My autism is forcing me to start with I&II Chronicles because I don't want to feel like a secondary and start from VIII, but I'm getting hard filtered. Tips for getting through these pieces of shit?
My autism is forcing me to start with I&II Chronicles because I don't want to feel like a secondary and start from VIII, but I'm getting hard filtered. Tips for getting through these pieces of shit?
Shut up and pick a game to play.
You can do it, anon. I’m an autist that did the same exact thing you’re doing, you just have to grind levels like nuts to over power most enemies by the time you reach them. Also, once you learn that you have to run at enemies diagonally, you’ll start to understand the subtle nuance of the bump system and how it works so you don’t get obliterated by basic mobs as the continuously drain your health as you run into them. Once you get to Oath the games become super accessible. That said Celceta and 7 were trying my patience quite a bit
Just run into things at an angle
I don’t know where the frick I’m supposed to go.
Where are you currently? Do you talk to all NPCs?
The game doesn't have things like quest markers and whatnot, but ultimately there aren't too many places to try and go to since the game world isn't big at all. And talking to npcs should usually give you enough hints to know what to do next.
If you still get stuck,
Iirc the flowchart goes
>talk to every npc in the first town
>get the sword
>talk to the doctor before leaving (go back and talk to him if you didn't, because this triggers an event)
>go north to the next town
>talk to every npc, specially the fortuneteller and the chick wirh the harmonica
>go north again into the ghost town, talk to the old lady
>talk to the thief's leader and gain access to the first dungeon. Gain wife
>fight the first boss and clear the first dungeon
>go back to the ghost town talk to old lady and leave wife there
>go to the second town and in the outskirts find a guy lost (this doesn't happen if you didn't talk to the doctor before leaving the first town)
>Get into the mines
>find fruit
>eat fruit
>get out of the mines and talk to a tree
>get sword from tree
>grind to max level and then fight the boss in the mine
>rage at the vampire boss
>go back to the tower to finish the game
IIRC That how it went.
It's been almost 10 years and I'm going off memory.
Pick up the PC Engine version, it's kino
Grind a few levels as soon as you can, you're not supposed to feel overpowered by basic enemies
When I played 1 I found it easy enough to play. My issue was I was looking up missable achievments which lead to an autism spergout and me dropping the game after beating the bat boss because of branching dialogue.
I am over that phase now so I should just finish it now.
1 and 2 were the only good Y's games, its all down hill from there.
Is that the bumper game? it is pretty simple. The only tricky part is the final boss that needs silver armor to beat and leveling up enough . Dont just ignore all enemys. You can also play pic, if you like origin and ark of napishtim. Great game and soundtrack by the same devs. Feels like Ys.
Xanadu Next is pretty cool. I'm going to also recommend anyone reading check out Revival Xanadu too, that game is fricking awesome.
xanadu next is better than every single ys game tbh, ys is super overrated
>recommending a game where trash enemies delevel you below your equipment requirements
Hard pass
Do these in eigo?
If you like bumber combat then you may enjoy this upcoming game from a GOAT indie studio
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2393920/Angeline_Era/
needs shading or something to fix those graphics
I bought these during the sale and finished the first game in 5 hours. What part is filtering you?
Some other anon in this thread said to attack enemies diagonally, which helped with the combat. Now the main thing filtering me is figuring out where the game wants me to go. All of the early areas look like the same grassy fields and I keep going around in circles. Am I moronic?
There should be occasional signs around pointing you in the direction of towns. Then just make sure to talk with everyone since they will be the ones to tell you where to go.
Just use a guide then, stupid.
After getting your sword you go to the big town and talk to the fortune teller, then you go to the town East from the with the amnesic girl, then the destroyed town north from what I can remember. Of course there’s a bunch of smaller bullshit in between like finding the harmonica for the other blue haired girl but those are the general sequence of events
I'm at the town with the fortune teller right now, I got lost in the area right after it. I probably will end up using a guide because I remember reading some weird shit about how there's a silver sword or something that mogs the actual best weapon in the game. I will try your suggestions next time I'm playing, so thanks for these tips anons.
Only Ys 1 and 2 have the bump combat, don't they? Why would the other games not be for me if they play like traditional action RPGs?
Just as a word of warning there's a massive difficulty spike for the third boss, plus the silver sword is essential for it so be sure to get it before then.
Because I&II, Oath and Origins are regarded as the best in the series. So if you don't like these then why bother playing? And no offence, but you don't seem like the smartest anon. You can't figure out where to go in a 4 hour game, with explorable areas I can count on one hand. So with that knowledge, I know for a fact you'll be filtered not an hour into the 5th game Celceta and never beat it, and probably never touch the series again
>Because I&II are regarded as the best in the series
That’s not true at all
Depends on who you ask, I guess. But either II or I recently placed pretty highly (2nd, even?) in the anniversary poll, with VIII being in first place.
And of course Arkgays would say Felghana and Origin are the best (I agree) but most people would probably say VIII nowadays, since a lot of people seem to have started with it.
Here are the results, they counted I&II as one game:
>1st place: Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana
>2nd place: Ys I & II Chronicles
>3rd place: Ys IX: Monstrum Nox
>4th place: Ys: The Oath of Felghana
>5th place: Ys SEVEN
>6th place: Ys Origin
>7th place: Ys III: Wanderers from Ys
>8th place: Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim
>9th place: Ys V: Lost Kefin, Kingdom of Sand
>9th place: Ys: Memories of Celceta
https://noisypixel.net/ys-japanese-survey-reveals-favorite-games/?expand_article=1
>Origin that low
>Barely above Wanderers
Jesus.
Stupid Reddit normalgay ironic weeaboos love VIII because muh waiifuu and they get filtered by the challenge of the older games. I hate what this series turned into. Nta btw.
Pathetic
I'm allowed to grieve a series I once loved anon. You don't see me shitting on Fire Emblem threads do you
real fans like all the source material you cant refute this
>real fans eat shit
>being filtered by something thats not peak
you have to be low iq
>japanese poll
Nips are notorious for their insane level of nostalgia and over appraising the break out games in a series
>nostalgia oriented
>VIII and IX
ngmi
IX is memberberries for the series, so nostalgia is applicable for that game.
That’s just recency bias, moron
>Dana is the Persona 5 of the series
Yeah that fits. Frick normalgays
>3rd place: Ys IX: Monstrum Nox
Apologies are in order.
>Celceta tied with fricking Kefin
Alright I know Celceta wasn't great, but it doesn't deserve that.
I get the urge to replay V more often than I could say for Celceta. I don't hate either, but Celceta's length makes me want to go back to it less often.
A V remaked will come eventually. As for the PS2 version specifically, it's not a terribly great game but I'd love a translation patch for it.
Right now, all EOPs have is some guy's translated playthrough on YouTube.
Awful
Why is mask of sun not here? I'm playing right now and outsode of the shitty bosses the games not that bad.
Guess they only wanted the canon entries, except both Wanderers and OiF are on there.
Don't know if there were more options (e.g. MotS and Dawn) and they only presented the top ten.
Both Mask of the Sun and Dawn of Ys were not made by Falcom. So that's probably why.
That makes sense. I guess they don't even have to acknowledge their existence anymore with Celceta being a thing (though they previously did recognize MotS as canon. It was on thei "Complete Works" collection instead of Dawn, anyway).
>oath
>best
lmao no. im so sick of you oath babies
I like them all equally. Not an Oath baby. But do tell what's your favourite anon
Ark. It might not be as refined as the sequels, but it has the best setting and characters as far as im concerned
>Because I&II, Oath and Origins are regarded as the best in the series
aaaaaahahahahahahagabhhhahs
>Am I moronic?
No, Ys 1 and 2 are games from an era that pads play time by being pretty cryptic about what you need to do next and just wants you to talk to people and explore until you stumble onto what to do next. People trying to make you feel bad for getting lost are moronic. Ys 2 is going to be more annoying since the Solomon Shrine is gigantic and every area looks the same.
nooo I have to talk to people and can't just speedrun it like my favorite streamerinos! this is padding!
From the harbor just walk north until you see castle walls. You can enter it from the northern side.
The games are good. If you don't like Ys 1&2 or Oath then just drop the series. It's not for you
i started playing long series from the last one first down to originals and i think its a way better system than starting from first game, its like rediscovering the path to the roots and you can appreciate the older titles better after getting through modern slop
meanwhile your experience gets easily broken by going from older > newer titles because you see the drop in quality of writing and gameplay, the only thing still keeping you going is the sunk cost of finishing the series
starting with 1 and 2 is the best. Bump combat is for chads
They're surprisingly good once you get used to the bump system. You can start at the newest games though, that's exactly what I did and i've played the whole series.
Literally just get good at running at things at an angle and enjoy the kino OST.
Does Ys have any wifeable characters, a la Trails? Asking for a friend.
Every ys game has wifeable girls
Too bad for Toal and Adol that they both wind up as eternal statues.
Toal saw them turn into statues, yet Adol got to interact with them 700 years later.
Though I don't like cheap cop-outs, there is hope I'd say.
Well Toal definitely didn't live to see Reah again, I'd be amazed if Adol gets survives long enough to see Feena again, but then if Falcom are so determined that she's his one and only maybe they'll contrive some reason for it.
You'll break your dick, anon.
>implying that'll stop me
1 and 2 are a lot of fun.
you need to practice with the bumper car combat, though.
The games are like most japan mega series - they aren't that much related. You can start from whenever you want. I don't suggest starting with VIII since its the longest while any of the others are short and better paced.
I’ve literally only played and beat (multiple times) I. That soundtrack is kino.
Is there a reason you haven't at least tried II? Or even Dawn?
Honestly no good reason. A while ago my friend gave me a Korean copy of I and II to play in high school. The first game worked just fine and I fell in love with it. But the save system in II never worked so I just gave up on it.
Reading this thread makes me finally want to give the second game and whole series an honest shake though.
>Tips for getting through these pieces of shit?
Ys started with the Naphistism engine games.
Ah yes Oath in Felghana, the series that revolves around dogi, a character first introduced in ys 1 is where the series began, and not the first game in the series.
I started with origins, then felgana, Dana and now Celceta. Basically I just went with the ones that called to me at the moment, anon.
At first I was worried that playing Dana would make me lose interest in the rest but surprisingly, even though Dana is a more polished entry, the blocking in Celceta makes me prefer its combat so far.
People give Celceta a lot of shit but honestly the fixed camera perspective is one of the things that made the 6 engine games work so well. A lot of the free camera/lock-on bosses in Dana just aren't as effective, imo.
I mean I and II are on Steam and cost basically nothing so I'd suggest trying it.
Thanks anon! Will do just that.
Yeah I agree with the camera, I wish more games used that even if just on some sections. For some reason it makes me appreciate locations more.
>My autism is forcing me to start with I&II Chronicles
So starting with the first book in a series is autistic? Or the first film in a trilogy?
> because I don't want to feel like a secondary and start from VIII
why would you want to start from viii
>but I'm getting hard filtered.
then use gamefaqs for what you're having problems with
>Tips for getting through these pieces of shit?
why are they pieces of shit? because Vagullion killed you a few times? git gud homosexual a baby can beat these games
>Tips for getting through these pieces of shit?
Run diagonally, abuse the hitboxes
>oathgays shit up another thread
Fantastic
But for you OP, just play them. Ys 1 is like 2 hours long, Ys 2 is 4 hours, only 1 is hard since you can't grind. In 2 and all other games difficulty can be grinded away, outside of bossrushes of course. And if you are getting lost, well, can't really help you there, games are fairly linear.
After 1 and 2 you have multiple ways to go. Did you enjoy bumper cars? Play Dawn of Ys. Are you a moron who plays everything in release order? The shitshow that is original 3, two versions of 4 and 5 await you. Are you a sane person? Go for Napishtim and go with release order from there.
How is Naptishim compared to Felgana and Origins?
good
Gotta try it out then, thanks broskies
Test run for the engine. Horribly unbalanced with bad level scaling and mediocre bosses. Has cool exploration and unique soundtrack compared to everything in the series. Don't get filtered by dash jumping and remember to rotate saves so you won't get stuck on a boat with no way to level up.
Less polished, but enjoyable. Can seem grindy at times because you need to reach certain level thresholds for bosses. Much more noticeable than in Felghana and Origin.
A bit more open than both.
Weird but good after a fashion. Doesn't have the magic charging that OiF and Origin had and as a result isn't as enjoyable in my opinion but it still has stuff going for it.
It’s good, just not as great as the other two. Good enough to replay all three back to back as a trilogy though
Hello nerds, this is your daily reminder that the best YS game also has the best YS girl.
pic related
Isn’t she essentially some kind of midget lizard freakazoid?
Shiet anon, saying that only make her hotter ffs
Apparently the part about the eternians having evolved from the saurians was all a lie to manipulate the masses.
She's cute. I like Yunica best.
>pic related
But you posted a blank image?
Dana a cutie, but Laxia is best girl.
If you don't start by playing their original releases on the NEC PC-8801, you are already a secondary.
To be fair if he did that he'd at least be spared the bullshit that is Chronicles' bat boss.
Does the PC88 version even have an English translation? I know the MSX2 version does.
I've played pretty much every version of Ys 1&2 and the PSP/DS versions are my least favorite. The PC Engine version is much better
Even Ys II Special?
>The PC Engine version is much better
Than Chronicles? Eh, gameplay's not as snappy.
Also didn't like that levels carry over/they let you overlevel in Darm Tower. Ys I was balanced around its level cap.
>Even Ys II Special?
No, that's one I haven't played, but I've played pc88, msx2, nes, pc engine, nds and I think there was master system or mega drive port too but I'm not 100% sure anymore.
Nice. I think for me it's PC88, FC, PC Engine, PS 2 (which isn't much different from all the other Eternal/Complete/Chronicles releases) and Chronicles+ on Steam. Also have the NDS version but haven't played that yet.
I just turned on my DS to see why I didn't like that version. It's because the camera is zoomed in too far that I feel almost claustrophobic and they added new areas that serve absolutely no purpose they just make it much more confusing to navigate and the shitty map at the bottom doesn't help either.
>Still no port, remaster, remake or anything.
You're posting the enhanced remake, tho
Ys Origin brings families together!
Too bad falcom and ys is lgbt now
how horny is ys compared to trails
bump
While Ys was practically the original waifu RPG, it really isn't that horny. You don't oggle girls, Adol is adventuresexual and always nowaygays girls after the adventure is finished, you don't get bath scenes. The most you can get are meme achievements for pushing NPC followers into corners to "measure" them and Laxia dropping her towel in 8.
>Those achievements for groping the heroine in various of the earlier games
>Modern Adol gets slapped for shit that isn't his fault and just takes it
Weird.
I bought a bunch of these after beating I&II, which one should I play next.
Release order
So Napishtim - Oath - Origin - Seven - Celceta
Origin, neat if you still remember a few names from 1+2
Origin is a prequel to I&II, and has some callbacks to those games. I'd suggest that one.
Chronologically, Celceta is next, followed by Oath in Felghana.
Chronologically OiF is next since it's Ys III. Alternatively you could play Origin since it ties into I and II. Or you could play Napishtim since it's the oldest in development order of the ones you've got. Your call.
These games are like 6 hours long each. Just fricking deal with it if you don't like them.
I think they're pretty fun to play.
1 kinda sucks (except for music, but that's a given), 2 is the proper game.
idk about you guys but Ingrid was a cutie.
I completely forgot this character. I have a clearer memory of the blacksmith girl from VIII than most of the cast of IX.
Did you forget about the e-girl assassin?
Yes.
Wanderers was garbage and I'm tired of pretending it's not.
