It's not as unforgiving as 2, it's not as linear as 3, and it has a retelling of pikmin 1 built in as a side game, the only problem i had with it, is that it's too easy, but expecting a nintendo game to be hard is like expecting a bluey fan to be a child, it's possible but unlikely.
I think the roughest it gets is equivalent to frontier cavern with some of the later caves though there are a few cool and interestingly designed sections, the choice to have an inventory trumps difficulty, so now instead of bitter sprays, you throw a frick ton of bombs at whatever's in your way.
I like being able to jump with him and him being able to sniff out treasure, but I dislike everything else, he trivializes travelling and pikmin speed/flower management, water means nothing, charging is broken as hell, overall not a good addition to the game
