I usually play nimble assassin-ish classes OR the class with the biggest fricking weapon, depending on how I feel. I never liked casters, or ranged in general.
In WoW specifically I play healers, because it's the only game that was able to make healing fun. Holy Paladin in Retail is great.

It isn't even THAT meme build, you can farm with it if you also have a professor (to give you mana after asura strike) and a priest (to heal the professor after he gives you mana and health converts himself to death).

how's the red mage in ff14 vs ff11 if you've played both?

I never played 11, but I was so disappointed when I tried Red Mage in 14. I assume it was a true hybrid class, like in the single-player FF games. But in reality it's the second most boring and unimaginative caster ever designed in a videogame, first place goes to mages in Lineage 2 rofl.
All you do is fill-up a meter by casting the same two abilities over on over for a minute, fill up a meter, dump that meter by casting THREE melee attacks, and then you go back to casting for another minute. What the frick is this?!

My zoomer friend... Classic was dying during vanilla and officially died during TBC. 14 doesn't have a support role, it runs the basic trinity, so it's essentially just a normal DPS in design. I believe they tried to emulate the jobs appearance in older FF titles so it doesn't really share much with the 11 version.

I haven't gotten to play it in anything but one game, but Blue Mage is my favorite. It being so versatile and traits changing depending on which spells and abilities you equip makes it the most interesting class I've seen in a MMORPG. ESO Necro Health Tank because I can live the fantasy of a necromancer while also playing a tank, the only 3 of the holy trinity I play.
New Arcanist Tank is fun, but though it hasnt gotten its nerfs yet.

Retail WoW it would be Blood DK, blood sacrifice thematic reasons, great solo and looks fricking cool.
Veng DH is also neat, much prefer plate but the added mobility for the offset with Leather makes up for it. Solo viability also.
Ascension WoW I run a solo parry tank/DPS hybrid that focuses on healing from bleeds because I can take Titans Grip, which is what I wish I could run in every game I play. Dual Wielding 2H weapons. Group content I switch to a stronger version of Prot Paladin.

SWTOR Sith Juggernaut, though that was pre rework and opening up the class systems. Would dual wield lightsabers now if I played.

I tend to have a specific archetype or set of themes I always build into, and its always tank focused. Love me the evil.

Every single class in RO is so fricking cool. Because they didn't give a shit about balance or fairness, they just designed the coolest abilities they could think of. Same with gear, some cards had crazy effects.
Imagine adding a card that makes you immune to ALL magic effects. But it's a 0.01% drop from a boss that respawns once every two hours. It was like those "you're teleported into an MMO world!!" animes... but the actual game is like this. If someone finds a GTB card, the entire server knows: he is THE guy who is immune to magic.

The last time I played, Cursed Monastery was considered a new dungeon. So... what was a long time ago. I have no idea what happened to the game after that.

Does Guild Wars count as an MMO? All of its classes were amazing, but Monk was hilarious from the get-go and Protective Spirit made some very interesting tactics (at the time, at least) possible.

I played Age of Conan very briefly, but it had a melee healer that healed by whacking enemies. That was fun.

The magic is gone, for you because you grew older but stuck with the exact same game expecting it to somehow give you a different experience. You changed but refused to move on.

Nah the private servers hit exactly the same. It's basically all in the amount of miserable minmaxing autists. The more people that just want to have fun, the more the magic returns.

          Anonymous

I'll agree with you on that, minmaxing gays ruin the atmosphere of mmo's. They keep talking about "I do this because I don't want my time wasted" then spend 30k hours over 20 years in the same fricking game. Imagine instead of being completely sweaty, minmaxing, being a turbo autist they spent that time enjoying the atmosphere, the journey, having fun.
MMO's are always going to be plagued by these complete homosexuals, part of me thinks the solution is to remove shit like raids completely if you have an mmo so you don't get these c**ts sweating out the game then going on Twitter or the forums and complaining or making videos and crying about how this class is unbalanced because it does 1% more dps than this other class.

            >remove shit like raids completely
Final bosses are a staple of videogames for a reason. The "journey" sucks if there's no goal or final destination.

              Anonymous

No, this isn't true at all. In Lord of the Rings they don't even fight Sauron in the end but guess what? It didn't matter because it was all about the journey.
If you can't make the journey a fun experience your mmo is a failure which is why New World failed, Lost Ark failed and every new MMO that releases, which follow the old mantra of raids and poopsocking endgame being the content and having a mediocre journey will all fail.

                >If you can't make the journey a fun experience your mmo is a failure
Well, for me if there's no journey it's barely even an MMO. It's a Monster Hunter-like. Which doesn't mean it's a bad videogame, but it's not an MMO.

Hey dipshit, it's what Vanilla WoW was based on. It's pretty damning evidence that when WoW deviated from that original design philosophy of the Tolkien Journey, and turned it into raid logging is when the game went to complete shit and fell off.

For WoW or for RPG's in general?

Well - the answer is pretty much the same every time regardless
    >FOR GAMEPLAY
    >Warrior / Knight / Barbarian / Paladin (sometimes)
I like being the big moron who hits shit really, really hard. I don't need complex bullshit. I just want to hit really hard with a huge sword or axe or hammer.
I don't really care much for what that entails. Just as long as I can get up close to someone and then hit them really, really hard. With a big weapon. I could be a Knight in shining armor or a Paladin or a Barbarian. It doesn't really matter.

Thematically - I like the idea of edgy stuff. Like Necromancy or Warlocks or some kind of Shadow Magic Assassin or something. But I rarely ever have the patience for that kind of playstyle. Everytime I try it, I end up just running in and dying or playing it wrong and I end up wishing I could just hit people again.

Spellblades, but almost no game in existence does them right. They're always either too much mage or too much warrior. Enhancement Shaman gets close, but the fantasy is different as a Shaman. I want to be an arcane enhancer, not a nature enhancer.

Oh man, I was so disappointed with mining when I tried EVE Online.
      >mining in space, so cool!

How the frick does it work anyway, how does shooting laser at the asteroid "mine" it?

        Anonymous

Fractures the asteroid with laser pulses and tractors in the shards.

And yeah, mining is only really great for large fleets when you have a foreman directing things with scouts and haulers to back things up. Just showing up at an asteroid belt anywhere and mining cheap, plentiful ore solo is pretty soul crushing, it looks like you never make progress in cutting the belt down to size nor does your cargohold fill up with any real speed.

Is there even a SINGLE reason to play EVE solo?

            Anonymous

Basically none. I played solo off and on from 2013 on forward because I just like to log in occasionally to shoot npc ships in space and collect the loot with different ships. Then in 2021 I decided to actually try and start up a group again so I could do higher end content like I used to.

Playing solo just handicaps you too much for just about anything in the game, there's a few things worth doing solo in the game but the majority is far more efficient and fun with people. Although CCP did add the Abyss which is for solo, duo, or trio players to do.

I've played since vanilla, quit in cataclysm and have come back to sample the classes, leveling, and current endgame content once per expansion until Legion.

The best MMO class of all time is hyper specifically launch DPS demon hunters. The momentum build.

    Momentum build is as follows:
    >Demon Hunters have 3 movement abilities, 2 charges of a dash and a backflip, momentum made it so that you do 50% more damage for a few seconds after using one of these abilities
    >Auto attacks generate your resources, once you reach a critical mass in certain stats you are guaranteed to never run out
    >Only one spender move, glaive throw that applies a bleed, and a few neat cooldown moves
    >Keyboard DDR rotation is essentially non consideration, keep your bleed up and go momentum triggering ability->spender x2
    >Entire gameplan comes from positioning in the fight instead of from your rotation like every other MMO class in existence, feels like a pseudo action game

    [...]

nukes it from the game because Pajeets keep disconnecting from the server every other time they use fel rush or the backflip
I will never forgive Blizzard, the Legion content was still pretty good after Momentum build DH got gutted but I just couldn't stomach playing as Nemesis build DH. The literal only reason I didn't sample Shadowlands/BFA/etc is I know my Demon Hunter would just suck to play

I fricking love the idea of fighting by dancing about. Feels like you're doing the ultimate disrespect of your foe by seemingly not taking the fight seriously.

I also greatly loved Tera's Berserker. Big axe go bonk and the whole class was all about making those meaty charged up attacks. I'd say i like the idea of it more than Dancer, but it's not something you'll ever really see outside of Tera.
