This I agree with when I sat down to replay Symphony of the Night in the knowledge stat gains were random, and began save scumming level ups to gain certain stats (for example, always +INT+MP, or always +STR+CON
The pretense was to make certain gear better/worse as I went through different playthroughs, when it hit me. It was basically playing out like a 2D sidescroll Dark Souls. Aside from the tedium of save scumming, it was fun. With a proper resource driven level system it would easily work.
But beyond that, I don't see what could translate. I see plenty of 2D souls-likes that try stamina dodge/parry systems and they're often the worse for it.
I liked the guard drop carrying in BotW and TotK if nothing else.

It's the opposite, every developer studio can make some shitty juggle based hack and slash "gameplay", even Genshin Impact does, but it takes actual skills to get hit reactions, animations and framedata right for a proper Souls-like game. Even big western publisher with near unlimited budget like EA, CDPR and Ubisoft tried and achieved mediocre and pale imitations

Aqua is the only reason I watch that show and why Isekai Quartet did so well.
I still am a firm believer that Soulslike fans are among the worst fandom that exists. They act like souls games revolutionized gaming when its just old school game design. Anyone over 35 has played games with similar design especially in 90s to 2000s PC gaming sphere.

I think the whole "make everything dark souls combat" like with skyrim doesnt necessarily come from wanting those games to be dark souls
Skyrim in particular has shit melee combat, it feels floaty and unresponsive to the point oblivions feels better and dark souls just happens to be the "oh this works so just do this" for most of those people
I enjoy souls games, I enjoy the stupid exploration and hidden walls garbage, but I also think the souls games made by companies other than fromsoft are usually better
