I think in the original bg I kits weren't designed yet for fighter, paladin, druid, etc.
Should have just made him a fighter with charm animals instead but I think they wanted 1 more ranger since there's already 4 fighters
Tansheron's Bow +3, can generate it's own ammunition so you can stack ammunition into it for more damage. Plus it's an early weapon you can hit most enemies barring demi liches and you don't get +3 arrows until ToB
Yeah, shame there's not more ranged weapons that generates it's own ammunition besides those two and firetooth. Then I'd pick Tuigan just because I like giving darkfire to fighters who can use it to cause improved haste on themselves midfight. Plus the bowstring of gond is used for upgrading firetooth too so I use it there instead of darkfire.
I'd say none of them because all the fighter type classes except for mazzy want to melee. Valygar wants to backstab since that's most of the benefit of a stalker, Dorn and Minsc wants to front line with AoF and DoE since spells are a big part of what Rangers and Paladins get over normal fighters, Sarevok comes too late to put points in longbow, and Korgan is Korgan. Oh yeah and Rassad can't use bows. You could Turn everyone into an archer and make a meme 5 man archer team with one guy to agro though.
Keldorn might want to since with AoF he's not as tanky, same as Mazzy, but there's no longbow that generates it's own ammo and the best damage you can get is stacking ammo into a weapon that already generates it's own because the damage adds together.
>Characters regularly getting stuck on geography while you're taking a long route to leave a dungeon >Go fight one enemy that casts fear and suddenly the AI is capable of threading the needle and pixel-perfectly leaving into the one corridor still filled with enemies.
Is anyone willing to hear my plea? Anyone...? You all know me—I've helped some of you...! Is this the thanks I get...? I've helped lots of your *kind*!
Being extremely generous: Let's assume Nalia has basically unpoored some people (not just given them a bit of pocket money which is nice and probably what she did but we don't know for certain) into the middle class.
What she's vaguely asking in return is to untroll an entire castle. Also it has umber hulks and she knows this. What fucking help was she expecting? It's a miracle six assorted 9-15leveled party members just happened to be in the city at the time.
Her romance mod actually has a ball with that. She legit wants to help people, but is way over her head and most of the time she has no idea what she's doing, being almost cripplingly naive.
It does and even the original characterisation covers that she's genuine just appallingly naive, but god damn. You'd think whatever his fucking name was from the house guard would have gone "LITSTEN BI- I MEAN UH MISS NALIA, DON'T GO GET YOUR POORFRIENDS, DON'T GO BEGGING FOR A CRUMB OF ADVENTURERS DOING A MODULE. GO GET REAL HELP." or something.
Then again, maybe that's exactly what he did since the best way to get help in in this world is to stand around in an inn and speak loudly of your problem. I mean it worked.
There's also a red dragon in disguise standing in the same inn. Inns and taverns in Forgotten Realms apparently are just considerably more important and exciting places than bars and pubs are in our world.

Enh, there's what: mr """Underhill""", Nalia, Conan the Slavebreaker, you can pick up the angry midget there, find out Jaheira probably fucked the innkeeper (nah just kidding) The pitfights. Technically that one harridan complaining her husband is whoring again.
It's pretty hopping but not even the most insane concentration of people who need help in terms of a D&D campaign. Solid 5/10.

Presumably Firkraag had been following you for a while and knew of your escape from Irenicus dungeon? Don't remember much about that part. My headcanon is that his presence there couldn't have been sheer coincidence
You know what would happen if I tried to help, me a bloke from the slums? I'd fuckin' die and be eaten by trolls, and her castle would still be overrun. I know she's meant to be naïve but she's bordering on stupid as well as patronizing.
Fun fact, if you keep turning her down and take too long to save her Keep, she eventually ditches you and tries to solve the problem by herself. It goes exactly as you'd expect. You find her dead body near the Keep gates.
Guys I do my another BG run and want to choose a other romance this time. All my life i fucked Aerie but now I will steals Khalids wife. Is it worth it?
You fucked Aerie, literally anything else is worth it. Enjoy Jaheria just fucking disappearing to """"find herself/get her elfbox morally pounded by Elminister"""" multiple times
I don't think that counts as stealing anyone's wife, you're merely comforting the local widow. But yeah it takes a pretty long amount of time to complete it so you can't rush your way through the story.
It's good but veeeeery slow, both mechanically and storywise. And it's prone to stalling, because it runs consecutively with her sidequest. In the end it's less about happy sexy romance times, and more about a sad widow being unable to move on from her dead husband for 40 hours.
>So I can't fuck her desperate hole?
You get to fuck her eventually
Guys, BG3 is going to suck, isn't it?
It's going to be a buggy, rushed mess where all the companions are cartoonishly evil or cartoonishly good, right?
Yeah... that's just not canon. Not a canon I'm accepting at least. That's just another druid with the same name. I mean a lot can happen in 100-something years. Jaheira is not that unique of a name. Not the same person. Nope.

We don't have that confirmed for sure, as far as I know. Regardless I doubt this was supposed to be a thinly hidden BG3-is-going-to-suck thread so I'll leave it at that.
You only fuck at the veeeery end of her romance arc. There is a chance, you won't ever get that far because by then you'll probably finish SoA twice over.
God knows I never did.
Guys, BG3 is going to suck, isn't it?
It's going to be a buggy, rushed mess where all the companions are cartoonishly evil or cartoonishly good, right?
it'll be 10x better mechanically than the original games, and 10x worse in writing, which is saying a lot since the writing in the first two games isn't good, jus verbose.
just gotta pretend it's icewind dale 3 or something
>also, bg 1 and 2 were also complete shit mechanically, don't act like 99% of the game wasn't just watching your party autoattack.
But this was the comfy part. Just autoattack and doing skills and spells on harder enemies/bosses.
i dunno anon, I played old rpgs to you know, roleplay, which is why icewind dale sucked
I want to think and strategize, not just autoattack and occasionally throw a spell out for AOE or CC.

But you already doing auto attack in most old dungeon crawlers.
This is one of the core elements that made old games charming.
Same goes for JRPGs. It's fun and fast to "ATTACK" enemies in old JRPGs like Dragon Quest or Phantasy Star.
In modern JRPGs you need to do all the crazy shit like crack the defense of enemies or powering yourself up with special attacks. Even on simple enemies. (Octopath, Resonance of Fate, etc.) It gets so exhausting after some time.
I had the same issue with D:OS1 and especially with 2. Every fight was artificial and forced.

you aren't meant to be playing RPGs if you can't imagine what's going on in them
It's the writing I'm most horrified about. Larian was never good on that front. Sure, BG games weren't Torment, but they had a very wholesome atmosphere to them, charming companions and some solid worldbuilding. Larian is not really interested in that, they treat story and companions as a way to crack silly jokes.
from the beta, it seems.. .fine, ish. the companions are a bit cheesy, but so were BG's, so. The story beats seem similarly serious, there's just less olde english style writing.
Anonymous
But the BG companions were at least likeable. I can't say that about BG3 companions. Like "Shadowheart is the least shit" is probably the highest complement I can give them.
I still think that Larian was a very bad pick for a BG3 game. It's like with Bethesda taking over Fallout. Their strenghts as a dev team are not complimentary to what Baldur's Gate is.
I know the obvious answer would be to leave BG untouched but what developer do you believe could be suitable for the task? I'd say Beamdog could've had an even worse reception if they were given the helm. After what happened with the enhanced editions and their expansion.
It really is dry out there for RPG developers. Bethesda is dogshit, Obsidian is washed up, Bioware is completely fucked...
Honestly? I'd let CD Projekt Red try it. Cyberpunk and Witcher both had plenty of issues, but the writing wasn't one of them.
Maybe some new, up-and-coming studio?
Back in the day, I actually wouldn't mind CDProjekt RED snatching the project. Like, they won't do it themselves, most likely, but they have a bunch of smaller cRPG studios, like Fool's Theory, working under them and Poles would KILL for a chance to make a successor to BG games. They worked intently with Bioware after all, back in the day.
Besides leaving it untouched, there is now a very obvious answer if the development had started later. I mean, change the UI color and names and this exchange
Idk why Ganker hates on Larian so much as of BG3 being in development, but I think it's a very promising game and it's one of the rare instances of me being excited for an upcoming release as your typical jaded RPG player.
When else are we going to get another Forgotten Realms game with some good content, well made turn based combat and actual reactivity in dialogue and choices? For all this board's hate, nobody can deny BG3 has shown to have all these. And there's no other devs coming out with anything close to this, at least not for D&D based games.
And yes the main plot will probably be dumb as shit, but to me that's secondary in an RPG that can deliver on replayability, good gameplay and content.
Hey there, hi there!
Hop skip to it!
With a smile!
C'mon, people, now, smile on your brother! Everybody get together; try to love one another right now!
Why in the actual fuck did Beamdog make him Lawful GOOD instead of Lawful Neutral as he was originally? Also, why were all the ToB portraits (barring sarevok) super low res?
That's not on Beamdog, that's on Bioware. There AREN'T any hi-res portraits for the Five, Amelyssan, Irenicus, Ellesime or Bodhi, because Bioware didn't need them, so they didn't make them.
Which leads to obvious problems where you wish to use those portraits for something else small attachements to dialogues.
I guess, Beamdog could try to upscale them, but I have a feeling that would work even worse.
>There AREN'T any hi-res portraits for the Five, Amelyssan, Irenicus, Ellesime or Bodhi
That's so weird. Wouldn't the artist have drawn a proper res image? I know Bodhi is from the wallpaper.
He's pretty good
His monks and mercenaries were running around killing people
>Wouldn't the artist have drawn a proper res image?
Granted, it's been 20 years. The chances of him still having them somewhere for the hell of it are rather small.
He said sorry about his army when you confront him. that's pretty good.
He's the road paved with good intention type character, was good ruler before bhaalspawn fighting, felt the need to defeat all the spawn and their armies to stop all the destruction. He didn't stop the civilian oppression in his town for whatever reason but he was willing to kill himself to stop further bhaal related problems (wouldn't work but monks aren't very smart.)
Also Beamdog did some retarded AI shit to the artwork, half the details are blurred and they redrew the face to be way more generic monster. More annoyingly, it's nearly totally replaced the original, which I found very hard to find in any way decent resolution, let alone anything like the original there would have been.
I always wondered if Bodhi was supposed to have that troll doll hair, or was it just a an artist doing a dynamic pose with flowing hair, and then everybody just misinterpreted it?
There is art of her in the BG2 collectors edition, I got it recently but the one that was missing was Bodhi. Is this the original art? Not sure why the fuck Beamdog would change it or think they know better, reminds me of the Demons Souls demake

They had to redo it because it's 1998 CG and the original files are long gone so you can't remaster them. And they're not going to do a Blizzard Diablo 2 remaster where they recreate the cinematics, you're getting the old digital paintings with some zooming in and out bullshit.

There is entire saga worth telling about elven height and the confusion about it coming from TSR/WotC. It actually varies from edition to edition and there is a slight bleed-in from Greyhawk as well.

Christ. As an artist myself, I hate so much of the modern fantasy splash art, this hyper-smoothly rendered look, which of course goes along with the trend of slimming down/covering up characters like Bodhi. The difference between the two images is staggering, not in terms of skill but rather charm and style.
Fuck this, I will always make great artists my point of reference, not this League of Legends looking bullshit. (Pic related)
It's not about the talent or skill. It's about corporate-enforced trends. This is the art from new 5e Planescape module, because of course there is a Planescape module, that's one setting that WotC hasn't run to the ground yet.
It's drawn by the same guy responsible by the art in original AD&D Planescape - Tony DiTerlizzi. The difference is night and day.

Yeah, the very fact that the game DOES NOT give you a choice as to what to do with Haxxat is damning. But that's the issue with all the EE companions. Beamdog was so sure you will be so enamoured with the new companions, you will never want to turn them down, so they almost never give you an option.
You can say no to rassad and dorn pretty easy. Most of the time I kill Dorn anyway because if anomen or keldorn are in your party they attack him and you if Dorn's quest is accepted. Hexxat is pretty exceptional irritating though.
Yes, but before you get to the "telling Dorn to fuck off" part, the game feels that it needa to serve you an entire cutscene where he solos the entire army of goons by himself, while throwing cheesy one-liners, because HE'S JUST THAT COOL, RITE GUYS?
He's nowhere near as powerful in the game and in fact he folds like a tissue paper when made to fight more than one enemy at the time. So Beamdog is also guilty of false advertising.
Oh right, forgot about that in BG 1. That was very bad. Beamdog liked their ingame cut scenes a little too much. Same thing with Neera in BG 2 where you have to watch her teleport in and out. At least in BG 1 it's just a normal conversation you can click through.
>the game DOES NOT give you a choice as to what to do with Haxxat is damning.
You mean the fake or real one? Cause for the latter you can straight up kill her the first time you meet.
I feel like the games pushes you to take her a little harder then the other EE companions though, plus you can't stake her and it takes an entire quest just to get to her..
I just find it weird that there are fans who can write mods that not only feel that they belong in BG, they also are well integrated, you almost can't tell the difference. De'Arnise Romance or Isra are a good example, especially the former. Beamdog NPCs stick out like a sore thumb, because they break all the established mod NPCs rules.
No parethesis, no unnecessary cutscenes, no forced dialogue, RL timed dialogue instead of in-game clock dialogue, Bodhi kidnap scenes, Tree of Life scene, Wraith scene. That's the bare minimum. Beamdog's NPCs go out of their way to mess up almost all of those.

Dorn's introduction in BG1 was really out of place. It's an interactive cutscene LARPing as a fight in a game where that never happens.
For Dorn at least his cutscene only starts if you talk to him in the friendly arm inn, I haven't talked to him since the first play through I made years ago and the time I tried to get him in BG 2 to get his silver dragon armor anomen was in my party. So there's that at least, better then how Neera in BG 2 was where you'll get her scene regardless of what you do.
The only ascension playthrough I've done is as a solo F/M/T turning the game into an action rpg which was quite fun. I remember I didn't have the spell slots to spam protection from magical weapons and lacked 9th level spells for the final fight so I just spammed the ravanger transformation and abused its regen. The problem was one of the demons Amelyssan summons inflicts a thaco penalty on hit so the fight lasted over a hour because they couldn't kill me and I couldn't hit them.

Technically, they do that with Sarevok vs Gorion fight during the prologue and in BG2 with Irenicus casting spells that don't exist with a speed that's mechanically impossible. And even then Sarevok vs Gorion fight is mostly "legit" outside of the fact that Gorion is programmed to die after a few turns and sometimes gibs even if Sarevok fails to hit him.
But there is a slight difference between Dorn and fucking Sarevok and Irenicus.

The Sarevok fight in BG1 is fine since it's a scripted fight you're not supposed to be participating in. Dorn's is stupid because it wants to be a regular cutscene, but then it has you killing some archers while Dorn unga bungas his way to the named NPCs. It doesn't know if it wants to be a lengthy and non-interactive intro to a "badass" NPC you're supposed to be interested in or a proper fight.
>the game DOES NOT give you a choice as to what to do with Haxxat is damning.
You mean the fake or real one? Cause for the latter you can straight up kill her the first time you meet.
Might have been changed in a version before I bought the game, but when I played it I could kill her with the sequence of events that went something like >"meet me in the next chamber" >"Where is dragomir's cloak?" >"It's charname's cloak now!" >"give it to me" >"no" >fight, Hexxat dies
I'm playing EE for the first time right now and had the girl in Beregost force herself upon me and just those few seconds were so fucking irritating I can't imagine how anyone could possibly think someone would want to spend the entire game with her. And I say this as someone who has played with most companion mods over the years. Even in a game with as many pop culture references as BG, her way of speaking immediately stuck out as something that doesn't belong.
>only romance mod that exists turns her into an annoying tumblr user and puts a lot of focus on her romancing other companions
Did you expect anything else from DnD players? It always attracts the most liberal gays
I actually find it slightly easier with Ascension. Because I don't think that the pools were restoring you in the original game? So despite fighting Irenicus+Bodhi+cray cray Imoen (and THAT fight is the hard one), then a fuckton of demons and finally the Five and Amelyssan, you are always topped off, while in vanilla at the last leg of the fight I had to spam Wish to restore my spell slots. And I don't think the Five (Four, because Balthazar was on my side) were that difficult, mostly because they lack their gimmicks AND ABAZIGAL DOEAN'T TURN INTO A FUCKING DRAGON THIS TIME AROUND.
>revamped Ascension >play evil character and do the right talking >Irenicus and Bodhi prefer the cut of your jib and join you to fight Amelyssan instead
Come to think of it, I've never had Anomen and Jan in my party. And I only had Edwin once. Only recently I've done a playthrough with Nalia and Mazzy as my primary party members.
Holy shit, I've been playing this series since 2001 and there are still so many things I haven't done. Complacency will do that for ya.
He's voiced by Pinky and I can't unhear this shit.
For all the other slowpokes like me:
Haer'dalis is Raziel.
Gorion, Firkraag, Minsc and half of the ToB NPCs are voiced by Darkwing Duck.
Nalia and Viconia are voiced by the same actress.
So is Jaheira, Anelyssan and Faldorn.
>Gorion, Firkraag, Minsc and half of the ToB NPCs are voiced by Darkwing Duck.
Winnie the Pooh and Tigger as well.
Jim Cummings is a legend though, so you can't even tell. That's how you can tell a voice actor is good.
...there is a reason why one of Firkraag's idle lines is "oh, bother".
And I will always be salty that Larian has recast Minsc with Matt Mercer instead of Jim Cummings. I really like Matt Mercer and have nothing against the guy, but... why? It's not like Jim Cummings is unavailable, he's still in the biz, he's been doing a voice of Minsc for a Neverwinter MMO, FFS. He returned for SoD! He's doing Darkwing Duck again.

I guess stunt casting is the answer. We can hire a professional voice actor... or we can cast some big name star that will half-ass their line reads, but gives us notoriety.
I'm the finger down your spine when all the lights are out. I'm the name on all the men's room walls. When I pout, the whole world tries to make me smile. And everyone always wants to know, who... is... that girl?
>I... I do not remember your love, Ellesime. I have tried to. I have tried to recreate it, to spark it anew in my memory. But it is gone... a hollow, dead thing. For years, I clung to the memory of it. Then the memory of the memory. And then nothing. The Seldarine took that from me, too. I look upon you and I feel nothing. I remember nothing but you turning your back on me, along with all the others. Once my thirst for power was everything. And now I hunger only for revenge. And... I... Will... HAVE IT!!
Is it normal for Liches that summon Demons/Pit fiends to have those same Demons attack them? Happened twice in watcher's keep and in the secret lich cave in the tavern.
Yes, demons will attack everything on sight no matter who summons them, unless its protected by Evil. That's why the lich in the Graveyard District is programmed to cast Protection against Evil on himself. I guess the Liches in WK aren't...
Also, that's a very funny way of cheesing the Gate spell. Your opponent casts Protection against Evil on themselves, you do the same... and the summoned demon will just bumble about for a while until finally fucking off out of sheer boredom, because he can't target either of you.
>finish the saga >sad every time >more sad this time since I romanced Jaheira and it said we stayed together but BG3 ruined it
Now I know how Khalid feels
Ha! This time around I broke space-time continuum by romancing Nalia, so BG3 might as well be non-canon.
Also, yeah, ending the saga always bums me out because what the fuck am I supposed to be doing now? I guess it's the matter of pacing, where even though the series is 100+ hours long, you still don't feel burned out. Unlike in D:OS 1/2 or Kingmaker where I just wanted those games to finish already, because they are outstaying their welcome.
I assume I will replay BG series on my vacation leave again, because why not?
Even if you stay together, it says that you spend months apart at times.
Surely BG3 would just occur in these gaps?
Or after CHARNAME is canonically dead, I guess.
I know absolutely nothing about BG3. I'm just stating common sense.

You guys just spread these headcanons around as if they were established facts, when they aren't. We don't know if Jaheira has had a kid or with whom, iirc the daughter was datamine to be someone else but even that could be subject to change. All we know is that she's getting old even by half-elf standards and still doing her Harper thing.
It's one if those "we want to make a sequel to an established IP that ended 20 years ago, because easy money, while we also want it to take place in our retconned current timeline so we have the product synergy with 5e AND we want it be a sequel to a flagship 5e adventure module, let's hire people who can't write stories for shit to make sense out of it. Oh, they want to do something about mind flayers. Sure."
He was supposed to be a full companion, but then someone pointed out the obvious, meaning "what's the point of a new companion, when you are probably near endgame anyway?".
This seems like something that should've happened 20 years ago, where you rip a page out of a magazine and mail it in for the "Sass my Ass" sweepstakes.
I was always convinced that Twisted Rune is something that Bioware made up so that we can have a bonus boss fight lategame, but no, those fuckers have been an established FR organization since forever.
Mindbreak is a strange verb to use here, it's more mind healing really. But yes, you can make her switch to Neutral by the end of ToB. That's why it's the only real option for LG/NG/CG. One must assume Aerie and Jaheira would be doing just fine even if you didn't stick in your cock in them. It takes a champion of righteousness (me) to save Viconia.
>is pure sexo >top tier banter with not only you but also your companions >you can actually fix her >almost cried at her shitty 2 paragraph ending
I kneel
Yes, why would one want a powerful and sexy cleric at their side when they can instead get an old self-righteous fart whose marriage is crumbling... a complete mystery.
>was going to get a picture of the wild hair mage for a bait post >forgot her name and typed "baldur's gate nessa" into image search >got Dreppin's cow instead
This is much better frankly.
Why does art like this give her pink hair? She has white hair, the lighting in her portrait is just pinkish. Her alternate portrait makes it clear it's white.
BG1 NPCs tend to just be standing there, it's not common for them even to come up to you to introduce, let alone having a cutscene. I know they wanted to introduce them stronger because they're new and have to stand out to old players, but having a whole cutscene screaming "put them in your party now!" is very intrusive.
Alora walks up to you as well I think. But that's all.
Yeah, but that's just walking up to you. EE companions force you into entire cutscenes and in Neera's case a deceptively difficult combat scenario. And the game doesn't even have a decency to ask you if you have the strength for it.
You know, one thing I really miss from the EE releases are those cute loading screens, especially the BG2 ones. Like, sure they would be completely superfluous now, but they were still cute.
There aren't any, that's the thing. The loading screens were removed entirely, because there is no point to them. Even in 2000's the loading times were really fast, unless you had some total potato from 1993, nowadays, even your smartphone mogs a computer from 2000's several times over.
finally
YOUR TAINT SHALL BE CLEANSED
Korgan/Viconia/Edwin and I guess Imoen because the the plot is even sillier if you just leaver her in spellhold. Never need anybody else.
I usually roll with the most goody-two-shoes party I can find and it works really well. The game REALLY wants you to play as a good guy.
its because of some dumb irl rule wizards or something had had where evil isn't allowed to be rewarded that much, it got better in the second game
Why the FUCK isn’t BG3 using this font?
Because the font needs to be "readable" nowadays. That's why the entire interface looks like something out of an Ipod.
Is there a reason why I shouldn't pick a Conjurer everytime I roll a wizard?
Is there any wizard school that's better?
Wild mage, if can deal with the liabilities that come with it in BG 1.
I prefer Sorc as a main spellchucker, or gnome illusionist/fighter. Just take Eddie if you want to have caster with ridiculous amount of spells.
berserker/mage school is best
Necromancer is nice for nuking, Wild Mage is good as well
I don't think I can trade shit like Simulacrum for a slightly stronger Finger of Death that still barely ever works.
default wizard
Sorcerer because you already know what spells you want anyway.
HEH! Time for a bit of the rough 'n tumble!
what do I do if I say and look like this?
>Ha ha! I'll lead 'em well!
You save western civilization?
>lawful good human male fighter specialising in longsword and shield with this pic
yep it's gaming time
Speaking of swords, I'm doing a playthrough right now where I don't have any 1H sword users. Feels weird to have stuff like Varscona go to waste.
What party are you rolling anyway?
I assume Khalid and Jaheira are off the hook?
Inquisitor protagonist, custom cleric/mage, custom archer, Imoen, Viconia and Edwin.
AI generated lookin' ass
You're an idiot
Leave us alone, would ya? Nothin' for you here.
Heh, you tell 'em Marl!
Are you talkin' to me? ARE YOU TALKIN' TO ME???
Why do I live in such a pissant town?
Don't touch me. I'm super important.
>Lay a finger on what I protect, and forevermore you will answer Nature's Call...WITH A HOOK!
BG1 Minsc was so much better than he was in 2.
While that might be true he still sucked
I assume the only reason he was a ranger in BG1 was because originally there was no kit for a berserker?
I think in the original bg I kits weren't designed yet for fighter, paladin, druid, etc.
Should have just made him a fighter with charm animals instead but I think they wanted 1 more ranger since there's already 4 fighters
Tuigan Shortbow or Darkfire Shortbow? I already have Gesen on Imoen this is for Nalia
Darkfire, hands down. It can be ugraded to +5. Isn't Tuigan only +1?
Yeah I guess my thinking was it gets 3 attacks a round but none of the arrows are great
Sure, but because it's only a +1, chances are it won't do you much, because you'll rarely hit anything anyway, especially in ToB.
Tansheron's Bow +3, can generate it's own ammunition so you can stack ammunition into it for more damage. Plus it's an early weapon you can hit most enemies barring demi liches and you don't get +3 arrows until ToB
I'm up to draconis and never got that one
Tansheron? It's sellable in Tradesmeet.
Or you can kill Cattie-Brie for it, either one.
Can't get it if you're in ToB and forgot to get it.
Draconis is in ToB
Yeah, shame there's not more ranged weapons that generates it's own ammunition besides those two and firetooth. Then I'd pick Tuigan just because I like giving darkfire to fighters who can use it to cause improved haste on themselves midfight. Plus the bowstring of gond is used for upgrading firetooth too so I use it there instead of darkfire.
I have firetooth on Keldorn but he is more useful with upgraded Carosmyr (core rules no SCS)
Are there actually any fighters that benefit from longbows? Valygar, I guess?
It's not like BG2 has an equivalent of Kivan.
Keldorn might want to since with AoF he's not as tanky, same as Mazzy, but there's no longbow that generates it's own ammo and the best damage you can get is stacking ammo into a weapon that already generates it's own because the damage adds together.
post kino icewind dale portraits
>Yes I do enjoy Icewind Dale, how could you tell?
That's my favourite one
This guy with the "RAAAAHH" voice, always a must have.
>literally just an actual character from dragonlance
A silent blade cuts best.
is it me or is the pathing actually worse in EE
It actually is? At least IIRC, vanilla BG games didn't have the bug where the party members warp into each other.
>Characters regularly getting stuck on geography while you're taking a long route to leave a dungeon
>Go fight one enemy that casts fear and suddenly the AI is capable of threading the needle and pixel-perfectly leaving into the one corridor still filled with enemies.
>vanilla BG games didn't have the bug where the party members warp into each other.
this is what gives me the shits, and the MP not working
plus all my buffs are fucking expiring while they are all stuck on each other because I want to leave an area
I think there's a mod which fixes it (yes beamdog sucks dick)
Awaaay with you, beggar!
Is anyone willing to hear my plea? Anyone...? You all know me—I've helped some of you...! Is this the thanks I get...? I've helped lots of your *kind*!
My kind?
You know... lowborn. Underprivileged. Illiterate. Your kind...
>You know...Amnian?
What was it Kenny said here? Urban? Amusingly awkward exchange.
Yeah. I am too incompetent/lazy to render it with Nalia and default male adventurer #1.
>default male adventurer #1.
aka chad
I always used uh the vaguely irish sterotype looking guy for males.
Its spoilered because you fucking know which one I mean.
This is Edwins portrait if you've chosen his default pic for your own.
This is not inclining me towards helping you, lady.
Nalia has definitely used the hard r.
>expects reward or repayment from charity
That's not really charity then is it? That's a business exchange. Apparently with undisclosed terms.
Solid 5/10.
Keep in mind that in Greenwood's oldie FR books, meeting a fucking dwarf in a human in was a minor "holy shit" moment.
Case in point: Spellfire.
>a bleeding heart noble
>a Red Wizard
>a crazy dwarf
>a junior paladin
>a duergar
>a fucking red dragon
>married couple stabbing each other
>some fucker randomly selling items worth a fortune
>if you are lucky, you can see a womanlet vs an ogre fight
>oh, and there is a establishment takeover every few weeks
Copper Coronet is a fun place, definately.
Nalia has only 9 WIS, please be patient.
Ah yes, the Fight Man's Burden. Still, better than what Druids get.
Her citadel sotryline was the most unfinished garbage ever, all them were.
Well, she did get cucked out of a romance in favour of Aerie, hence the unfinished content. And it's all Imoen's fault.
Theeeeeese walls contain the wooorld's knowledge!
Sleep lightly, taskmaster.
AHHH SERRRVE THA FLAMIN' FIIIST
Guys I do my another BG run and want to choose a other romance this time. All my life i fucked Aerie but now I will steals Khalids wife. Is it worth it?
You fucked Aerie, literally anything else is worth it.
Enjoy Jaheria just fucking disappearing to """"find herself/get her elfbox morally pounded by Elminister"""" multiple times
yeah
Awesome. This time I will get the milf. I already cucked Khalid right now. Gave him the gender belt.
>So I can't fuck her desperate hole?
You get to fuck her eventually
>wanting them to ruin the old companions
>wanting them to ruin the old companions
Minsc and Jaheira are already in and the latter remarried lmao
Yeah... that's just not canon. Not a canon I'm accepting at least. That's just another druid with the same name. I mean a lot can happen in 100-something years. Jaheira is not that unique of a name. Not the same person. Nope.
>I mean a lot can happen in 100-something years
yeah, like Jaheira getting railed by a bara druid that didn't even exist in BG2 and putting out a kid for him which she wouldn't do with you or Khalid
We don't have that confirmed for sure, as far as I know. Regardless I doubt this was supposed to be a thinly hidden BG3-is-going-to-suck thread so I'll leave it at that.
I know and they cucked everyone who romanced Jaheira
Minsc and Jaheira have both been confirmed
You only fuck at the veeeery end of her romance arc. There is a chance, you won't ever get that far because by then you'll probably finish SoA twice over.
God knows I never did.
I always liked this NWN1 portrait.
For your Lawful Evil Fighter right?
STOP TOUCHING ME!
>get Coran
>give him boots of the cheetah
>win the game
bows are so fucking retarded it's unreal
Why was I always convinced that Coran is a half-elf? It's only recently that I realized he's an elf.
It's his attitude, elfs are normally shown as pure and civilized but Coran is a drunk and fucks anything with a skirt.
His portrait is not very elf like either
>cuckposting
>Fasst misch nischt an iiiiisch kööönnte mir ja was einfaaahngen.
I love the german version
Guys, BG3 is going to suck, isn't it?
It's going to be a buggy, rushed mess where all the companions are cartoonishly evil or cartoonishly good, right?
Worst of all... Imoen won't be there...
it'll be 10x better mechanically than the original games, and 10x worse in writing, which is saying a lot since the writing in the first two games isn't good, jus verbose.
just gotta pretend it's icewind dale 3 or something
>it'll be 10x better mechanically than the original games
DOS1 and 2 were horrible.
they were okay, they just focused way too much on environmental effects, which doesn't seem to be the case in BG3 at least
also, bg 1 and 2 were also complete shit mechanically, don't act like 99% of the game wasn't just watching your party autoattack.
>also, bg 1 and 2 were also complete shit mechanically, don't act like 99% of the game wasn't just watching your party autoattack.
But this was the comfy part. Just autoattack and doing skills and spells on harder enemies/bosses.
This is what made old RPGs comfy.
i dunno anon, I played old rpgs to you know, roleplay, which is why icewind dale sucked
>I want to think and strategize
You wouldn't say this and then say Div:OS is better than BG1 and 2 especially when that 1 spell mod exist.
>I played old rpgs to you know, roleplay, which is why icewind dale sucked
you aren't meant to be playing RPGs if you can't imagine what's going on in them
It's the writing I'm most horrified about.
I mean, change the UI color and names and this exchange
could be from a certain other game.
>could be from a certain other game
I'm actually blanking on what you might mean.
I'll be your female wizard today
Hey there, hi there!
Hop skip to it!
With a smile!
C'mon, people, now, smile on your brother! Everybody get together; try to love one another right now!
😀
I am still salty that NPCProject doesn't have a romance with Alora or Skie.
I get Branwen, but who the fuck wants to romance Dynaheir or Shar-Teel?
Why in the actual fuck did Beamdog make him Lawful GOOD instead of Lawful Neutral as he was originally? Also, why were all the ToB portraits (barring sarevok) super low res?
He's pretty good
beamie knows best, chud!
His monks and mercenaries were running around killing people
>His monks and mercenaries were running around killing people
They deserved it.
they probably did, but bioware didn't bother putting them in the game files since they aren't used in the vanilla BG engine
>Wouldn't the artist have drawn a proper res image?
Granted, it's been 20 years. The chances of him still having them somewhere for the hell of it are rather small.
>running around killing people
its their own fault for being trannies
The original is
, I'm fairly sure by Jason Manley who did a lot of promotional and game art for BG2 and Icewind Dale 1.
The "remastered" is what you posted.
why, beamie, WHY?
Because blood, that's why.
Also, that's also the reason why all BG1 cutscenes were removed and replaced with those Powerpoint presentations. The intro to BG1 is waaaaay too brutal for current sentiments (think abiut it fir a minute), so they had to redo it. And just to be consistent...
They had to redo it because it's 1998 CG and the original files are long gone so you can't remaster them. And they're not going to do a Blizzard Diablo 2 remaster where they recreate the cinematics, you're getting the old digital paintings with some zooming in and out bullshit.
Buy then they left the BG2 cutscenes as-is.
Well I don't know then.
Which is just funny because even in the newer rendering for that book of D&D bad guys, the artist seems to have identified the bloody hands as a signature part of the design to recreate. Even if they also botched it by giving both of them human ears instead of elven (Irenicus's costume in the game implies to me he mutilated or even cut off his own).
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the nu-lore implying that Irenicus used cloning to transfer his conciousness to a new, human body... for reasons?
Like, 5e lore is idiotic and I can see that happening.
that book isn't canon
I guess when lady E elfcucked him she also de-elfed his ears
What kind of elves are the Suldanessalar elves anyway? Moon elves, sun elves, wood elves? They worship Rillifane and have fixation on giant trees like wood elves, have moonswords and advanced magic like moon elves and behave like sun elves. In the original art Ellesime even looks like a sun elf.
good question lol
it's also funny how elves are short as fuck in BG(2) when in FR they're meant to be the same height as humans
There is entire saga worth telling about elven height and the confusion about it coming from TSR/WotC. It actually varies from edition to edition and there is a slight bleed-in from Greyhawk as well.
The only constant thing is that the drow are universally smol.
>normal pinkish healthy skin
wtf?
Just like a real vampire
>big lips, large nose, wider face
mmmh suHispanicious
Ok I get the blood, but why did they make her so much uglier? From dialogue I surmised she was meant to be attractive looking, albeit in a scary "rip your spine out after fucking" way.
Because artists at Beamdog are not Jason Manley
They made her a moron? Beamdog really are talentless.
If you wish to see the absolute hackjob Beamdog did on "remastering" that artwork. Notice the hands are just a smear now and have no blood on them anymore, or that the face doesn't seem to fit the skull anymore, even with stylization.
A cracking good job on that, Beamdog. Truly holding to the standard we've come to expect from you.
Maybe they were trying to imitate the hands of the in-game character sprites.
they don't have anyone who can draw fingers?
They REALLY went through some serious hoops just to remove the blood from a portait that most people are not going to see anyway, didn't they?
>couldn't even be bothered giving her vampire teeth
Holy fuck that's lazy
>Top face: Creepy, feral and dangerous looking, but fey and elegant in a faded way that you can tell she was once an elf
>Bottom face: Uh....Orc or something?
Yeah, I figured as much. It would be too good if corporate worms let artists do their thing like the fans want, but nope.
Actually quite a few I think? Underrail, Atom, Solasta, Age of Decadence?
I just use the portrait packs.
I thought they didn't have the rights to the bg1 cutscenes or something
HELM SEES ALL
KNOW THAT AND BE JUDGED
...I love that line for some reason
I think of it any time I see the word helm.
>bait you with a cute mind controlled retard
>can't save her or become her new master
>stuck with ugly moron vampire lesbian who cats like her credit card was declined
>only romance mod that exists turns her into an annoying tumblr user and puts a lot of focus on her romancing other companions
Dorn's introduction in BG1 was really out of place. It's an interactive cutscene LARPing as a fight in a game where that never happens.
You can also just not talk to him in the Friendly Arm Inn, you'll never have to deal with him again.
>the game DOES NOT give you a choice as to what to do with Haxxat is damning.
You mean the fake or real one? Cause for the latter you can straight up kill her the first time you meet.
You can? I remember her laughing off my threats and then weaseling into the party anyway. Maybe some patches changes that.
Might have been changed in a version before I bought the game, but when I played it I could kill her with the sequence of events that went something like
>"meet me in the next chamber"
>"Where is dragomir's cloak?"
>"It's charname's cloak now!"
>"give it to me"
>"no"
>fight, Hexxat dies
First time I found her I remember killing her in the first dialogue, though the quest never finished.
HAVE I TOLD YOU ABOUT SELUNE TODAY MY BROTHER MY FRIEND
>Rasaad's ending is him getting beat up by monks
Should have been a another paladin imo, though I got a soft spot for cavaliers
HEY DO YOU HAVE TIME TO TALK ABOUT *ME* AND *MY* WILD MAGIC PROBLEMS?
BY THE WAY I SLEPT WITH SOMEONE ELSE JUST IN CASE YOU ACTUALLY LIKED ME, AND YOU BETTER NOT SAY ANYTHING BAD OR I'LL LEAVE YOU PERMANENTLY AS WELL
The entire romance with Neera is such a half-ass. She's not even that much into romancing you, so in the end you just simp for her for no reason.
Classic Paul Dano
>Does he know?
>Those who know
>Those who Daknow
>without ascension
>piss easy
>with ascension
>almost impossible
I actually find it slightly easier with Ascension. Because I don't think that the pools were restoring you in the original game? So despite fighting Irenicus+Bodhi+cray cray Imoen (and THAT fight is the hard one), then a fuckton of demons and finally the Five and Amelyssan, you are always topped off, while in vanilla at the last leg of the fight I had to spam Wish to restore my spell slots. And I don't think the Five (Four, because Balthazar was on my side) were that difficult, mostly because they lack their gimmicks AND ABAZIGAL DOEAN'T TURN INTO A FUCKING DRAGON THIS TIME AROUND.
>revamped Ascension
>play evil character and do the right talking
>Irenicus and Bodhi prefer the cut of your jib and join you to fight Amelyssan instead
Does Irenicus also join? I thought is only Bodhi that changes sides?
>with SCS
>spam breach/dispel on every single encounter
It's piss easy
>I am not Amylessan, I am...Melissan.
Good thing I've never heard of an Amylessan before this game or she'd be in trouble.
You mean Smelly Melly.
I was actually pretty sad with how hard I pushed Irenicus' shit in. Just dropped meteors on his head and he died.
Anomen is pure kino
You just want to ride that Critical Role wave, don't you, Swen, you memeing chucklefuck?
>You just want to ride that Critical Role wave, don't you, Swen, you memeing chucklefuck?
Basically this, minsc is absolute fucking normie tier even for people who haven't played baldurs gate. What better way to market the game than heckin epic minsc voiced by matt mercer.
>You just want to ride that Critical Role wave,
"Should we cast a seasonal professional vocieactor or the lastest fad in the TTrpg community?"
To be fair Matt Mercer is a legitimately good voice actor
To be fair, Matt Mercer is also a profilic voice actor with 15 years of experience, so I don't have a problem with the casting, I just don't see a point, unless Swen just wants to meme a bit.
Because of course he does.
>a seasonal professional vocieactor
Mercer is that though, that's the whole appeal of Critical Role, they are already actors. But yes, Cummings should have been cast again.
I didn't know that because I have no interest in DivOS3 but that really says a lot about the game in general doesn't it. "We love this thing so much we want to bring it back but only on the absolute most surface level to trick people".
Honestly, I can bet that Matt Mercer cares more about Baldur's Gate series than Larian does. He also was raised on those games.
>And I will always be salty that Larian has recast Minsc with Matt Mercer instead of Jim Cummings.
all my interest in BG3 = evaporated
Weird I always thought Jennifer Hale was Amelyssan but I was wrong
Mazzy is Commander Shepard
>prolific voice actors are prolific
There are tons of them in BG/BG2.
It's natural to have voice actors doing multiple roles in vydiagames.
>Cartoon voice actors for games
Why did this stop being common?
It did?
Well, outside of cartoon games. Jeff Bennett is only recently credited in... Kingdom Hearts and Lego Star Wars?
I guess stunt casting is the answer. We can hire a professional voice actor... or we can cast some big name star that will half-ass their line reads, but gives us notoriety.
I'm the finger down your spine when all the lights are out. I'm the name on all the men's room walls. When I pout, the whole world tries to make me smile. And everyone always wants to know, who... is... that girl?
Grey DeLisle, aka Viconia/Nalia
Jan is hilarious. Use him.
And... I... Will... HAVE IT!!
...so what's the deal with Centeol and Irenicus?
Is it normal for Liches that summon Demons/Pit fiends to have those same Demons attack them? Happened twice in watcher's keep and in the secret lich cave in the tavern.
Most anticlimactic fights I have ever faced
Yes, demons will attack everything on sight no matter who summons them, unless its protected by Evil. That's why the lich in the Graveyard District is programmed to cast Protection against Evil on himself. I guess the Liches in WK aren't...
Also, that's a very funny way of cheesing the Gate spell. Your opponent casts Protection against Evil on themselves, you do the same... and the summoned demon will just bumble about for a while until finally fucking off out of sheer boredom, because he can't target either of you.
CLASSIC
Why is everyone sucking up Drizzt, his stats are fucking terrible for a melee character.
>Why is everyone sucking up Drizzt
You're the first one to mention him. Feeling ok?
What are his stats anyway?
He's build like DEX warrior but is using STR weapons, also low con.
Aren't all melee weapons STR weapons in AD&D?
Exactly.
>finish the saga
>sad every time
>more sad this time since I romanced Jaheira and it said we stayed together but BG3 ruined it
Now I know how Khalid feels
Well I have a big backlog and lots of reading to do, but what I really want is to start BG1 again
Yeah, me too. That WotR has been ij my backlog forever, but I still would rather play IE games instead.
pfft who cares about bg3 nigggaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Even if you stay together, it says that you spend months apart at times.
Surely BG3 would just occur in these gaps?
Or after CHARNAME is canonically dead, I guess.
I know absolutely nothing about BG3. I'm just stating common sense.
in 3 Jaheira is with some elf dude, and the epilogue states while you are apart you are still together
well then yeah, wtf.
I mean canonically charname (abdel) is dead so of course she'd have moved on if Khalid is anything to go by
He was still alive when she popped out the new guy's kid
fuck
You guys just spread these headcanons around as if they were established facts, when they aren't. We don't know if Jaheira has had a kid or with whom, iirc the daughter was datamine to be someone else but even that could be subject to change. All we know is that she's getting old even by half-elf standards and still doing her Harper thing.
BG3 happens 150 years after ToB. Yeah.
Sure."
>choosing Jaheira over Viconia
you deserve it
least mine isn't dead lol
I've romanced everyone but Anomen and the EE chuds
Heya.
expected him, was not disappointed
>puts genderswap girdle on edwin in BG1
Does he know?
Get me out of this hell hooole...
I wish Solaufein was a companion. Another cut character that went nowhere.
he seemed to have lots of content to me
He was supposed to be a full companion, but then someone pointed out the obvious, meaning "what's the point of a new companion, when you are probably near endgame anyway?".
Pretty sure that's one of the more popular mods.
Looks like Paul Dano
>only 360 entrants
did you enter anons
soul
I wanted to, but I am so buttfuckingly ugly, I can only cosplay as a troll and trolls are not playable.
This seems like something that should've happened 20 years ago, where you rip a page out of a magazine and mail it in for the "Sass my Ass" sweepstakes.
I was always convinced that Twisted Rune is something that Bioware made up so that we can have a bonus boss fight lategame, but no, those fuckers have been an established FR organization since forever.
oooo matron!
Viccy is the best romance option by far, it's not even close
Best option was to solo the game away from all those skanks
It's the only real option if you're playing a LG Paladin type of hero, the contrast just works so well.
I forget, is there a way to mindbreak her into changing alignment?
yeah you can make her true neutral, I did it with a CG Ranger but you have to go through a lot of bullshit in her romance
It takes a champion of righteousness (me) to save Viconia.
>is pure sexo
>top tier banter with not only you but also your companions
>you can actually fix her
>almost cried at her shitty 2 paragraph ending
I kneel
>can't take Keldorn with her
she's worthless
Yes, why would one want a powerful and sexy cleric at their side when they can instead get an old self-righteous fart whose marriage is crumbling... a complete mystery.
loyal paladin with dispel magic so strong it works on irenicus and tob bosses as opposed to being ruled by your dick and a manipulative drow
viconia actively tries to push you away, she's the opposite of manipulative
>don't worry Viconia you can let your guard down I won't let Lolth's followers track you down and kill you haha
The good news is minsc was always a cringe useless character so I don’t think I’ll be bringing him in bg3 either despite his EPIC INTRO!!!
the way they describe minsc makes him seem as legendary as charname or something so I was intrigued then that fucking retard popped out
Minsc, in BG1 and BG2, is cool. Anything else is gay and also if you play Larian's abomination you are gay.
>ah yes gorion's ward
>the legendary hero that used web and fireball and cloudkill and silence 15' radius
Shar worshippers get the rope
All I wanted in my life was an Eilistraeean waifu.
If this shit continues, I will be forced to mod her in myself.
Eli-who? Drow are just elves that forgot how to be gender-fluid per WotC.
Jeremy, stop shitposting on Ganker and check with your sensitivity consultant how offensive your current twitter post is.
Didn't you have one in NWN?
>tfw no phaere gf
>t. Solaufein
>you get one shot with a drow priestess
>you cum too quickly
>she castrates you and sends you to the fighting pits
it will all be worth it for that one nut
>filename
I know
Nalia should have been Skie
I just bought Baldur's Gate 3, what am i in for Gankerros?
A blatant reskin of D:OS 2.
a 10/10 masterpiece
finished my father karras run today
Who did you romance? Asking for a friend.
Jaheira. Only because I haven't for a while and wanted to see what it was like.
>Let's see what yer guts be lookin' like
What did he mean by this?
Ahhhh, now there was a combo, with a side order of ice.
>was going to get a picture of the wild hair mage for a bait post
>forgot her name and typed "baldur's gate nessa" into image search
>got Dreppin's cow instead
This is much better frankly.
Hey, Nessa>Neera.
Would make a better party member.
Why does art like this give her pink hair? She has white hair, the lighting in her portrait is just pinkish. Her alternate portrait makes it clear it's white.
Apparently, her hair should be pink, it's even stated in-game. Her alternate portrait is just a discommunication between the writers and the artist.
I hope she drowns in those bubbles
You want to bet Larian/WotC will declare Neera as the "canon" love interest for CHARNAME?
She's already canon in the general lore.
>You want to bet Larian/WotC will declare Neera as the "canon" love interest for CHARNAME?
oh jesus fuck no, honestly I assumed aerie if anyone
I doubt she will have any mention whatsoever.
I'll do it for you
BG1 NPCs tend to just be standing there, it's not common for them even to come up to you to introduce, let alone having a cutscene. I know they wanted to introduce them stronger because they're new and have to stand out to old players, but having a whole cutscene screaming "put them in your party now!" is very intrusive.
The only one (in BG1 at least) that forces the coverstion with you is Viconia. Granted it does have sense for her to do so.
Imoen as well. Shar-Teel maybe?
Yeah, but that's just walking up to you. EE companions force you into entire cutscenes and in Neera's case a deceptively difficult combat scenario. And the game doesn't even have a decency to ask you if you have the strength for it.
Alora walks up to you as well I think. But that's all.
AND YOUR MEANINGLESS EXISTENCE WITH IT
Delina>Neera.
I would've been more lenient towards BG3 if Delina was a romanceable party member.

You must gather your party before venturing forth.
Przed wyruszeniem w drogę należy zebrać drużynę as they say in civilized countries.
You have been waylaid by enemies and must defend yourself.
You know, one thing I really miss from the EE releases are those cute loading screens, especially the BG2 ones. Like, sure they would be completely superfluous now, but they were still cute.
Surely there is a mod, I don't even remember what the ee loading screens are
There aren't any, that's the thing. The loading screens were removed entirely, because there is no point to them. Even in 2000's the loading times were really fast, unless you had some total potato from 1993, nowadays, even your smartphone mogs a computer from 2000's several times over.
does crpg indie games exist?
...Now I want to replay both Baldur's Gate AND Torment.
