Zelda and Star Wars

These two franchises are very similar in that they are both creatively bankrupt.

Just as star wars must always have jedi, light sabers, tie fighters, the force, etc, Zelda must always have the triforce, sages, master sword, ganon, and so on.

Nintendo seems willing to experiment with the gameplay of Zelda (think skyward sword motion controls and BotW open world) but the story beats are almost never deviated from.

Link JUST got the master sword and defeated Ganon in BotW and I am pretty sure they are going to do the exact same thing again in the sequel. As a zelda fanboy it is depressing at how laughably derivative these games are.

Majora's Mask was the only game that tonally did something completely different. It was amazing and yet everyone involved seems completely ashamed of it.

There are several Zelda games that didn't use the elements you mentioned but you said only Majora's Mask didn't have them. That's complete bullshit. The Triforce's design appears in most games but is often irrelevant to the plot. The sages only appear in a few games. The Master Sword doesn't appear in the Four Sword games (including Minish Cap). Ganon doesn't appear in Minish Cap.
You've also just cherry-picked a few elements to say "Wow these things are in most of the games so all the games are the same!" But you're ignoring all the times Zelda introduced unique elements to a game. Wind Waker flooded Hyrule and had Link journey on a boat. Twilight Princess had the Twilight Realm. Skyward Sword had people living in the sky and introduced completely new lore about Zelda being a reincarnation of a goddess, the Master Sword being created by the goddess, Demise, etc. Nearly all the games introduce new races (Kokiri, Goron, Zora, Minish, Rito, Korok, Twili and more). Breath of the Wild introduced the Guardians and finally let us meet the Sheikah after teasing them for 20 years.

I mean you mentioned possibly the two least played, least popular games in the franchise.

The setting and circumstances might be different, but LttP, OoT, WW, TP, SS, and BotW all involve doing stuff so that you can get the master sword, then powering up the master sword, and then using Zelda's help to defeat ganon.

Just looking for more different stuff.

Yeah but those first two literally transcended and evolved the entire medium, no one’s saying that they reinvent the wheel every game and honestly haven’t truly innovated with the franchise since SS(which I’m assuming you don’t like) but it’s disingenuous to compare Zelda, a franchise with one owner trying to maintain a brand with some integrity, to Star Wars, a series with two and a half good movies being pumped by a media conglomerate desperate to make an investment back

OK so play other Zelda games beside those.

Majoras Mask does't have any of these. A number of the other games also doesn't use a few of these

Why do people who praise Majora's Mask for being unique always forget Link's Awakening exists?

Because their first Zelda was on the N64 and they don't consider 2D Zelda to be "real" Zelda games (even though Majora's Mask sold worse than most 2D Zelda games).

I have beaten LA at least 3 times. But c'mon, it's like a 15 hour little handheld game. It's fun and I like it but it can't be compared to the flagship games, right?

Not in my game. I defeated him without it or the beasts.

Actually, you bring up a point of something I haven't thought about. Everyone played BotW differently. I wonder how that will be addressed in the sequel. Will it actually read your save data, or will it dust streamline everything into one canon ending? .

        Anonymous

Would be interesting if it were addressed but I don't expect Nintendo to have the foresight to implement that in their game. Having the freedom and choice to play BotW how you want was neat. One other neat thing the game introduced in the DLC (I forget if it was free or not) was the feature that tracked and mapped your adventure route as you played. It was interesting comparing it with other people to see how differently people played the game.

Zelda was supposed to be more like Mario
The whole extended lore was added by the writers despite of Miyamoto, he ruined the story of Four Swords Adventures turning it into a mediocre game even tho it had much of the staff from ALTTP working on it.

All zelda fans want is a faithful, good looking oot remake. That's all we want, we meaning the people who played the series back in its heyday and want a similar product.
With Nintendo only offering shitty underpowered toys for nearly 2 decades now, I don't see it happening. Zelda is fated to just be the name with some gimmicks forever, it'll never be at the forefront of gaming like it really could be. The original 3D formula is so well defined and tight, it's a shame it'll never be that again.

      > we meaning the people who played the series back in its heyday
I don't think you know what the word "heyday" means. It hasn't applied to OoT since Twilight Princess's release.

Twilight Princess was originally slated to be a proper spiritual sequel to oot, and in some ways it is, but the tragedy was how much content and polish was dropped to move the team to other projects pertaining to the wii's launch. Still the most pissed about any game outside halo 2. We saw a lot of good talent wasted in the motion control era.

Actually what Zelda fans want is Ocarina of Time but Dark Souls.

That's not what I want at all. What I actually want is new villains and new settings, like what Majora's Mask did. Twilight Princess already tried straight remaking OOT, and it was boring.

    >Zelda must always have the triforce, sages, master sword, ganon, and so on.
BotW effectively didn't. Those things are only there in the most token sense.
And then there's games like Majora's Mask.

Funny, when Ocarina of Time came out and Episode I shortly after, I associated them together, because they both had a fantastical lore and a world with many different races (Gorons, Gungans) and a whimsical sense of magic.
