Listening to the ost as I write this...
Come back to your roots anon, all this modern slop is simply too over stimulating, this isn't really enjoyable isn't it.
Talk about Yume Nikki and anything related, I'd like to talk about this genre of games specifically and the influence its had in the gaming scene. I always loved games that had such a mysterious aspect to it, it makes me want to dig deeper and find out what the hell is going on, but I can't really grasp anything around it because the creator hasn't revealed themselves ever, and there isn't much to make of the game. But its still so addictive.
maybe im going crazy, I don't know, but I just know I fell in love with this thing since day 1.
Can you frick off with your undertale bootlegs?
Dont you literally have a whole subboard for this animepedo garbage?
....this was created way before undertale. lurk more zoomer.
before you is true art.
stop replying to obvious bait you dumbs
now post poniko
holy shit.
Undertale is a garbage cheap clone of Earthbound, Moon RPG and Yume Nikki. Cope and seethe.
poor man's bait
rich man's informed opinion
That game is older than you are, show some respect.
This is one of the few games about depression that didn’t feel like pretentious garbage. I couldn’t stand Omori, Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass, To the Moon, etc.
mmm... well, we are pretentious by nature, its how humans innovate, at least in my perspective.
it is true those games are pretty bad, I'd call them "generic" as a more accurate term, but its still art in my eyes, just not something bigger that truly inspires such as yume nikki.
You need to be slapped. Like a woman.
have a nice day onimai troony.
It's funny to me that open worlds and sandboxes are jacked off to so furiously in the AAA world now because I've played few games that instill a desire to wander for the sake of it as effortlessly as Yume Nikki does. Finding all the effects genuinely doesn't matter, just seeing and hearing all the surreal shit and stumbling upon low chance events does the trick.
I wonder if the mr.undertale talking to kikiyama is even real or just an elaborate shitpost.
knowing Toby, the chance is never zero.
Post your favorite track.
You posted it.
Kind of felt like a goodbye song,
It's not Kikiyama's last song but it certainly feels like it
Rooftop is the best but I also like the save screen theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxotoqo71xE
Dense Woods b for me. Perfectly captures the feel of riding a bike through a dark, rainy forest. Never knowing what could be lurking within, while also casting a sense of isolation and loneliness. Like no one's going to care to find you if you vanished into the woods and never returned.
There is a multiplayer version of Yume Nikki called 'y2kki', made by fans. It obviously is far from better than the original but still is an interesting idea, regardless.
I really miss Madotsuki
I have played the game for about ten or so hours now over several years but I refuse to see a guide to get all the effects. Really sucks as I want to experience the end myself even though I know what happens.
I haven't checked out the scene for a couple years now, I've pretty fond memories of playing stuff like 2kki, LCD, .flow back in the day as a teen on a shit school laptop. Anything else good crop up since around 2015?
They found older versions
I've been enjoying playing 2kki recently. i found this world called rainy apartments. while super small, was really nice to look around. it felt depressing and cozy at the same time
post your favorite remixes lads. I will give you guys a couple of mine
all of the 24EFFECTS is really good
I like this one too
Yea the whole of 24 effects is great. That song you posted is from this mix not sure if you heard of it but it is also great
yea i've listened to it all, i just posted one of my favorites from it
24Effects is real nice, though the comments on that one is also real funny. A buncha (most likely) 13 year Olds crying over a good game remix because it's their first exposure to post-rock
As cringe as that is, it is just kids going through the motions of life and early teenhood. I am happy that younger generations are looking at yume nikki as I think it is something special that no other game replicates or comes close to.
Oh for sure, I agree. I think I find it amusing more because I WAS that kid. Overly earnest and too online.
It is kind of fascinating that as influential as Yume was, few other games has captured its particular Flavour of Vibe-Based Exploration Tourism.
The only one that springs to mind, outside of the fan games, is bernband, which is well worth a look.
Yea same here! I was that kid in middle school who started to get into self-loathing phase and would listen to bands like the smiths and joy division and thought I knew it all lol. I see my younger cousins and sisters are now into the same music and they feel the same way as I once did so it is cute in a way.
>bernband
Seems strange but up my alley I will give it look at. Thanks
You already posted mine (the mega mix) but I like this one too
oh and Ib
yiik did it better-
Do people actually like this game, or is it just shitposting?
shitposting dont believe anyones lies anon
I am playing YIIK right now and let me tell you that I like the art style but there are characters who talk and talk and talk, you know what I mean? they talk so much without getting to the point like in the beginning of the game, that bird Marelene? I think that is his name, He asks you questions and those questions seems to never end and you go on and go on answering those questions one after another while thinking to yourself when you will be able to finally start the real game, to start playing with the character and having fun and making good memories, but the questions keep coming and coming and coming until suddenly the questions end and you can finally play with the mc, but then you talk with an npc because you like to talk with every npc just like when you were a kid and to explore all the stage to have a full experience, to immerse yourself into the world of the game and feel its life, but the npc who you talked to, start talking and talking and talking like he has no more motivation in life that talking to you, like he hates his shitty job and he wants relieve some stress by talking with someone, anyone, and there you are, the only man in town who approaches him just to say hi, because you like to being nice to npcs, to treat them respectfully, because it's just like when your grandma told you about the golden rule "treat others the way you want to be treated" and you want to be a nice human even to npcs just like she taught you. So this man is happy to see you and starts talking about his magazine and that the internet is ruining his business and wants you to donate to him, he wants you to become his patreon so he doesn't end up in the streets, he wants you to feel bad so you donate to him.
This is what largely put me off from the game. The characters are so above and beyond obnoxiously pretentious that I just want to see them all round up and dropped into a meat grinder. I have no idea how anyone can enjoy this horrible slop dialogue.

Can you believe it? It seems to me he didn't have a good grandma to teach him how to be a nice human being just like my grandma taught me. After all the pity talking I tried to donate to him but I I bet you can't guess what happened next I didn't have any money! So I promised to give him some money later and then left to my house. That has been my Yiik experience until now. I'll play some tomorrow and it seems I have to talk with the mc parents but let's see what else this game has to offer me.
It hits just the right spot on my it's so bad it's good scale.
I actually unironically liked it, but it is certainly flawed. There is soul hidden underneath all the crap though, and I bet if they played their cards right with I.V it could really be something
Yume Nikki is that game that I have on several platforms, even my phone but just can't bring myself to actually play it for more than an hour, I like the music and the trippy backgrounds but I just quite can't. Pic unrelated.
Been a while since I properly played this game. Maybe it's high time for a revisit. Played the "Remake/pseudo-sequel" a few years ago and found it to be disappointing, so probably won't bother with that one.
Speaking of, was 2kki or .flow ever finished?
2kki is still being updated often
Really? After all this time? Jesus, does the dev team have any intention to finish this game at all? I'll still play it, I'm just amazed that it's gone on this long.
No clue, the game is frickin massive now. Shame it’s a roulette when it comes to maps you’ll get. You can be enjoying some nice worlds, then BOOM you’re stuck in a path of the worst map creator aediorugap’s worlds that only connect to each other. Frick that guy.
>path of the worst map creator aediorugap’s worlds that only connect to each other. Frick that guy.
Never heard of him. Take it he's got a rep in the fandom?
I don’t know anything about the fandom, I don’t interact with any of them and play by myself, I just hate the guy. His maps are mostly low quality
I like to listen to the music while sleeping.
Could a game like Yume Nikki be made today and have it gain popularity? Just fricking about walking around weird places and finding secrets with little to no assistance?
Yume Nikki is more of an underground flavor that is from a different era of the internet and has a bigger eastern presence. Really hard for anyone to make a game as a homage to yumi nikki without getting some part of the pie wrong. It is either too strange, focused on gameplay, or horror while I think yume nikki is purely the dreams of the dev and they are to be interpreted very loosely and it doesn't hold your hand to tell you what to do next.
The best Mario 64 romhack is basically Yume Nikki made a plafformer
Yeah I love b3313 too
I tried this mod because anons kept saying that, but for the most part (with some exceptions) it's just standard M64 platforming? Found it kinda disappointing
>yeah walk through ugly repeating backgrounds for hours sometimes you even find backgrounds that are coherent
nah
I'm sorry, but you had to be there. (not saying you are young but) if you weren't around for the stuff going on here around 2009, especially on /x/ (when that board was good) you prooobably won't get much out of playing YN today. A lot of us here are super nostalgic for this game because it came around when we were discovering what is out there, its a game that really expands your mind to appreciate outsider art and games.
you should play Strange Telephone and Dreaming Sarah

He's right tho.
going to bed bros, you all have some good dreams too. Hopefully this thread will be up tomorrow
Goodnight, anon.
Tsuki sad...
cheer up
>tranee nikki
Rent free, homosexual.
The first time i actually found about yume nikki was the 3d version on itch.io/gamejolt + the isolation dlc, loved it, it amplified the original vibe
I don't know what the frick is this game, but everytime I try to find the ost for Yume (a game of my childhood, a very obscure one) this fricking garbage pops up instead. Frick you
it's over
>I always loved games that had such a mysterious aspect
Play Northern Journey, a game made by one guy.
It's actually really good
Looks good, thanks!
