Because they're all medieval shit which is an overused concept that's tried to the death. It's a extremely stale thing at this point, hence why nobody outside of video game fans know them unlike anyone who can easily remember who is Mario, Sonic or Crash and many more due to their simple recognisable design that isn't bound by a particular setting and timeframe.
Being medieval isn't evenan excuse. Plenty of games in that general timeframe or inspired by it have very recognizable characters, that only need 3 or 4 attributes to be so
