You aren't seeing the signs then. The Video Game industry is collapsing under its own weight. The overhead and marketing costs for any AAA are basically no longer profitable. The industry as a whole hasn't been profitable for years actually. Studios have survived on speculator investor money then on woke hedge funds investing to promote the communist agenda. Both of those wells have dried up. The average normie has basically moved on the mobileslop, not just because quality has fallen off a cliff but nobody has money to buy full priced games anymore. The point being, consoles are on their way out because they cannot survive in this industry environment and economic freefall. Consoles were never profitable except for the PS2 and every other Nintendo console, they were always vehicles for Tech Giants to collect consumer data, which was where the big money was at. And now the marketing and advertising industry collapsed and that is no longer profitable. Consoles will not survive this generation, except Nintendo, because they were satisfied with a niche audience and never attempted to become a multi-media Tech company and always remained a family entertainment group. Soon though, consoles will be too much of a financial burden for Microsoft and Sony and will be dropped. Then all that's left will be mobile, Nintendo's quirky niche console and PC gaming. Then there will be a PC renaissance once big studios have all collapsed along with the next stock market crash. And it will be glorious. Give it 4-5 years.

Problem is Microsoft are removing the Win 10 taskbar from Win 11 in the 24H2 update which ExplorerPatcher won't be able to work around. The only solution will be to un-remove said taskbar somehow or to make an open alternative akin to OpenShell.

The only games I have a hard time getting working are ones that were based on proprietary hardware back then, like 3dFX games from the late 90's, or very specific games from 2003-2005 that relied on some NVidia tech that was discontinued. Everything else seems to work just fine. I just played Silent Hill 3 from 2003, and despite being a Konami PC port, it just installs and runs on Windows 11 with no patching or modding.
Unironically SH3 is the most modern game I had the more problems getting to run, in W10 tho.

I believe there will be custom AIs that you'll be able to install on your computer. Windows is just the first company that is giving you a free one to use with direct OS integration, but as the technology advances, you should be able to just install a new AI and disable the one on Windows fairly easy just like drivers and firmware or antivirus programs.

Already did, twice, and the indexer/thumbnail cache is on my internal NVMe so I know that's not the bottleneck while it shows my 7200rpm drive at 100% usage for some fricking reason. I'm sure it's something MS broke in a W11 update since it didn't start off like this until a few months ago.

Nope. This wasn't a problem until the last few months and I've had this drive a few years now. Wasn't a problem on 10, and 11 initially. No SMART errors or any other signs of a dying drive (it functions fine for games/media that isn't File Explorer's search smashing MFT requests).
I just disabled TPM in the BIOS of a recent LTSC install so I wouldn't get the eventual nag messages to "upgrade" to W11. W7 ran fine until this point, biggest issue was the fricking nag message in chrome about how you NEED W10 that you had to disable with group policy edits.

Just install a VM and test it.
You could just add yet another drive and install Linux on the new drive if you have an empty SATA port somewhere. That would be the easiest way to do this. Alternatively, you could sort through the files on one drive and copy them to your other drives so you can either replace or partition that drive and install the new OS there.
Now, if you don't have any ports or docks open for expansion and you don't want to sort through your files at all, you could also install the OS on a new partition as in dual boot. There are many ways to do this but in this situation I think I'd use Windows Disk Management to shrink one of your current partitions, preferably picking a driver that doesn't have a Windows install on it; then you should be able to format the empty space on that drive and install a new OS there. This is an oversimplification, but you get the idea.

Operating systems don't matter outside of the software they are compatible with. In general, the next-from-newest Windows will be the best in this regard. Linux is actually okay, but its cultists oversell how okay it is.
my major problem with linux when I tried it in 2020 was the lack of proprietary NVIDIA drivers, which is an NVIDIA problem not a linux problem. without the drivers there was a bug that was unfixable, you had to set "prefer maximum performance" in the nvidia control panel or the system would hang until you restarted it about once a day, something about the GPU forcing the CPU into some sort of 0cycle core pattern that's only supposed to happen during hibernation and the CPU being unable to leave the cycle and in that cycle not having enough power throughput to run an OS.
