70 is perfectly fine for a Gen 1 mixed attacker. Tauros has the same Special and it usually runs Blizzard anyway.

Any water type with surf can ohko rhydon
Exeggutor will absolutely survive a blizzard and will oneshot kabutops with megadrain, restoring health in the process. kabutops could outspeed it and kill it if it already has low health, but that's true of most mons with blizzard.
I like kabutops a ton because it's fricking cool, but it really isn't practical to put on an OU team even in gen 1.

For actual oldschool compgays it would've made them the easiest in the game to EV train.
Showdown allows for anything in gen 1 to have maxed EVs if I remember right, maybe there are one or two exceptions. That should only be possible with tradebacks though. In that meta, fossil mons have a lot more going for them, nobody is going to have a perfect Tauros.
Admittedly less than 1% of players knew about any of this shit, but still. Showdown lets everything in gen 1 max every stat because it's convenient, but that results in a significant boost to a lot of pokemon who wouldn't have had perfect EVs. I don't even mind perfect IVs because yeah that's pure chance and technically possible in the original, but you aren't going to get a Chansey as powerful as the ones on showdown in gen 1 unless you tradeback from gen 2.
Aerodactyl would be way better for this reason too. Makes me wonder what other shit mons would really benefit from a more accurate system.

You're misremembering. They're level 30 originally, which is at the low end of what you find in the mansion. FRLG lowered them to level 5.
