Is it that hard? I never went through the single player. I played the splitscreen of this on N64 and PS2 with my brothers and some friends.
It's insanely frickin annoying I can tell you that much. There's zero logic to it as the lasers are clearly so low that even rolling with perfect timing his feet/back would be hit by the lasers and yet that's the only way to get past them.
Shoulda played the PS2 version, 3x the framerates!
The collision detection is insanely accurate, when you understand that it can make those rolls easier.

I've beaten it before but I usually stop at level 13. By that point the game is sending you through the same levels for the seventh time but now with more obnoxious enemy placement.

I think it may have been the very first cover based shooter, it walked so gears of war could run.
This game has amazing atmosphere. It is so dreary and drab in a hopeless sort of way. I especially love the various changes in the color of the sky from a clear blue to a nasty smokey orange. I also love the sound design. Every time I ever step on a metal grate irl to this day it sends me back to hearing the echoing of foot steps in an empty warehouse from this game. The story in this game is nothing special but does have the ol MY FRIEND IS....LE BAD? WHICH L which was fun for the first play through. Also Op, this game can be hard, but is not unfair. Like other anons have said just learn how the lasers work. If you can't use your brain to actually analyze an obstacle then go play a modern bing bing wahoo with the golden suit so you can beat something without trying. I think the actual combat is more unforgiving if you take things too hastily. Day after day I see threads of games I beat as a child filter 20 something year olds. It never gets old.
I loved playing it on the one shot mode, it you were shot once, it was over. I don't remember if it was an unlockable mode, a code, or a game shark thing, but after playing through countless times it was fun to know you could play the game flawlessly.
How do you play this game. I fumbled around with the first few guys and messed up the cover so I just ran up and shot them. Then I got bored and quit the game before it progressed passed the basics.
You definitely want to take your time or else you will get wrecked. It's a game of slow pace, but quick reflex.

It's a game of pushing forward and chasing the line against pressures of time. You want to do quick acquisitions of targets and respond to threats fast.

The two player was fun. Should've had a 4 player mode. Single player was whatever.

This is one of the rare games that only released on N64 and PS2. In fact it might be the only one.

I'm sorry man, this game actually seems pretty cool and may have been an inspiration for RE4, but I tapped out at "S.C.A.T."
Man, /vr/ is full of so many casuals particularly ones that have to adjust to new control schemes.
If you have a functioning brain it shouldn't be an issue but I see gays constantly complaining about having to adapt to new things, which was such a common thing back then.
It makes me wonder what the average age of /vr/ posters is that anything that isn't dual joystick controls with standardized controls makes so many people complain about older games.
Anything without dual joystick control is unnatural. Simple as. Humans are born with a head, 2 arms, and 2 legs that move independently. If you can't strafe while looking at shooting at any direction you want, it's objectively unnatural and therefore janky.
