i extended in yur mom lul
Frick the morons that upload extended versions, fricking subhumans I hope they all die painfully
I liked it. However for some reason I couldn't force myself to finish Mother 3.
Stop Raidou
Mother 1 had some actual kino moments. The bit where Mary remembers who she was is probably the most emotionally-moving thing in any NES game.
Play it
I would play with Touhou moms if you know what I mean
How good is this for someone whose only exposure to touhou was like 3 levels of cherry blossom?
If the girl on the right doesn't make your penis instantly hard, it's probably not worth playing.
I was legitimately surprised when I read about how based Ana was in the Japanese version.
Do tell
It’s nothing huge or anything, but Ana was a straight-up devout Christian in the Japanese release. She was the daughter of a pastor, lived in her town’s church, and listed her bible as one of her most precious possessions.
Ana might actually be the best mother girl.
The original MOTHER actually had the most soul
Queen mary's castle is still the best theme
it feels regal, yet sad
>The girl singing this was 14 at the time
>JAM in the url
Paradise Line is the goat
the fact that this album goes so far under the radar is insane
shit forgot my link
It's bizarrely catchy and well produced for what it is. The only reason I know about it is because I TPB'd anything Mother related I could find after I first played it in 2006.
>It was made before the game even started being worked on
Goddamn, now that's a clear vision for a project
Mother 1 really was the best
Wait! People don't like it? It's possibly one of the most balanced "hard" rpgs of that era, it's tons of fun!
It's more balanced than mother 2 in fact
It had the best overarching story of the games, even if there's very little of it.
Definitely the most soulful of the series: it knows how to do a whole lot with a whole little. The themes are grander and you feel the characters' vulnerabilities to a degree you never really do in M2 or M3. You control a kid in other games but this is the only one to make the world you're traveling around in feel truly imposing and scary. For that reason, it's a more immersive experience as well.
It's actually really great. Going through it now. It started kind of difficult and it's only gotten harder. So much so that I rarely fight battles anymore. There's not so much of a story, but there's great moments spread throughout and my own experience with it will create a great story regardless.
>mfw a car drove past Ninten and blew exhaust in his face and gave him an asthma attack and while he was choking on the ground the car ran over him and I got a game over
Even the parts that are badly balanced excuse the existence of 4th D slip
which is a guaranteed escape from a fight
I love that name for the move. It's saved me quite a bit.
I finally got Teddy and I'm 25 while the others are both 18. All the enemies on the way through to Ellay were rough and I just booked it past them. I didn't any point in grinding my party since neither were useful. I've got all the current best equipment and enemies' spells are just too much to handle. I probably will grind some now with Teddy though.
If it's your first time playing through the game, make sure to listen to the vocal track after it.
It's pretty corny but dam nice
Be careful, there’s some fights that require endurance so make sure you got good HP at least
What has been your favorite part so far?
For some reason I like Youngtown a lot
it just gives me this eerie feeling
Easily Magicant the first time. That music kicks in and I had no idea if I was in a safe or dangerous place. I also just like visiting all the quiet, little towns throughout the game. The one where everyone is sick can frick off though.
And despite the game's crazy dungeons, I've gotten through them relatively quickly with no maps. To get Lloyd he mentioned wanting a bottle rocket from the Sweet Little Factory, but I never found anyone that mentioned that particular place, only the huge factory up north. So I went through that whole dungeon until I found a bottle rocket for Lloyd, warped back to Magicant and trekked all the way to Merrysville only to redo the dungeon 2 more times. Got to the top with Lloyd and he died in the room with the rocket. Had to warp back to Magicant and do that all over again.
you can use breadcumbs to instantly teleport back to where you used them
I couldn't figure out how that worked. I went to eat bread one time, hit use, and got bread crumbs. I didn't know how to warp back so I dropped them thinking that's how it's done, but that's like drop as in "throw away."
Yeah, when you use them you save the place, you then use the breadcrumbs again to teleport back
Oh man that would have saved so much time. So much of my game has been warping to Magicant and then taking a train out of Merrysville.
Do you save the people in the town with the spooky mansion? I ran down it, found the piano, expected a boss fight, got a tune, and then left. It feels weird not helping them out.
You do not. You just get the tune and get out.
How far are you into the game now?
I think you may be very close to the end
Made it to Ellay, got arrested, stayed three nights in jail, had to rebuy my weapon, got Teddy, and that's where I last quit. He mentioned wanting to visit a mountain.
I got a good laugh out of Lloyd's dad also either hiding in a garbage can or just literally being one. Was that just a way to rename Lloyd or does that come into play later?
Ninten's Dad is a phone and Lloyd's dad is a trashcan.
I don't remember well, but I think they ask for your name
How many melodies did you get?
can you recall them?
Hmm I can't quite remember all that I got.
Doll, Singing bird or something, the piano, and I know I have more, but I can't recall which. There's one in the desert I missed. I got that one spoiled for me so I know it's there, just not sure where.
There's a guy that offer's airplane rides, if you saw him, one of the rides hints heavily to it's location
It sounds like you're not missing any of them, except for the desert one, for that one a more specific hint would be
To the left of the guy with the airplane, and a bit to the north, there's a strange cactus
When I got that one spoiled I was like "how would anyone find this?" Then I got to Ellay and an npc mentioned it. Was vague and I suppose if I didn't have it spoiled I might have written it off as just something silly.
This game is too good. I need to beat it and then go beat the sequels. Got to the Dept Store in Earthbound and gave up when I got rekt.
The guy flying the plane circles around it a few times, that's another big hint, and it kinda looks weird
EarthBound and MOTHER 3 are nice, but personally I like 1 the most.
EarthBound is good for similar reasons, and 3 is very different structurally but pretty good too
and somehow, every track is good
Let's act like I linked the vocal version of Bein' Friends first try
To add to this, since every character has a different inventory, you can use breadcumbs as a fast travel system
so you can cut the walking heavily
>Ninten just dropping breadcumbs between dimensions and in a train ride
damn that's a loaf of bread
Pretty sure I was about 25 at Mt Itoi, sounds about right.
>skipping battles in another 1
I’d advise you not to, that’s going to bite you in the ass horribly for the final dungeon. Hell even if you are on a good level the game can still one shot you during that area
>another 1
The heck? I wrote Mother 1….
>Want to do sketches for thread
>Can't keep my eyes open
Maybe next time...
The fact that none of the party members are really required except for Lloyd is nice
You can beat the game alone, with all party members, and anything in between
>instead of pushing Nintendo to make a Mother 1 remake Itoi just pumps out ton of Mother merch but to be fair it is pretty good merch
>one of the fan remakes of mother 1 is removing the non-linearity which is one of the best parts of the game
>the other fan remake is keeping it but barely has any progress
>both will probably be vaporware like 99% of Mother fangames
>mother 1 earthbound romhack remake has been dead for years despite being the project with the most progress and promise
just frick my shit up mothergays
Don't forget MOTHER 1 Anniversary edition
which just fricks up the exp and money gains from battles, ensuring you can never afford anything and it looks ugly
Currently in the middle of an old jrpg marathon. Playing through DQ1. FF1, and Mother 1 on NES and astounded by how none of them feel dated. I was also surprised by how much that Earthbound just pulled from Mother 1. Kind of makes me think of Evil Dead. Like Itoi wanted to get a do over and try it again, and while it's very similar they both have their own unique qualities that don't override the other.
>DQ1
How can you play DQ1 and not feel like it's dated, I'm a huge DQgay and even I broke down and had to use cheats to beat it since I got so bored of all of the battles being the same thing since you only have one party member.
Everything worked, everything was easy to understand. I knew what my spells did. I knew what my goal was. It's efficient and elegant and does everything right somehow while being the first. Obviously I'd rather play RPGs without grinding, but DQ1 does it well enough to cover just how short the game actually is and the grind didn't add that much to the length.
I think the combat was deeper than it had any right to be for a solo rpg. Stopspell on enemies with spells, minus the wizards, and sleep for hard hitting normal enemies. Later rpgs just have you mash A and in DQ1 I needed to think a little. I liked it.
And actually it's the only DQ I've been able to enjoy.
>the combat was deeper
you spam stopspell and sleep the entire game, and then mash A. There's no thought involved in the game at all, every other DQ game has much better combat that forces you to weigh up your options, especially against bosses which can have multiple attacks per turn.
>There's no thought involved in the game at all, every other DQ game has much better combat
That's objectively false.
Please tell me you're pretending to be moronic.
I LOVE MOTHER 1
I LOVE MY MOTHER
I WANT TO MAKE A SOMEONE A MOTHER
Is there a good QoL romhack for Mother 1? NES jarpigs can be a bit much to go back to.
I still think the best option is to just play the version with the Easy Ring on.
that's Mother 1 on the nes or Mother 1+2 on the gba
There are many fan remakes and mods, but most somehow frick something up
Just use the easy ring and use breadcrumbs sparingly
that should cut most of the annoyance of the encounters and backtracking
maybe follow the walkthrough in starmen.net if you really want to, they give spoiler free tips and shit
The music is nice but the actual game is shit
I'd really prefer if you'd be quiet...
