Win 11 LTSC releases at the end of the year. ExplorerPatcher fixes enough for me, so assuming Microsoft doesn't completely shit the bed I'm happy with moving to Windows 11.

For those of you who don't want to move to Windows 11, Win 10 gets 3 years of extended security updates after 2025, and Win 10 21H2 IoT LTSC is supported until January 2032.

You are. "High precision" tasks are ran on real-time kernels - NT isn't one; and gayming isn't "high precision" either, because it implies that even the slightest clock deviation will result in failure. You can drop frames in your bibogaymes and nothing will happen. Real tasks that require high precision are industrial machinery and the like, not fricking games.

whats the difference between it and windows 10 ltsc NON ioT?

        Anonymous

iot (internet of things) is windows embedded. i'm running it right now on this drive and it's effectively the same damn thing as non-iot ltsc (maybe some little stuff under the hood)
only major difference: for 2021 - regular ltsc support ends Jan 2027 while iot ltsc ends Jan 2032.

i personally am having issues with 2021, bluetooth doesn't work even after hours of troubleshooting and update is a little wonky there's an update that isn't for me that it keeps failing to install i looked it up also it'll bog down on restart often and i'll have to kill the power or wait till it admits it had an oopsie

i'm sticking with iot ltsc 2019 that i've had for years because it just werks and it's supported until Jan 2029. but i'm keeping this drive with 2021 on it to run the occasional game that requires a later version of windows, as few and far in between as those are. currently playing ratchet and clank. frick starfield lol

if you're looking for genuine iso's google 'mass grave windows' and go to the .dev then find 'download windows' there's also activation guides its so fricking simple. remember to deny all data collection options on install. also don't connect to the internet while installing so you don't have to use a microsoft account

            Anonymous

            exactly.
i'm considering trying it just to see what it does. even if it fixed bluetooth, i'm pretty sure i'm not sticking with 2021. like i said there's just something about it that feels a little worse than 2019

At the time vista/7 did bog shit down, mostly a hardware problem for people who'd used the same hardware for 2000/me/xp. My decade old hardware could run 10, so that wasn't an issue, but I have seen people who had craptops (newer than my hardware at the time) that got shafted with the forced 10 upgrade fiasco.

I said that, the only reason I swapped was 64bit support. 7 has worse menu design than XP (menus, breadcrumbs, shell selection moronation, start menu hotkeying broken), that fricking low vram aero bug that you can only disable with a hex patch, sleep/hibernate being fricked up for no reason etc.

though at least they fixed the task manager priority and one or two other things

Feel free to go for as long as you can. Being obstinate is admirable in it's own way. But staying still is how you age. Your neuroplasticity and ability to learn new shit degrades every day and even more if you don't keep things fresh. Eventually you'll be facing a future you haven't kept up with and find you no longer can. Like

I don't even feel like you're talking to me anymore. Nobody is more tech illiterate than the whippersnappers fresh out of school. If someone is updating everything just because the device they're using is telling them to, they're the luddite. They've been hearing fairy tails about boogeymen hackers their whole life and it's got them spooked. A fear of technology is born from ignorance. I don't fear modern versions of Windows; I work on them (among others) for my job. I just have a genuine distaste for them because they're repulsive and cause my clients (and subsequently me) more trouble.

This isn't a symptom of age. It's a symptom of experience. I don't want to drive around in a smart car that tells me the vibrating princess plug in my ass has a low battery. I want to drive around in my busted ass jeep.

Except I know how to use linux, but my experience generally revolves around migrating linux servers to OpenBSD solutions. TCO drops due to the consistency of releases and the lack of bleeding edge homosexualry implemented in the kernel and the thousands of possible userlands.

So many people I interact with accuse me of being a luddite when they find out I still use 7 at home, but then they get confused when they learn I'm a network engineer. People foolishly updating software unnecessarily costs companies billions of dollars per year. It's common sense that if it's not broken don't fix it. I'm asking something impossible from you so I was never expecting an earnest answer. I was illustrating that the newer versions of Windows don't actually improve a user's experience. In most cases it makes things measurably worse. Just like with Unix systems there's a tremendous benefit of using a static OS that always operates exactly as you expect it to without some busybody company poking its nose in and telling you that your computer needs to change something. It might be different if this PC were used for sensitive or financial things, but it doesn't. It's a true shitbox that is only used to goof off on the Internet.

Do not ever upgrade to Windows 11. This is the worst fricking operating system I've ever seen. There are so many issues with it from top to bottom that will just brick your PC because Microsoft forces updates on you, even if they frick up other processes. Frick Windows 11

You can hack a new install with it removed, but otherwise, it REALLY wants you to. I use one because it allows me to use Windows Hello, which speeds up login (and also thwarts keyloggers for Windows itself).

Literally no reason to be using 10 at this point. Yah 11 has that dumb requirement bs, but anyone with half a brain cell can bypass it. Other than that, 11 performs better than 10.

I will switch to 11 once it becomes somewhat usable and doesn't have a shit stuffed into every feature.
It took Win 10 over 4 years to become usable as well, so I expect roughly the same time here for it to become less shit.

What's happened? I was using steam on win 7 like 3 weeks ago (moved to new hardware and the pain of some games requiring 10 or running them on 7, which would be unstable with the provided work arounds) was getting annoying. Like MOST stuff I played worked, it seemed to be MS related things that wouldn't run.

I hate 10 so much. Took a week to finally lock down this LTSC. Only problem is every time I've wanted to install something (like lang packs, or some other .net package I have to spend an hour allowing update+services, installing shit, then murdering all the services/registry/elevated user privs to stop the update orch again). Eventually I hope I'll get to the point I don't need to do that, but I'm paranoid that I'll forget something one time and I'll be met with the ever wonderful 'you're updating right now, I don't care what you're doing' bullshit. Frick off miscroshit.

I'll never understand why people don't upgrade. My brother is still on 7.

11 is better in every way. You don't even have to pay for it. Just pirate it, load O&OShutUp to kill all the privacy issues (update when necessary), have full backup harddrive ready, and boom you're done.

And this is coming from someone who used to loathe Windows like you wouldn't believe. So much so, I bought a early '08 Mac Pro on a retail paycheck (finally sold it a several years ago). I decided to give Windows just one more try and 10/11 worked just fine. I did have one issue where I had to do a re-install. But I had a backup, so I was done in an hour or so.

You guys are making a bigger deal out of upgrading than it needs to be. It's free. It works great. And it's what we got until Linux stops being fricking stupid and launches an actual competition gaming OS. And no, there's nothing even close on the market (need HDR, easy to install and backup, and complete oculus 2 connectivity).

What does 11 let me do that 7 can't do? Nothing. Windows has not added anything since 8.1 that actually improves the experience, stability nor provides something that is an actual improvement to quality of life.
What does 11 no longer allow me to do that 7 allowed me to do? A lot.
It is absolutely moronic that I need to bother with a bunch of third party programs and registry/policy editing to do things that the older version of the OS actually has options for. Even something as fricking simple as changing the desktop/system font is no longer an option in 11. It USED TO BE and then they patched it out.
