so that girl is nikki, and basically she's awesome
how come
she can walk around and pick up objects. and also? she can gameing.
Nice. Whats the appeal?
the appeal is walking around and gameing. but don't just listen to me, go play the game. walk around in yume nikki's world...
Not every game made in rpg maker is an rpg.
Yume Nikki is not an rpg, it's not belonging here. Go to /jp/ with it.
WAIT so how come Disco Elysium thread is here for so long???
Good question, I don't fricking know.
Still, a meme zoomer-level "muh dark and edgy" dream walking simulator is not an rpg.
hey buddy. just thought you'd like to know that this game is older than you, and not "zoomer-level". thanks
Your father was balls deep in your mother pumping her with the cumshot that created you when Kikiyama posted this game back in 2003.
Zoomer scum.
are you
? you know zoomers didn't invent atmosphere or horror, not everything that goes beyond fisher price aesthetics has to be liminal space
meant to link to
you can tell this person is a zoomer themselves since they think zoomers invented trashy creepypasta aesthetics
could technically post it on /vr/ now because of the godawful rule change
>what im in for?
Dunno but everyone I know who played this game is a homo
>Dunno but everyone I know who played this game is a homo
Well, you chose that social circle to hang out in. So...
>any other crazy RPG maker games
"Mongol" and "The Grean Conclovance of Mithrilnidhogg" by DarkCrusader, ".flow" by lolRust (dotFlow to not confuse for the game of the same name, basically YN but more horror oriented), "Seraphic blue" of course and "Splatterhouse 2k3".
troonycore shovelware. Not RPG.
Not a rpg
gays who uses rpg maker to make shitty horror or artsy games should rope, learn unity you lazy frick
Yeah since this isn't an autistic min maxing spreadsheet game or a game that involves pre-teens performing 100 hit combos on local wildlife it doesn't belong here OP
yume nikki is not an rpg, but dear esther is
>any other crazy RPG maker games
OFF, LISA
What's the developer's secret to picking palettes?
They came to him in a dream
Ever notice how the less a thread has to do with RPGs, the more morons are willing to post in it?
explains all the thousand-post Black Souls threads here and on Ganker
Its a shitty VN made in RPG maker, which is why the Black Souls, Sequel, and CYOA generals all get bumped together, along with a slew of other threads on absolutely abhorrent games. Every time one of those morons stumbles into the catalog it goes to complete shit, I have never seen the Black Souls thread get bumped if it wasn't accompanied by 15 other shitty threads. Imagine how much better this place would be if the no general rule was enforced and these morons had no reason to be here.
>it's not a game that i like so it's not an rpg and doesn't deserve to be here
AGREED
Black Souls is not a VN, it has actual combat. Https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_sxr_G1O0k
>inb4 it's braindead easy
The game is more difficult than your average JRPG. You can't just fireball your way to win and you have to think about your gear choices, which is an alien concept to most JRPGs.
>inb4 you don't roleplay so it's not an RPG
You don't roleplay in the vast majority of JRPGs either.
Don't bother, it's just our local special needs poster. Besides the awful takes and not knowing what a VN is, you can tell by his grade school level of critical vocabulary, mostly limited to the word shit. If you want him to frick off just ask him to post his favourite rpgs.
Every time you bump your shit generals you go nuts.
nta, i want to play the black souls games but i legit dont care for hyper masochist rpgmaker gameplay like in your vid. i prefer normal medium difficulty style jrpg's. are they still playable and enjoyable for that? i dont mind a challenge i just dont want to trial and error out bs like in your vid.
To be fair, the vid's taken from a masochistic challenge run, it's just what was the most readily available on youtube. The regular game is deterministic in that the right gear+strategy will win you fights 100% of the time (even when underleveled, since lvl 1 runs are possible). The process of finding the right strategy may still involve trial & error, especially in the last section of the game which introduces puzzle/gimmick battles, but searching for the right strategy is where the fun in difficult vidya lies, not in getting decimated by RNG (which is my gripe with games like SMT 3).
cool that sounds really up my alley then. yeah smt3 was pretty rough with some of those insta kill or enemy keeps giving themselves free turns scenarios. like i said i dont mind a reasonable challenge, i just have played a lot of insane rpgmaker stuff at random back in the day and bounced off hard after a while. i have a bit less trust given to a truly indie game to handle the difficulty balance in a responsible way. but it sounds like here it should be all good. thanks anon.
As long as you approach it with the mindset that:
>the game is very nonlinear and sometimes you may wander into areas you're not meant to be in yet
>your gear choices, strategy and knowledge of the combat system matter a lot more than your level, sometimes you can't grind your way to victory (pic rel)
You'll do fine. As I said before, the endgame of BS2 introduces a lot of gimmick/puzzle fights and you may bang your head on the wall a few times, but the combat system is deterministic so as long as you find the correct strategy you should be able to beat the boss every time.
I'm more worried about you bouncing off the game for other reasons:
>the game's plot doesn't really kick in until the secret ending of BS1
>BS1 is a much weaker game than BS2
>the game expects you to use the NG+ option extensively to get all the endings
>BS2 has one ending with requirements that are very difficult to get without a guide
We're talking old point 'n click-style arbitrary requirements. If it were at least a La Milana-type thing (i.e. every single hint is somewhere in the game) I wouldn't mind, but some of this shit feels completely arbitrary.
I don't think there exists a game without flaws, but if you can look past these particular ones, then I think BS2 is a delightful little game that manages to be very unique and well-executed both narratively and gameplay-wise. BS1 in comparison is rather rough around the edges, but I think its ending redeems it as something special, much like a few other classic RPGMaker games. Witch's House, for instance, is a bog-standard horror RPGMaker game until you reach its ending, which managed to cement it as an RPGMaker classic.
thanks anon i will keep all that in mind. i am not above looking up a walkthrough for really missable stuff once i give it an honest normal playthru. adding witch's house to my list as well sounds intriguing. you have been very informative i really appreciate all the info!
It's been an entire week since you made a thread for this game that isn't an rpg and you haven't even played it yet???????
when i'm browsing the catalog and i see a yucky thread about a stinky game that i don't like, or a shit op that's obviously bait, or an obvious shitpost dump that doesn't even look fun to post in, i simply hold shift and click on it
this thread is too low population to really do anything about cliques forming. /vrpg/ is like one giant melting pot of morons with /vg/ tier posting.
Not a rpg and not even original, just a fricking LSD for psx rip off
You are a girl who doesn't want to go outside home. All you do everyday is playing videogames, writing in your diary and sleep. During this sleep, you dream and walk around through your dream world collecting Eggs that gives you power within your dream world. There are also those chance events that are pretty neat to see.
There's no dialogue in the game and everything has this abstract nature that dreams can give us (and sometimes scary). This gives space for the community to theorize about her life, aspects, traumas and so on. Many compare Yume Nikki with that Dream Simulator videogame from PS1.
If you enjoy this sort of game, be my guest and play. Tell your impressions about it later.
