You become the last character you played as and must beat their respective game

But you don't get their abilities or anything. It's just you, with your own capabilities, going against the challenges of that game. Can you do it?

For me: RE2. I think I would get past the police department, but after that the game becomes bullshit and there is no way I am surviving it.

You think you could survive the lickers?

Yeah just move silently. The whole problem with lickers is people have too much ADHD to do it patiently, but it'd be easy if your life is on the line. Also if I take my boots off I can practically run silently in socks, it'd be even easier than it is for Leon.

You could pick up a bunch of shit and throw it around the room to lead him away and then make it to the door. I've a feeling the biggest problem would be IRL Mr.X who would be faster and harder to get away from.

              Anonymous

For this scenario I am assuming that the game's enemies and the level itself are still "gamey" and play out exactly like in the game. The only one playing by IRL rules is (you). It'd be very easy to avoid Mr. X and even most zombies.

Your idea of throwing shit works but from what I remember that area also gets absolutely overrun with zombies. Maybe if you save shotgun ammo and with a bit of luck it is doable but it's a super risky situation.

                Anonymous

Oh that makes sense. Still, I feel Mr.X would be the biggest threat because over this long night I doubt he'd have trouble bamboozling you when you're out of breath. And his second phase, while not hard in game I feel would be difficult irl because you'd quickly get tired jumping sideways from his running attacks.
Then again I run like Sebastian from evil within because my heart is shit and starts exploding after 10 seconds of sprinting so I dunno, maybe your average guy could outrun the X. That'd just leave various Birkin phases and X 2.

The average person should be able to jog for several hours non-stop. Leon's jogging speed is hilariously slow, most people would be faster than him. If you play RE2 a lot you already know where everything is. The biggest problem would be aiming your gun at the heads of the zombies. Mr. X is not a problem if you know the routes

                >The average person should be able to jog for several hours non-stop.

Would be easy to avoid given their dumb AI. You just need to move strategically, take them down and board windows to stop them from spawning. I played RE2 several times and memorized the routes and enemy spawns, no zombie would surprise me.

Playing a game is different from being in one. You're assuming they wouldn't react dynamically to you. If you can react dynamically, so can they. It just takes one bad moment for your run to be ruined.

              Anonymous

I am the OP so I set the rules. The crux of this challenge is that the game's assets still act gamey, (you) are the only one playing by IRL rules and being able to react on your own accord.

Any other scenario would make zero sense. If you buff everything to IRL standards and take away the main character's abilities anything becomes impossible. At the same time if you gave yourself all of the powers of the MC then everything is possible. My scenario is a fine balance that leaves room for discussion

Ignoring the fact you are ignoring the weight and strenght needed to tackle stuff and 100% you are overstimating your speed. The moment a hunter drops you are dead.
Lets not even talk about the tyrant who moves at superhuman speeds and cant be tackled.

Since you are skinnyfat irl, must also mean you are weak minded. You would die against the third or fourth zombie.

Do I become athletic, or normal, at least? I can't climb up walls, or even lift up a weapon. I'm 50 kilograms. There are guns, crossbows and poison darts, I could do it.
I mean, it depends on whether or not the game is just a game, or a realistic world where I can talk to people, interact, and use objects and methods that aren't present in the game. There's a slim chance. Because you're the master of an assassin private army. You can order them to kill someone immediately, or aid you in a fight. They're always around, lurking, awaiting your orders. So I'd have bodyguards.
As long as the parkour sections are optional. There are tombs that are basically prince of persia levels, it's very fricked up, and you'd need superhuman reflexes. They are not optional, I don't know what I'd do about them. I could send my students to do them for me.
Also, the story actually lasts years, maybe five-ten years, and there are some seasoned assassins there, so they could actually train me and teach me parkour, and I'd have time to work out. I'm very weak.

The game's npcs and objects are still gamey, but you are bound by IRL rules and can indeed use methods not present in the game like picking stuff up that can't be picked up normally or going through what would be an invisible wall in the game.

Well, I might be able to handle it if I'm very careful. My assassins are basically a kill button, you point, and the guy dies, that's OP.
So if it's gamey, I can use heals and shit, right?
Making money is very easy, and there are completely OP healing salts that you can carry up to 25 with upgrades, but if it's like the real world, I can just stuff them into my pockets. They heal any wounds immediately after you sniff them. I might actually fricking do this. It's like having 25 lives, but I can have more.
The game also has guns, a crossbow, and darts, they're all one-hit kills and require no real skill to use. I can just carry a lot of ammo on me, and give additional ammo to my students, use them as pack mules, as well as instruct them to use ranged weapons like me, it would be OP.
The game also has merciful stealth, as long as you're in a crowd, you're invisible to enemies.

The game also has merciful stealth, as long as you're in a crowd, you're invisible to enemies.

Also, there's no time limit, so I can actually stay and train for years to become an actual assassin. There is a bit of a race, the templars are after six keys to open a vault. They already have one, but they can't open it without all of them. So I can just capture 2-3 keys and keep them hostage while I train, and just find the rest after 10-20 years, when all my students are master assassins (OP rank, they're unkillable killing machines)
Also, if it's gamey but realistic, I can actually hire as many assassins as I want. You basically own Constantinople in the game after a while, by buying all businesses and landmarks, so I can actually raise a fricking army and just kill everyone openly with swarms of assassins.
And in the game, you CAN actually hire up to, I don't know, 70-100 of them, and command like 13 to send to different cities, but you can use like 7-8 at a time in a battle, but that's a game restriction, so if I have 100 assassins, I should be able to use them. And fricking hell, in the game, there is no threat 100 assassins can't handle. That's too much, I think 20 is more than enough. I can just hide in a haystack (undetectable) while my boys do the work, then come out.
Frick, and there's this hot milf in the game, that becomes your wife, I'd frick her
      I'd frick my students, too

There IS a fricking sequence where you're dragged by a fricking carriage on a rope, but Ezio's the one who grabs the rope to chase the target. He's not getting anywhere, we're in a small town. Also, since this is realistic, but gamey, I can sequence break and kill him with a pistol.
But if he runs away, it's fine, he's not going to escape, right? He's still an NPC, and will go to the tower, where I'll get him.
Thankfully, the CRAZY part where Ezio fights like 20 guys solo and then gets hanged, but slips the noose on the guy, jumps like 10 meters and lands is the first cutscene where you don''t have control yet, so I won't be doing that.

This thread made me think. There are some interesting tech concepts we can't conceptualize yet. I think with algorithms (AI) and actual AI, and some breakthrough, we could actually have a going into games machine, maybe create whole VR games on the fly, or rewrite existing games, old games, like PS2-3 games into VR games with AI, and actually visit them in our VR room, full-dive VR, smells, maybe touch.
I think we'll see something like this before we die.

I think people loosely refer to it as a horror series but it is not one, in the same way they also refer to it as a zombie series despite the fact none of the games have a single zombie. If you look into any in-depth discussion of the series all the fans should promptly tell you it isn't that scary (outside of some games like Biohazard). It's more of an action TPS puzzle series.

I don't think the games "should have been" anything in particular. CAPCOM experimented and the games became very distinct from each other, and in fact the new games are still experimenting, Village has nothing to do with 7 which has nothing to do with 6 and so on. I'm very happy with this and I'll be happy with whatever they do in the next entry regardless of whether they make it scary or not, so long as it is fun.

survival horror and horror are different genres.
Survival horror is about inventory management and puzzles, and managing your theoretically limited supplies like ammo and health items.

Theoretically because every single survival horror I've ever seen has way too many bullets and healing items.
When I ran trough re2make I killed every single enemy and still had bullets left.

The game has rubber banding difficulty. If you are low on ammo you'll find more of it. If you save ammo you stop finding it. No reason to save ammo in that game.

                They did it wrong then.
rubber banding is supposed to make the game harder if I'm having an easy time, and instead by giving me more ammo that I can use to permanently clear enemies out; that just makes the game way too easy.

It's a tough situation. RE is the type of game that can be played in very different ways. Some players will dodge the zombies and only shoot when necessary (which is how the game is meant to be played imo), others will shoot every zombie. The game can't just have you run out of ammo because then you run a chance of getting softlocked. Unfortunately the only solution is to give the player effectively infinite ammo.

It is worth keeping in mind that the game is scripted so that you (almost) run out of ammo at the beginning of the game. So players start with the notion that ammo is scarce. Considering that the game won't give you ammo when you already have a lot of it, this notion is reinforced as players progress and notice they haven't been finding any ammo. What I mean to say by all this is that the game's adaptive difficulty works well for 90% of the playerbase, it only fails for the autistic 10% that purposefully exploit the system.

I think the problem is that the enemies are limited. They should have the zombies respawn periodically except in the places you are allowed to close with the shutters.
The reason I ended up making the game easy was that I noticed enemies didn't respawn.

I mean technically if you yourself weren't moronic enough to bring the Marker back to the surface of the planet, your options are
      >put on your engineer helmet and space all of the dumb frickers on the kellion, turn around, leave
      >immediately make a beeline for the bridge and take an escape capsule, preventing that moron hammond from spacing a necro and infecting the military ship that will come save you

I think the Valor was either out of the loop or moronic considering they cracked open an escape pod with a window, visible necromorph inside
once you start getting into the "massive conspiracy theory earthgov trying to make everyone ascend to the brethren moons" you're in a completely unrecoverable failstate

This begs alot of questions. I still get Leon's guns and equipment right? In that case it's pretty much just survive re2, it's not like Leon has any special abilities. Even in 4 he's just good with a knife and has fast reflexes. The ff7 rebirth demo was the last game I played, am I still able to use material or does that count as Cloud's ability? It's not really unique to him, just the world.

      Anonymous

      >I still get Leon's guns and equipment right?
Yes, you get the perks of being a police officer meaning the uniform and the gun.
      >it's pretty much just survive re2, it's not like Leon has any special abilities
I mostly agree but boss fights in RE are superhuman bullshit, and there are lots of segments that are way above my physical capabilities especially in the later half of the game.

But that's boring. Any experienced gamer would clear this hypothetical. No challenge involved.

Anon you realize you are not getting Leon's athletic capabilities? You don't have the strength to replicate Leon's feats, and if you can't find a way to pull them off through wits or abusing game mechanics it is game over.

        Anonymous

        >It is game over.
If it's structured like a game, it's doable. It feels like you just made this op to suck yourself off with this "lol I clear this game easy". It's either like a game or it's like real life. None of this artificial in between shit. Plus a majority of the anons can't even participate in this thread given they don't have magical powers or augmentations. Useless.

          Anonymous

But if you also had the mc's abilities what would be the point of the thread? Of fricking course it is technically possible to beat a game if you are a 1:1 replica of the person that canonically beat it.

Yes, it will be impossible for some games, it will be very easy for others and for most it will be worth debating. This is better than the other two extreme scenarios you proposed where it is either always impossible or always possible. If you don't like this you're welcome to create your own thread with your own rules.

        Anonymous

Wait, so we aren't constrained to the game rules, but everything else is?

Could we theoretically just climb over the birkin 1 fight stuff and jump right into the PD at that rate? Or do we have to follow the game rules SOMETIMES?

Alright, hold the fricking phone op, you moron. Am I them but without their skillset, or am I myself entirely? Whether or not I inherited my character's physiology and physique is going to make a massive difference in how well I survive DaS2.

You are inheriting the character's occupation, position in society and relationship with secondary characters. So, in the RE2 example, you are still a police officer with uniform, gun and flashlight. But you don't inherit your character's athletic abilities or magical abilities, you need to make do with whatever you are capable of doing IRL right now.
