I played it around launch and was coming from the GTA4 mindset of people just killing each other whenever. Why did this eventually become known as "griefing"? I played it some time later and you get put in a time out lobby if you kill people. So the devs even agreed with people crying.

People would just go to the military base and get jets or spawn in tanks to kill people or put hacked million dollar bounties on people for the whole lobby to chase. Shit was fun for the first year.

      >you get put in a time out lobby if you kill people
You only end up there if you blow up someone's car like 50 times

I liked GTAIV but the weapons were way overpowered in GTAV and took noticeably less skill to use. GTAIV didn't have super fast jets or super durable tanks. In GTAV, people could easily grab one of those and shit on everyone's day with ease.

It didn't help that GTAV also added a bunch of "convenience" features that people immediately took and flipped around into griefing tools. On GTAV, there are communities built around the act of killing yourself to deny other players the kill, and staying hidden/invulnerable until your opponent is no longer in a position to fight. The circumstances are clearly not the same.

        Anonymous

GTAIV's free mode free-for-alls were actually surprisingly competitive outside of people figuring out glitches like clipping into the geometry and becoming invulnerable while still being able to shoot other people. I remember you could take down buttholes in Annihilators with the pistol if you were a good enough shot. The Buzzard in TBOGT was even easier since the canopy's shape makes it easier to hit and you start out with the best pistol in the game.

          Anonymous

          >buttholes
          >in annihilators
Those people were not buttholes at all, the annihilators are borderline useless in pvp, certainly weaker then a pistol. If someone came after you with an annihilator, they were just having a good laugh pretending to try to kill you while you got to have fun taking out a helicopter with loud scary guns. Like the onky way an annhilator could grief you is if you went afk and the player took time to line you up. This is coming from someone who could precisely take out vehicle tires with it whenever I wanted. Tires fine, but shooting a person? Lmfao good luck. Not like it had the explosive rounds like it did in 4, where it was a grief machine.

GTA4 multiplayer was much more fun and chill than GTA5 where you have third world kids with hacks instantly blowing you up along with the entire server.

There’s deathmatch, in which you duel other players, and then there’s bullying a low level because you wanna raise your K/D ratio like a coward.

GTA Online also created a mentality, which is explosive spam and placing stickies on your feet to deny the other player a kill.

You remember how in the GTA4 MP missions and gamemodes there was always some troll deliberately ignoring the objective/teamkilling and wasting everyone's time? In GTA Online all of those missions and gamemodes are in freeroam. So fricking with people in freeroam who aren't interested in your K:D war is just as much griefing as it was to play Bomb Da Base and then go AFK on the other side of the city after running over all of your teammates.

When no one was looking, Rockstar deleted 186 cars. They deleted 186 cars.
Thats almost as many as 19 tens.
    And that's terrible.

      Anonymous

Well, they didn't outright delete them, they just removed them from the stores. If you have them they're still there, and a lot of them can still be obtained from the street and other places. But it's still really shitty and a sign of what they're going to do with GTA 6, making things limited time so that people feel an urge to buy them as quickly as possible so that they don't have to wait for a year for them to show up again. Probably gonna make even the top cars limited time so that people feel desperate to get the fastest car while it's available

This. Most of the top cars in each class drive the same anyway, so pick your flavor (if it’s even available) and use it.

Back when I played the game in 2018, I drove the Nero if I was going solo, and the Raiden/Schaffer V12/Buzzard if I was going with other players.

If you want to win any races you'll need a decent car. I mean I like getting all kinds of cars but I'm just saying, they're definitely going to go in that direction where they have a Krieger or something available for like two weeks so that people rush out to get it

The grinding cooperation was something I haven’t seen in other games. If the lobby was full, two people shoot up the garage from the south side, one person shoots up from the north side by the bridge and destroying the enemy cars the moment they spawn, and one person hanging out in front of Madrazo’s house for exactly ten minutes for the most efficient payout. To think Rockstar was sooooo upset about it they intentionally broke the post-mission next activity selector to include completely random stuff, disabled the “replay mission” button, and made the payout timer-based instead of being flat was so funny.

They also removed the 'gift money/car' options after like a month because of how many people were using it to help others get rich. There are still stats in the menu that keep track of it even though you haven't been able to do it in a decade.

no frick you there is nothing nostalgic or memorable about this shit. i was playing it at launch and literally everyone was just grinding rooftop rumble. it wasn't fun it was just the quickest job. it got temporarily removed IIRC and came back nerfed with an extra fail condition if you just used stickies to blow up everything to get the intel quick, the explosions would also blow up the intel. iirc they nerfed that mission multiple times just to kill any idea that you were able to make money quickly doing anything in this game, because you were meant to buy shark cards instead.

at some point everyone got obsessed with grinding chemical extraction because that one was also quick and easy (still not fun, this game fricking sucks) this mission got outright deleted and re-added as a heist setup. again, only as a reminder that the wienersucking israelites are in control of this game. you are not going to have fun, you are going to spend real money.

frick you newhomosexual underage morons who play this shit and spend money on it thinking your reward for paying IRL money for fake money is somehow supposedly linked to "having fun"

The first like three months of GTA online was an insanely buggy nightmare that would just have you stuck in the clouds for minutes on end as shit never loaded. It was more ore less a pistols only version of the modern lobby where everyone killed on another. Then Christmas hit and the first insane wave of money drops happened and a lot of players just bought all the ridiculous shit then tanks, attack helicopters and all the full modified cars they wanted. It was funny how rockstar rolled back money afterwards but didn't rollback any of the cars and other shit people bought

Vehicle deformation is still seen in the vanilla vehicles, but all the PS4 and onwards DLC cars have zero physics. Sure, you can break apart their components like the doors and bumpers, but they won’t deform.

the handling of the DLC cars is noticably different as well. the vigero has a nice soft suspension but the gauntlet classic is stiff as a board.

Yeah, unfortunately. I stopped playing in late 2018, but the newer cars felt stiff and samey. It got to the point I bought a Rapid GT and drove that thing frequently because it had a unique handling.

Problem is that Rockstar designed the game to be super grindy, then releases an update that introduces a great way to get money and players can afford almost everything, then they release a new update that has very expensive things, then they release a newer update that has a much better money-making method and players can afford everything once more, and then the cycle repeats until they started demanding you to pay two million for a shitbox.

I remember in the 360 days someone set up hacked DNS servers that you could join and it would max out your money. I think Rockstar took 90% of it away eventually, but not after I bought the biggest garage and filled it with every car upgraded all the way. They even left me with like 50 mil for the road.
