I think XIV does a great job at giving raiders food while also giving things for everyone else.
This game IS about raiding. Never get fooled about this. The MMO portion of it, at least, is 100% about raoding - classes are balanced for the raids, the learning curve of Savage is fricking fantastic, and every single system is part of the gearing treadmill to get you through the Savage gear and i to your BiS for the next Ultimate fight.
The crucial thing is that CBU3 also knows how to make fun casual content that either serves to this raiding scene or just exists compentently outside it. And Ishikawa is a good writer that can carry the glorified VN portion of this game on her back if needed.

I'm still waiting for the story to get good, whatever gameplay there is, for the most part, hardly qualifies as gameplay. Talk to a person, move to a place marked on the map (half of the time by teleporting), possibly press 123123 (no danger of dying), repeat. The amount of thought required for these tasks nears zero. It's a borderline VN, except with menial tasks. There is no MMO in sight, at best you have chat rooms.

The MSQ indeed isn't the MMO portion of XIV, and I agree it is closer to an MMO.
Unless you're willing to build/find a group to raid the old stuff as you go through the quests, but that's probably more trouble than it's worth.

If you're tackling the raid as a ultra sweaty neckbeard, you're doing it wrong. You're supposed to clear the tier around 6.3, to be BiS for the next Ultimate.
If you ARE going to go sweaty neckbeard, then go all out. Clear the fight on multiple roles. Get one of each role BiS'd out. Purple parse the fights. If you wanna just raid all day every day, do so.
You'll also soon have the Criterion Dungeon to tackle with your early BiS if you do so, and IT will also probably be a months-long effort.
You also have the Hydaelyn, Zodiark and Endsinger mounts to farm.
There's a lot of content in this patch, even outside of the Island Sanctuary which I understand is not for everyone.
Midcore in reality takes way more time than sweaty raiding because you spend months with morons who can't learn mechs. Better smash out the raids in 2 weeks with good players.

Between this, and the raid prep - grinding your tomestones with your Experts daily, gathering and crafting supplies or the gil to buy them, etc - you're looking at 6 to 8hs of gameplay a week easily. Over a month, it's the lenght of an average JRPG, a d that if you're really set on yiur autistic ways to only engage with raiding.
Sounds like a lot of entertainment value for 15 bucks.

It will take you days to get enough for the good stuff.
Progression is time-gated too which makes it even more of a drag.

You get 3 of them and the higher rank you are the more you get from in-demand handicrafts.
You can easily get over 1k a day from keeping all 3 of them running at tier 2. Once you get them to tier 3 I think that's when you start making the real money.

The worst part of party finder for fights like these is having to jump from group to group where people want to do different stuff.
Last night i progged for 4 hours and I was in 12 different party finder groups by the end of it. Half wanted to do boss relative positions, others wanted to do true north. Half wanted fix positions for spreads, others wanted dps to adjust. Thats the part that gets people, you have to sort of re prog every time you go into a new group but people don't accept that idea so they leave after 2-3 wipes which just exacerbates the problem

If you're not completely socially dysfunctional, you can use PF to craft your own, better PF. Prioritize subbing for established statics, get into raiding discord servers, consider building a linkshell with people you enjoy raiding with in the PF. Slowly you'll be able to build a pool of competent peoplw you can go "hey, gonna hit up X fight, wanna tag along?"
Another important skill is learning when to bail from a trap party - and, if you're party leader, when to kick underperformers.

Get as many workshops as you can, those bring money. I like grinding gathering nodes around the time I'm expecting buildings to finish upgrading or building since you can really blow through the early ranks. It's nice to work on getting the rare animals too

One of my pet peeves in this game are mechanics with debuffs that you have to mouse over to get an explanation of how they work, especially if it's a ton of words to read in a short duration like here.
It wasn't difficult my first time doing it but it takes me out of the game because it doesn't feel like an organic tell. At least they added those rings in case you try to go out you get a reactive way of learning if you go too far.
