I've archived several hundred old magazine CDs, my friend had a shitton of CDs and DVDs, but they ALL LOOKED LIKE THAT. Some were unsalvagable, sometimes the toothpaste trick worked to make them temporarily readable so I was able to extract the files. The oldest CDs (unscratched) I had were over 20 years old at the time of archiving. Overall I'd say 5% were completely unreadable and 10 % were damaged and could only partially recovered. Oh yeah and archiving all that crap took me two summer vacations.
That's awesome, I loved those things. Played every demo to death. I remember playing the Diablo demo over and over again and having childish ideas like I might discover a way to access non-demo content.
not good as new, moron. It's a temporary fix that you use as a last resort to get the data off the CD. It's also also very unreliable and has like 35 % chance of working.
Aren't cd's made to be pretty sturdy? I had a super scratched used lego starwars disc as a kid and through years of playing it as a kid it only ever froze up twice if I recall correctly.
>having a CD >not ripping it >or atleast cracking and copying the instal folder away to something else >Because MUST WORSHIP CORPORATE BRANDED PLASTIC
I cant understand it, I've been doing this since I was 12
Being a sperg over physical media is especially moronic when it comes to vidya. There is no difference between the sets of 1s and 0s just because one was on an HDD and the other was on a crusty 30 year old cartridge or CD. And we even see this with people talking about game preservation as these mediums fail or the proprietary systems that use them do, both becoming more expensive with time as spergs drive up prices for old shit literally just because it's old.
For just about any other medium of entertainment there is an actual argument to be made. But for vidya it has to be the most shamefully unabashed autism in the entertainment industry.
Reminds me I need to get around to buying a proper disc resurfacing machine, I think I was looking at this JFJ easy pro machine a while back but never got around to ordering one.
Look after your shit man. damn.
the post that killed op.
yeah it's fixable, your point ?
> physically lost data
> fixable
Lol
>licks it
>wipes with shirt
>works like a charm
>runs like a horse
I mean yeah, its called a checksum
moron
>He doesn't know
Go back to playing fortnite fr fr
How?
Ask your parents to buy a new one
Works every time
there are products that exist to fill scratches, as long as only the plastic is damaged, which is the case in OP's picture

>implying pc games use optical discs
This homie haven't seen a pc since 1998 lmao
Toothpaste.
This would still work though. You should see some of the scratched CDs I have in my car burnt in like 2016 that still play
I never really liked your mother but she has such ass tbh
that was immature and unnecessary
But enough about your conception

>wasting space on HDs
>not pirating the game when the CD gets damaged
look at this idiot
>NO NO SEE YOU MUST WAIT FOR THE CD TO GET DAMAGED FIRST
and why would I do that?
because there's a high chance it won't get damaged and even hard drives are vulnerable to get damaged
>CDs wont get damaged
>HDs will
See? must worship corporate branded plastic.
There's just no conversing with you cultists

The next step in this evolution is digital archiving.
I barely have a reason to go back to my PS2 and PS3 since my PC can do their job now.
