Taxed as frick, best to chase up a job for VIDYAGAEMS elsewhere in the world. Likewise with New Zealand, who is arguably even worse about it.

      >Taxed as frick
actually there's tax breaks for gamedev companies

the problem is you'll never get the initial funding for anything because it costs more to hire people for a 2 year project, screen australia only helps like 40k-100k, which isn't even 1 person's avg yearly salary, and it comes with various strings attached

Unfortunately this. I'm in NZ and Aus is the place most people go to get better wages and even then, it's pretty low for a first world country.
Also, if you think an open world game set in Australia would have unique biomes, I've got bad news for you. It's all just a big fricking desert with a few habitable fringes at the edges.
      It'd be boring as frick.
Like Red Faction, but without the buildings and shit, just a sea of red dust and rocks.

What about... get this... setting the game in an interesting spot? Or just making one up?
Ain't like there's many games that try to give you the entire north american continent as a play area, why the frick would you assume that's what anybody's asking for with australia?
Just get the spirit of it down and it's good enough.

So why even bother set it in Australia then? Just set it in some fictional land? Then you can do whatever you want.

It's like saying "why set it in japan?"
Nobody asking for the entirety of japan as a play area, just one cool bit of it. An island here, or a city there. Not all the mountains and rice paddies in between. Same with australia. Set it in this backwater town, or that rainforest tourist city, or that historic prison island or whatever. Just get the part that's cool and has the atmosphere people are asking for and you've got yourself an australian setting that scratches the itch.

      it’s fricked, mate
Jobs here want you to have 5-10 YOE just for entry level, and then you’ve got the entry level pay to match it. We’re also currently screaming towards a big recession that we’ve rebranded as “cost of living”, because our leaders are so inept and corrupt that 1L of milk now costs you $6-$7AUD. Your rent will be AT LEAST 60% of your income (now more like 66%), and if you don’t want to pay those exorbitant rates you’ll have the pleasure of a 2 hour commute, BOTH WAYS, on our fricked up australian roads. Did I mention it will cost you almost $1000 just to get your paperwork finalised so your car can even be driven on the road??

Then you have to deal with the australian corporate culture which is a mix of exported american wokeism and rabid feminism, with the entire funding & power of the state ready to go at a moments notice to frick your shit up if you even so much as look at a bush-Black person sideways. No matter how much you earn, you will NEVER afford a house here, as they generally go for $800k for 300sqm of land and a common wall with your pajeet neighbours. Our government officials are ALL pedophiles, as are our police, and we also endured some of the most communist, brutal lockdowns during covid which really woke the country up to what’s going on. Not that anything changed, but i digress.

You are NOT allowed to own the means of protecting yourself or your family, be it a rifle or a bat, and the state WILL threaten you at gunpoint until you acquiesce compliance like a good goy. The highest paying jobs here are in the mines, which is just nepotism turned up to 11, and unironically selling coke/weed to rich old buttholes that work for the government. There are ZERO opportunities here if you do not have connections, and ours is by far & large one of the worst totalitarian societies you could live in; the feds make the laws up as they go and the only laws that matter are the ones that are enforced upon you in the form of fines

It's a shame because we in NZ are in a similar predicament, but IMO, Aus and NZ are the two most beautiful places to live in the world. Our summers are glorious, our winters are mild, our beaches are world class, our tourism is incredible, our people are chill and friendly and we avoid a soulless urban sprawl by having a larger suburban living area that's relatively easy to get to the city.
It's just that we're getting royally fricked financially. If we managed to grow that sector, we'd be the greatest countries in the world.
This recession shit is fricking killing me. Can't we just robin hood from all the 1%ers on wall street to cover the cost of this? Steal from Musk and Bezos and co and use it to pay back all that shit?

Australia as a setting is kinda gay tbh.
if you've actually been out west it's largely just dirt and scrub, just large flat and dry, none of which makes for an interesting game location.
I cant think of a more boring location to set a game in tbh, it's the same reason all our movies about "the outback" suck, because there's frick all out there and the people out there are boring too.
that's the only unique thing we have, the other "biomes" are better in the rest of the world.

You mean like any Fallout game? That's obviously not the problem, and even if it was there's a lot more than desert on this continent y'know. Whole east coast is green, can't you see? Even something set in Tazzy could be sick. But it's not like the geographical setting is what makes any game good or interesting.

Sure, not livable though. Unless you're on the coast most of the land is mountainous, desert, barren grasslands, or rainforest. Most of the population lives closer to the edges of the continent and we don't have that big of a population to begin with.

Australia would make a great setting for an open world game. It is gigantic and has huge diversity in its environments. If you genuinely think Australia sucks then leave you fricking drongo

NTA but 99.95% of our landmass looks like this, and then the rest is slightly thicker thinner amounts of those trees, with some very rare places even having snow on them.
it's quite literally the worst possible place to set an open world game, unless that open world game was about driving around an empty environment.
I love it here, but inland sucks ass, and coastal is probably on average nicer than the rest of the world but there's not a ton of it and 1 season a year it's unbearable.

Ignorant post. It's just bizarre how people living in Australia think that it is a shit country and try to make it sound worse. Australia is actually one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, partly because of the extreme range of its biomes. We have literally every biome a country can have except taiga. Vast majority of people live coastal or bushy inland which is why people seem to think we don't have a beautiful environment but that's not true.

literally just Africa with a peppering of green.

I dont think it's shit, further Im good mates with an ecologist and I am well aware of our biodiversity,
I do think we're a boring setting for a video game because the things that would set the game apart from anywhere else in the world are the boring scrub deserts. when people think Australia they think this

not "montane grasslands and cold forests".

Everyone lives in cities. Boomers benefited from cheap housing and then turned housing into a commodity to build wealth for themselves and frick future generations. Maintaining property prices requires a constant flow of Chinese "investors" laundering their dirty money along with hordes of pajeets needing to rent houses. Therefore prices are always high. Rural areas in Australia have limited employment opportunities and shit infrastructure. Government could invest in high speed rail connections between cities and regional towns plus better internet and incentives to encourage industry in rural areas. This could take pressure of major cities and more people would build houses in other towns. But real estate israelites don't want that as it would cause prices to drop in the big cities and boomer pensions are tied up in real estate. So the government will never do this.

All of the major cities are just smaller versions of Sydney. Very clean but also very ... basic. Melbourne has more culture if you consider lots of asians and rainbow haired cucks to be "culture".

Perth is my favorite city. It's mostly known for being boring. But actually staying there for a while, you realise thats part of the charm. Brisbane...we don't talk about that.

personally, as someone who has lived all over australia, I think Perth is not just Boring, but the 'worst' place to live in Australia just because Perth and by Extension a lot of the surrounding areas, is extremely 'Americanized' in how they do things, especially when it comes to how they do their infrastructure, culture and Education.
Like, while the Eastern half of Australia has more in common culture-wize with various parts of Europe(mostly England), WA has a frickton more in common with American culture.

Hell in some places in WA even their accent is more like an american Accent than the usual Australian accent just due to how many Americans used to live there for mining purposes and shit like that

I won't argue about the "worst place to live" part, but I have no fricking idea where you're pulling all the other shit from. Infrastructure maybe. You absolutely need a car to live here. Culture and education though? There certainly feels like there's been more Americans here since the 2010s, but accent? Australia only really has one accent.

Australia has varying accents, its just quite often Extremely subtle where its quite often just the way certain words are pronounced, or the way that words are used, where most foreigners, or even a lot of Australians themselves will barely notice it
              like for example
              >NSW: usually more British in their mannerisms and way they use words, especially in the older towns
              >VIC: usually has less of that signature Australian sounding accent
              >QLD: Talks faster and tend to use more words than necessary
              >SA: talks slower and straight to the point
              >NT: usually is the stereotypical 'accent' that Hollywood loves to use for every Australian
              >WA: Usually Pronounces words more of the American way and uses a lot of American names/phrases for things
              >TAZ: honestly, never been there or met anyone from there so don't know

Australia is a nation entirely founded and settled by Britain and British people

Australians call British people who immigrate to Australia "poms", which is derived from a slang term for immigrant

They also call British people who did not immigrate to Australia "poms"

They do not call non-British immigrants poms but they call non-immigrant Brits poms

Therefore Australians (themselves British immigrants to Australia) hate other British people for immigrating to Australia, and extent that hatred to other British people who didn't immigrate to Australia, but do not extent that hatred to non-Brits who do not immigrate to Australia

So Australians descended from immigrant Brits call non-immigrant Brits "immigrants", and call non-British immigrants... Australian

It's basically Community College except way shittier and with a mixture of low tier trade pre-training included and a bunch of moronic shit like How to Use Excel and hairdressing and shit.

I didn't get either, because my Dad is a Dipshit who pulled me out of School to force me to get me a "good paying job" which was a labour intensive heavy Industrial job and now its impossible for me to change careers because I have no experience in the shit I actually would have loved to do, am competing with kids fresh out of school who get picked over me, and everyone else my age has like 8+ years of experience in those jobs

In the sense that I've met plenty of morons like you. Every pub, ever class, every breakroom, every club has one. You are the annoying little shit who can't keep his fricking hands from fiddling with his phone, because all you do is awkwardly try to sidle your way into people's good graces by shoving informative videos and stories under their noses and squealing 'WHADDYA THINK HUH? HUH? HUH?' People hate you, and at best barely tolerate you. You have no personality, you just desperately present other people's opinions and hope it impresses people.

Be a person for a change, not just someone who regurgitates whatever is on your feed. That's how you make friends pal. You actually have to grow up and be someone. Not just a social parasite.

Who is youtube? Is this a person I can talk to? Because you've linked at least a few random gurus with no expertise whatsoever. Essentially just taking the opinion of a random person on a soapbox as fact. Regardless of the opinion in question, that is pretty cringe, to the point where I'm not entirely sure you're not just spamming random youtube videos on an inflammatory topic just to troll and derail the thread.

tim sweeney is in australia right now?!
    >Epic also filed lawsuits in Australia in November 2020. The company says it picked Australia because of its favourable antitrust laws. All sides agree that the Australian case is extremely similar to what has played out in the US, and the trial here is dealing with the same issues.

    >Some of the companies’ top executives have already flown into Melbourne to appear in court in person, underscoring the seriousness of the event. Epic Games chief executive Tim Sweeney has touched down in Melbourne and is set to be joined by vice presidents from Apple and Google, including Apple fellow Phil Schiller and its senior vice president of software engineering, Craig Federighi.
