>thematically, maybe, just maybe, Bioshock 1 had the better plot >Bioshock 2 did the "dad" narrative years before Infinite or TLOU >better gameplay than 1 and even harder with wanting to set up shit ahead of encounters
No idea why 2 isn't considered a major classic these days.
Games press put the first one on such a pedestal that when a genuinely better game came along they couldn't comprehend it, so they wrote it off as greedy devs trying to cash in on their critical darling.
And that's fricking bullshit. 2 maybe in a gameplay perspective has a weaker premise than 1, but it's still a game I'd rather play these days, and that game came out in 2010, a death kneel era of gaming
Then infinite came out and people were talking about it like it was the "real" sequel, and not a half baked mess that lost everything that had made Bioshock Unique gameplay-wise.
Yeah that pissed me off when they did shit like that, 2 has always been my favorite in the series. The story is as good as bs1, and gameplay is better in every way. I never understood why people hated 2.
>slower >still move the same
People hated it because the game had some degree of difficulty, and your armor was made of paper, so having to craft encounters was far beyond their pea brains when they expected a power fantasy.
Levine was supposed to be the Western answer to names like Shiggy or Kojima, so a sequel not made by the OG devs + news of multi-player in a previously single player series being frowned upon at the time meant it wasn't really going to be "allowed" more praise than the first.
Infinite sucks, that's why. Opinions on 2 improved because of that. Honestly 2 is borderline shovelware but it's done well, and the story is ok, so people have high opinions on it. It's also a nice self contained singleplayer game that can be easily returned to. The multiplayer is ok as well.
>No idea why 2 isn't considered a major classic these days >normalgays were disappointed it didn't have a crazy twist like 1 had >normalgays were annoyed that it looked and played so much like 1
these 2 factors made idiots overlook all the improvements.
>Tried like 4 times to play Bioshock 2 across both the original and remaster >Can never get past Pauper's Drop because after about 2 hours of playing the game just starts crashing every 5 minutes >Even after applying every fix ever recommended here, in Steam guides or on various Youtube tutorials the best I could get was 10 minutes without crashing
I've heard that even the console versions of the remasters suck ass. Seems like the only way I'll ever get to enjoy this game again is buying a 360.
Hell yeah brother!
If I can recommend though, maybe buy the game on its own, not the collection. Infinite straight up blows on the switch.
Infinite blows in general, but y'know.
I actually plan on replaying bioshock 2. What is actually generally considered to be the best guns/plasmids and upgrade paths?
Decoy is broken as hell, along with the bees.
Keep tk always active, you can do shit like throw back every projectile, and you can pull out the crossbow darts and keep using them with tk.
I like winter blast and security command.
The final upgrade of blast will spread itself to other enemies when you bust a frozen one, and the second level of security command summons those little gun helicopter dudes. With the right tonics you can repair and name them like they're pets. Super helpful if you're going for the good ending.
Drill and Shotgun are my favorite weapons to upgrade fully.
I don't know about best, but bees + drill is pretty effective. You can shoot bees without aiming as they'll automatically seek out enemies, and enemies being stung by bees count as unaware for the Drill Lurker tonics.
all of the guns, plasmids, and tonics are great fun, use them all. throw bees at stuff, be a security expert and have a drone army, turn invisible, etc. etc. its a such a fun game to play with. sad to see how dumbed down infinite was after this game.
Dumbed down is such an apt description. Being forced to wield only two weapons is just the surface. The upgrades only amount to damage and reload increases, and don't have an visible effect. The vigors similarly weren't worth investing in whatsoever.
Is this bioshock? Anyone remember what the temptation was supposed to be to kill the girls? I remember it was some fricking NOTHING. like bingbing points or something. I remember just wanting to fricking never play games again when I got into this supposed "moral challenging" "story driven" game and it's like "If you kill the child you can have 20c in coins!! raaAR what are you gonna dO??"
I just can't understand what they thought would be in my mind that would make me want that? There's nothing to do in the game except walk around and try to avoid boring combat with respawning clone cardboard zombies so there doesn't seem to be any appeal to abilities? I was only pressing on to see the graphics/design of new areas
>Is this bioshock? Anyone remember what the temptation was supposed to be to kill the girls?
you initially get more adam but the amount you get levels out as you get further into the game and the final difference is negligible.
saving them is a more consistent amount of adam butt the real benefit is the gifts you get from tenenbaum/the girls which contain plasmids and stuff.
>What the frick were they thinking?
here, a transcript of their thoughts >let's put some choice into the game. And different endings too! >sure, why not, just a small one, so we don't have to make too much new stuff
looking back it should have been the other way around, you should have gotten plasmids as a reward for harvesting the sisters. that would have actually incentivized putting more thought into the choice.
it's really fun. I haven't done deep dives on replays but I wouldn't be surprised if every part of the maps were designed with big sister fights in mind.

I think a lot of people hated it because you play as a Big Daddy so the whole game feels slower
>slower

No, the "defend the sister" events are fricking annoying. I just harvested them all
>some of the only challenging and interesting gameplay segments of the era
>annoying

Yes. Plus DLC.
SEX WITH BIG SISTER
I was curious and sacked one just to see what would happen, no happy ending for me

That's a bummer man.
Works super great on switch if you've got one of those. Works really well for pick up and play, y'know?
I do have a Switch and didn't even know it was on there. I might give it a shot, thanks Anon.
Hell yeah brother!

Infinite blows in general, but y'know.
>always die in the end
That fricking sucked. Sinclair didn't deserve that either.
The only Chad in gaming

the hypnotize plasmid lets you be friends with the big daddy's, and the last couple of levels have a frick load of them that will help you
I don't know about best, but bees + drill is pretty effective. You can shoot bees without aiming as they'll automatically seek out enemies, and enemies being stung by bees count as unaware for the Drill Lurker tonics.
The bees are so fricking funny dude
When I got the brass balls achievement I used cyclone trap a shit load, even the level 1 version launches brute splicers in the air
all of the guns, plasmids, and tonics are great fun, use them all. throw bees at stuff, be a security expert and have a drone army, turn invisible, etc. etc. its a such a fun game to play with. sad to see how dumbed down infinite was after this game.

Neutral ending is the best one
Neutral Ending is the best though.

its a minmaxing choice
you get more points for killing them than not
sorry can you explain it in english? What were the points for. Why was I supposed to want the points?
more adam/points = more abilities faster
you could easily break the game and level up way earlier by doing so
I just can't understand what they thought would be in my mind that would make me want that? There's nothing to do in the game except walk around and try to avoid boring combat with respawning clone cardboard zombies so there doesn't seem to be any appeal to abilities? I was only pressing on to see the graphics/design of new areas
>responding to an obvious bait
what the frick are you talking about?
>you get more points for killing them than not
I think that is actually incorrect, at least in bioshock 1
still, the choice is moronic either way
>Is this bioshock? Anyone remember what the temptation was supposed to be to kill the girls?
you initially get more adam but the amount you get levels out as you get further into the game and the final difference is negligible.
saving them is a more consistent amount of adam butt the real benefit is the gifts you get from tenenbaum/the girls which contain plasmids and stuff.
So the "temptation" to kill them was... less than nothing? What the frick were they thinking?
