If magic existed IRL, yeah I'd be interested in at least trying it. But magic isn't real, so that's irrelevant. The only IRL options are expensive not just financially but also in terms of side effects and the social cost of trying to erase your previous identity; is mostly non-reversible; and after all that will still almost never lead to a satisfactory result anyway. I don't think there's anything wrong with being curious about what life is like experienced from the other side and playing around with that in video games and such when the only IRL method of exploring that is so costly and full-committal that it should only ever be considered by the most desperate of the desperate.
