It was back in 2007/2008 with the release of things like the first IPhone, Big Bang Theory and reddit becoming popular. Ganker would create things like rage faces and they would end up on reddit (and ifunny, facebook...) a short while later, at the same time as nerd stuff was becoming mainstream.
It wasn't that early, I was posting here in highschool around that time and none of my friends knew or cared about Ganker or memes. Normies didn't latch on until recently. Those things were appropriated but it never reach a point like it did until about 2018, where zoomers basically made another chanology happen.
They didn't know what a Ganker was or where their memes came from, but they were still reproducing Ganker memes and opinions from here with a big delay.
