What a fricking game, THIS is how you make a remake.
I finished it a while ago: hard mode with a file of 9 hours in game and i liked it, a lot, easily a 9/10. It was like 2D zelda but on steroids and with power rock. Really good stuff.
Lets talk about CHADol's game.

Origin is better imo
I'd give them both credit. Oath and Origins were very close to each other, and they were the last Ys games with soul before they dropped this series in a bowl of weeaboo sauce like every other aging Japanese property desperate for relevance.
I tried playing Origin and fell the frick asleep. How do people enjoy this genre? Mashing the same fricking button against braindead, harmless mooks over and over. When I was playing I was just thinking how I'd rather be playing Megaman because it does what this does but better in every way.
Well, usually you get to a boss fight or two before dropping an Ys game. Also, Megaman's not even close to the same thing, though an X game with underlying berserker mechanics would be pretty damn interesting.
Origins is my first Ys, I started it a couple of days ago and it's pretty neat. It started out kind of boring but now that I can dash it feels more fluid and fun. Enemies are starting to fight back too.
Eh, the tower got stale fast. And Felghana felt more like an actual challenge.
Both are fantastic in their own right. I'd argue Napishtim with modern improvement is also up there.
>nobody ever mentions ark of napishtim
7/10 game, which means it's god-tier for Ys, which is a 3/10 series. Trails is bottom-tier JRPGslop, though. Definitely 2/10.

Yes. This is true of all "I had to pretend to be bad" characters. I will not be taking questions
>Will Ys X be good?
I'll at least like it I'm sure. Party Ys scratches a different but equally valuable itch for me. The combat doesn't have the same elegance but damn near nobody else is making action RPGs that sound this good and feel like an honest to God adventure
>Where do I go next?
Xanadu Next is a must
>Believe in my Heart
Fantastic taste, it's incredibly good but very underrated.
>I'll at least like it I'm sure. Party Ys scratches a different but equally valuable itch for me. The combat doesn't have the same elegance but damn near nobody else is making action RPGs that sound this good and feel like an honest to God adventure
true, true. I'm looking forward to it, I wish Falcom wouldn't drag out the localization/translation into English though. Ys is one of the few games I get excited about except the last one, it looked awful tbhfam. It was a bit of a slog doing the prison part at first, but I did enjoy it by the end when it actually ramps up.
>nobody else is making action RPGs that sound this good and feel like an honest to God adventure
They don't really though? People always say this but it's not really true. Every game is extremely linear and it's always the same "fire level, ice level, cave level, castle level" shit for the most part. Just because people say the word "adventure" 5000 times per game doesn't really make them these amazing adventures. They're pretty generic games really.
ys? more like why s this game so shit, am i right gamers?
Ys entered a spiral since Seven. The party games try too hard to be a Tales and they felt fricking generic because of that.
I prefer Ys I, II, Felghana or Origin.
Well Tales sure as hell isn't trying to be Tales anymore so somebody's gotta
It's a shame how the series got turned into absolute garbage but terminally ill weebs and japs with incredibly shit taste ate that shit up so falcom had zero incentive to course correct.
>The party games try too hard to be a Tales and they felt fricking generic because of that.
I had this same thought playing 8. No idea how that game gets so praised.

That fricking rocket-powered dragon thing that can flip platforms spike-side up. On my nightmare boss rush run I think I spent 5 minutes at one point just hugging the edge because all the platforms were flipped and the butthole wasn't flipping them back. Also not a fan of the final boss just because how dependent on RNG his first two phases are.
Was the psp port harder? I remember playing both it and pc on hard mode clearly recall having a harder time with the bosses in the psp version despite having the double boost, did they up the general difficulty?
is 6 Celceta? something about that game, i forget, really irritated me. I think it may have been the story at one point. The gameplay though is very good. I really liked 7 too, that one is legitimately difficult imo. Not as hard as Oath but it's close.
6 is Ark, Celceta is 4
why do ystards play 1 ys game and immediately start spouting all the cringe ysgay memes
I'll play it. Maybe that will help my depression that's starting to make me insane. Should I play with a controller or is the keyboard fine?

I can't take anyone seriously who uses this word.
That said, I think TOIF is good. It has some dogshit sections like the lava level. Some of the bosses are just throwaways like the demon boss at the end of the mines who has like a grand total of 3 projectile patterns you dodge for 2 minutes, or that boring worm/crystal boss thing later on in the game.
The best part of TOIF is the music.

How is The Ark of Napishtim?
I often read almost universal praise for Origin and Oath but Ark has more mixed opinions. What do (You) think about it?
its okay but it just feels like a beta for felghana which does everything better and the weathervane thing at the end is the only real memorable part of it
the platforming was absolute dogshit
I see.
I am very new to the series so I want to know where to go after I finish Origin. That sounds like if I ever play it I should do so before playing Oath or I will just be very disappointed.
Ys VI is great. It is the gameplay precursor for OiF but it's still great in its own right because it has a different gameplay focus/feel.
i miss this genre of Ys
what was it called? post bump combat but pre team based
i love that style of prerendered graphics too
Welcome fellow Ys chad. I recommend going back and playing the bump combat games. Grab a bottle of booze and go hard. They're only a couple of hours long if you know where to go, so it's not a huge investment. The Chronicles remakes have a great power metal/power rock soundtrack, much like the rest of the series.
>I recommend going back and playing the bump combat games
Actually, i'm coming from those games. Ragedropped the game at the bat/demon boss, got Oath in a sale and never looked back. Dawn of Ys could very well be another excellent game, but i really really don't want touch bump combat after Naphistism engine games.
I do want to know what happened in Ys 1 and 2 so i'm watching the ova one of these days.
>Ysdm4r
Literally filted
btw Ys I & II are the best games in the series
>bat boss
Filtered by being underleveled or not getting better equipment. The OVA is great but I wouldn't use it a replacement.
Thoughts on Adol's upcoming game?
looks like party ys 2.0 but they just took away all the playable characters except for 2
it doesn't look like it actually solves any of my actual fundamental issues with how party ys. will probably pirate it but i honestly think it looks very mediocre. it's also incredibly ugly.
YS's portrait of ruin moment.
