Yeah and that's still a snoozefest because you're basically doing the equivalent of twinking by staying low level but having overpowered endgame gear and magic/GFs.
FF8's gameplay is shit no matter how you play it. I carded and no encountered my way through my first playthrough because I actually liked the card game and quickly realized that turning enemies into cards and then eating the cards for magic was better than drawing and it still sucked enough shit for me to drop it out of boredom. I've never done that for any other FF game other than XIII and XV
>Yeah and that's still a snoozefest because you're basically doing the equivalent of twinking by staying low level but having overpowered endgame gear and magic/GFs.
Level doesn't matter because enemies level with you, grinding EXP is literally a waste of time.
Refine tents into curaga and the brothers cards (got by beating them in a fight) into dino bones and then into quake. HP and attack are all you really need.
I had vhs and internet at the time. I used to record the cutscenes on VHS tapes because they were cool and I even had one of all the GFs attacks. Anyway, this was talked about back then so I'd watch the last cutscene a lot and pause during that burst of scenes. I was 11 in 1999 so I was playing these games without knowing much subtly or metaphors really just a cool rpg game with a cool MC that acted like a real guy,
I like the moon just being where monsters hang out because ???? and someone/probably a sorceress with curiously defined pecs and a bulge decided we needed to weaponise crystal pillars to summon moon monsters because ???? because we knew about moon monsters somehow maybe we found them in space along with the ???? monsters that just fucking infest the cold void of fucking space.
I think you can still get all missable gfs at the end, requires you to take Draw from the first boss tho so might make things more difficult then they should be. Or maybe you can miss cerberus since its a fight and not draw?
in the exact same way with the exact same face model with and the same moveset in dissidia? Yeah I'm thinking it's obvious but intentionally not stated explicitly but what do I know
It's fine anon, you don't understand subtext. It's okay.

ironic, considering the subtext is Ultimecia is using Squall's memories against him in an antagonistic way rather than doing a pose meaning she's that exact character
Again, if that were the cases then there's just as much argument for her being Seifer as there is for her being Rinoa
>Squall is dead so the entirety of Disc 2 onwards is made up bullshit
What exactly is the merit of this theory? That the game is a waste of time? It doesn't mean anything, it's fucking retarded, as stupid as it is R=U would at least have some impact on the story.
FF8 gives me the most options to engage with its magic and ability system outside of FF5. If I want to draw 100, I can do that. Or play a minigame and refine cards, or items, or use items as magic, or refine magic into other magic, or just cast directly from enemies, or swap magic around to find combos with abilities, or customize abilities on each GF by forgetting old ones, etc. If you can handle choice, you tend to like 8s systems more. If the game had any form of end game repeatable content designed to test your ability to mix and match I think it would be more fondly remembered.
The problem is really that it doesn't lay out that vision clearly. It's all very cryptic. Which is probably a better and more interesting artistic choice. But it's not surprising people don't get it, but the people who shit on it constantly have mostly just never played it.
Completely agreed. I'm just happy it exists, because I doubt we'll see another system like it again with where the series is going. Their loss to whoever criticizes it without giving it a try
I really wish I had the technical know how and desire to mod the draw system out of the game completely and implement an entirely new leveling/magic system.
The entire game needs to be redone. If you give your players a boring way to play the game but it's highly efficient they will do it. I had a more innocent playthrough when I was a child, where I thought leveling up was a good thing, but the game was really hard because of it and that pushed me into drawing a lot of magic and playing around with the junction system, and by extension the GF stuff. And from there I learned that refining items into magic was a thing and was crazy good, and especially cards. So I could sit around in town playing cards for hours and turn that into magic.
But now as an adult I can't go back to the game because I know that if I just card everything and stay at a lower level I'll have a much easier time playing the game. Ironically removing the leveling system entirely would have been a better option for the developers and they could have set a static level of difficulty across the game. I can't help but wonder if it was considered during development but scrapped because players expect to be able to level up.
I can't wait for my old age long term memory loss to kick in so I can play it innocently again.
Correct because the actual way to play this game is as Squall Muto: The King of Games. Fighting monsters is a fools errand.
>grind by drawing on monsters
>or grind by playing a card game several times
Is there a way I can ignore grinding in this game?
GameShark or the free cheats modern versions give you
>Is there a way I can avoid [JRPG gameplay] in [JRPG]
decidedly not
senpai you can literally beat the entire game, save for optional shit, just by avoiding random encounters and spamming GFs and limits everywhere else.
It's literally the single greatest JRPG. No contest.
Yeah and that's still a snoozefest because you're basically doing the equivalent of twinking by staying low level but having overpowered endgame gear and magic/GFs.

r-e-f-i-n-e--s-h-i-t
just a thought
Refining shit makes drawing pointless and there's more to refine than cards.
Refine tents into curaga and the brothers cards (got by beating them in a fight) into dino bones and then into quake. HP and attack are all you really need.
All you have to do is draw on the heaven and hell islands
Yoo he zoyjakin!
>game filters you if you level up
Man
this scared me as a kid
cap because it only shows up for literally a frame and nobody even knew it was there until 20 years later when the internet and memes were at a peak
log off
the fuck is this newfag shit
embarrassing
you have to go back

didn't read, didn't happen + go back
Come now anon it's two lines and some guy's little childhood memory
holy gay
FF8 PRESENTS TOTAL ZOOMER DEATH
why is squall's face always removed when R=U threads start?
ff8 has the cringiest symbolism in a popular rpg
Filtered
Can’t be filtered if I beat the game chuddy.
>oh the statue cry’s because the lunar tear is happening wooow
shut upp
I like the moon just being where monsters hang out because ???? and someone/probably a sorceress with curiously defined pecs and a bulge decided we needed to weaponise crystal pillars to summon moon monsters because ???? because we knew about moon monsters somehow maybe we found them in space along with the ???? monsters that just fucking infest the cold void of fucking space.
time compression
Or just learning Card Mod and Playing Cards with NPCs
>forget to draw boss
>lose guardian force forever
who the fuck designed this
isn't there a way to get missed GFs in ultimecias castle?
Not all of them. Off the top of my head, I think you can get Eden, Alexander and uh...maybe Carbuncle and Leviathan? But not Siren.
you can get siren
I think you can still get all missable gfs at the end, requires you to take Draw from the first boss tho so might make things more difficult then they should be. Or maybe you can miss cerberus since its a fight and not draw?
Meltdown, then doomtrain when you get it. Congratulations, you beat every boss in the game
The most ambitious FInal Fantasy.
I remember someone further ahead than me telling me about eden's eat and the censor cut and I didn't believe them at all.
>tfw smartar than sqaull is ded and r is u
>realize r is ded
This isn't some kind of secret handshake. She's holding her fucking finger up.

Ulitimecia is Seifer, undeniable proof at 11:14
gayest game I've ever seen
nowhere as gay as thinking a witch with mind reading powers is a different character because she used a similar pose
It's fine anon, you don't understand subtext. It's okay.

so did squall die from the ice shard or not?
yes and no
No I wasn't dickhead I just cashed in cards
You were filtered into playing the card game too much and neglecting other methods. The key is to dabble in everything. You're a fucking retard.
>Singlehandedly deniesthe "Squall is dead" theory by merely existing
Nothing personal, schizo.
??? it's a genie like in aladdin or something. I don't get it
>Squall is dead so the entirety of Disc 2 onwards is made up bullshit
What exactly is the merit of this theory? That the game is a waste of time? It doesn't mean anything, it's fucking retarded, as stupid as it is R=U would at least have some impact on the story.
He looked like he died then people saw moombas and use that as their justification.
>Is that a...a pibedal wolf-ferret-fox? No! NOOO! It's impossible! Squall must be dead!
>UUUURRRHHHH INSANITY
What was the point of Shumi Village?
backstory on Norg, Cid and Laguna
it also doesn't make sense, half of the evidence used for it extremely weak.

and this, why does this look like a chao?
delete this now
The music is kino
shut the fuck off
How do you pronounce SeeD? Seed? CD?
I keep meaning to replay the OG steam version so I can finally get those piece of shit pocketstation items.
Once you learn how to break the game it becomes even more boring and tedious.
FF8's mechanics suck ass.
I really wish I had the technical know how and desire to mod the draw system out of the game completely and implement an entirely new leveling/magic system.

Didn't draw a single spell. Beat the game as a child by constantly being in yellow health and passing the turn until limit break popped up.
>He didn't learn the way of the triple triad
You didn't beat the game.
