Do you morons not know what a TOS is? It’s literally you agreeing to them being able to do shit on their platform. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean they’re breaking the law. And no im not defending this moronic shit but Im tired of morons not knowing what a TOS is and saying shit like “its not legally binding” like homie do you even know what that means

Depends on country. In my country, if you offer your services for sale, any TOS that would violate our laws is automatically invalidated. If the company can't agree to this, then simply do not offer the service.
TOS are a huge gray area when it comes to being legally binding. It's easy to say they are, but generally clickthrough versus clickwrap and the specific terms (and changes to them) are extremely relevant. Unilaterally revoking access to content without cause is probably not-enforceable on account of being unconscionable, even if there was actual agreement.
Unfortunately there are a lot of people who think all TOS are bullshit and a lot of people who think their word is law, but neither is correct. TOS are just really shitty contracts that typically have a variety of issues because they're not taken seriously.
In Europe it's pretty clear that if you paid for something oyu need to be able to keep the rights to use it or you have to fully refund them. That's why Europe keeps suing Steam or Nintendo online so much.
I guess we'll see how strong that law is. I don't think sony will be giving out refunds any time soon, certainly not in america.

It's hilarious to me that even people here don't realize that if you buy something on a service all it means is you bought the right to use it on that service and nothing else
Potentially but vidya companies are always above the law, the only ones held to any sort of standards are valve solely because powerful people are upset they aren't publicly traded and then valve is held to utterly unreasonable standards instead of the no standards everybody else is
they had (still have?) canal+ channel that would broadcast movies non stop back when satellite television was a big thing. they own rights to a shitload of old movies.
>TOS says Sony can straight up murder you >IT'S IN THE TOS, IT'S NOT ILLEGAL
Frickin morons.
You can't just contract your way above the law. If people cared, they could have filed a class action suit against Sony for having it in the TOS in the first place - but they didn't care until Snoy acted like Black folk.
Now it's going to bite them in the ass.
You think they didn't check with their legal team before making this decision? There's no law that says you're entitled to access a download forever. That would be impossible to enforce. Amazon took away people's books on kindle, this is not new. Companies know how to revoke things without getting in trouble.
Steam has already done this, multiple times. Their solution was to remove whatever they no longer had rights to from the store, so it could no longer be bought, but people who had already paid can still access their purchases (rentals?) no problem.
I can't recall hearing about them removing access to the files. Removed from the store, sure, but it's always been a case of "if you had it already, you can still download it".
I remember the one time some Argentinian (?) dudes fricked up the pricing and were selling some software dirt cheap. I think it was Sony Vegas. They removed it from people's accounts. But that's more of an exception than a rule.
Hey I was one of those argies lol. It's true they fricked up the pricing and revoked access to the software and refunded the money. But the money went to the steam wallet instead of your card of course.
They've completely removed games before, to the point that you can't download it if you bought it. Think one was called Stalin vs aliens or something like that.
I was fine with no games on playstation but now there will be no movies either? They have finally overstepped the line. I will be making an online petition over this.
You know what I changed my mind, when I first saw this thread I thought Sony were homosexuals for doing this but then I was reminded how subhuman EU bootlickers are so now I say go Sony.
It looks like they made deals with studios as if they were a streaming site and but sold the movies to customers as if they were a storefront. It doesn't take a lot for me to disapprove of the Cali HQ's decision making but this is fricked.
>people defending snoy's tos """"""""rights"""" >when they did very shady things with it on the past, like installing rootkits before you can even decline the tos
Why? If there is one company that doesn' deserve having ToS is Sony.
the second im affected by this a single time i will never make a digital purchase again, ofc i only use a few selected stores like steam and gog anyway
Why would you even sign up for a service if it has 200 pages of TOS, why not just not get the service? If the only way to eat at a restaurant was to follow 200 pages worth of rules I would eat somewhere else
Why even say this when you've definitely agreed to more TOS than you can count without reading them? It's something you can't avoid in the modern age since pretty much everything has a TOS and it's why they're complete bullshit.
IT IS OK WHEN SONY DOES IT! IT IS OK WHEN SONY DOES IT! IT IS OK WHEN SONY DOES IT! IT IS OK WHEN SONY DOES IT! IT IS OK WHEN SONY DOES IT! IT IS OK WHEN SONY DOES IT! IT IS OK WHEN SONY DOES IT!
Like with any other instance of "You will own nothing and be happy," at least you can counter by saying there are explicit terms you are agreeing to that, theoretically, exist on both sides of the transaction (when you buy a Game Pass sub, for example, you do so knowing games are on a rotating schedule and do get dropped after awhile).
This is just flat out lying and a "frick you". When you purchase a digital license the understanding is that unless there was an absolute shutdown of the server you downloaded it from (and even then there should be provisions, like what Valve has said will theoretically happen should Steam go permanently dark) that your entitlement to that content is perpetual. Revoking that most basic understanding of digital licensing without offering some measure of recompense is worthy of litigation, hands down.
>buying digital
I'm convinced at this point the only reason video games don't do this much is because the industry is waiting until everything's completely digital. Don't fall for it.
I'd like to know why a company would end download rights for something, though. It takes up too much server space to warehouse so they delete it to replace it with something else?
To revoke download rights to software arbitrarily seems needless.
Could be a number of things. The rightsholder could decide it's just not profitable to sell anymore. Maybe a licensing dispute. Maybe they woke up that day and decided it offended the wrong people and pulled it. Maybe they want to sell a new edition to you, instead, for twice the price.
Regardless, allowing the market to go digitally exclusive is allowing that kind of control over content. Don't fall for it.
I'm done buying video games for the most part until I can get some assurances... real assurance. You can pirate most things and for everything you can't, there is some other game similar to it that you can play instead. I'll start buying when I can get a physical purchase option again. >t.34
Most worthwhile games still get physical editions, thankfully. But I'm right there with you, that's the only way I buy.
Good thing I don't have a PS5 or intend to buy one. Series X and Switch are in kind of similar boats. While you can more easily replace the drives on a physical level, there's still a software level complicating things. Maybe that'll be a non-issue by the time it becomes a necessity. God, I hope.
To SELL, not to continue to offer for download to anyone who had already bought it. Why would a company do that?
Like I have The Legend of Korra in my Steam library. It's not for sale anymore but I never lost the rights to put it back on my PC. What would compel a company to not even allow that?
It's the same sort of reasons. Because they CAN do it and they want to deny you those rights for any of the above. The move towards digital distribution and streaming primarily about control.
Control what, though? Disabling your download license because they have the right to but otherwise don't justify it is nonsensical. It's breaking the cardinal rule of what digital distribution is supposed to function as, even though I do concede it is their rule to break.

Control your right to use the content. That should be obvious. Control freaks are hardly ever logical about their behavior.
To SELL, not to continue to offer for download to anyone who had already bought it. Why would a company do that?
Like I have The Legend of Korra in my Steam library. It's not for sale anymore but I never lost the rights to put it back on my PC. What would compel a company to not even allow that?
Apparently the movies were sold as stream-on-demand, so they had to pay every time someone watched. This is only in Germany and Austria, perhaps they have some odd laws there?
I'm done buying video games for the most part until I can get some assurances... real assurance. You can pirate most things and for everything you can't, there is some other game similar to it that you can play instead. I'll start buying when I can get a physical purchase option again. >t.34
Didn't playstation already remove the ability to buy and rent movies like 2 years ago???? Is it really that much of a shock that they're slowly deleting that shit off their host servers as their rights for the properties end?
Yes but it's a bit of a dick move with them saying they're gonna retroactively remove the content from peoples accounts. >mfw have a few gigs of pirated movies stored on my ps3
Only "movie" content I ever bought was a few free episodes of tv shows over the years
You have the choice to stream it or download it. You only have that choice once. So since I picked stream, it meant that I could never download it. It is the shittiest video service I've ever seen.
It was some animated Dante's Inferno thing my then-gf wanted to watch. It was kind of cool.

Good thing I don't have a PS5 or intend to buy one. Series X and Switch are in kind of similar boats. While you can more easily replace the drives on a physical level, there's still a software level complicating things. Maybe that'll be a non-issue by the time it becomes a necessity. God, I hope.
So I own nothing and am NOT happy.
I'll start buying when I can get a physical purchase option again.
>t.34
They are waiting till piracy is erased from the minds of the normie Black personcattle.
HE BOUGHT PLAYSTATION MOVIE GAMES
Didn't playstation already remove the ability to buy and rent movies like 2 years ago???? Is it really that much of a shock that they're slowly deleting that shit off their host servers as their rights for the properties end?
Yes but it's a bit of a dick move with them saying they're gonna retroactively remove the content from peoples accounts.
>mfw have a few gigs of pirated movies stored on my ps3
Only "movie" content I ever bought was a few free episodes of tv shows over the years
Remember who you serve, snoys.
I bought a movie one time years ago for my PS3.
You have the choice to stream it or download it. You only have that choice once. So since I picked stream, it meant that I could never download it. It is the shittiest video service I've ever seen.
It was some animated Dante's Inferno thing my then-gf wanted to watch. It was kind of cool.
They don't have spider man no mo
Again Microsoft was the first to introduce digital movies on the game console marketplace. Sony realized it was a mistake and went back to selling games only. Microsoft is the root of all evil, and Nintendo and valve are just shitty companies
>t. delusional snoygger
Stay obsessed Black folk, keep wasting all your tike on Ganker. You don't play games Black person face it, people with PS5 are playing games, you gays are on // crying about the snoys
Cope harder, your physicals are worthless. You don't own anything.
At least I didn't spend my life hating on a video game company. You're sad and pathetic Black person
lmao stay mad snoygger
I'm not mad, I have games to play. PS5 is fricking amazing. Sorry you bought a piece of shit with no games. You really think Microsoft Valve and Nintendo are so innocent and Sony is the bad guy? I wish Sony would go bankrupt just to spite you cause you'll be wishing they come back
>I'm not mad, I have games to play. PS5 is fricking amazing.
Yeah I'd probably buy that if you were actually playing games instead of being a console warrior homosexual on Ganker.
I'm literally booting the game right now, but you continue to be asshurt. Goodbye
Sure now that I mentioned it you are, you could have just done that in the first place but you chose to argue on Ganker instead.
Cause I love disrupting your little homosexual circle jerk, sorry I ruined your fun. Next time try playing a game for fun
You said you were going to go play a game but you came back to argue more instead. Says quite a bit about the quality of sony if you prefer arguing on Ganker over playing their games.
I'm playing Nintendo right now. The game is so easy I can' shitpost Ganker at the same time
So you lied when you said you were booting up and going to play a PS5 game? Why should I believe you now?
Why should I believe you? Why should we even bring up believing? Do you really believe? I have some questions I would like to ask you, deep, .
You're having some kind of mental breakdown. You should probably get help.
You ain't shit homie. Sony is on your mind all the time. It's not good to hate a company bro much, it's not good to hate , you need help.
Who said anything about hate? I just said sony was shit. You're the one who's hating on me, niqqa.
Sorry I meant playing games on my PS5. I meant to post that reply in the Nintendo thread
So by your own logic, you have no games to play on your own platform?
I would be playing more redout 2 if I wasn't at work.
>I'm not mad, I have games to play. PS5 is fricking amazing.
>games
>plural
The other companies are worse than Sony but you failed to point it out, I could give you examples but I don't want to waste my time, I'm just here to call you a homosexual
>won't refute cuz I am a lazy homosexual.
I accept your concession
I just don't care, I want to play god of war, not banter with homosexuals all day. Arguing with you homosexuals is a waste of tike, you ignore facts. I've been beating you Black folk out for over a decade
10 games is better than 0 games from valve, Microsoft and Nintendo. I wish Nintendo had 10 games
>b-but Microsoft did it first! They're the real evil!
You Snoyhomos do this every single time. Same exact line used when Sony switched to paid online.
Why are they removing those movies anyway?
the last 3 consoles i owned are ps3/360/wii , if i got anything would be from nintendo because its the least "pc wannabe"
>zero matching images found
What's this from?
anon.. i..
Yeah, I just finished watching the video and now I feel stupid. Good thing I'm anonymous so no one else will ever know.
>MANDATORY
The future will be there to suffer you more. :^)
And that's why piracy exists.
>In a move that will undoubtedly draw severe criticism from the 3 users that actually bought movies on the PlayStation store.
>The list of Studiocanal-distributed titles that will be removed include 314 in Germany and 137 in Austria. Those include Studiocanal-financed films like “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy,” the two “Paddington” movies, “Non Stop” and “Shaun the Sheep Movie.” In addition, the titles that will no longer be available to PlayStation Store customers in Germany and Austria include multiple Lionsgate movies, including the “Hunger Games” series, “John Wick” starring Keanu Reeves and the “Saw” series.
The only movie I own on PSN is Final Fantasy Spirits Within due to a FFXII TZA promotion so this doesn't affect me at all, but also kek imagine thinking digital is ever a long-term solution
If you really wanna buy movies, better start collecting Blu-Rays
Only thing not shown is Belle because I lent it to a friend
dunno why this posted in landscape but whatever, that works too
Friendly. Absolutely gentle and friendly reminder that this board, and quite possibly people in this very thread, shill Steam to no end.
