language to learn with.
There's no better way to learn how memory managing works.
>memory managing is not important in current year
Programming is about memory managing, even if you move to other languages, the knowledge what a "structure" or, or an "object", or a "string" really is, will help you immensly with things like hunting bugs.
Also - it's still the language that almost 80% of currently running code is written and the only language that God Himself recommended us.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Any idea how to improve my equipment menu?
Right now it's way too cluttered. The problem is I'm operating within 640x480px resolution so the fonts need to be stupid big in order to be visible.
I don't know what information I should cut- they all seem pretty crucial.
Add borders around the text sections to segregate them from the inventory. It'll reduce the visual clutter
Much appreciated, I'll try out all of these.
Icons for equipment types in the slots. I have no idea what that line of 4 is for, if the sunglasses weren't there I would assume it's a hat slot not a face slot.
You're not using the bottom 10% of the screen
What would you do if your game blows the frick up, like Undertale or fnaf level
Make games full time.
You'd never hear from me again.
The exact same thing I'd do if my game flopped:
Make more games.
Buy a real doll and a fursuit for it
Couple of things.
1: Buy a van to do the van life incase my other ventures go belly up.
2:Pay off some bills
3:Reinvest into my next game and also some stocks.
3:Buy my families plot of land and some japanese farm equipment(They'ere small and compact). Start farming.
The first screen in my game. It's not really a BGA, because there won't be any characters standing in front of it.
I'd walk like an egyptian.
Maybe make the slots a little bigger and further away? You have plenty of space on the bottom of the screen.
I want to make my own studios.
- finish funding my current game
- purchase more art for my vn
- become a publisher for really cool indie titles
- create a studio to make games I like
I kind of despise those devs and notch for making so much and not investing it in games that could change viyda culture.
>- purchase more art for my vn
Just gen your art
I do not like AI art.
this
I enjoy pushing a new commit that says started X then one day seeing finished X. Just did that with wall running, and botw style climbing. About to do it again with more movement mechanics and ragdolls
Actually not a bad idea to invest some of it long term for a huge payout, but those things are a given I guess. The merch idea is a great one. I'm going to start selling stickers this year.
>I do not like AI art.
Why not?
Just not a fan of it, simple as.
If it's like a Minecraft or Prison Architect situation where I could keep updating for years, I would keep it going for a year, maybe two, then hand it over to a team and move on to new games. If not, then just use the money to make games full-time as long as possible.
I'd do the following:
1. Immediately hire a business accountant and make sure I'm putting the money in the right places to not get fricked by taxes.
2. Create official merchandise as quickly as possible, because that's where the real money is.
3. Create some kind of DDLC-style 'fan supporter pack' of digital content I have lying around, like original character sketches, unused artwork, and some 'how it's made' trivia, then sell it on Steam as DLC.
4. Quit my job and dev full time, to try to get the next part of the game out sooner.
Kill myself
become a recluse (even more) from paranoia
I'd eventually look into opening my own studio. After I get settled down.
I'd quit my current job, buy a house, a lamborghini, invest the rest and impregnate my wife. I already have ideas for a sequel to my game but I wouldn't have any regrets not releasing one ; all the best ideas are in the first one anyway
i already did all that and my game didn't blow up, what now?
I'd be surprised, then use the money for VR research.
Expand upon the IP and advocate further for UBI
Maybe help make that 'Pixel Pitch' show Asmon was on a more serious thing with even more money on the line
making a 3D action game is way too hard
>DONGURI KORO KORO, DONGURI KO
Also: Don't sweat it brother, just take steps forward untill you're there.
Can't decide on a style so remodeling the same character.
middle.
Middle one looks the best.
What's your game anon it looks pretty cool.
Right looks best
>These salaries
LMFAO. I'm so glad the "learn2code" meme is dying. The sooner this country can go back to being able to make our own shit instead of obsessing over bugman drones coding gambling apps we'll be better off for it
Would this get my game banned on Steam?
banned on steam? steam has literal porn games on it now
I thought they had a new policy that banned porn? The guy's dick wouldn't be seen in the game, just his butt.
As long as its not underage and you mark it as "nudity/sexual content" in the tags and tell steam that, I don't think its going to be an issue.
Literal Illusion Games are on steam for fricks sake for which you can download the H patch to play the sex scenes with and do some questionable things to your creations.
No such thing. And MGS2 is on steam and features the same.
Depends on the character's age, anon. When you list a game on Steam, you have to fill out a Content Survey that asks a bunch of questions like 'Does your game have gambling?', 'Does your game have positive depictions of drug use?,' and so on. Nudity is in there. I think someone at Valve looks at that data, and at your game, then decides if it's too spicy for Steam. AFAIK, they've only ever banned stuff with underage characters in lewd situations.
He's 18
It's less important what age you say he is vs what the average person thinks when looking at the character.
This game exists on steam btw, I'm not so sure about that.
> Inb4 fighter.
Yeah and there's suggested nudity and all sorts of "these days would be banned" outfits or censored at the very least.
I'm not saying having a e-girl or shota means your game gets instabanned. I'm saying that it's not just one guy in Valve who does all of the reviews, and you could get someone who thinks 'Hm, the dev said this character is 18, but she looks 13, so I don't want to approve this'.
Deathsmiles and Koikatsu are on Steam.
Deathsmiles referred to as the e-girl SHMUP. Koikatsu allows you to perve on school girls which is a huge no no for american puritans.
If that's a boy no, moral outrage is only against e-girls.
it's a boy. all the girls in the game are clothed.
does he ever get to take revenge on them in some sort of stuck in the wall scenario?
Just offer a patch with more uncensored stuff as an option. Steam doesn't care about lewd patches.
I forgot to mention that even though he's 18 some of the girls are younger. Not sure if steam would have a problem with that or not
>Not sure if steam would have a problem with that or not
They screwed over a game recently because a girl was flat.
that's not even your game, pic is from castle of temptation.

why do game dev generals attract such schizos? What's the point of larping as some random porn dev?
Trannies from /agdg/
That's why I've been saying having this thread every day will spawn trannies and schizos from /vg/.
anyone got recommendations for gamedev youtube channels?
I did a little progress.
I added the defeated character to the backgroud, and gave them a small animation.
how do I learn to 3D model cute girls?
anime tiddy lady with hands like a romanian car mechanic
slim down those pan handlers.
it's not my model unfortunately, just one that inspires me
The flat lighting is very ugly, makes it look like a cheap porn game from the mid-00s.
Flat lighting is awesome you peasant.
Ermm, big hands are actually good for readability in games with hand-to-hand melee combat
That's game design voodoo you Black person

Is this too much voodoo?

look up some video tutorials on how anime face topo is done, it's been solved since the MMD days, just follow the guides
The changing screen and first few armor sets are good to go. You only get to see this dress up "doll" during the armor changing screen (you can't freely change armor while in the world) or when you check the status screen, but it should add a bit of fun to gear collecting.

>why aren't you working on something that nobody has paid for?
Gee anon that's a great question but I'm too busy doing work that actually pays the bills to work on a pure passion project.
I haven't moved to whatever post-scarcity utopia you live in yet, but maybe one day!!!
Who's paying you to abandon everything else you worked on?
What's been abandoned? Been getting paid to work on a game these days but it hasn't brought in enough to not have to do work on the side.
Sorry, meant for
Any use VRoid?
You can create your anime-style characters, export, and use them in your game.
All free and legal.
i'm surprised more games aren't doing this, i think they're already fully rigged and everything too?
my guess is that they just look too generic for main characters that stand out.
That's nice. Thanks.
I use it for hair, I haven't found any blender tools better than vroid's hair tools. Make hair in vroid, export it with bones and weights, go into blender and fit it onto the character's head, unwrap all the hair uvs and then texture the hair in subpainter.
I think vroid is pretty crap for bodies, the faces are very samey if you don't do a lot of work and you are very limited in terms of clothing/outfit meshes. Personally I wouldn't use a vroid for a game because I'd spot it a mile off and I think others would too. However, there's shitloads of vroids on vroidhub and booth.pm if you want to see the best and worst of the JP vroid creators.
>You are working on your passport to the gaming industry, right ?
What kind of clown would want to work in the games industry? The industry where you get fired every 12 months and have to line up and try and get another job with the 2000 other people that just got fired as well
Nortubel: Did these cars.
>Game dev salaries GDoc :
holy frick those are grim poverty salaries
no wonder everything being made is pure shit now
i keep seeing my mom playing sloppy addictive mobile games so i decided to make my own sloppy addictive mobile game except fun since i have a good taste in video games
i have no other ideas for what the game will actually be though
honestly people always claim they have good ideas including me but when i try to make a game prototype coming up with ideas that i can actually achieve is the hardest part.
i can literally program anything with enough time but i just cant come up with ideas that i genuinely believe in....

I don't even want a publisher
I want creative freedom, my dream game to become a reality

unironically the best way to have full creative freedom AND release your "dream game" is to work with a publisher...but only AFTER you have proved that you can ship games because they won't throw money at you for "dude trust me"

how much money would it cost to pay people to just make the game in my head for me
you don't have to pay anyone to make a game in your head

My game is currently making ~1700 USD/month
That might not sound like a lot, but in my country USD is strong and our currency is weak af, so it covers my rent and then some.
I do everything, and my dream has always been to work with other people. I've tried maybe 7 or 8 times, and every single time it's me doing all the work and them just throwing ideas then claiming credit for everything. Lot's of "idea people" out there lol
Has anyone started without any knowledge in code? Thinking about starting in summer when I have a break from my job. Can't really dedicate any time right now (teacher training program).

Alright, Fygoon Squad, we have 2/3 of the Stargazer Hill bosses done. All that is left is Viceroy Margus and his associated animations (and the animations for the intro and conclusion for Stargazer Hill and a quick animation for the end of the Jet Sled section to explain how Fygoon and his friends arrived to this new area) and I should be able to roll out a new update.
If you couldn’t tell, I’m simply a very opinionated person. What’s the matter, did you take great offense to the fact that I don’t like pixel art or chiptune music because it has a stranglehold on the indie scene? My games may be terrible, but at least it’s something unique to look at instead of the same pixelated puke.
Pretty neat sprite, huh? It’s supposed to be my funny spaceman, but I couldn’t find this picture while making a quick post so I had to go with the next best thing.
I'm a moron i thought this was a budgie with a gun
I've been working on my game for over a year in my free time without doing any coding. Look into visual scripting stuff, anon. In Unity, you could use something like Playmaker (you have to buy it from the Unity Asset Store), and Unreal has Blueprints. Just know that if you use these visual scripting things instead of doing actual code, your options for the kind of game you can realistically make get pretty limited.
I did and I've really been enjoying learning
Stupid Godot question.
If I have several objects of the same type but with different behaviors (like visual effects), then I have to create a scene for each of them?
Because I tried to put all of them in one scene to make them easier to manage (navigate in the editor), but then each effect can not be played multiple times at different locations in parallel.
If I make each effect a scene the project would be very bloated.
no? lmao why would i be doing that. i'm working on my portfolio. getting close to 10mil now. Get fricked homosexual

Discord?
Good job on the character. It needs better, more striking clothing, looks a little uninspired for a main character.
Thanks honestly, simplicity is my moto, especially with mascots, with his hat being his main tool, I try to direct most of the focus to it. What would you add?
Yeah, ofcourse I don't put all my stock in v. But ppl tend to just be straight to the point, either "I like it" or "It looks like shit, fix this or that".
You know, he looks like PaRappa the Rapper if he was more black.
Oh yeah, he gets that a lot. But any sense familiarity isn't necessarily a negative for me.
>What would you add?
You can keep things simple and still make the figure look a little more interesting. For example looks at this Dota 2 character.
Thank you for the feedback.
The charming animations of Penniey takes her a long way, but her design is weird imo.
I think that even if people don't want to buy a 3D platformer, if the mc design is good enough they will at-least buy into the character and create avenues for success.
Memes aside, this looks incredible. I wish I could do 3d but I'm doomed to ever live in pixelshit.
Thank you! Just give it a try sometime, I'm sure it'll work out.
Oh I'm not that new, I'm here pretty often, I just can't afford to not play dumb when shilling the mascot. And I guess you're right, I dunno what kind of sauce I put in dude but ppl have made so many comments like that over the years

What does level data look like for a shmup? Is it just a listing of time / distance and what enemy needs to appear at those points? Always been confused about that.
Ok, Fygoon Squad, here’s to hoping I can finish my next update before the end of the month (I need to send the script out to my best friends so they can get me some lines and to justify their names in the credits).
I jumped back in recently, and I'm about to make a couple trees but I thought I'd ask you Black folk about the process. Back in the 1800's, in Max, I had a script to make tree limbs, so that wouldn't be hard to do, but I'm wondering about the leaves mostly. I used to use planes and then make them double sided, slap a leaf texture with alpha on it, create a spine around the branch offshoot, and put throw some around it randomly. I did it quickly, but I was wondering if there is a better way to get decent looking trees (not super realistic) in Blender? Have you fellas have a process?
There's an official blender addon that makes trees many sorts of templates and you can make your own.
nice, it makes good templates easy
im not posting till i have a progress post that will blow your noggins
>Has 10s of big names spreading the good word about the game
>Flops anyway
Well anon, how will (You) and your game prevail?
Nobody wants to play 3D platformers.
By making my main character not look like a disgusting abomination.
trans representation is important
Penny is proof that most gamers don't actually care about WHO made the game unless it's one of the two dozen celebrity-status directors. "From the team that made Sonic Mania" matters less than "Sonic" to most people.
I mean, non-franchise 3D platformers are just a hard sell. I can't even remember the last time a 3D platformer made waves that wasn't Mario or sonic.
I feel like a bunch of indie 3D platformers make waves these days, due to full 3D movement being more and more understood by small teams, but I guess if Mario & Sonic are your bar then they wouldn't touch that no. But I recall Hat in Time and Yooka Laylee both garnering a lot of attention, and these days you have Pseudoregalia, Toree 3D, Corn Kidz, etc.
The last one I played that I really liked was Spark the Electric Jester 3, but that's just because it's an actually good 3D sonic game.
The Crash remakes got alot of attention but then Crash 4 flopped.
Game artstyle looks dated in a bad way. I know they chose it on purpose but the screenshots on steam look really bad.
The artstyle was meant to reminiscent of classic Sonic Team 90's pop art.
I want to avert my eyes, not play that.
>Only 90s kids care about it
>Even so the in-game artstyle of sonic games are completely different from the pop art
Yeah sorry.
>how will (You) and your game prevail?
I've no fricking idea.
My game has a bunch of different game modes, and this turn based JRPG battle is just one of them. I think if I get it working, it could be decently fun, but unfortunately I'm an even worse programmer than I thought. The code is so horrifyingly bad, and I don't know if I can improve it at all. I may end up having to scrap this game mode.
no, I'm working on digging myself even deeper into poverty and my first stroke
so III is coming up and is sponsored by steam but how the hell were you supposed to sign up???
30 wishlists, up from 29 ^-^
I can't make my game until Jonathan blow releases his programming language and finally fixed game programming forever
is that before or after he learns to play video games himself lmao
He'll release his programming language just as soon as he beats Elden Ring (without a guide)
AKA never.
I'll make a game when I hit the lotto. I'm the ideas guy and will make sure the game runs great, feels great, and sounds great. It will also be a passion project since I don't need the cash, and I'll use every opportunity to shit on suits and shareholders of every AAA company during interviews.
I implemented some basic diplomacy in my FTL-like, you can now foster wars which have some small consequences so far like not seeing the two species work together in ships in their own territory.

>Compliments the idea behind the core mechanic
I'm really doing it.
>having friends
what's your secret
Im not sure what specifically I want to do
I know I want to try to make a game but I dont know shit about coding
Right now Im learning how to animate in Blender which has been a ton of fun
But if coding goes to shit I can at least keep using my Blender skills for other stuff, Fan animations, maybe porn or something
>blender
Start using geometry nodes, it will teach you coding.
there's so much hard boring work to finish a game that isn't just making it
i wish i wasnt solo
My game is going to come out, I promise. Just a few more months of work and it will be ready. You just have to wait, okay? Just wait, please!!! I promise it's coming out!!
Mine too bro. Is yours a JRPG too?
No. I hate weeb stuff.
ngmi
Ah, another westerntrash troony dev. Not to rub salt in the axewound, but your game idea is as rotten as the stench between your legs, homosexual.
>create some furries assets
>hardly any engagement
>create one human girl

huh, guess furshit really is niche
not anymore
obnoxious furry c**ts give internet shitposters a skewed idea of how few furries there really are in the world
Bro learned the Untitled Adventure dilemma.
How do I make furries?

I'm going to end up using AI to make my game soundtrack because I can't find a composer that can make the sound I want.
Same but with code
is AI advanced enough where I can feed it some mp3s and it gives me a new song based on that already?
i dont know how good AI is for music at the moment, but the last time i checked its pretty horrible.
t. composer
https://app.suno.ai/song/da3e0cd5-fc46-4271-bab3-7caf8a8b3ac1/
this is actually pretty good. gotta wonder how it did this
They sound pretty decent but all of the songs made by this app has that same "noisy" sound to them.
They will probably improve in the future though.
The only thing that is not possible is you can't create a coherent album yet.
>all of the songs made by this app has that same "noisy" sound to them
AI voice generations tends to be like that.
>The only thing that is not possible is you can't create a coherent album yet.
To be fair, even real musicians struggle with making "coherent" albums.
How do I get a work ethic
I want to make game but its a lot more fun to lay in bed after my day job and think about my game instead
Seconding.
You stop thinking about the bigger scope and instead focus on getting one or two smaller tasks done each day, slowly building the game up to how you want it to be. It's not foolproof though, as I find myself procrastinating and not getting anything done in some days.
Do a little bit of work on the game every day. Even if it's just a small task of making some placeholder art, do it. Be it 30min, an hour, or two hours, you just need to make it a habit to work on the game.
very cool
Ngl, even the best paying game companies in the UK can't offer more than some mid range investment bank, which also has some prestige to it.
In such a situation, why the would anyone want to work for a game developer willingly? Unless they REALLY love video games, that is.
Nintendo is lucky because they can afford to pay their employees a lot and also have a good social standing
Need some help brainstorming.
Currently I've a system to create timber frame buildings (Like in the picture) dynamically, all the individual timbers are generated according to the building size and some rules (Such as distance between posts or bays etc). But they're not added in any realistic order (For example all the corner posts are added through a loop first etc). Now I'm trying to "animate" the construction of the building.
Either I have to reorganize the entire setup so that each individual piece is added in the correct order, which feels needlessly complex or I have to add them to an array and then resort them according to some rules, but I'm unsure how. anyone have any ideas or tips how to go about this?
Sort them by like west - north - height
I can only draw and not even that good at it either, i don't think i can get into this industry with just drawing skills
If your style is distinct enough and you're involved with a successful game it's possible
is this distinct enough ?
sure
now you just have to make a successful game
i wanted to learn programming but always had a bad time learning it, where should i start and which engine is good for making 2d games
gamemaker is best for 2d. what kind of game do you wanna make
metal slug but heavy focus on mechs and boss fight
sounds cool, are you good at pixel art too?
but yeah gamemaker would be best and you can dev on it for free until its time to export it for the world
im ok at drawing 2d, just started doing pixel art a few days old
Godot or Unity probably
Cool oversized transplant arm
Imagine the handjobs...
This reminds me a bit of that one Soviet space cartoon.
>there are "people" out there who struggle with sound design and level design
Fricking really? The single two most no-brainer things about game dev and you struggle with that?
Level design is one of those things that it's easy to just make some area to move around in, but to actually make it interesting or more fun to play through can take a bit of iterating on the design.
let me guess, your game is either extremely simple or you just have low standards for games
If the design of levels in your game doesn't come easily and naturally to you, then you have designed a terrible game and shouldn't be making games at all.
I don't understand the level design pipeline at all. It seems like I should block out in BSP and then do some arduous task of remodelling everything as static meshes and tediously importing everything and hope the collisions don't break and and
surely there's a less tedious workflow than that, seems lame
Those are some dismal looking salaries. You’d have to be underage or a pajeet to think $90k, in California of all places, is good pay.
Christ almighty Godot's documentation is fricking ass
I'm fighting the engine more than I'm writing the game
>I'm fighting the engine
just means you're doing it wrong, this is never a good sign
that's what happens when you pick an engine from a company that doesn't make games with it
Your opinion doesn't matter.
mattered enough to respond tho?
this is not a matter of opinion, just plain common sense
of course the company that actually uses their own engine will make a better engine
not how it works
again, any game of any complexity warrants more than a simpletons intuition
either your game is simple or your design is just not as good as you think
>complexity warrants more than a simpletons intuition
Videogame levels are not as complex as atomic collider microsystems. A basic adjusting of your level to be fun is enough. As it seems, 95% of people aren't capable of even that.
>As it seems, 95% of people aren't capable of even that.
and you're part of those 95% until you can prove otherwise by posting you level design
which you're not confident enough to do I assume?
I don't gain anything to prove stuff to the likes of you. But if you're willing to wait (which I am certain you're not), I'll come back later with examples, I cannot post anything at this time.
I'm always hanging around here, I'll see it if you dare to post
What is Unity’s problem? I feel like they constantly introduce new features just to abandon them. I don’t need twelve different systems for setting up a character controller. Also, why dont terrain trees support mesh colliders? I refuse to believe that would take more than a day to implement, especially when I found a way to do it through spaghetti code and spite.
And whatever happened to DOTS? They were shilling it so hard a few years ago and now its just another piece of abandonware.
>4 hours of meetings today
Gamedev time. The free time is pretty much the only good thing that ever came out of scrum.
I wish I could still do this
Kind of a bad idea not to pay attention when you're the lead dev
Sorry, brother. But at least you're getting paid well. I mean, if it was important I'd pay attentnion, but it's yet another "meeting that could be an email"TM.
Scrum works fine if you actually follow its rules/guidelines
(which a lot of companies won't do cause reading is haaard).
>it wasn't real scrum, real scrum has never been tried
I'm sorry, brother. I am sure you have legitimate reasons, but I never seen scrum doing anything good for anyone.
The only version of scrum that came remotely close to being benefitial was when my team didn't have a scrum master for half a year and me and my buddy just did the scrum master antics for shit and giggles and we only did the parts of it that we deemed benefitial.
Then they hired a new lady, she threw everything we established to trash, started wasting our time, snitched on everyone in the office for literaly anything and only served to disintegrate the team.
>women are terrible bosses
and water is still wet.
protip: just do whatever you want, blow sunshine up her ass and if found out tell her she was agreeing with it the whole time and ask for forgiveness. Then do it all over again.
I can't do it. I cannot be a dishonest ass licker.
Part of the reason why I do gamedev. I want to be my own boss.
>Then they hired a new lady, she threw everything we established to trash, started wasting our time, snitched on everyone in the office for literaly anything and only served to disintegrate the team.
So why did you let her?
Games have wizards but not magicians.
what's the difference?
Wizards perform mystical magic, arcane stuff.
I can shit out pixel assets but I can't commit to any idea. By the time I have a few done up for one I start making more for another. Maybe I should just cobble it all together for a very strange DoL ripoff with a bit more depth.
post your work
What do you want to see? I got human boys and monsters
just like random assets, trees and shit
We are all going to make it if some hikikomori can do it:
I just might have recreated that old game map feeling, just needs a few more decorations
No. I'm making a VN
brother... what engine?
Ren'py. more like CSP since I spend more time trying to draw backgrounds and sprites than actually writing... haha...
That's why I only laid out the plot idea to the writter and dedicated myself to the assets, like you.
He's going to present me with "something" today. Let's hope it's good.
Lol I'm the opposite. Shit artist but I write so fricking much.
Why don't you want to write it yourself? I find it to be the most fun part.
1. I'm an ESL, and don't want people laughing at my game instead of because of my game.
2. Delegating some work to others is an essential skill you need to have if you want to lead a game making team. So I want to practice that.
3. He's a much better writer than me.
4. I still have the last word and control what makes into the game.
5. Saves me time to draw the frickton of BGAs and CGs I need to draw. (Takes me more than a week to do a fully colored full body shot).
That makes sense. I guess I'm too much of a perfectionist and want to do everything myself. Sure slows me down obviously but I still feel good about it. I'm an ESL too but who cares, not like many people will buy it.
What kind of VN are you making? I really want to make some plotge but for now I'm practicing with simple dating stuff.
Well, it's kind of a comedy-romance mashup, but focused on comedy more. So I guess it's a kusoge VN.
Can't really say much now, you'll see later on if you stick around.
As for the plot - I can't help you much, but I hope you get good inspiration. Look at Fate though - it has its plot and lore that autists know by heart, but everyone cares aobut it, because girls in the first porn game were cute and pleasantly autistic.
If you make girls cute and waifuable, the dialogues are not bad, and the jraphic style is easy on the eyes - plot will only be a vessel for the characters to do fun stuff in different situations.
Look at Comedia Del Arte, or the old comedy shows like Allo Allo - they just put fun and very contrast characters that we love in different situations and the jokes write themselves.
Well I hope your VN will be fun then. Do you have a code name you can share so I can recognize it when it releases? And maybe some art of one of the girls or something if you don't mind, I'm curious.
Well this one is most likely getting a recolour, but I am pretty happy with lineart and design.
Also you can catch me in these threads easily. I usually make them on the weekends.
Also I keep giving him good ideas to include and I imagine that looking at the draft we'll be able to figure out some cool gags as well.
I'll refine it later.
I'm making gib chunks for my shooting game
>Graduate as a designer
>Been building my portfolio for years
>Have several award winning designs
>Games I've made are extremely well received
>Despite all this, still can't get a junior role in an industry that pays about the same as working in a shoe factory
Some days I forget all about that and it's a good day. Other days I remember I'm basically grinding for the opportunity to make pennies and it makes me feel like hanging myself.
the industry is completely scuffed and it seems like you know how it is.
Absolutely. I've been to my fair share of expos, meetups, conferences etc and the only happy people there were the CEO's. I notice people generally fall into 1 of 3 categories:

Zero industry experience. Generally looked down on by everyone. Massively comprised of students who would suck dick just for their name to be put in an AAA title's special thanks credits. Young and stupidly optimistic. Still thinks devs earn a quadrillion dollars a year. Inquires about going jobs are entirely ignored.
>"Made it" gays
Works for a studio. This encompasses people who pull 9 to 5s all the way to one off contracts. Sticks with their circle as their only interest is progressing in their company. Generally hates everyone except CEO's. God forbid you meet a sound designer in this category or a social media manager. Will probably be fired by the end of the year. In the "inner circle" list of workers companies call up for jobs. Won't EVER tell you what they're working on or have made in fear of getting fired.
>CEOBlack folk
"Owns" the studio (sold out to Tencent). Will happily wear a $14,000 suit to an expo while their employees wear dirty oversized shirts. Probably owns a lambo or a ferrari, will still tell you how poor the industry is doing lately. Congregates with other CEO's about their upcoming parties. Doesn't even know what jobs are open, will defer you to a manager who is piss drunk under a staircase vomiting chunks of vegan cheese. Will openly tell you what game they're working on, will even take out their phone and let you play. Will probably leave their studio and make a new one, adding a few new zeroes onto their own paycheck.
I myself don't want to really lump myself into being corporate. I've done my share of inhouse work. I want to make my own work nowadays, but it's difficult to really do something on your own.
It's tough to know what people want, it's tougher to make something they'd want and it's even tougher to sell it to them. It's just so damn hard to win these days.
it doesn't even matter what other people want
I cant even make what I want
Post games?
at this point you should just start your own studio, make your own game then rally troops and support. Sounds equally as possible as getting a soul crushing job in the industry.
>Lost in the woods? Frick it, build a house.
Hell yeah brother. Build a house, hunt down the stag and impregnate that weird cryptid monster girl who was attracted by the smell of your cooking.
A warning sign means someones already married an alligator woman.
God, I wish this was me.
They sound good, especially the Touhou one. Well done.
Think about what I've said. I don't know if I get the rights, but if I will, I might comission you, if you have the time. After all we're all on the same wagon ITT.
Because I've been running away from every time any social group has been turning against me. Social version of learned helplessness - painfully exploited by the worst kind of people who bring themselves up by bringing others down. However I am getting better.
Also - they pay was not worth the struggle. My current job pays almost twice as much.
What title, brother?
Title is Loathful and it's on steam.
You guys never worry some crazy person on Ganker will stalk you or make your life hell somehow?
*blocks them*
And then they find your address and send you dead birds by mail.
I can't really think of anything he would be able to do, that some schizos you can meet while going to the store wouldn't. And I won't stop going to a store, because some junkie might stab me.
Gonna check it out, thanks!
Not really, and even if that's something that is technically possible i'd rather take the 'risk' than having regrets about not doing it.
Is playing games in your game's genre a good idea? As in, seeking out lesser-known ones with good reviews, not just the obvious examples that I've already played before. I've already gotten a baseline playable build so I'm not just trying to take mechanics, I just want to see what common trends are, notice the little things in regards to presentation, or to see what doesn't work. Makes sense to me but I wonder if I'll railroad myself too hard by doing so.
It's a good idea, but like you said as long as you can keep yourself in check.
Have to keep an open mind while doing it and not fall for personal biases or habits.
SUDA 51 told us that for some of his games (specifically killer 7) he completely shut himself from all media influence for months to create something that truly came from himself.
Now if you want to follow something like that depends on your creative goals. He also wasn't alone working on that project, as a solo dev you might need to look around to learn how things are made
If you're not in your early 20's why in the frick would you want to work in the industry instead of on your own stuff
These two are what I'm thinking.
I went into gamedev this year, because I want to be my own boss and create my own thing, and eventually make a gaming studios and make cool shit and see it prosper. Why would I do all this work just so I can work in an exploative industry, when I already am?
>Got two downloads today
>Got 910 views
>Got a new follower at 2:00 AM
Yep, Fygoon Squad stays winning. Kudos to you guys.
Might take some time off today since I need to make my sister a Mother 3 gift for her birthday later this month (frick whoever thought they could release the plush toys in May, they ain’t getting my money.) It’ll be a clay model or something IDK.
>he's making it
Indeed I am. But you know what? We’re all gonna make it.
pwease play my demo
https://untouch.itch.io/heroes-for-hire-alpha-demo
I gotchu. Lemme throw on some pants and I’ll get on it.
Although I am not a good business strategist, I like the concept of the game. Just a note: 12 PM is not midnight, that’s 12 AM.
>check the google sheet
>the highest audio-related pay out of all respondents doesn't even break 50k
lol
anyway, finished a new track, give it a listen if you'd like

and an older touhou inspired one too

HIRE ME NOW AAAAAAAAA
50k is great pay what are you on about
I'm sure I'd be happy with it, it's just that most of them make half of that and it's without a doubt the category with the lowest average pay
oh ok that's fair, would need to live in a really cheap city
Could you do a sentimental synthwave/city pop arrangement of an already existing song?
I am trying to get the set license for it, but I still have to get someone to make the music and some e-girl to sing it, because it doesn't allow me to use the recording itself.
I mean, I could, but what are you trying to use this for?
I like the first one coming all out at you.
The second one is classy. Makes me nostalgic. Well done.
Do you still work on these, or are they all set and done?
My game is going to draw inspiration from a piece of media that's associated with a few songs that everyone knows. I am trying to inquire whether I can buy the rights to use the composition of the least popular one (others are propably way too expensive), and record my own version to use as my game's main theme.
>Do you still work on these, or are they all set and done?
If upload them they're usually done
I tired making snake In python but it won’t open and show a game screen. Spent 2 days trying to make a game window open and nothing worked so I stopped.
Sucks I never know if I’m fricking up something so basic that no guide even bothers covering or my tools are broken since I have a jury rigged computer where every program on it is pirated.
Picrel is a joke right
When Ganker came to be, you immediately saw, especially on /b/, the massive pool of people out there and where they stand. Whereas you might have been a loser nerd in college, you then realize that there is way, way, way worse out there. The saving grace was anonymity. Who was the poop knife guy? Who was the "think hard GROW" manlet? Who was the kidnap-drunk-girl-and-feed-her-eggs guy? Nobody knows.
Twitter, to some extent, attracted similar people and gave them a voice. The only difference is that it filtered a few extreme cases while keeping in the fringe in their own echo chamber.
Is picrel a joke? Certainly not. A lot of people are paralyzed by failure and this is one of those. I have seen it all over universities.
At least feel good that you are doing something whereas others are doing absolutely nothing or worse: selling faceless dice as a free-win for their dwindling ego and fragile insecurities.
Use Linux, problem solved.
Your game literally gets better daily. Keep it going brother.
I feel like I should replace the modern skyboxes with some old ass low res gradients, would probably fit better
do you feel it in the air
making weird ass easter eggs like old ps1 era games used to have feels crazy
Anyone got tips on making combat fun?
Make it feel like you’re actually killing someone with the visuals, feedback, and sound.
>There are six downloads for my game today
I didn’t even add big tiddy girls in this time, what gives?
I make $166k 9 years experience in the most right wing industry left in America, why would I take a pay cut to write code for gay esg propagandists?
I'm going to have to make a 3D model so I can draw a fricking sprite correctly.
Does your game have cool tricks?
My game uses Physics to drive a ball around and inadvertently, the restitution can be used to do a high jump upon landing. So that's a secret tech.
Game came out 2 days ago now. Pretty good reviews so far and a few youtubers / streamers plalyed it. Now i have to fix some of the issues and work on something else
