Not that i have any favorite game, but of genres i prefer castleroids, those, that are closer to SotN rather than to touhou.
As much as i can appreciate attractiveness of a challenge, exploration is more important to me. There are other genres i like, such as CRPG, zeldoids or diabloids, but those diabloids, that also have exploration in them - Sacred would be a very good example.
It is not that i don't enjoy other genres as well, especially if visuals and music are of good design, but doing a challenge only for the sake of a challenge is only rewarding at the end, but not during the process, while mindless grinding for numbers only for other numbers to rise without anything else attached quickly becomes boring.
