This is the story of a man named Stanley. Stanley worked for a company in a big building where he was Employee #427.

      Everything and nothing. It's a 9/10 game.

Basically the state of the vidya industry.
The Narrator wants to tell a story about how Stanley (you) needs to stop pushing buttons (playing vidya, working in a cubicle farm, etc) and go touch grass or something. Very generic "corporations are mind controlling you, go be free" stuff. But the irony is, of course, you are playing a video game and the narrator is controlling you and telling you what to do. So all of this is hypocritical.
Adjacent to this is what happens when you do not listen to the Narrator, which quickly becomes a metacommentary on various games and how games are designed - with developers often intentionally giving you the middle finger with a bad end if you dare stray from their intended path. I think the Dishonored franchise is a good example of this, where the 'best' ending is also the one where you basically don't use any of the cool powers or swordfighting mechanics the game offers. Rewarding pussies for not mastering the game. The expanded edition also comments about video game reviews, mocking people who wanted to be able to skip the Narrator's dialogue and also just further fricking with the player and the narrator in general.

It's a walking simulator, and it certainly isn't even the best (that'd be Obra Dinn, God I wish I could play that game with fresh eyes again), but it is funny. The broom closet is my favorite part in particular.

          Superliminal has actual gameplay
it's not particularly challenging but it's still much more than TSP where you basically only ever need to choose alternate paths.

Is this sarcasm cause gameplay isn't twitch shit; reading text and making meaningful decisions is gaming, and perhaps one of the oldest forms of computer gaming via text adventure games. The gaming industry really took a nosedive when FPS took off with all of its twitch-gaming.

All metacommentary art pieces like this are really cliche at this point. I remember stuff like this starting to feel washed 15 years ago and the cope at the time was "2deep4u", as if meta commentary is somehow deep or exceptional than other forms of commentary.

Obra Dinn is amazing, you're just getting filtered. It's a detective story about a missing ship that just arrived in port with nobody on board and you're trying to figure out who or what killed everyone.

That was intentional; I thought it'd make it a tad more funny and possibly net an extra (You) for someone who thought they were clever for pointing it out.

I am accusing you of being a false boomer.

I'm gen y (33), but close enough. It was the easiest way to convey what I meant.

Black person the game itself is a filter, the most boring and bland of them all (monochrome). I don't play gay shit. Plus, God was based enough to let me see colors despite having dogshit eyesight otherwise; why wouldn't I want to enjoy such a gift to the utmost?

Plus, I like to use reshade these days and autistically enhance all the colors 'n saturation 'n contrast 'n sheeeeit.

why the frick do you zoomers keep applying the walking-sim meme term

the actual gameplay is pretty classic point-and-click adventure it's just done from a first-person perspective.

Stanley Parable's legacy on the Internet is something so bizarre to me. This game used to be prime YouTuber bait around 2011-2013 until it was eventually forgotten, and now you have Tumblr fujos trying to reclaim it because in the eyes of everyone else TSP became the quintessential example of what being a "Reddit game" means. The only instance I see anons ever bring it up now is during the occasional Poker Night threads, for some fricking reason.

      I did.
      >Everything in its Right Place from Radiohead plays in one of the endings
      kino

I don't think I would like Stanley Parable today like I did back when it originally came out, this is why I didn't buy the remade version. It was one of those games like Spec Ops The Line which came out during a time where "subverting expectations" and "metacommentary" was novel because of how dumb and hypocritical a lot of games seemed at the time, but now fricking every game that feels pretentious feels that way because it's trying to be meta and subvert expectations, when the way to actually subvert expectations nowadays would be to just be straightforward, fun, and enjoyable while seeming like you actually enjoy making video games and wouldn't rather be writing a book or making movies.

In the time since Stanley Parable has come out, I've really grown to hate watching video game writers disappear up their own ass while trying to sniff their own farts. I can't believe I actually WANT brown and bloom masculine dudebro shooters like Gears of War back knowing how bored I was of them back in the day, but that's kinda where we are in the current state of video game writing, cause at least Gears of War was interested in being a VIDEO GAME that had no intention of making the player feel bad for playing a VIDEO GAME.
