I spend less than 20% (probably less than 10% too) of my time in-game doing my combat rotation though. MMOs are not a raiding lobby, you're completely missing the point of the genre.
I'm starting to think MMO haters are just zoomers that never understood the point of MMORPGs while their favorite multiplayer (and more recently even single player) games keep implementing more and more of what originally were MMO features in them because that's what people ultimately like.

I played a ton of GW1 and WoW during TBC era. Whatever helps you cope, anon. These are subpar as action rpgs and are carried by their social mechanics.
Nowadays the social aspect has been exported to social media and the actual fun parts of MMOs have been distilled to their own games, often without the fat of grinding and leveling.
Personally I'm not a fan of these either, I prefer my games to have a beginning, a middle and an end.
Sounds like you like single player games then, good for you, I play some as well.
At the end of the day I enjoy playing a game with constant updates where I have a character that has a presence in a persistent game world shared and interfaced socially with thousands to millions of other players and where I can display and share my experiences of thousands of hours worth of a large variety of content within this cohesive game world.
And while you can play a good single player game and enjoy it and then share that experience with friends or here or just keep it to yourself, there's something special about getting a nice, maybe rare, visual for overcoming a great challenge and displaying it within a shared space. It helps make social connections and getting even more out of the enjoyment of it.

It's a shame modern MMOs do everything to ensure you don't actually have to engage with people. The biggest ones (WoW, FFXIV) are basically single player games with an always-online DRM at this point.

None of those things are important to having a fun game to play, they're just window dressing, especially in a PVP focused MMO. WoW really did kill the genre, people don't even understand what something like DAoC was like, they all just expect the game to be a WoW clone of some kind and when it isn't they think it's doing something wrong. Truly a stagnant and wretched genre that only absolute subhumans still spend time on.

The game actually doesn't have a wiki. And really the only mechanic that you'd have to look up is the weird way they implemented food, potions and weight gain/loss.
No, those are neither things that are essential to MMOs nor should MMOs and singleplayer RPGs share traits. MMOs are inherently multiplayer, online experiences within an open, persistent world and should be designed around that concept. That's going to make it fundamentally differ from a game that's designed to be played only by a single player with only NPCs populating its world.

the algorithm started pushing this guys videos, he has some okay takes, but he also contradicts himself all the time. He wants the game to hold his hand (despite the fact he should be well versed in all these shitty mmo systems that they all use) and then gets mad when the game wants to start introducing more systems. He wants content, but not too much content, but make sure you tell him how the content works, but only on his terms, because the wrong kind of tutorial will make him even more mad.
He has better takes on non-mmo games funnily enough.

I watched a bunch of his content of games I had played and found them reasonable.
I hadn't played Guild Wars 2, but saw him praise it frequently.
